Happy New Year!

As 2014 draws to a close, our Carolina Panthers have won the NFC South Championship for the second year in a row!

Although I didn't stitch every design I had listed for 2014, I did stitch 32 pieces.  Makes me very happy.  These are the final two - Priscilla's Pocket, Stoneware Pinpillows.  There are several more, but these two are stitched.  I meant to say I stitched these with Victorian Motto, Antique Blue with Tan.

Here's my seventh annual Orts Ornament for 2014.

Wishing you a very Happy 2015.

Happy New Year!

Hey, Friends!

Here we are at the end of another year, looking forward to a new one.  I’ve been saying I wanted to finish a project before the end of the year, and here it is.  This is Christmas Band

Sampler by Heartstring Samplery.  I have made a few modifications (who, me?) to the original design, but I love it.  Even though it is a Christmas Sampler, I didn’t want to identify it that way, so I omitted the Merry Christmas – Happy New Year sections.  Since it had to be dropped down. I also left off some of the numbers.  I see that Edgar is stitching this, too, over at Blacksheep's Bit of the Web.

As you may know, I keep my orts in a clear, glass ornament.  Here’s 2013.  They have a page of their own that you will find at the top of the page.

May 2014 be filled with Happy Stitching!

The end of another year...

Hey, Friends!
I hope everyone had a beautiful and Merry Christmas filled with family and friends, good tidings, and great food.  Ours was small and fairly quiet this year, but that is fine with me.

DS took me to a Panther’s game for my birthday!  It was totally awesome.  We went to eat Vietnamese before the game, took the train into the city, and got there in time to see the intros and coin toss.  Loved every minute –we won 30 - 20!  It is really a competitive season so close to the playoffs! @Panthers #KeepPounding

Are you getting ready for the New Year?  Do you have plans to join clubs or challenge groups?  Personally I don’t do so well with those, so my list will be as it comes about.  I’m really trying to get a design that is Christmassy finished so that I can start a new project on New Years’ Day. Will you start a new one, too?  Hopefully I’ll post a pic before Valentines’ Day!

My LNS (Stitch and Frame Shop) is having a pre-inventory sale on Saturday.  The sale also includes a percent off coupon for the New Year.  If you have something in mind, you can participate in the sale online here.

Happy New Year!

Hey, Friends!

…and so, here we are at the end of 2011.  Two significant losses made it sorrowful, so I’m glad it has passed and we’re on to another new year.
How did you wind up the old year?  Did you rock with Ryan, Dick, and GaGa?  For me it was stitching.  The final stitches of 2011 were placed to finish ‘Jingle all the Way’ by The Scarlett House (Tanya).  Man alive, were those snowflakes ever … It’s stitched on 35ct WDW Kudzu using an old favorite DMC 115 and White.  It turned out cute, and will be a sweet finish…next year!
The old TUSAL ball was put to rest, and the brand new one placed for the New Year as well.  If you want to play along, the simple directions can be found here at Daffy Kat’s site.

I also did a bit of last minute end-of-year shopping at my LNS, Stitch and Frame.  Everything was discounted, so there were a few things I had to have (like that piece of Ruby Wine linen)!  I do believe I will try to follow the example of a few friends who have said they will rely more heavily on stash this year.  I NEED to follow that example, so we’ll see how that works out!
2012 – how does that roll off your tongue?  Is it two thousand twelve?  My auto is twenty twelve.  And what does it mean? Well, at one time it was my retirement year – twenty eight years of service to the state of South Carolina in July.  Now there are three years tacked on, but it was ‘a deal I couldn’t refuse.’

The old tales say that “what you do on New Year’s Day is what you’ll do all year.”  Well, much like any other Sunday, my plan is to finish up here then watch football and stitch.  What will the New Year’s first piece be?  I’m planning to add to the tombstone angel collection with Primitive Winged Head Gravestone Sampler by Country Rustic Primitives (Jenny Hoffman).

The tales also say to eat greens and peas (dollars and cents) for the New Year’s good fortune.  This article also lists a few foods to avoid, which I’d never heard about!
What are your desires for 2012?  “The older I get, the more like me I become.”  What does that entail?
v Be grateful
o   Appreciate and give
v Continue the journey
o   Be an example of peace, love, and joy
v Do the things I love with those I care about
o   Not due to guilt or pressure
v Live in the moment
o   Listen and hear, see and experience
I’m grateful for all y’all stitching blog friends – and for each and every comment you send along!

And so… may your New Year be filled with
PeaceëLoveëJoy
and Happy Stitching

Post Christmas

Hey, Friends!
I hope you’ve all had a Very Merry Christmas and are planning for a Happy New Year!  We had a nice Christmas and I’m enjoying the time after even more.  Since our traditional schedule was off a little this year, my parents had our usual Christmas morning breakfast of Country Grits Casserole with sliced tomatoes and crescent rolls with us.  We all enjoyed it a lot!  Edited for clarification, and to include the recipe.
After breakfast, DS and I went shopping for a new car.  He is buying my old lease Nissan Murano.  Having done some preliminary leg work on Monday and since he was off yesterday, we got to go together.  I drove and liked the Prius, but going from a mid-size SUV to a tiny sub was a bit too much change, so I got the Honda Accord.  It was a very hard decision, but think it’s the right one.
While procrastinating preparations before Christmas, I finished a few ornaments.  This LaDDa Merry Christmas started out on off white, but it needed a bit of staining, so into the coffee spa it went.  The little pillow with lace trim and stripes are so much warmer.  The back is deep maroon taffeta.  If you look closely, you can see that 'Rudolph's Nose' ran slightly in the spa!

This Little snowman was a Freebie from Stitch and Frame.  It's my first ornament on felt.  The cutter I have isn't enough of a wave, but it was better than pinking shears.  The cheap scissors I had picked up at Michael's wouldn't cut the felt - must be for paper only.

This is Peppermint Twist from the Little House Needleworks All Dolled Up ornaments.  By the way, I read that they're continuing with this series for 2011 if you love 'em as much as I do - even though I haven't completed 2010.  I decided on a little stocking button instead of jingle bells.  Even the tiny ones were too big on this 28 ct over 1.  It also has a bit of lace around the outside, to match the white stitching around the border, with a gingham ribbon hanger.  And here's  Peace on Earth from the same series.  The fabric in the background is the backing.
I also started a new Blackbird Design project, Winter Wonderland.
Shopping for presents is always fun one for you, two for me!  It's hard to see the dark green shell shaped dish, holding these two delicate porcelain ornaments.

It must have been a real hunting expo since all these birds were found!   The blue is solid - paper weight?  The white is a votive holder, but cute none the less.  The colorful one is a pottery type material, and the little "cage" seemed so perfect to contain him...

This bowl and plate set was found earlier, but don't recall sharing them with you before.
Thanks for coming by today, and I look forward to sharing with you in the New Year!

This New Year and always, may you be surrounded by the gift of friendship, the joys of family, and the spirit of love.

Country GritsMorning of breakfast:  Preheat oven to 350`
Day before serving:
2 lb sausage
½ cup grits
16 oz sharp cheese
½ tsp thyme (I use 1 tsp)
1/8 tsp garlic (I use about ½ tsp)
1/8 tsp salt
4 eggs
1 cup milk

Crumble and brown sausage, drain if needed, set aside to cool.
Cook grits in 2 cups water per package directions, then add grated cheese while grits are hot.  Add spices, milk, lightly beaten eggs, and sausage.  Stir all together until well blended.  Cover and place in refrigerator overnight.  In the morning, take out of ‘frig for at least 15 minutes before cooking.  Cook for about 45-50 minutes.  I have split this recipe and it works out very well.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, dear friends and gentle readers!

What a year it has been, and as everyone else I hope for 2010 to be a better year for our world, our country, and our homes.  I hope for everyone who wishes to have a job, the best there is!  I hope the economy is so great that not a single tummy goes hungry nor a pinky toe is cold!  Most of all, I hope for peace among friends, family, fellow countrymen, and around the world.

Looking forward to a new year of stitching?  Yes, so am I.  I’m going to try to keep some goals for 2010, but knowing me there will be other things that pop up and get done among these!

2009 was a pretty good year for completions for me.  I went to a couple of stitching retreats – one is finished and a new one made from the idea is almost stitched.  The second retreat project is stitched and waiting to be sewn together.    These are in my sidebar for 2009 Cross Stitch and will be changed to 2010 goals and completions after a while.

2008~ New Year ~

The New Year is approaching quickly, so it's time for a review of 2007.

What a great year it has been. Personally, I guess the most exciting thing has been that I've reached my goal weight. With lots of love and support from friends (Stash4Pounds) and family, I've lost 50 pounds. It took a little more than a year, but well worth the effort. I feel better, and feel like I look better as well. During the holidays, I've splurged a bit, but feel confident that the wagon is waiting for me to jump back on.

I've been a single Mom for 26 years, so my son and I are VERY close. He has been on his life path quest for several years, but this year he moved back home, with his Great Dane, Kilo, to go back to college and pursue a degree in computer networking. There have been some adjustments to make, especially for Pixie, but we're all getting along just fine - and Mom has to brag a bit and say he made the President's list for his first term!

My family lost two members this year, my mom's brother and her oldest sister, too. Mom's baby sister, my closest aunt, continues to battle ovarian cancer. The struggle is up and down, but we had a second Christmas during her battle this year. My dad has a growth on his kidney, and after several appointments for surgery having fallen through, it is once again scheduled for January 2. There have been lots of illnesses and losses throughout all the online lists, which is inevitable for such a vast community, and I continue to lift them during their struggles. I am very thankful for their prayers and positive thoughts during my family's valley times this year as well.

I continue to have what I fondly call Crafters' ADD - my attention goes from one thing to the next. That does not mean I love embroidery, tatting, or CQ any less, my focus is just someplace else for the time being. Currently it is Cross Stitch, and after about a 20 year hiatus, it has made its way back to the forefront! They've all made their way into focus at some point or other this year, and I've collected lots of stash for each, so I'll be ready when any of the others make their way into focus again!! I'm confident that they will - it just may be a while.

I mentioned to someone yesterday one of my favorite quotes, "The older I get, the more like me I become." I am refining the online groups I will continue to be active in. It's really hard for me to withdraw from them because friends on the lists are so dear, and the feelings there are warm and cozy. Many of the member friends are associated with several lists, so I'll continue to 'see' them on other lists, but of course they're more active on some than others. I do use Bloglines, so they will still be accessible through their blogs. Back to the original thought - refining commitments... Some lists are more active with projects, swaps, RRs, etc. and a part of the reason for leaving is that I don't want to falter when making promises to participate. I was in a Secret Santa swap on one of the lists, and my poor recipient is still waiting for her final gift/reveal. It's in there, ready to be wrapped and mailed, so it will be a New Year reveal for her!

I stumbled across a blog where the writer claimed to be tired of reading about this one or that ones apology for not posting in ever so long, and I agreed, so I too will be Blogging Without Obligation. I don't think there's anything earth shattering about the things I share, so does it really make a difference if I miss a few days? My intent is to share photos or ideas, or seek suggestions from friends. I do like for you to stop by, and love to hear your comments, but you really don't want to read something I've had to make up just to say I posted today! Like I said earlier, I use BlogLines, and it tells me when my friends or other blogs I've indicated have updated their blogs so there's no time wasted dropping by to see if they have been.

And so for the New Year I wish us all happiness, health, joy, peace, and love.
