The Sunday Funnies

On Wednesday, El Jefe had the Priests over for a ping pong tournament

I was impressed that each of these 16-18 year old boys showed up with their food assignments...especially Petal's (son's) chocolate chip cookies! Yummy!

Equally impressive was how well behaved they all were. I mean sure, there was a bunch of trash talking...but that was mostly the leaders.

At the end of the evening, as I was straightening a few things--I noticed that one of the boys had rearranged my "Merry Christmas" blocks on my end table to say,

"She is My Rat."

PS Yes, my Christmas is STILL up.

And yes, I know it's January.

And yes, I find it completely irritating.

Year End Recap...According to Facebook

So much has happened over the past year...and I figured since I hadn't blogged in almost a year--the easiest way to catch up would be through my Facebook posts--cause I'm lazy like that. But, I promise I am going to attempt to keep at least one of my New Year's Resolutions..which is to start blogging again...ahem...hopefully. Don't I sound committed?

And if you don't feel like reading through the entire year of shenanigans...I'll sum it up real quick like...we had a baby...and he has changed our lives forever! Plus some other stuff...So fun!

January 2011
Happy New Year! Now it's time to dig out of that party pit...but I'll have to wait til my Cinderella mice wake up!
Back to a schedule...still deciding if I'm ready for one or not...
Thanks for all the sweet birthday wishes! It's been a great day! Lunch at Zupas with my favorite peeps (mom, sis, sis-in-law, and 3 cute nephews) and then to Tai-Pan! Good times...and the nephews were such good lil shoppers!
Okay...so my New Year's Resolutions usually start the day after my birthday...but there are 3 pieces of lemon meringue pie left from yesterday...so maybe the 13th? Besides...Christmas decor is still up--it doesn't even feel like a New Year...yet...
Mmmm Pei-Wei!
Every day of this fabulous 3 day weekend...I've automatically woken up at 630 AM...and then couldn't go back to sleep...what the?
After WEEKS of trying to fix my broken Ipod...trying every trick on the internets for resetting my lame Ipod Nano...I finally tried the reset idea for the video Ipod...which I didn't realize I had...until now...and of course, it worked! Now its fixed! Yay...But, Duh! (PS...who can even enjoy a movie on that tiny screen?)
After a very unfancy dinner of spaghetti tonight...Jordyn: "Mom you should get some recipes from Natalie...she's a really fancy cook...and they never eat the same thing all the time."
Me: "Hmmm...Maybe YOU should get some fancy recipes from her..." Seriously, I wonder if the darling girl knows how close to having cereal we were tonight?
Sinus headache and insomnia...they go hand in hand...grrrrr.
My twins got braces today...there goes my new kitchen table...
Why is it when Hubs gets up at 6 AM to take his turn driving the teenager to early morning seminary...the teenager wakes me up and asks where the brush is...they loudly chat in the kitchen like it's high noon...and they slam the door--twice...so that by the time they leave...I'm wide awake???
So fun watching the Alta swimmers today at region!
What the? Somebody hacked our I-tunes account and spent my kids $30 in giftcard monies! Big meanies!
So our Itunes acct got hacked this week by someone in Asia...who wanted our credit card info. Luckily- my hubs credit card info was stolen last month by someone in Kansas--so he had to get a new card reissued and we hadn't gotten around to updating our Itunes acct. Crazytown! PS-Change all of your passwords to something hard.
Been smiling all day! (Sweet Release=Sweet Relief!)

February

Groundhog declares an early spring...I'll believe it when I see it! (It was 6 degrees when I took Jordyn to early morning seminary today! BRRRR!)
Heading down to the OC this morn to see Ma and Pa...good times
Does anyone have a popcorn popper I could borrow?
Jordyn is swimming the 100 fly and the 500 free at state today...Go lil mermaid! Go!
Just finished washing Austin play in his last Jr Jazz game...his first season of playing b-ball. Picture it..a tied game...5 seconds on the clock...Auz steals the ball...dribbles down court...he shoots and scores the buzzer beater! Wahoo!!!
So fun having cute girlies over for Personal Pongress tonight! Those girls can ping...unfortunately, I was a bit rusty...and brought shame to my family.
When facing a mid-life crisis...some people buy a hot car...others may get a cute little purse-dog, or some may even go in for some nips, tucks and lifts...We decided to have a baby...and found out today ITS A BOY! Couldn't be more excited! Due July 31st!

March

I love it when my birthday falls on a weekend... because there's all the sleeping in, breakfast in bed, lazing around all day, etc...This morn is my hubs bday. He left at 6 AM to run 16 miles. Happy 40th you crazy man!
‎40 black and silver balloons stuck in the lawn for hubs birthday celebration + 1 windy month of March = a popped mess. (On the bright side--with all the wind-blown destruction--my hubs thinks he's 18 again).
Love me a lazy Sunday morning...just wish I could sleep in like everyone else in my fam...
I teach eight 4th graders in a small classroom for Language Arts...it can get very cramped and crowded when the desks get moved around. This morn one of my students announced quite loudly, "Mrs. H, I'm feeling constipated." I asked her if it was necessary to share that info with the entire class...she blushed and said, "I meant to say that I was feeling claustrophobic!"
Relaxing in Moab while my hubs runs the Moab 1/2 Marathon...run El Jefe run!
Just finished helping Savvy make 30 lip gloss samples for her lip gloss demo tomorrow--next time I'm talking her into demoing something easy...like how to tie a shoe...
Apparently I got a little carried away with the lunch packing this morning and walked around all day at school (unknowingly) with a huge glob of raspberry jam in the back of my hair...finally...at 12:30...one of my cute students asked me what it was. Now I'm wondering how many of my co-workers noticed and just pitied the crazy, jelly-haired lady?
Good times with my sis and our daughters at the YW meeting at the conference center!
I'm all out of tinfoil and duct tape--but at least Auz has an awesome homemade baseball hat...grrr...haha
Last time I had to buy maternity clothes--my choices involved a tent in sizes small, medium, or large...Now--so many darling things and lots of choices...but still...low rise maternity pants? Really?

April

Found the funniest thing at an awesome fabric store in Orem...a 108 inch zipper...when I asked the gal on charge what it was for..she had no clue. Any ideas?
Today at lunch a cute 4th grade girl asked me if I would open her milk...it was actually a pint of whipping cream...her mom must've been tired this morning when she packed her lunch! LOL
Anyone have a good recipe for granola? Or even a good place/brand to buy? Serious cravings over here!
In the second hour of spring break, my true love gave to me...2 kids with strep throat and a partridge in a pear tree...
Some children get to go to Hawaii or Florida for spring break...mine get to help with spring cleaning! I love my Cinderella mice!
Dropped my teenager and 12 year olds off at Dimple Dell this morn to swim their laps...found out when I picked them up that Channel 4 news had them take part in an underwater Easter Egg hunt...apparently all of the little kids who were supposed to show up...didn't. AND here I am with broken TV's! Curses!
Poor Auz is sick, sick, sick! Took him into the doc today. At one point our doc shined a light in his eyes and had him look up, left, right and down. Then she says, "Okay, now open wide." He opened his eyes sooo wide they bugged out." She said, "Wow! That was wide...but I meant your mouth." Still smiling at that one!
My hubs just got back from a 20 mile run this morn...and is now sitting out in the snow icing his legs...insanity!

May

Happy Mother's Day to all my favorite mamas!
Last night as I was making the batter for apple muffins...Auz said totally serious..."You're making muffins? Mom! You're like a pioneer!" Guess somebody buys Costco muffins a little too often?
Mmm...Cheesecake Factory..
Watching hubs run in the Ogden Marathon! Thank goodness the weather is cooperating! Run El Jefe run!
In true Hansen style...after waiting and watching and waiting and watching...we completely missed El Jefe's one shining moment of running by...due to a minor distraction...i.e..talking to the kids
‎4 out of 5 Hansen's like the name Jimmer for our new little fella...I need a cute boy name and fast! What's your fave boy name? Please! Help!
Mmmm...perfect Memorial Day...grilled chicken and mashed potatoes...now if only the weather would warm up! Brrrr!

June

Happy Sweet Sixteen to my darling daughter, Jordyn. Constant entertainment around our house with that cutie. Love you! PS You're making an old woman out of me...stop it!
Two hours of dr's appts this morning...and me without a book to read! Lame!
It's always nice to have a fast pass when faced with a HUGE line at the Social Security office...
Good times...Teenager got her license and a job as a lifeguard today...all before 11 am. Yay!
Dropped my cutie off at Trek this morn at 530 AM! All the kids looked so darling in their pioneer clothes...is it lame that I wish she could text me and tell me everything is okay?
Seemed like such a beautiful day for a swim meet...until about 20 minutes before it started...grrrr! (rain...thunder...lightning!)
Yay! The trekkies are home!
Love a good Reunion Day!
Happy Father's Day! We love you El Jefe!
My cute grandpa passed away today. I'm sure going to miss him. So thankful for the memories I think one of my favorites is how he kept track of all his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids on facebook.
My hands are numb...baby must be on a nerve? Probably my last one...haha
Curse you, Insomnia!
Wishing the nesting instinct would overtake the tired, no-energy instinct that this old preggo lady has....
Hmmmm....what are the odds that I make a quick trip to the grocery store...looking like a scary hag...and I don't run into anybody I know? I'm thinking slim to none?
What made me think that I could have dinner on the table by 330...(so hubs could eat an early dinner before his YM's activity)...when I rarely have it ready to go by 730 in the eve? haha

July

Nothing says "Let Freedom Ring" like painting a baby's bedroom...my big kids are feeling parade deprived...but we'll be hitting the REAL game and fireworks later tonight...*”˜˜”*°•.¸☆ ★ ☆¸.•°*”˜˜”*°•.¸☆

You know your getting HUGE when it takes 2 of your kids to pull you out of a lawn chair at a swim meet...
My kids have been late for their daily 7 AM swim practice for the past month. So I told them to set their alarms, or else! Poor Sav woke the house up at 540 this morn instead of 640--due to an alarm clock malfunction...silly girl
The curse of the basement bomb continues today...much to my 3 little slaves dismay...wake up lil darlings..wake up
During one of the few quiet moments of the day in primary...I sat down to the piano...and my big PG belly hit the piano keys! Of course, then our primary chorister and I got the giggles...such a good example of reverence!
Whoa! T-minus 2 weeks and counting! (Of course, I still have 2 weeks of stuff to do...but at least the crib is set up...)
A 1.5? Really? With 12 days to go...that's pretty much insulting!
First day all week that I can sleep in...and I've been awake since 6. For the love!
Shopping & packing for the 50 miler is way more work for the mama than the son...although I guess hiking the 50 miler will be way more work for him...come to think of it the shopping & packing is looking a lot better!
If I never walk into another Cabellas, REI, Sports Authority, Recreation Outlet or Big 5...it will be too soon. Bonus: My scouter and girls campers are packed and ready to go on Monday (and Tuesday)!
Just sent my cute scouter off on the 50 miler...hyperventilating a little bit! Told him he wasn't allowed to go near rivers..and if he wanted to skip rocks he'd have to stand 10 feet back from the shore...also gave him a few more crazy mother bear rules that had him and his dad laughing...overprotective much?
Good times at the Spanish Fork 24th parade this morn...perfect weather, great parade spot, fun family...and so many donuts we were giving them away!
It's Jimmer Eve...
Sheesh! Its never a good sign when you almost pass out when they put in the IV...and the real pain hasn't even started! Yikes!
Mmmmm....ice chips...
Epidural...serenity now...
Getting close.... jimmer warming up and stretching in the locker room - getting ready to make his entrance
We've been Jimmered! 8lbs. 9oz. Nicole's account has been hacked to update her status, but by a reliable source:) I know inquiring minds want to know.
He has finally arrived! Beckham Thomas Hansen...Born at 6:53 PM on July 27th. 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and 21 inches long. We feel so blessed to have him here! He did not come easy and caused a few very anxious moments tonight! Thanks so much to all our family and friends who have kept Nicole and "Jimmer" in their thoughts and prayers--as well as a huge thanks to Nic's Doctor and the wonderful staff at St. Marks. We feel so blessed right now, mom and baby doing well.

My goodness...after 10 hours of labor, a bunch of shenanigans...and an emergency c-section--cute little Beckham Thomas Hansen has made quite the dramatic entrance...but things couldn't be better now. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers...
So wonderful to have all my kiddos home from camp and safe! So fun to watch the bonding moments between them and their new baby bro!
Just visited with Dr. Lamb (my OB who delivered Beckham)...he said with all of the wild and crazy shenanigans from Wednesday he forgot to tell us that Beckham was his 5000th delivery...WOW! (He actually delivered #4999 next door while they rushed me to the OR for the c-section...then delivered 2 more that evening after Beckham!)
Coming home today! Yay! (Oops...hope I didn't just jinx it?)

August

Oh my goodness! El Jefe and the kids are ALL giving baby Beckham his first sponge bath...I'm not sure if there's enough baby to go around...he will be one clean bambino!
Auz is such an overachiever...when he gets stung by a wasp...he doesn't just get stung once--but 5 times! That was one mean wasp! Poor kid!
Grrrr! My dishwasher is broken! So my kids are pretending we live in the 70's and washing the dishes the old-fashioned way...we'll see how long they enjoy the 70's before going on strike...
We had Beckham's one month birthday party today...complete with party hats, balloons and homemade pizza...this darling boy has captured all our hearts! PS when the kids asked if we celebrated THEIR one month birthday...the silence got a bit awkward...
Poor lil fussbudget...cried and cried and cried some more...my big kids were so worried about Beck that they all tried to help...finally he went to sleep...followed by my arm...and then my hand...zzzzzz
Yay! Savannah made her jr high volleyball team! Go Savvy!

September

I heart Rock Canyon Pharmacy...and their magical colic gripe water concoction...totally avoided the baby meltdown tonight!
Becks new favorite passy...probably because it's so true! LOL
Beckham's 1st Labor Day picnic was detoured by...Jordyn's 1st flat tire...which then became Beckham's 1st flat tire change...haha
Oh baby! Auz, my 12 year old, is officially the baby whisperer. I had to leave a very fussy Beck home with him while I carpooled his sis earlier tonight. When I got home--Beckham was asleep--and he has stayed asleep all evening.
Guess its time to pick up Beckham a Utah onesie...had to shred his BYU one last night...YIKES!
Loving this beautiful fall eve...just opened some windows to let some of this cool air in...crossing my fingers that Beck's 3 am feeding doesn't wake up the neighbors! (Savannah claims that having Beckham around is like having an alarm clock that always goes off).
My magical sister showed up at 830 this morn to help me with my sweet (but fussy) baby...so I could get some things done around the house before his blessing on Sunday. Beck fell asleep around 930 AM...and is still asleep at 4 pm (he has woke up 3 different times just to eat..but then right back to zzzzzzzz). I'd like to bottle my sister and sell her baby whispering tricks to others! haha
Blessed sweet Baby Beck today. He was so good! When I commented on what a little angel he had been at church...cute Savannah said, "Well, I fasted that Beckham would be good today...and it worked!" Love that girl!
Beckham loves a good morning walk...loved it so much he fell asleep right after I stopped to take his pic...lovin' this babe!
October
Cute Baby Beckham does not want to sleep today! Got Beck to sleep and laid him in his bed...woke up 10 minutes later...strike one. Got him to sleep again and put him in his swing...woke up 15 minutes later...strike two. Got him to sleep yet again...and put him in his vibrating bouncer seat...it's been 30 minutes...what am I doing wasting my precious time on FB?
Note to self: Never put a baby who hasn't pooped for 3 days in his swing. HOLY CRAP!
Happy Birthday to Savannah and Austin...13 years ago today our lives were blessed with double the pleasure, double the fun, and double the good times! Love those kids!
Elvis (our inside cat) went missing last night! Found him this morn in our window well! Silly cat--He finally escapes the confines of his house and his adventure consisted of falling in the window well of his own backyard.
It's a landmark occasion! Baby Beck slept 8 hours last night...feeling sooooo energetic this morn! Hallelujah!
Baby's on a "no sleeping" strike...and I'm pretty sure he wore all of us out today with his shenanigans!
Loving Fall break...just wish Beckham understood the fine art of sleeping in...hehe
Just got back from a quick trip to Idaho...Beckham slept for 8 hours last night and then slept the entire 3 1/2 hour drive home! Angel baby? Or is he an Idahoan at heart?
This morn as we visited grandma and grandpas Idaho ward a lady asked austin how old (12 week old) Beckham is...he said, "Umm 6 weeks?" She then commented on how big he was...too funny.
Best kids award goes to mine today! Had a headache all day..which turned into a migraine. After I picked up the kids from school, I asked them if they could watch Beck while I took a quick nap. Fell asleep for 2 hours! When I woke up--the house had been tidied and baby was happy! Love em'!
Beck's 3 month birthday is today...and in true Beckham fashion...he partied like a rockstar all night long...every two hours to be exact!
There is nothing like drinking a frosty cold diet coke with a little ice on top...fresh out of the outside fridge...yikes! must mean winter is on its way...

November

Last week, I had a dream that I forgot my baby brother's birthday (Nov 3)--and he was offended! All week long, I reminded myself that it was his birthday on Thursday. Three times on Thursday I even reminded myself to call him or text him...needless to say my dream from last week came true! I forgot to call my brother on his birthday. I'm just hoping my dream about being rich and famous comes true next...PS Happy Belated Birthday Bro!
Snow!
My cute neighbors had their awesome 97 lb pumpkin stolen off their porch...luckily they are all hi-techy and captured the punk on video...help catch the meanie...does he look familiar?
I need to start going to bed when the baby does...just never tired at 730 pm...but I'm always tired at 5 am when he's ready to play...
Busy, busy day full of shenanigans-Started it off with a dead battery and ended it by losing my cell phone in a pile of 60 shoes at the Alta Swim Team party. Sheesh!
‎10 hours last night!!!! That's how long Baby Beck slept...now I just need to move his bedtime from 5:30 to 7 or 8...
I think almost every girl on Alta's swim team just took a turn holding Baby Beck...he's quite the ladies man!
El Jefe tried to give Beck a bottle of formula while I was gone for a couple of hours this morn...Beckham pulled a face like he was being fed mud...and then he cried.
Fun girls night...painful movie...can't believe my first evening away from Beck--and I choose to watch lame, cheesy vampires. AND I really can't believe I've let my 16 year old see it twice! Can you say YIKES?
Attempted to make 25 of the most darling cake pops last night...baked and crumbled my cake, mixed in my frosting, formed the little balls, chilled em for a half hour, dipped them in chocolate, placed them on pretzels and decorated with candy corns to look like a turkey. After assembling my 5th one--I decided they looked like a kindergartner had made them and gave up...what's a holiday without a couple of shenanigans...Happy Thanksgiving! LOL
Turkey dinner with my family--then an all night shopping spree with my sis and daughter...doesn't get any better than that!
Took one look at the lines in Walmart last night at 11 pm...and we wimped out, came home and went to bed. Got up this morn at 430..started our shopping at 5...no crowds...and got everything on our list. Finished up around 8 AM...Good luck and good times!
Sav just asked if we were going to be home in time for Jordyn's psychiatrist appt...she meant physical therapy appt LOL.

December

Spent 3 hours tearing the house apart whilst I looked for my keys...found them just in time to pick up my kids carpool...only to discover I had a dead battery...Oh--and the same child who put my keys in a special 3 hour looking place was the same lil darling who left the interior light on all night...why I oughtta!
Confucious say: When raking leaves with your children...do not be tricked into being the leaf bag holder. It may require less effort than the leaf picker upper...but you will end up with leaves in places you never thought were possible..
Just the other day I commented on what a healthy baby Beck has been...no ear infections, colds, etc...curse you Murphy's Law...
Solve this equation: 7th Grade Science Experiments x 2 (twins) + fussy babes - (dad + jordyn...baby helpers) = ?
In celebration of the first day of Christmas break, I sang to my kids, "No more school! No more books! No more teacher's dirty looks!" Savvy looked at me in shock, "Mom! You're a teacher! Why would you say that?" Ummm...cause I'm funny like that? haha
Watching "Nestor the Christmas Donkey" with my twins...it's cute..but I can't believe they like this over "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"...now there's a true Christmas classic...
Making chicken enchiladas for my families Christmas Eve party...Ho Ho Ho!
Sometimes...when you are the baby brother of teenagers...they put you in a "Guitar Cofffin"...and then take your picture...
Heading home after a fun trip up to Idaho...good times with family... PS Beck has slept the last hour and a half of this road trip home-with an hour to go. Hope I didn't just jinx it!
Visiting my cute 95 year old Grandma...love her!
Beck just slept the whole 2.5 hour trip home from Idaho...talk about a Christmas miracle!
Prepping for our annual New Year's Eve family party...can't wait to see everyone...and El Jefe is prepping for the best balloon drop eva...good times.
Carmelitos? Check! Mini-cheesecakes? Check! Cafe Rio Pork in the crock? Check! Kitchen looks like a New Year's Eve bomb went off in it...triple check!

Growing Older Makes You Bolder

So, I turned the big 3-9 last week. People keep telling me that from here on out I'll forever be 39. (But, seriously, if I were going to lie about my age...I wouldn't be telling people I was 39. More like 32?)

For this birthday milestone...you know...the year before I get cataracts, have hip-replacement surgery, & turn into a snowbird and buy a house in Sun City...I ended up celebrating it the entire weekend. It really helped get the house spic-and-span. As "But it's my birthday weekend," was heard almost hourly.

El Jefe was so excited to give me my presents, that we celebrated my birthday a day early.
He gave me a Kindle!

This is truly a gift so grand it deserves it's own post..but suffice it to say...I usually read 1 book every week or two--last week I read 3!!! Unfortunately, the grocery budget is going to have to be dramatically cut because of my new habit.

In the spirit of their mother's gift for procrastination, my kids were waiting until my actual birthday (which was Monday) to get me a gift.

Since we ended up celebrating on Sunday...Jordyn creatively gave me $5...for drink money. It was duly appreciated.

Savvy also hadn't had a chance to get me something...and not to be outdone by her big sister...gave me $5.01...for treat money...when in doubt give cash out, I always say.

Auz really wanted to give me a Ped-Egg...and since there was an unopened one in my dresser...it made the perfect gift.

On my actual birthday, I celebrated lunch with my sis, sis-in-law, and mom at Zupas and Tai-pan. That night, I went to Smashburger with the kids and hubs and then came home to eat delicious lemon-meringue pie.

All in all, it was a pretty great birthday weekend.

Wanna see the best gift I have EVER received?

I got it last year from my 93 year old grandmother.

It's this card...copyright 1985.

I love it so much...it's hanging on a wall in my craft room.

(Inside Granny wrote.."Dear Nicole, I didn't get to town to get cards. This really is not the right kind. Have a happy day. Love Grams T."

P.S. Didya notice the name of the artist who designed the card...she signed her name on the cake? Too funny.

Auz's Point of View

This week, my cute 12 year old, Auz, wrote a persuasion paper for his Language Arts class on:
Why School Uniforms Should Be Outlawed

Here are some of his hilarious excerpts...

Wearing School Uniforms is Unnatural...

"Forcing a kid to wear a school uniform is like telling a chicken to wear fur."

School Uniforms are Expensive...

"When my parents spend all of that money on uniforms, they don't have enough left over to buy me an I-pod Touch."

"If we didn't spend all that money on school uniforms, maybe we'd have more money to donate to charity."

Kids Can't Express Themselves in School Uniforms

"Forcing kids to wear school uniforms makes them feel like clones. Nobody likes a clone."

"Kids don't feel comfortable in their uniforms so they sit around and be lazy at recess...this is part of the cause for the United States' high obesity rate."

{This kid never ceases to amaze me...or make me laugh hysterically.}

Resolutions of Cleaning

Over the winter break, I got spoiled in having a clean house every day...due to my Cinderella mice (and the whip that I cracked). We had a deep cleaning fest almost every day of the break.

I'm sure my little cleaning slaves appreciated the fact that while their friends were out sledding, shopping, going to movies, and having waffles and ice cream for breakfast...that their mom was making job lists on the computer.

Aren't I such a mean fun mom?

My only excuse for my obsessive compulsive (holiday) ways is that I don't have time to be obsessive compulsive during the school year. (I'm sure my kids are super-grateful for that fact.)

Unfortunately, with all busy-ness of life, our house seems to be in an eternal pit of chaos. Seriously, many times I will look around my house and think, "Did I sleep through a frat party last night?"

The funny thing about said frat party is it doesn't take usually take too long to clean it up. It's just that none of us little piggies take the time to do it...so the frat party doubles every day...until the campus threatens to close us down. (I.E. I freak out on Friday and make everyone help clean or we're all grounded.)

Naturally, I am making a goal to have a "house of order" as one of my resolutions for the year.

And how is that working out? You may wonder?

Ummmm...this morn I woke up to another silently held frat party! So rude!

BUT, the good news is...I have gotten into this bad habit of not starting any of my New Year's Resolutions until after my birthday on the 10th.

Yes, it's totally related to that Lemon. Meringue. Pie. that I'm going to eat All. Day. Long. And it may be partially related to my expertise in procrastinating.

(As you can imagine, I am avoiding making a resolution about THAT problem for eternity).

Resolutions from a 12 Year Old Boy

Over the Christmas break, one of our family home evenings was dedicated to New Year's Resolutions.

My favorite goal came from Auz, in the education category. He said, "Get at least a 'B' in Language Arts and Math. (He currently has straight A's...and it's the end of the quarter. He really knows how to shoot for the stars.)

Coming in a close second, was Auz's goal in "Physical" where he wrote, "Only 2 hours of screen (TV) time." (I guess he figures the physical part comes when his fingers change the stations on the remote?)

Honorable mention was Auz's spiritual goal of "read the Book of Mormon in one year without skipping 2 Nephi"...which our family has been known to do...oh Isaiah!

So, what are your New Year's Resolutions?

(And more importantly, are we the only family who has ever skipped 2nd Nephi to expedite scripture reading?)

Happy New Year

You know its been a long time since you last blogged...when it takes you 3 times to type the word shenanignas...shenaniganas...
shenanigans...
correctly...so you can go to your long lost blog.

I figured since I seemed to be a better facebooker last year...than a blogger...I'd share my year in facebook status'...I know..what a cop-out--but I'm feeling guilty about my lack of journaling from 2010...

January 2010

*We partied up some good times last night--twice! First we celebrated New York's New Year at 10 for family that had to travel home early. Then we rang in that wild New Year again at midnight. Oh and Happy New Year to one and all!Good times.

*Hanging out with my hubby in AF at my daughters swim meet..Go Alta.

*Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I had a great day.

*Had good times today with my sissy with shopping at Taipan and lunch at Zupas...all of my faves.

*I hate it when I read a book with only ONE character that I even like--and that character dies in the end. Lame!

*Just finished reading Hunger Games and Catching Fire--man--what took me so long to get around to reading them? They were fabulous!

*There's nothing like fresh snow down the shirt...someone's gonna get it...

*Hanging out at Region Swim today--Go Jordyn! And Go Alta!!

February 2010

*Anyone have a good FHE idea on encouraging kids to be a peacemaker? I was considering beating the scoundrels--but then decided it wouldn't be a very peaceful thing to do...

*Last night's FHE was on being a peacemaker. I asked the question, "Do you know who likes the spirit of contention in our home?" Savannah answered, "Dad?" Yes, it was a loooong night.

*After listening to rave reviews from my teenager (and her friends)--I finally finished reading "The Last Song" last night. Even though I'm anti-Sparks--because he always has to much sadness in his books--it was pretty good. Can't wait for the movie to come out.

*Just watched my cute daughter swim the 100 Fly at state! Good job J!

*Austin: "Mom! I want Elvis (the cat) to have a baby." Me: "Ummm.. Elvis is a boy." Austin: "Well I want him to have a baby kitten that we could name Spot." Me: "Why don't you tell dad what you want." (I refuse to have THAT talk today).

*I HEART long weekends!

*My poor Austin is sooo sick--and on a vacation day even..harsh.

*Curses! My bored, sick (since Monday), 11 yr old decided it would be fun to make an imprint of our brand new remote control--with his silly putty--and boy is it imprinted. {Anyone know how to get silly putty off of remote control buttons?}

*Mmmm...I love comfort food...poppyseed chicken is the best.

*Curses...I have a headache. It's time like this that could drive a girl to drink (diet coke).

*RS Training over...hmm...the headache seems to be over too..correlation?

*Jordyn just dropped 10 seconds off of her 400 IM--and is 3 tenths of a second away from qualifying for state!

*Watching Jordyn swim at the last chance (to qualify for state) meet. Go J!

*Yay! Jordyn qualified for state (came in 10 seconds under the state time) in the 400 IM--yippee!

March 2010

*Watching Jordyn swim at the last chance (to qualify for state) meet. Go J!

*Had a diet coke tonight for the first time in a while...and I feel so...AWAKE!

*I love driving around with the sunroof open! Spring is here! (till it snows next week.)

*So fun watching Jordyn swim today at the State JO's...she dropped a second on her 100 Fly--and came in 11th overall in Utah. Yay!

*How could sitting at a swim meet for the past 2 days wear me out? It's not like I was doing the swimming. And, curse those chlorine fumes!

*Are crepes hard to make? Isn't it just like making pancakes? Anyone with a FOOLproof recipe? I'm need to make bunches of them for my daughters soirée on Friday.

*After making about 40 crepes, I think I'm almost a pro...mmm strawberries and cream....

April

*I'm so sick of winter--so for the past few days I've worn flip flops and capris--trying to channel a little spring with my tricky reverse psychology--unfortunately, all I've channeled is having to turn my heat up in the house cause I'm so cold.

May

*Brrrrrrrrr!

June

*So, when someone tells you that they love how "real" you are...is it a compliment? Cause I'm telling you right now the "real" me--is currently thinking about driving to McDonalds for a 99 cent diet coke and is yelling at her Cinderella mice to get to work.

*It's finally summer!? Or did I just jinx it?

*Heading down south today for the summer games. Go swimmers go!

*Round one of the Summer Games: Chicken fight between Austin and Savannah and two random kids at our cheesy retro motel pool. Auz and Vanni win! Go team!

*Such good times at the Summer Games! The kids did great--and even earned a few gold, silver and bronze medals! Yay!

*El Jefe (my hubs) was so impressed with his 12 place age group finish in the Summer Games 10K race. Then he found out there were only 13 men competing in his age group. Awkward!

*In my mom's ward today--we had a high councilman named Brother Church speaking and stake President Chapel was presiding on the stand--tell me that's not funny!

*Teaching a 15 year old how to drive is the scariest thing I've ever done...her questions are frightening but hilarious--"Which one is the gas pedal?"

*Our fence was vandalized last night around 10:30 by 3 teenagers...anyone see anything suspicious?

*Happy Father's Day!

*Ran three miles with my teenage daughter this morning...I was feeling pretty good about myself cause I kept up with her the whole time...until she said--let's sprint this last block. I didn't even come close...sheesh.

*Just finished reading Breaking Dawn (after quitting more times than I can count)...not the biggest fan of this one...but at least my teenager will stop nagging me to read it.

*Taking the teenager to get her Learner's Permit...hope the lines aren't long...and that she passes the 1st time.

*Jordyn failed her learner's permit test...due to trick questions such as...T/F You can use a hospital certificate as identification for proof of birth...

July

*Just got home from the longest, windiest swim meet ever...

*Chillin' (literally) on the parade route with my girlies.

*Brrrr!

*Go runners go! Jordyn (yelling to the runners): Hey your tshirts match! Katie: Aw cute! You must be married! Me: They are just wearing the free race tshirts--awkward!

*Good times with my fam yesterday! The parade, food, fun, & pyrotechnics were awesome! Rock on Snake Charmers!

*Saw "Eclipse" with my hubs last night (Knight & Day was sold out...stinking Cinemark). Hubs saw "Twilight" but missed "New Moon"--so there were bound to be many questions. Favorite comment during the movie was when he leaned over and asked, "Does Bella's dad know that Edward is a werewolf?"

*Saw a cute little fox looking quite suspicious on the draper canal trail this morning... I think it had just come out of the henhouse...Jordyn named her Vixen...

*Went to the lake with my kids & sis yesterday. Savannah informed me that my legs were "as white as a vampire".

*Good times running the Draper Days 5k this morning with my sis, daughter, and hubs!

*Last night's FHE was on being a peacemaker. Austin shared two ideas on how our family could do this. His first suggestion was: "We need to stop interacting so much with each other--and then everyone will get along." His second was: "I think we get along better when we are all watching TV."

*Just sent my cute daughter and her darling friends off to camp...it's going to be a quiet week around here.

*Going to Galoooon today...

*Am I a wimp or what? I told my kids and hubs that it was too early in the day for me to be attempting "Wicked"..and honestly, just watching them on it is making me a bit dizzy...maybe later tonight I'll get brave and go with them?

*Lagoon should seriously consider handing out free samples of deodorant...yikes!

*Parades, Picnics and Pyros--Oh My! I love the 24th celebrations!

*I love it when I send my Hubs to Costco...he comes home with stuff I usually don't buy...fruit & veggie trays, pre-cooked bacon, and the best chipotle marinade sauce I've ever had!

*Just finished bottling honey with some fun ladies...and at the end the cannery gave us each a bottle of honey for helping out...sweeeeet!

*Just discovered that I cannot be trusted with a loaf of fresh, warm french bread...so much for low-carbs today...

*I love it when RS visits turn into a long lunch at Kneaders...mmmm.

*Heading to a swim meet in Kearns at high noon....it's gonna be a hot one...

*
If you think that I appreciate having a stinkin' Justin Bieber song stuck in my head...you're wrong.

*
This morning, as I jogged into the wind, I couldn't wait for the moment I turned around and had the wind at my back. Of course, just as I turned around to head home...the wind changed...and I was running into it again. Seems like Confucius would have something to say about that...or am I thinking of Murphy?

August

*So excited to go to Saratoga Springs and see my cute nephew, Drew, get blessed today...

*
Grrr! My cell phone is broken!

*
Interesting things you find while weeding...a bird skull? Poor little birdie!

*
Good times tonight with cute ladies!

*
Just finished babysitting my darling two-year-old and two-month-old nephews' (Franky and Drew). This was not a one woman job...it took me and both of my girls to keep them entertained and happy. How does my cute sis-in-law do it every day? P.S. Now, we are all lazing around like we just ran a marathon...hehe

*Just got home from cheering on my hubs running in a 1/2 marathon race down in Provo! Way to go El Jefe!

*It's never good when you're in Kohls for so long--you forget where you parked...

*So fun partying it up with my whole Sumsion clan at the Owlz game--talk about a hootenanny!

*Jordyn {finally} got her Learner's Permit today...she was so excited to chauffeur us around. The first thing Austin did when he got in the van was put on his seatbelt...and then his bike helmet. He very seriously wore both the entire time. I ♥ that kid!

*Teaching the teenager to drive+Teenager forgetting (numerous times) the difference between the brake pedal and gas pedal = serious heart palpitations for mama {and the need for a stiff shot of something stronger than diet coke}

*
I love a good catch-up day...

*Auz spent 20 minutes packing his suitcase for his 3 day visit to grandma's--and then left the stinkin' thing behind...needless to say the 11 year old is thrilled to be wearing the same clothes all week--I just hope he put on clean underwear this morn!

*I've got teacher training this week and the kids start the next...I'm totally having a Phineas and Ferb moment--there's 104 days of smumer vacation and school comes along just to end it...

*
Good times running the OC 5K this morning with my sis and sis-in-laws. I ♥ OC Days!

*I like change so long as it doesn't affect me...so I guess that means I don't really like change?

*Got the garage door fixed today {by the tallest man in the history of garage door repairmen}...I can think of about 20 things I'd have rather spent the money on...grrrr..

*Thank Goodness It's Friday!

*I love a cool Fall morning...

*I love my new 4th graders this year. Favorite moment of the day: As I corrected a spelling test...the word was "succession" the cute student wrote "sucksession".

September

*Heading to Swiss Days today with my mom, sis, and sis-in-law...the hubs thinks we're just going so that me and my sis-in-law can run the 10K in the morn...and if you think I'm going to tell him that we're really going for the shopping...then you don't know me very well.

*
I love the sound of {happily?} weeding children on Labor Day!

*It's barely 8 AM and it's already been one of those mornings where I'm wishing I had a stiff drink...or a diet coke.

*Getting ready to drop off my 6th grader at her first middle school dance. It's killing me. Hubs and the teenager think I'm making a bigger deal out of this then needed...but I've got some inner turmoil with this one.

*Skipping steps on projects because I'm in a hurry...always leads to adding extra unnecessary steps...which then ends up adding more time than it would've taken in the first place...what the?

*
Homemade plum jelly is plumb good! (Thanks to a couple of my BFF's!!)

*Did you know if you don't let salt dough cool before you knead it...you get a sunburn on your hands that lasts through the next day?

*
Heading up to Logan to watch my hubs run the "Top of Utah Marathon"...Go Jeff go!

*
I have decided that watching a marathon is hard work! But--not nearly as hard as running it! Wow! I have a new appreciation for 26.2 miles--And the crazies who run it! Good job El Jefe!

*
Good times watching the USU vs Fresno game with kids and hubs...Go Aggies! Go Aggies! Hey! Hey! Hey!

*Love my 4th grade language arts class! This morn I had them draw pictures of their vocab words. For the word "develop" one of the students drew a baby growing up to be an old man (cane, wrinkles, etc)..underneath the old man was "age 40".

*
I hate it when I eat a bowl of cereal (for lunch) and when I get to the bottom I see that the bowl is not clean...guess that's what happens when my Cinderella mice unload the dishwasher...

*
He shoots! He scores! Way to go Auz!

*
I feel like I've morphed into a taxi driver...and the cheapos I drive never tip...but always leave a mess behind.

*I was trying to explain to Jordyn why I didn't want to let her drive home on the freeway from Cottonwood. Ian summed it up best, "Driving with Jordyn is like watching a scary movie. You know everything will turn out all right in the end...but your stomach still gets all twisted up in knots in suspense."

*
Bring on the Diet Coke...and lace it with some Excedrin...

*
On our way home from soccer tonight, I asked Austin if he would mind jumping the fence at the apt's and running an envelope over to my friend...Austin's reply, "That depends. Is it electric?"

*
Wow! Just watched an awesome fireworks show while waiting in the parking lot at Cottonwood (for my swimmer). What's the occasion? Is it homecoming?

October

*Jordyn helped out in my class this morn...my 4th grade boys were so in LOVE with her. One of them kept holding his hand up to is ear like a telephone...and saying...call me! So funny! {And really, what's not to love?}

*Woke up this morning, to find Austin reading my teenager's AP History book. Impressed, I asked him what he was reading. He replied, "Bud"ism.

*
Happy Conference Sunday!

I'm trying to find a fun Halloween craft for my 4th graders to do, so (not thinking) I googled "flying witch craft". Didn't come across any cute ideas for crafts...but I did find a good flying spell...oopsie!

*I get by with a little help from my friends...totally!

*I love it when a plan comes together!

*I gotta feelin' that tonight's gonna be a good night!

*
Such good times at our craft night last night! We've got some serious worker bees! Thanks for all your help!

*
So last night, my cute Aunt hosted a birthday extravaganza for my 94 year old grandmother. At the end of the party, she allowed each family to go out and pick a punkin out of her garden. MY little piggies (unbeknownst to me)--hauled out their prize winning, humongous pumpkin and put it in my trunk. I feel like the Great Pumpkin thief right now! Returning it today (How embarrassing)!

*
To the funny Walmart employee who sold me on the Extra Mint Chocolate Chip gum last night..I'm sorry I doubted you. It really does taste like mint chocolate chip ice cream! Thank you for the calorie-free ice cream fix.

*
Happy 12th Birthday to my darling pumpkin thieves, Savannah and Austin!

*Good times taking a bunch of 12 year old boys bowling today...during a senior citizen bowling competition. Trying to teach the boys bowling etiquette was hilarious...I settled for...just don't yell "OWN IT" in their faces...or do the chicken dance in their lane. There's some feisty bowling seniors out

*
I love me a long weekend..especially when the weather is beautiful!

*
Apparently, Elvis (the cat) enjoys a nice, cold, half-eaten bowl of tortilla soup.

*
So one of my knuckleheads took the ghost off of our door so we'd get spooked again...they wanted more treats!

*
So fun watching the Alta kids swim to victory today! (But, if I'm going to continue to help out with timing...I'd better take a button-pushing class...

*
Just dropped off Jordyn and her cute friend KT at the Alta game. First round: Jordyn forgot her student ID so I drove them home and then back to the game. Second round: At some point during our drive, KT lost her ID somewhere in my van...its either love em' or beat em'...good thing I love em!

*Last night, Savannah said, "I hope I wake up in the morning and it has snowed and it's December." She was pretty excited that half of her wish came true.

*
Our garage and vehicles were broken into last night...purse, tools, golf clubs, air compressor, etc are missing...but the most insulting item they took? My makeup bag! Who steals a makeup bag full of crappy cheap makeup?

*
My hubs theory was proven correct last night...not even a thief would want to steal his piece o' crappy car..even if his keys were in it and it was unlocked! Golf clubs in the trunk? They likey.

*
Number 1 response today when people found out we gotted robbed last night was.."You leave your purse in your car?" And I really do it ALL the time--half the time I leave my keys too!! (Not anymore tho!)

November

*Harry Pottah!!! T-2 minutes!

*Enjoyed a fun and successful black friday shopping spree this (early) morning...and initiated my cute teenager! First time she's ever woke up at 330 in the morning! And she's still going strong!

*
Saw Megamind with the kids and cousins yesterday. Favorite part was when the credits were rolling and my nephew said, "Who's Brad Pitt?" Austin said, "He's a famous singer." (He confused Brangelina with Brad Paisley.)

*
Snow day for my littles! Yay!

December

*
I rock at last minute (meaning...due tomorrow) science experiments. Just ask my kids.

*
Oops...I picked up my Christmas cards on the 16th...addressed them all on the 18th...and just realized I haven't mailed them yet! Yikes!

*
Insomnia since 3 AM? Really? I've never had such a thing happen before! You think I'd be super productive with all this time on my hands! Nope.

*
I heard lots of entertaining things today while grabbing my last minute items at various stores...but I think my favorite comment was at Harmon's. A woman YELLS down the aisle to an employee, "Excuse me young man. But, could you tell me where your wipes are? Not the ones for babies...but the one's for adults." Oh my!

*
Merry Christmas to all...now wake up kids! This is the first time ever..that the parents are awake before the children. It's almost 8 kids! Wake up! Wake up!

*
Jordyn had a dream that I made it to Hollywood on American Idol...wonder what strange thing she ate before she went to bed last night?

*
On my way home from dropping Jordyn off to swim team this morn...I saw 5 deer running across the Kmart parking lot...they must really be having a good after-Christmas sale.

*
Cleaning house, making food, (possibly yelling at kids--plug your ears neighbors)...so we can get ready for our big family New Year's shindig! I gotta feelin' that tonight's gonna be a good night!

*Happy New Year! Now it's time to dig out of that party pit...but I'll have to wait til my Cinderella mice wake up!

Happy New Year!

(P.S. I think that was the longest post of my LIFE!! And if you've made it this far...you deserve a prize!)
