Smile

So Alhamdulillah a week before Raya ago I just had my vision corrected and to say that it changed my life is an understatement. Alhamdulillah for this decision, the only regret was why didn’t I do it sooner. This is the second best decision made in my life - the first best is getting married  πŸ€ͺ I did ReLEx SMILE because I read that it is the least abrasive procedure compared to LASIK and the recovery takes overnight. And they were right. I didn’t feel any pain during the procedure. 3-4 hours post-surgery, I felt stinging pain and very uncomfortable and went straight to sleep. But right after, everything was superb except for dry eyes which only needed regular eye drops. The day after I could read my phones and small letters from the laptop. Vision was a bit blurry, halos appeared during the night, I’d say my sight was 90%. Third day, everything was perfect.  My right eye was -7.5 and left one was -6.5. Enough to say when I took off my glasses I turned “blind”. No more

When Amru started Year 1 last 3 months, that meant he had to start reading too. I know this is against any parental ethics to compare between children, but I have to admit that Amru is not a letter person. He just didn't get that when n meets a it should sound na. Unlike any 5yos, he just didn't show interest on literacy, refused to be taught any blending letters. I tried many interesting methods and approaches, it just didn't work on him. He even refused to write, to actually hold a pencil and scribble something on the paper. No, won't do that for the world.  His former class teacher Ms Y, she even mentioned that Amru was a poor child who just didn't get reading. (I mean what kind of teacher is thatπŸ‘Š) and started comparing with other 5yo students blabla (again, what kind of teacher is thatπŸ‘ŠπŸ‘Š) Anxious and maybe frustrated, one day I said to him ok how about we create an interesting story together. You tell your story, mama would write it down, and then w

Samgyetang on Malbok day

Image
In Korea there are 3 days that are said to be the hottest days during summer, known as Boknal (literally translated to dog days - I think).  1st day is Chobok 2nd day is Jungbok 3rd day is Malbok Since it was Malbok last thursday, Master Sabrina from Amru's taekwondo center gave out a baby ginseng root to everyone to make samgyetang (삼계탕). And whoever has samgyetang (or eat the ginseng raw as salads) for meal they will get 5 points! Ok lets learn a little bit of korean history. In the past koreans will indulge in a bowl of dog stew to cool off the body against the summer heat especially during these 3 days. The dog stew is said to be highly nutritious and will strengthen their body during this testing period. But nowadays dog meats are becoming controversial to make stews with, so the koreans use ginseng instead and make chicken ginseng stew (or what they call as samgyetang). A spring chicken is stuffed with pulut and boiled in garlic, onion, red dates and gins

I bought a book on financial management (financial whaa? It was prolly something I wouldn't buy when I was younger) earlier 2016. It was a simple book guiding where should your money go and how to manage it with style. The language used rolled right with my tongue and there was nothing too complicated to understand. Maybe it was too late for me because I no longer had monthly paychecks to invest anywhere. But I still find it very useful nevertheless especially on daily spendings and expenditure. Got 20% rebate from Popular. As I read along, the book slowly shattered a perception I once had. It was actually the beginning of my financial realisation journey. From then on, I started to read a lot of resources on managing money, investments and a lot other inspiring stories and tips on moderation and minimalism. I didn't know (or maybe I did, but wasn't aware) that consumerism is a threat, a herd threat to be specific. But that's just how the retail business gr

Graduation

I found my graduation ceremony handbook for my undergraduate studies from 8 years ago. And on the inside cover was what mama wrote to the 23-yo me, who was then anxious if she would trip on the stage because the borrowed heeled shoes didn’t really fit. (Must thank Alak for the shoes and the black outfit) I should be more proud with mama who has always proved to stand tall despite everything. Won’t deny that there’s a minuscular streak of regret that I couldn’t attend my masters graduation ceremony (which happened some days ago) because otherwise I would have her comforting words of hope and wisdom written on my convo handbook again. She’s a passionate writer who always finds time to write. I want to be like her. But after all, it’s just a ceremony and only a social media worthy (well, coming from someone who couldn’t attend all the gloryπŸ˜‹).  The knowledge and wisdom gained from this 2-year journey was a treasure enough to me and to say that “I’ve learned a lot” is alre

Nabi sulaiman a.s

Image
Amru loves the story of nabi sulaiman. I bet every kid loves the story because nabi sulaiman has a very special superpower to talk and understand the animals language. And kids love animals.  I would tell him the same story over and over again during the night, afternoon, in the car... Technically all the time when he's not busy with his toys and little brother.  And every end of the session, he would recite this du'a:  Ya Allah, jadikanlah amru boleh cakap ngan binatang macam nabi sulaiman.. One day I decided to tell him the truth, amru, yg boleh ckp ngan binatang tu nabi sulaiman je, sebab dia special, Allah jadikan dia nabi.  And then he recited this one: Ya Allah, jadikanlah amru nabi amru.  Ok mama esok amru dah boleh cakap ngan binatang dah kan? Ok that was funny.  And the other day, he saw a stray cat, and started meowing with the cat. "Mama tgk ni amru boleh dah cakap ngan cat" Haha.. Pasni jangan ngaku nabi sudah πŸ˜‚ astaghfirullah πŸ˜‚
