Finally Finished

Hey, Friends!
I hope everyone is warm and safely recovering from Sandy’s  impact!

I finished stitching Mistletoe by Acorn House Designs from the 2012 JCS Christmas Ornament issue.  It was the one that drew me in first.  Of course you know I had to make it my own… instead of the called for fibers, used Nancy’s Victorian Motto threads.  The linen is a butter-ish color, so it was hard to get the white berries to show up.  Beads worked  better! Then I realized I didn’t want to stitch Merry Christmas over one, so it turned out bigger than the magazine model shows.

Tanya of The Scarlett House designed a graph for the attendees of Stitching at the Beach, and it is darling!  Stitched over one on 28ct Tea linen (that's why I left the tag on, ladies).  Haven’t decided exactly how to finish it, but love the way Michele decided to finish hers!

I picked up Gather, Give, Gobble from Stitch and Frame, LNS yesterday.  I love how it framed up - they always do an amazing job – and I’m really happy with my choices.

There are a couple of things in the Q-snaps, and too many to count that I’d love to do next!  I’ve done it again… joined a SAL.  I couldn’t resist the Country Cottage Needleworks monthly series, Santa’s VillageVonna has started a blog for the SAL, SSVT – Stitching Santa’s Village Together.  Hop over to take a look if you like.

DS and I went last week to see Cloud Atlas and I loved it!  Your opinions?

Thanks for stopping by to say Hello!

I'm grateful  for football season = stitching Sunday’s!

A finish, a start, and a SAL

Hey, Friends!
It has been a busy work week so much that I didn’t even venture out for Stitch Night this week not that I didn’t stop by the LNS to pick up the new Blackbird Designs Anniversaries of the Heart, Pumpkin Farm, and a couple of BBDs that were in the sale bin!
What is the finish?  It’s the December Cardinal ornament from Victorian Sampler Button Up Birdies series (I meant to pick up number two and forgot it).  I used HDF silks and some DMC rayon to get the sheen I wanted.  It called for red beads, but I wanted the snow to show up more, so I used beads there.
The SAL is with a Yahoo group called The Stitch Specialists.  Abi is the moderator/owner of the group, and she is offering a SAL that will teach a number of special stitches.  The first in the series, to get us going, is the trunk of the tree in cross stitch.  I’m using 28ct Irish linen in Tea and started with DMC Variations 4140.  Each ‘limb’ of the tree will focus on a different stitch.
And the new start?  It’s the continuation of BBD’s Anniversary of the Heart series, Valentine Rose.  It is a very tiny start - the green.  There would be more if I hadn't had to take most of it out - I missed the change in design along the border there.  I’m enjoying being a part of the BBD Yahoo group - a great gathering of very nice stitchers!

I did set up a new system for my fabric, some graphs, and threads.  They’re now in rolling plastic-drawer bins.  They're not the most lovely things, but they are practical for me.  I can drag the whole thing around, or pull out one drawer and take it along.
There are graphs in these.  They're by season, holiday, or theme...

These are fabrics, and this drawer has the 32ct and higher .

The top drawer here IS   reserved for BBD graphs (my new obsession)!

And these are special fibers - the DMCs are in plastic tool chests*.
You will note that I didn't say "organized" within the system.  These are Vikki Clayton's silk Hand-Dyed Fibers. Once I asked her about a certain color, and she asked what design I was using it for.  When I said, none, I just like the color, she laughed ...

These are silk on wooden spools - often called Buttonhole Twist - that I've collected over the years.  I used them primarily when doing embroidery on crazy quilts.  They are mostly Belding - Hemingway, Coats & Clark or Corticelli.
These are a variety of miscellanous silk fibers.  The ones on the big cardboard spools are what is sold today as buttonhole twist, but it's not quite the same as the fiber on the tiny wooden spools.  The little black spools are Krenikik, Soie Perlee - don't know if they make it any more.
These are again some old fibers that I collected when I was into tatting.  They're mostly cotton, but a few lovely silks on the wooden spools.  They're smooth and so fine to touch.
One of these days we'll have show and tell with some buttons!  I hear your question, and No, there is hardly anything that has to do with needle arts that I don't love!
*- the DMCs are in plastic tool chests.  Well, they were.  While moving things about the other day I knocked over one of the chests that fell into the other and pushed half the drawers out, and then I grabbed for it, the others fell out, too.  They're still spread out in there, but I'll get over it one day and put them all back in order!  NO, I'm not showing you that but will show you how they did look.
The forecasters are saying we may be in for more snow Monday or Tuesday.  It’s not that I love snow so much, as you probably guessed, but I really do enjoy the extra stitching time if we don’t have to work!  And since I’m not working today, enough dilly-dallying I’m off to do a little more blog visiting then on to stitching!
Thanks for coming by today.  I look forward to hearing your Needler’s Point and checking in to see what you’ve been up to lately!

Blackbird Designs Update

Hey, Friends!
A couple of updates on my current Blackbird Designs SAL projects.
This is the current status of Winter Wonderland (below).
And here’s Snow Garden (right).
When I was taking pictures of my BBD Snow Garden with the chart, I noticed how much more silver some of the threads had in them in their photo compared to my actual threads.  I also noticed when I was choosing threads from the rack that there was a lot of variation between skeins.  Have you noticed this too?  It could be the dye lot, or the amount of variation in the dying process, but there can be a lot of difference.  Do you think it has made a difference in which fabric you chose or how your project turned out?
Asking that question reminded me that I don’t believe I shared the Poll Results from the standing frame holder question a while ago.  And now I can't find the details, but apparently most friends here don’t use one.
I've decided to post my TUSAL updates in the side column this year.  See à
Thanks for coming by today.  I look forward to hearing your Needler’s Point and checking in to see what you’ve been up to lately!

Cooler Saturday

When I took Pixie out this morning at about 7:30 it was quite nice.  About 73 degrees with very low humidity!  Now a couple of hours later it’s only 75.  Wow – could it be?
A few stitching updates:
The LHN All Dolled Up ornament, Red House in Winter.  I think it is so pretty!  The houses are usually not my favorites, but this one is just precious to me!  It’s done on 28 ct Monaco Tea over one using a variety of over-dyed threads.
Don’t think I ever showed the little fob that goes along with Needle & Thread – Cut & Snip.  Isn’t it sweet?
Caught up on a couple of SALs this week.  Oakhaven’s monthly for July and Needlemania 2 part six!
Hope there is a cool breeze in your part of the world.  Thanks for dropping by, and I’d love to hear your thoughts today!  Off to do a bit of blog surfing...

Back to Work in 2010

I just have to say a great big thank you to everyone who continues to offer congratulations and well wishes for quitting smoking - 8 weeks yesterday.  Your support means the world to me!

Isn’t it funny how at the end of the first week back to work the holidays seem like such a distant memory?  Oh, well – there’ll be another day off later this month.  In the meantime, I’ll sit here with my cuppa, give you a little update, check out what you’ve been up to, then on to some stitching while the Roomba does the floors!  Yeah!!
Notice the old Pyrex percolators on the stove that I picked up at a yard sale?  My 35ish year old cousin was fascinated with it on Christmas Eve.  When I told her at one time they had glass insides, she was amazed.  It made her recall her Dad’s (deceased) Corning cornflower percolator – it was worth the $2 (or whatever) just for that moment with her. Actually, I think it was $10 for those two percolators, Corning cornflower (white with blue flowers) three-piece set of the skillets and a loaf baker, and a naugahyde foot stool – oh, and three amber glass pieces – a very large brandy snifter and two bottles with tops.

With all the SALs I’m participating in, I got Blackbird Designs Peacock Pinkeep, and just HAD to do the needle book with a new color Sulky – Redwork.  I started it Thursday evening, then continued with in for Let’s Stitch on Friday evening.  As you can see, it works up quickly using the Sulky.  It’s over 1 on 28ct linen stash.  I’ve admired this pattern for SO long – don’t they do some of the best?

Speaking of SAL – over at The Sampler Life one of the members, Sabine, created a design in memory of Marc called NeedleMania 2.  I’ve stitched up part one using 18ct in a creamy yellow with DMC 815 and 728.  If I hadn’t had to frog a few times, it would have been quicker.

I know it has been freezing in lots of the world this week, so I hope you’re all warm, sitting with your cuppa, too, and doing what your heart desires!

Thanks for dropping by today, and I hope you’ll come back again, soon!

Christmas Stitch Along

Someone on one of the Yahoo Lists I frequent posted a link to a french website where a Christmas SAL was being offered.  That site is Les Croixxx Et Moi.  Even though in french, you can click on your favorite 'translate' package if you need English.  It is such a pretty design, and there is lots of chatter by those already being finished with part 1.  There are two color selections, and I have chosen to use deeper shades of green and red.  Carole also has other designs available if you're interested.  Have fun.

Floss Toss Help

2/11/09
~~Update~~

My silk order came today - don't you just love that quick service? - and the colors are so great, that really didn't change my opinion of the two that were my favorites - and yours as well. Do you still agree with your first impression? These are scans, but if you click on the picture, you get a better idea of the fabric colors.

I've joined a new cross stitch SAL, Quaker Blues, at MyNiftyNeedle (click on this link to see the original sample). I've decided to do my first project using silk threads, and they're ordered and on the way from Vikki at Hand-Dyed Fibers. What I did was pull DMC colors to choose my fabric, but I'm having a quandary. So if you will, leave me a comment telling me which is your favorite.
