Whimsical Wednesday

Preface: Simon lost his collar while prowling around the neighborhood. This was not a great tragedy since it had our old address on it. Brian and I have both been saying that we need to get a replacement. Procrastination rules at our house.
Ginny: I had Ramen Noodles for lunch today daddy! (a rarity)
Daddy: Hey! Now we know you can survive college since you love cold cereal, Ramen, and Mac & Cheese.
Ginny: Yeah, and Simon lost his college.

You know the really great water pitchers they give you at the hospital? I always try to make mine last forever, but alas my children get to them and chew on the straw etc. Ginny picked mine up and said, "mommy, I can sound like a bird, LOOK" and blew through the straw. Surprisingly it did sound exactly like the pigeons cooing on Mary Poppins. Must be the ribs in the thick plastic. Maybe that's how they made the pigeon sounds... or real pigeons, who knows?

Moments ago during bedtime prayers...
Me: Abby, what do we do during prayers?
Abby: close our eyes (etc.)
Brian: why aren't your eyes closed?
Abby: (in a pitiful voice) Because my dreams might turn on.

Happy Birthday Abby!

ABBY THEN
My baby turned FIVE today. I spent a few minutes glancing through our many pictures of Abby. I can't believe how much can happen in five years. It brought back some wonderful memories. I had a better baby picture than this in mind but it's not letting me upload any more for some strange reason.
ABBY NOW
Quite a few family members are coming into town for the baby blessing next weekend so we thought we would hold off on celebrating until then. She did get one present though... a butterfly garden with 10 caterpillars that she can observe turning into butterflies. They are still in little cup thingies until they create their cocoons. We have to check them out often and she gets really excited when they crawl to the roof thinking they are getting ready. They certainly have grown a lot in two days- very impressive. Thank you Grandma Betty!

Whimsical Wednesday

Favorite whimsical synonyms: capricious, changeable, erratic, excessively playful, fanciful, fantastical, fickle, freakish, mercurial, ticklish, unpredictable.

I want to start recording some of the ticklish things that my kids and/or their cousins say or do through out the week as well any odd little thing that amuses me. Okay, so really this is open to just about anything... Life is so unpredictable, so changeable, why pigeon-hole myself?
I tend to over use the word "random" and I find the word "whimsical" so endearing and there is that convenient alliteration with "Wednesday" so voila I have a marginally creative post title. Which, sadly, makes my day. Look for future whimsical posts... they may often be more random than whimsical but I'm all about looks (sounds?), ahem. (I genuinely hope that's not true).
Abby and Emma were playing a fun game at dinner. "Do you know how to spell (fill in the blank)?" With simple words such as "cat" and "the". Then Emma got a little brave and asked Abby if she could spell "sour cream". Abby, as Emma had anticipated, was completely stumped for the first time all evening. Emma, with a rather superior smugness (again with the alliteration, ugh), informed Abby that she COULD spell sour cream, "D-A-I-S-Y". The sour cream container just happened to be sitting right in front of Emma. Brian and I split our sides for a moment and then agreed this would make an excellent commercial- not that I have anything against their little jingle, "Do, do, do, do- Do a dollop of daisy!".

Ginny came to me saying "their is something in my nose!" I told her there wasn't ( ahhh, motherish skepticism) since nothing apparent was sticking out of her nose. She would not drop the issue so I took a closer look. Their was a lovely orange bead shoved pretty far up there. Luckily it came out with some tweezers. What is it with kids and sticking things in orifices? NOTE TO SELF: remind Tailynn and Emma that they need to empty their pockets of large amounts of beads and/or bracelets, necklaces, etc. that are likely to come apart before putting their clothes in the wash. Also, when aforementioned large amounts of beads are flung about as each item of clothing emerges from the dryer pick them up IMMEDIATELY.
