Coffee and Friends | VIDEO with Natalie

To be fair there's nothing quite the same as getting a new stamp set in your hands as you wonder about all the possibilities it holds. But today I'm wanting to change tack a little bit and get you thinking about how you can use some of your older stamps in new ways by mixing and matching various sets you have in your collection.

Although on first impressions it might seems like all the stamps I've used here were made to work together, they actually come from THREE different sets (and their matching dies).
I've used 'Perfect Blend' for the sentiment and the coffee cup, 'Lumberjack Love' for the girl, and 'Floral Heart' for... well...... the floral heart!

Here's some tips to keep in mind when mixing and matching stamp sets:
  • Start by picking a sentiment that inspires you to create a scene
  • Choose images that work together to build that scene
  • Keep in mind the scale of your different elements - they shouldn't be too disproportionate
  • Sticking with a simple colour scheme helps the images appear even more cohesive

In my video today I'm going to share my process of creating this card from start to finish. Not only will you get an insight into my inspiration and how I built up the idea from there, but you'll also get an peek into my real life such as how I store my stamps, and how I create with my kids around ;-)

Do you mix and match your stamp sets? Which sets have you combined before? Share in the comments because I'm sure we'd all love to check them out!

More than Coffee

It's Friday and out January guest designer Stephanie Klauck is back!  She created a video to share with us today too!  Here's Stephanie:

Hi everyone, it's Stephanie here with another card to share. For today's card I wanted to do a little watercolouring and I thought the Perfect Blend stamp set would work great for the idea I had.

So I stamped out a bunch of the coffee cups from the stamp set onto watercolour paper using Versafine ink and then I added colour to all of them using watercolours and a #0 round watercolour brush.

Once I had them all painted, I let them dry and created a watercolour wash for the background on another cardstock panel. I cut out the coffee cups using my scissors once they were dry and then I adhered them in a stack on the background I created. I love the messy watercolour on the cups against the background I created.

I stamped the sentiment from the same stamp set onto a strip of watercolour paper so it would match with the background panel and then I trimmed it out. I used foam tape to adhere it to my card, just under the stack of cups.

To finish the card I added some clear sequins and then adhered the panel to a top-folding grey card base.
You can see how I created the card in the video below:

Thanks for joining me on the blog today! I'll be back next week with one more card to share.

January Guest Designer: Stephanie Klauck!

Happy Friday!  We're excited to introduce you to our first guest designer of the year, Stephanie Klauck!  Stephanie has an amazing clean and simple style, with bold pops of color or texture, and she's a true artist, you should definitely check out her Disney princess drawings on her blog, Round Here.  Here's Stephanie with a little more about herself:

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I have been a part of the paper crafting industry since around 2003. I love to create and share my creations online on my blog as well as my other favourite social media site, Instagram! ;)

I have been published with various paper crafting magazines throughout the years, including Scrapbook and Cards Today, Creating Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks, among others. I originally started out as a scrapbooker, but focus most of my craft time now on cardmaking and have recently gotten very interested in colouring and drawing.

I reside in Ontario, Canada with my husband Steve and two children, Caitlyn and Ryan. I work full-time in an administrative position and spend the rest of my time hanging out with family and friends, crafting, watching NHL and Nascar and reading on my kindle.

I am so excited to be guesting on the Neat & Tangled blog this month. For my first post I wanted to create a card using the adorable images from the Better Together stamp set. I had an idea in my head to stamp and colour the cute kids and have them stand together on the world.

To create my world, I cut out an arch shape from white cardstock that would fit on the bottom of my card stock panel and then I drew a rough sketch of the top of the globe on it with pencil. Once I was happy with it, I traced over it with a black Copic multi-liner and then I coloured it in with Copic markers before attaching it to my card stock panel.

I adhered the 3 kids to the top of the globe so it looks like they are standing on the world together. I adhered the middle girl with foam adhesive and the other two directly on the card.

To create my sentiment, I used two different sentiment stamps from the Perfect Blend stamp set, cut them apart, and changed up the words to work with my card design. I wanted to add a little something that went with the love part of the sentiment so I stamped a tiny heart from the Say Yes To Donuts stamp set, onto the world with red ink.

Thanks for joining me today on the N&T blog! I'll be back next week with another card to share! ;)

{Super Sponsor} Fall 2016 Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

As you all know, Neat & Tangled design team member Amy Tsuruta runs several Coffee Lovers Blog Hops throughout the year and the Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop is on now through Friday! Neat & Tangled is a Super Sponsor and there are many prizes to be won so I hope you'll join us!

I combined four different sets to create my card. I watercoloured the Hooray Die, as well as the coffee mugs from Perfect Blend, using Gansai paints. The background was created using the Graduated Stripes Cover Plate, backed with patterned paper from Crate Paper's Cute Girl 6x6 paper pad. I added to the sentiment with a partial from Big Top Birthday. To finish, I attached a white hemp cord bow and tiny pearls to the wreath.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
