Just over a year ago, someone, or some group, decided it would be a good idea to knock the top bricks off the wall bordering our pasture. We were not too happy to discover those bricks knocked off the greater part of the southern side of our wall, lying on the ground, a number of them broken.
We weren't able to find time to fix our wall until this fall. I originally thought the job would be pretty simple. As a kid, I remember watching someone down our street laying bricks, and I remember thinking that it looked so easy. Wow was I wrong!
I don't know if you have ever tried your skills at brick laying, but we soon realized it wasn't going to be the relatively quick one day project we had hoped. We first had to chip off the old cement from the wall and the bricks, at least as much as that was possible. Luckily for us, our home teacher volunteered to help some with this. Actually laying the bricks down and getting them to stick with the mortar was much more challenging than I had anticipated. Luckily, we improved with some practice, but it was still a slow process.
The end results are far from perfect. They aren't even that particularly pretty. But we are happy to say we are finally done.
We actually finished a couple weeks ago, but are just now getting a chance to post about it. In the pictures below, Nate is at the place were we started laying from.

September Numbers
September was so very busy for us I figured the best way to summarize it would be to review some the numbers:
And, since I never got around to posting any 4 month old pictures of Austin:
- 9.5 pints of salsa
- 3 pints of canned tomatoes using those leftover from salsa
- 1 box and then some of peaches = 3.5 pints of peach jam, 3 pints and 2 half pints of peach syrup, 6 pint jars of bottled peaches, 4 zip-lock bags of dried peaches, two quarts of frozen peaches, and some peach cobbler
- 1/2 box of Italian Prunes = 5 plus jars of plum jam, 1.5 zip-lock bags of dried plums, and still some more to go
- 10 green bell peppers, washed, cut, and dried
- 57 years of marriage celebrated on Grandma and Grandpa Peaden's anniversary:
- 26 top bricks laid on the damaged brick wall bordering our pasture (and many more to go)
