Anyone who's ever studied in a foreign language in a foreign land is often posed the few familiar questions: Is it difficult, are you passing/failing-terribly. (My mom has asked me these same questions ever year for the past 4 years) Mostly my answer is a very breezy "sure no sweat, it's great" with a big bright smile. i mean, honestly, who wants to hear you whine right?

Nevermind that you sit in class with a perpetual half-puzzled look, that most of your knowledge is absorbed back at home with the help of wikipedia and online notes from random american universities and the suckiest part: sometimes the eventual grade is just not worth the effort put in.. all because you understood a question wrongly, or missed an important point somewhere in your blurry page of notes in half-broken german.

Just read an entry from a fellow scholar in france who echoed the same sentiment: it's hard sometimes, going from where we were back home to this and settling for mediocrity.

So when I was asked to counsel some dude EDB offered a german-scholarship to, I tried to stop short in offering a recommendation. Don't get me wrong, i LOVE germany but that doesn't stop me from saying germany is not for everyone. my experience here has been beyond all my wildest expectations in both a positive and negative way. And even knowing the answers to all those questions in your head will not even BEGIN to prepare you for this.... sigh, i just want to tell him: dude, just pack your stuff, come here with an open mind and be prepared to work your ass off..

But in the meantime, i shall get back to answering his little questionaire....

in the wake of sunday's spontaneous/rash "let's-join-the-boyf-on-his-work-out" decision, which included sit ups, crazy crunches and pushups -- i draw the line at weights-training, now my general lower region (ass, thighs, stomach, calves?!) is aching like never before.
I have indeed, morphed into a revolting blob of lard.. he-elp.

today we were supposed to introduce ourselves for intercultural communication. someone asked what my hobbies were, first words out of my mouth were: softball. then i realized, last time i held a bat was in november..

i really miss softball... the sound of the ball hitting the glove, the feel of the bat connecting with the ball, the smoothness and familiarity of the motion as i pick up a ball, pivot on the ball of my right foot and play first. the wind in my hair, sun beating down on my back, perspiration dripping down my nose. even sliding into second and getting my knee all messed up. i miss it all. then somehow i come up with all sorts of excuses not to go... work, bad weather, work, exhaustion. how lame.

i am the proud owner of a brand new, high-tech, chip&antenna-infused singaporean biometric passport (so what, they are gonna track us via GPS?!)
AND i'm a legal resident of the federal republic of germany.

check, check!!

now for that one more important confirmation : )

weekend is here, spring is (almost) here, life is gooooood...
