The Passion of the Christ
Aight, a whole bunch of us went out and saw it yesterday. It is honestly the most emotional movie I have ever seen. I generally don't cry in movies, but this really hit me, as did it hit just about every other person in the theater. Was it violent? Absolutely, brutally so. But brutally honest. It was extremely graphic, but if Gibson had researched as extensively as he has claimed and this was the conclusion he arrived at, then it was definitely necessary. A movie like this needs to be as genuine as possible, not dumbed down or tamed, because this is what really happened. Was it anti-semetic? I would say no. Although the chief priests were portrayed as being very cruel and the crowd of Jews where vehemently calling for Jesus' crucifiction, there were also those Jews against it as well. Besides that, it was mostly the Romans who did the torturing and were being insanely malicious. I would definitely recommend that everyone go and see this movie, and go with an open heart and an open mind. I think a lot of people had ill-feelings about the movie because they didn't know the history behind it. The movie is, afterall, only the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. It doesn't show the events leading up to it, and why the pharisees hated Jesus' as much as they did. So, if you do see the movie and this it was anti-semetic or overly violent, do talk about it and not dismiss it. This is the most powerfully real story you'll ever see and hear. 9.9/10 (There was one small discrepency that I caught).
