WIP Wednesday 8.31.22

I've been cruising right along.  Another item came off my list this week.  I quilted a memory quilt for a friend.  It went on and off the frame lickety split.

I made four Ohio Star blocks for my Random Ohio Stars quilt.  (This is a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter.). All of the stars are complete now.  I need to cut some neutrals to space the blocks and then the row assembly can begin.

The quilting on my blue crib waffle quilt is complete.  It needs binding.  Oh which binding will it be?  Does everyone have a little bin of left-over binding pieces on the shelf?

I made a little progress on my Mystery Stamp SAL.  I'm working on learning how to get all the cross stitch "X"s to go the same way.

The quilting on my friend's large block patchwork quilt is complete.  I was only on the frame for a day.

I loaded my kites crib quilt onto the longarm frame and have started the quilting on it.  I love the Tweety Bird flannel piece that I found in my stash to use as a backing.

Our baseball team cebrated the end of the season with a picnic.  Our son is the one in the green shirt on the left hugging his coach while still holding hands with his best friend.  He's definitely a ladies man.

And so the teenage years part of the love story is full swing.

I am really enjoying the rewards of my flowerbeds.  Here's a cute vase of Xenias.

Quilting Complete

The quilting on my friend's large square patchwork is now complete.  It's like it went on and off the frame lickety split.  I quilted it using the design board from Urban Elements called Dewdrops in the Garden.

Monday Making

 Today I'm working on the longarm quilting of my friend's quilt.  

Before I loaded it onto the longarm I had to do some extra prep. work.  First I had to add fabric to the back so that I could attach it to the frame.  I use an old sheet for this.  I'm using old faithful "Dora" the nice machine that I inherited from my mother-in-law.  I always think of her when I use it.  It's a really heavy-duty machine.  I keep it set up and ready to sew in the longarm room.

The backing fabic that my friend gave me is big enough for the back.  BUT it is not long enough for me to complete the design on the design board on the very last row.  This is the reason that I add fabric to the top and bottom of the backing.

Next I needed to make some Frankenbatting.  She gave me enough batting.  But it was in pieces.  I had to sew them together.  Dora and her zigzag stitch to the rescue.

Finally...  I am off and quilting.  I am quilting it with a design board I bought at Urban Elementz.  This design is called Dewdrops in the Garden.  I love it for large bocks and/or negative space.

And if you are asking me if I charge my customer extra for the extra work I have to put into her quilts, the answer it NO.  She is a dear friend.  She is not abusing our friendship.  I have done more than twenty quilts for her.  Here is a photo of her and I at her recent 90th birthday celebration.  (I'm the one on the left in the probably too-bright, yellow shirt.  I had a hairday that looked like I just came from a windstorm!)

Random Ohio Stars Sunday Progress

ch Sunday I work on a specific WIP until it is completed.  Random Ohio Stars is the quilt that I will be working on each Sunday until it is complete.  It is a pattern designed by Bonnie Hunter.  This plan has been working for me to get some WIPS off the list.  Here's three small grey blocks for the Random Ohio Stars.  Each block is forward progress.

This morning I finished the last of the star blocks.  Everything on the list is crossed off.  Woohoo!  Now I need to cut more 6.5" neutrals so that I can assemble the rows.

I been stitching along with Melissa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting & Stitching.  This is her Mystery Autumn Stamp SAL.  I made some progress stitching more outlines for stamps.  Here it is during my lunch while subbing in 3rd grade.  This, by far, was my favorite day of subbing this year.

Today when I stitch I'm going to try to make all my "X"s go in the same direction.  This has been a challenge for me in the past.  I'm also having trouble seeing exactly where to bring up the floss (in what hole).  Maybe I need to try a different type of cloth when I stitch a project next time.  It's all practice to me right now.

Scrap Happy Saturday RSC -- Orange

 A few weeks ago I finished putting this flimsy together by adding a row of orange and pink charm squares cut from scraps.  It's now on the longarm frame and closer to being finished.  I am quilting it using my design board from Urban Elementz called Dewdrops in the Garden.

I found a cute piece of Tweety Bird flannel to back this sweet crib quilt in my stash.  I'm pretty sure my friend's daughter was going to make pajama pants with it.  It's perfect for this little quilt.

I'm quilting it with a light rose thread.  Here's a closer look at Dewdrops in the Garden.

A Memory Quilt

 This is a little wall quilt that my friend made for her sister.   Sunday she gave it to me like this.

I quilted it with the clamshell design for her.   A few hours later it was all done!

It's a quilt for her sister.  Her sister's granddaughter sadly passed away.  The two t-shirts in the center were two of her granddaughter's favorite shirts.  The pinwheel fabrics were her clothes.

When I loaded the quilt I tried hard to calculate where the stitches would land.  I really didn't want to quilt over that sweet face.  I also didn't want to do any custom stippling around the photos.

I know she is going to be super happy with it.

Happy National Dog Day

 Here's Zoe modeling String of Pearls.  This quilt was a quilt along hosted by Christa Quilts.  You can read about her quilt along here.  We have not had a dog for several years.  I am Zoe's human aunt.  Zoe's human mom is my sister-in-law.  She is amazing!  I am so lucky that when I married my husband that she became part of the deal.  I just LOVE her!  She is also the best aunt to our son -- EVER!

WIP Wednesday 8.24.22

It's been a busy week with school starting on 8/17 for our son and 8/18 for me.  But I did get some sewing done too!  I'm happy to have a BRIGHT finish~~GO! ABC Quilt started during the pink month of RSC21, January 2021.  It was my August OMG (one main goal) to finish this quilt this month.  Ta dahhhh!

I think it turned out super cute.  You can read all about the GO! ABCs quilt here.  The pattern is free on the Accuquilt site.  There's a link in the blog post as well if you need it.

I made more Random Ohio Stars (a free Bonnie Hunter pattern).  I work just a little on this quilt each Sunday.

On the frame this week is the Waffle Block crib quilt.  This was also an RSC quilt that I worked on during different months.  I used random 2.5" squares and the color of the month the RSC was using for the 8.5" strips.  I'm hoping to finish this quilt soon.  My neighbor's grandson should be here any day now.

GO! ABCs Is Complete

 GO! ABCs is complete!  I think it turned out super cute.

This was one of my RSC (Rainbow Scrap Challenge) projects that I started in January of 2021.  Each month Angela at SoScrappy announces a color of the month.  We work on using up that color of scrap in our scrap bins.  I have made many quilts by playing along with the fun of the RSC.

The GO! ABCs pattern is free on the Accuquilt site and can be found here.  My quilt measures 57" x 80".  I used a little bit larger border than the pattern suggested.  I quilted it using the clamshell design.  Everything was from my stash.  I'm happy with the red pieced back and red scrappy binding.

It was my goal for August to finish this quilt with the OMG challenge at Elm Street Quilts.  I'll be linking up there at the end of the month.

Slow Sunday Stitching

I been stitching along with Melissa at Pinker n Punkin Quilting & Stitching.  This is her Mystery Autumn Stamp SAL.  I made a lot of progress (for me) this week.  Here's a photo of it sitting on the console of my truck at the bus stop.

Aren't these little apples super cute?  This pic was taken before I started stitching the basket.  I'll finish the details of this stamp this week.

Our son started school (9th grade this week).

I also went back to subbing part time.  My plan is to sub three times a week right now until our son settles in at his school.  Once bowling practice starts I'll be able to sub more full days.  Hopefully I will also be able to get back to a regular eating/exercise plan.  Remember, our son has not physically been in school since 3/12/2020.  He made up a lot of ground when it comes to reading and math.  I am very thankful that I was able to spend all this time with him.  Now he needs to go back to school to gain social skills.

RSC -- One Lonely Orange Block...

 I just realized that I was behind in making orange blocks for my HST Three, Six, Nine quilt.  I have only made one block!  Oh dear.  I'll need to work more on that this week if time permits.

In my flower world, the seeds that a friend gave to me that someone gave to her are blooming.  Her friend called them Mexican sunflowers.  This is also the lady that gives me one quilt a month to longarm for her. It's not the best photo.  I just drove my truck up into the field to take the photo.  You can see a big shadow of the truck.  Looks like there are some cute little xenias blooming there too.  :). The deer have been eating the tops off of the regular Mamouth sunflowers.

In other RSC news, I have a few more rows to quilt on this waffle block quilt.  These blocks go together quickly.  I used 2.5" blocks for the squares and 8.5" strips of the same color of the RSC color.  I had enough blocks to make two crib quilts.

I also finished the quilting on my GO! ABCs quilt.  I quilted it with clam shells.  I have selected and cut pieces of red, scrappy binding.  Hopefully this will be a finish by the end of the month because I have set it as my OMG (one main goal) to finish for August with the group at Elm Street Quilts.  The GO!
