Our thoughts...

Pastor Joakim Lundqvist is from Pastor Ulf Ekman's Word Of Life Church back in Sweden. Pastor Joakim is the director of Word of Life Bible Centre. He shared a very good sermon in CHC KL. Enjoy the message below!Title: Where is Jesus Going? Matthew 4:18 - 20 18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Main Question: Where is Jesus Going? We often say that we're followers of Christ, but where is Jesus heading? Do we know? Often we do not ask where is Jesus going. We'll say Jesus! We will follow you wherever you go. But where is He going? We need to know where is Jesus going to be followers of Christ! Luke 15 Look into this chapter of the bible and you'll find the answer. It has 3 parables with the same context telling us the same basic truths. Its like if you read the 1st parable and didnt get it, there's a 2nd parable for you. If you didnt get the first two parables, there comes the 3rd parable answering the question of where Jesus is going. Few same common points the parables have. All 3 parables have something in the right place and something in the wrong place. Right Place ........... Wrong Place .................. Represents God 99 Sheeps .................. 1 Sheep ............................. Shepherd 9 Coins ........................ 1 Coin ................................. Woman 1 Son ........................... 1 Son .................................. Father Which one of these 2 categories (Right / Wrong) gets God's main attention? In the first parable, its the 1 sheep that was lost that gets the Shepherd's attention. In the second parable it is that 1 coin that gets the woman's attention. In the last parable, it is the lost son that gets the Father's attention. All three people were looking for the things that were lost until they found them. Jesus's attention is turned to the lost ones. Jesus looks for the lost ones. As He's looking for the lost ones, He will turn to us and ask, will you follow Me? Not only to Service, CGM or PM. But will we really follow Jesus to were He's really going? And that is out to find the lost sheep, coin, sons and daughters of this world. In the last days, the Christian World will head in 2 different directions. Let us all follow the right direction and be a true follower of Jesus Christ. Not the one who just go through the weekly services and cell group meetings and be happy that we're saved. I'll also share one of the five real life stories that Pst. Joakim shared. For the other four, let me know if you wanna hear them! =) The Titanic took three and a half hours before it fully sank. When the disaster stroke and the titanic hit the ice berg, the emergency alarm had sounded but people did not react as they thought that they were in no danger. (The Titanic used some of the most advanced technology available at the time and was popularly believed to have been described as "unsinkable.") There were lifeboats and after one hour, the first lifeboat went down into the water. It has the capacity to save 70 people, but only 21 onboard. Same for the second lifeboat, capacity 70 but only 21 onboard. Third lifeboat capacity 70 but only 12 onboard. People were still asleep and they didnt even realise that they're in danger. When the titanic went down, the lifeboats that were less than half filled has already safely went into the waters. The first disaster was of course the sinking of the ship. The second was that when the ship went down, about 1500 people were fighting for their lives in the cold freezing waters. But the lifeboats happily rowed away, happy that they were safe and okay. They chose to row away even though they heard and saw the cries of the people in the water. This is the self-centred version of Christianity that we can develop into. Scary isnt it? You see, when we have Jesus, we are already in the lifeboats. Our lives went down before and then came this lifeboat named "Jesus" that saved our lives. Now that we are saved, we are definitely happy about that. But you know what? There are still people in the waters and its time for us to turn our lifeboats around, making sure that we go back, following Jesus to the lost ones to save as many as possible. See in the last days, we can be Christians that are just happy about our salvation and not care about others. But there will be Christians who will follow Jesus all the way to the lost world. That same night when the titanic was sinking, there was one other version of Christianity that was presented. It was presented through this man John Harper. John was on the way to Chicago to preach in a Christian Convention. He was one of the first few people who knew about the crash and ran to the first lifeboat. But when he reached the first lifeboat he didnt climb into it. Instead, he hugged his daughter, kissed her and put her in the lifeboat and said he'll see her later. Then he went back, pounded on the doors or the cabins, shouting "Women, children and unsaved people into the lifeboats now!" He could have gotten into the lifeboats and save his own life. But he chose another version of Christianity. He ended to be one of those who was fighting for his life in the freezing water. There were cries all around, people struggling to stay alive in the water. But there was one voice that was yelling and screaming louder than the rest. The voice of John Harper saying "Believe in the Name of the Lord Jesus and you will be saved." Only God knows how many people He saved that night. That with their last breath, they called out "Jesus! Save me!" Just because of one man who followed Jesus to the lost ones. John Harper. Here comes the other four stories Pastor Joakim shared! Marcus and Daniel: Marcus was the only christian in his school and he started to pray for his friends, for the lost ones in schools. He prayed so hard and became so passionate about it. Then he thought to himself that he needs to share this with someone! But he faces the problem of very few people willing to listen to what he has to say. Then one day he prayed and prayed and prayed, got so frustrated because he didnt see any breakthough in his school. He made up his mind that when he reaches the school today, he will go up to the first person he meets and he's going to say something about the Lord. So he went to school and met Daniel. At that time he didnt know who Daniel was or even that Daniel was his name! Marcus was not a born evangelist and was a very shy guy. This was like a great challenge to him! But he walked up to this guy Daniel and he said "You know what! You should come with me tonight!" Then Marcus just left. Marcus should have said something about Jesus, but it came out wrong instead. Daniel never seen Marcus before but he quickly walk up to Marcus and said "Okay" because Daniel thought he was invited to a Party! Daniel went back to him home after school, put on his best clothes and got ready for the party. He went over to this house where Marcus told him to come. The door was opened by Marcus's mother and Daniel thought, why is the mother at home? There's suppose to be a party here! Marcus left out a tiny detail that Daniel was actually invited to a prayer group. Daniel has never heard the gospel before and never attended any church meetings. He then sat down and the group began to sing. He freaked out. Then the group started to pray. Daniel thought to himself what kind of group is this! I dont know how to pray. Suddenly some one speaks and asked if anybody needed a prayer. Daniel didnt know why but his mouth started to move, like he lost control of them. He said "Could you all pray for my grandfather who has just been diagnosed with cancer?" So everybody prayed for Daniel's grandfather who had less than a month to live as diagnosed by the doctor. Daniel then left the prayer group feeling weird and puzzled. One week later, his mother came to him and told Daniel, that they have the latest reports of grandpa. The cancer that looked like it was going to destroy his life is now gone! Daniel then asked his mom when did they take these x-rays. It turned out that they took these x-rays the day after the group prayed. Daniel then gave his life to the Lord and is now serving the Lord passionately! All of us holds the key to salvation. We can choose to use it or not too. But let us all use it! Dont just keep the key and let it rust! Sarah: Sarah aged 16 was a christian for less than three months when she stated a new generation group and started to pray for her friends and for her school. The Lord gave her a School Revival! In less than 6 months, Sarah led 35 of her friends to the Lord. One day Pastor Joakim got a call from Sarah's Youth Pastor. The Youth Pastor told Pastor Joakim that Sarah has been diagnosed with Cancer and she has less than a year to live. On hearing that, Pastor Joakim got Sarah's number and gave her a call. To his surprise, on the other side of the line, a bubbly girl answered the call with enthusiasm. Pastor Joakim then asked, is this Sarah? Just to double confirm he didnt get the wrong number. Pastor Joakim was expecting a sad, soft, broken voice but it turned out otherwise. Sarah got so excited when Pastor Joakim called and she exclaimed "WOW! Hallelujah! Praise God! Hi Pastor, i've got loads of things to share with you that God has been doing in my school!" Sarah goes on for 15 minutes telling Pastor testimonies after testimonies. After 15 minutes, she stopped to breathe. Pastor Joakim then told Sarah that he heard some bad news from her Youth Pastor. Sarah replied "Oh. You mean the cancer." She then continued "Pastor, you know alot of people in our Church tell me that God can heal people and stuff? I guess he can but i just dont know much about that. But you know what? This is how i see it..." She said "Even if i die from this within a year, my only concern is that i will bring as many people as possible with me into heaven." Six months later, Sarah did a big Jesus Concert in her school and the whole school was there. Pastor Joakim also attended this meeting and he recounted that he saw Sarah on stage sharing her testimony and she had a paper in her hand. At the end of the testimony, she said "Everyone of you know that i was diagnosed with cancer just a few months ago, but you know what? This is a paper from my doctor that i got yesterday saying the cancer is no longer found in my body and i'm all well again." Even when facing death, Sarah's only concern is to win souls for the Kingdom of God. Wow... What a great testimony. Are we going all the way for Jesus? Empress of Ireland: Less than 24 hours after it set sail, the Empress of Ireland collided with a Norwegian ship and it went down. This ship went down in 40 minutes. There were no chances of getting any lifeboats down as the ship sank really quick. People were lucky if they had gotten themselves out and got a life vest with them. A rescue boat came only 1 hour later and the survivors were interviewed. The sequence of events were then knitted. It turned out that on board this ship, there were 120 members from the Salvation Army. These young members were on their way to a Youth Conference in London. It turned out that when they got into the water, many of them got themselves a life vest beforehand. But when they got into the water, everyone of them reacted in the same manner. Nobody told them what to do but they all spontaneously reacted in the same way. As soon as they saw someone in the freezing cold water without a life vest, they took off their life vest and threw it to the person in need. Realising that by doing that, they gave away their own life to save someone else. It turned out that many of the survivors were given life vest by these young people. Out of all the testimonies, came one from a man who was 38 years old. He was struggling in the water and from a far, he saw a young woman fighting the waves and swimming towards him. When he was about to sink down, he thought to himself that he was not prepared to die! The young woman fought the tides and swam close enough to throw him her only life vest. The man took it. Part of him told him he should keep the life vest but the other told him that he should not. She was just a girl. 18 years old, half his age, so much life left to live. So he took the life vest and threw it back to her and said "No, save yourself instead!" She became furious. She took the life vest and once more she threw it back to the man. She said "Take it, i will die better than you." Because she knew where she was going. Yohanna: Yohanna was on her way to her prayer group and while walking, she prayed to God saying "God, use me NOW!" She stopped to look around to see if anything will happen. 2 seconds after she said this prayer, she saw this girl walking towards here, crying and talking on the phone. In a few seconds time, Yohanna knew that this girl would have walked past her. She knew on the inside that this has to got to do with the prayer she just made. Swedish are emotionally and socially handicapped (Pastor said so), so we will never see anyone revealing their emotions in public. But this girl was crying! So Yohanna did the most un-swedish thing. She stretched out her arms in the middle of the road. To her surprise, the girl walked right into her arms. Then Yohanna thought to herself "Lord, what do i do now??" Yohanna started praying on the inside and she asked this girl, "Would you like to come with me to my prayer group?" The girl was crying so hard that she could not even speak. But she nodded her head against Yohanna's shoulders. When Yohanna reached her friend's place, she quickly told her friends about the incident. There were 2 other girls besides Yohanna that was suppose to pray that day. Her friends understood and thought that it must be a God thing! So they hugged the girl and prayed for her, told her about Jesus. The girl cried and cried and cried, didnt say anything and left. Yohanna exchanged their emails before the girl left and a week later, Yohanna received an email from the girl. It turned out that the girl had planned her suicide to be on that day she met Yohanna. She has planned long ago that she will die that day as she didnt find any meaning to life. She has only one friend and she planned that she will call her only friend just a few minutes away from home so that there will not be enough time for her friend to stop her from committing suicide. But when she called her friend, she got so emotional that she started crying. Part of her wanted to live yet she saw no point in living. Then she saw Yohanna standing right in front of her with her arms wide open. She dont know why but she went straight into Yohanna's arms. When Yohanna held her, some kind of hope started and she thought to herself, maybe there's still a reason, maybe there's a way. Then Yohanna brought her to this prayer group and told her about this Jesus who loves her and has a plan for her life. The last words in the email to Yohanna is "I would like to know more about this Jesus you spoke about." The girl now has accepted Jesus and has a reason to go on living. Which direction of Christianity are we heading towards to? Maybe its time for us to ponder for a moment... [Isabel] @8:39 PM Friday, September 18, 2009

Prayer Corner Pray for me! (click to enter prayer request) Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." James 5:16-18 "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit. [James 5:16-18]" Our Leaders Pst Kong. Pst Kong's Twitter account. Yi Lun. Lun's Twitter account.
