Singaporean held hostage at Mumbai’s Oberoi Hotel killed

Any life loss through Terrorism is really sad. And I am refering to the latest victim Ms Lo Hwei Yen, a lawyer at a Singapore—based offshore law firm, who was in Mumbai on a working trip.

All the government bodies ought to unite and capture all these inhumane humans .. .Stop them ..sigh..

I am traumatised.

SINGAPORE : The Singaporean held hostage at the Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai had contacted family members in Singapore, who then alerted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) about the situation. MFA received the call at about 6.15am on Thursday. The ministry confirmed that the hostage is a Singaporean Chinese woman and that she has not been harmed. It is believed that she was in the city on business, and is one of 20 foreigners taken hostage. MFA said it is working closely with the Indian authorities to secure the safe release of the Singaporean hostage. "We were contacted by the family members to the predicament of the Singaporean in Mumbai. They were contacted by the Singaporean," said Jai Sohan, director of Consular Directorate at MFA. The ministry said it has made arrangements for the family to be flown to Mumbai on Thursday afternoon. A two-man ministry taskforce is expected to join its consular officers from New Delhi who are flying to Mumbai to provide assistance to Singaporeans there. Some 115 Singaporeans on holiday or business in the Indian city have registered with the MFA. Seven were stranded after the hotels they were staying at, namely the Taj Mahal and Oberoi Trident, were attacked. MFA said the seven have since been relocated to secure places in the city. But early Thursday morning, the ministry was alerted to one Singaporean being held hostage at the Oberoi Trident Hotel. The ministry has also refuted reports that a Singaporean has been injured in the Mumbai attacks. However, it said it has not been able to contact four out of the 115 Singaporeans who registered their presence in the Indian city with the ministry. The updates were given at a second media conference by the ministry at 6.30pm on Thursday. Singapore's High Commissioner in New Delhi has arrived in Mumbai to oversee the safety and care of those stranded there. MFA said Singapore strongly condemns the attacks and conveyed its deepest condolences to the victims, their families, the government of India and its people. It said the Mumbai attacks underscored the common terrorist threat that we continue to face today, and Singapore stands firmly behind the Indian government in its fight against terrorism. The ministry and the Singapore Consulate-General in Mumbai are closely monitoring the situation in the city. Should Singaporeans require assistance, they can contact the Singapore Consulate-General in Mumbai or the MFA Duty Officer at 6379-8800 or 6379-8855. When in Mumbai, MFA has advised Singaporeans to take the necessary precautions for their personal safety. During this period, Singaporeans are advised to monitor local news reports and be prepared to face inconveniences in their travel. If Singaporeans do not have a pressing need to travel to Mumbai, they are advised to postpone their travel to a later date. Should they decide to travel, they are advised to register with the ministry at www.mfa.gov.sg. This will enable the ministry and the Consulate-General in Mumbai to contact Singaporeans and render them the necessary consular assistance in case of emergencies. All Singaporeans travelling abroad are also encouraged to purchase comprehensive medical and travel insurance. - CNA/938LIVE/ls

Importance of Sleep

A man can go two weeks without eating. But if he doesn't rest at all, he can only survive for one week. Sleeping provides us the time to restour internal organs, eyes and brains. Poor sleep quality can cause internal damageto our internal organs and brains. Therefore, sleeping is very important to us.If you wish to have a long life and stay healthy, please take note of theadvice below.

5 DON'TS when you are sleeping

DON'T SLEEP WITH WATCH. Watches can emit a certain level of radioactivity. Though small, but if youwear your watch to bed for a long time, it might have adverse effects on yourhealth.

DON'T SLEEP WITH BRA. Scientists in Americahave discovered those that wear bras for more than 12 hours have a higher riskof getting breast cancer. So go to bed without it.

*Women, pls take note!

DON'T SLEEP WITH PHONE. Putting the phone beside your bed or anywhere near you is not encouraged.Though some of us will use phones as alarm clocks, but please put the phone asfar as possible. Scientists have proved that electrical items including mobilephone and television sets emit magnetic waves when used. These waves can causedisruptions to our nervous system. Therefore if you need to put your mobilephone near you, switch it off first.

*Kaiyu, Are u reading this?

DON'T SLEEP WITH MAKE UP. People who sleep with make up might have skin problems in the long run.Sleeping with make up will cause the skin to have difficulty in breathing andproblem in perspiring. You will also need a much longer time to go into deepsleep.

PC Show

I am bursting with excitement ever since I came back from the PC show. I would love to own aUMPC- Kohjinsha SR8 series. ITs so darn attractive, i'm going down again later to get it. Its $1399 (original $1599).

Features: 7" Touch screen, Tablet, dvd rewritable, all only weighing 985g.

I was also mesmerized by the Ipod Touch cos its also soo attractive. But after reading the not-so-good user reviews, i'm having second thoughts.

Harmful effects of Microwave

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.

8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

I'll never eat anything microvaved again. Yikes. wonder how many healthy cells have i killed when i was in perth. Good thing my microvave is spoilt now & we're not getting a new one. I will boycott microvaved food fr now on.

Lost

I feel so inadequate. Today, my mgr smsed me the days & timing that she's available to meet my clients. But i am still fearful. Why is this happening? Sigh. . .

Where is my courage, O Lord. . Praying for wisdom.

On the Job

The Financial adviser's training course this 2 weeks was of tremendous help. Even tho' its my second time listening to some of the materials, its served as a reminder for me. This the end of my introductory training. So, What's next installed? I'll have to internalise the soft skills i've learnt, and make them my own. My product knowledge is still weak at this moment, next week the manager will be going thru a structured programme for me. I chose to learn more abt investments over insurance first. This long wkend i'll have to read up on some materials esp the terms so that i won't be so blur. shld be good i think, as long as i can link to application. hahaha

This job is great in the long haul, its important that i fine-tune my mentality & not be overly anxious abt making that "sales", it has to be a sustainable long term goal or I will be out v. soon. Some of these challenges wld be painful i.e. rejection & failure.

Success is a lousy teacher, it seduces successful
people into thinking that they cannot fail
These quotes will come in very useful. hahahaha motivating & reaffirmations has to be reinforced so that one day, it becomes so natural that I will not fear failure anymore.
For there is no failure, only feedback.
Rigghhhhttt...For now, i'll still need to put in hardwork, which will be painful laaa. But necessary.
For if we think we can't, we must
And if we must, we can!

I want to make this my very own

On Risking

To laugh is to risk appearing the fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk exposing our true self.
To place your ideas, your dreams, before the crowd is to risk loss.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To live is to risk dying.
To hope is to risk despair.
To try at all is to risk failure.
But to risk, we must, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The Man, the Woman who risks nothing does nothing -- has nothing -- is nothing.

Apply Persistence to Your Possibilities

Your success is not a matter of idle chance,
it's a matter of making the right choices.
It's not something you wait for,
but rather something you'll achieve with effort.
Things won't turn up in this world until you turn them up.

Success is neither magical nor mysterious.
The people that truly succeed in the world
are the people who look for the circumstances they want,
and, if they can't find them, make them.
Don't sit on the sidelines, get in the game.
Your access to success has no real limits.

The great opportunity in your life is where you are right now.
Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity for you.
You have grand opportunities all around you.
Open your eyes, and you will find it.

If you have the desire, you have the power.
Taking action is all that is required.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." -- Mark Twain

House

Saturday morning

I've to hang the clothes this morning, bathe whiskey, sweep & mop the floor. The clean floor gives me the greatest satisfaction. Hate hanging the clothes most, cos it doesn't stop thr, have to keep them, fold them and iron them and put them back into the wardrobes before its done. That's 5 steps! The clothes usually don't get past the 3rd step.

Conversation a.k.a. quarrel with my sis over her room.
ME: Your Room is So Messy. Got shirt, underwear, shorts everywhere
HER: At Least I only mess up my own room & not the rest of the house

How can a house so big not have any maid?!?

Going to have a faith reunion later. My pastor and his wife is in town. Can't wait to meet friends!

Random photo-taking at NIE's Library. NTU has a new eating area with Bistro & Sakae Sushi. The best thing is, they don't have service charge. :D

Condo-Viewing

Showflats design

Went to view the many condominiums along Hillview on Labour day. Namely, Hillview regency, Hillview Residence, Grandale and Hillvista. We liked the kitchen design above & most probably will have one similar concept as that. Planning to knock down the wall of my current study to have a corridor running to the back of the house. Extending the floors of the back area as well. And building an extra room upstairs.

Parents' decision is for us to stay in a rented condomium for a year. hahaha At the rate we're progressing, we'll probably need to. =_=

Just love wisdom!! Love talking about how i feel about something. Being able to link the emotional aspects & logical aspects is so goodd.. ! anyway it was just something random that i felt like saying.

Since coming back, I've tried to study in NIE library. Not too fruitful. Tmr I'll go to the future office in an attempt to study. Its in Tanjong pgr, so its an hour's journey at least. =__="

Weekend: I had dinner at this Thai restuarant. It was at 6th avenue. We had alfresco-style dinner. Had chilli muscles, spring rolls, pad thai, kailan, mango salad, ice coffee & my mum ordered chendol. Mum was complaining the things were too sweet. Har..typical of mum. Then we drove around Garlick Ave while i wooooh & ahh over the big bungalows.

This morning had brunch with my family @ Bukit Timah market. Ordered zhui kui, fried carrot cake, fish balls, soyabean curd. Yummilicious & cheap. Then mum bought crayfish & pompfret which i just had for dinner. Sweet & fresh. Had to make some calls to the property agents cos we still haven't got a place to stay & renovations due to start next month!!! And so, i called & made an appointment to see the hazel park condominium. I like it!! The poolside was crowded with people & seems so lively & fun. Hahahaha But the rooms were too cramp tho'. What is bothering us right now is whether whisky can adapt to a different environment.

One Rupublic- Stop and Stare

Stop and Stare - OneRepublic
Sometimes life goes past by so fast that all of a sudden you stop and wonder where you are heading. It's the sudden realisation and awareness that you really don't know where it all leads to. Yet as much as you would like to move on, it almost seems like the mind is willing but the flesh is weak, and your entire being just freezes and gets rooted to the ground. What can you do besides stopping to stare into blankness?

This town is colder now, I think it's sick of us
It's time to make our move, I'm shakin off the rust
I've got my heart set on anywhere but here
I'm staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands, just take the wheel...
And every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal... for the life I lead

Stop and stareI think I'm moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be, ohStop and stare
You start to wonder why you're 'here' not there
And you'd give anything to get what's fair
But fair ain't what you really need
Oh, can u see what I see

They're tryin to come back, all my senses push
Un-tie the weight bags, I never thought I could...
Steady feet, don't fail me now
Gonna run till you can't walk
But something pulls my focus out
And I'm standing down...

Stop and stareI think I'm moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be, oh

Stop and stareYou start to wonder why you're here not there
And you'd give anything to get what's fair
But fair ain't what you really need
Oh, you don't need

What u need, what u need...

Stop and stareI think I'm moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I've become what I can't be
Oh, do u see what I see

Breakthrough Weekend 14th-16th

I was away for the Women's Breakthrough Weekend with Covenant EFC from 14th-16th.

The comfy ship to Harris resort, Batam

Direct View out of our Balcony

My bed is beside the fridge
In Particular, the closing challenge on the last day struck me most. Phil 2:13-14 says to forget what is behind & to press on towards the goal. What should I leave behind? What do i forget? It is a constant battle to shut the "babbler" up. The "babbler" is our so-called "lies" that the devil plant in our heads. The accusations that we battle can be our addictions, impure thoughts, personal possessions, personal opinions, the right to control or change others, health & physical concerns. Which are the significant points that u have problems surrending to God for? To battle against these accusations, we have to go back to his Word for the truth. To meditate on what is true, honourable, noble & pure will set us free.
In order to reach forward, we need to know what lies ahead. What is God's purpose/aim for me? Matt 4:19 says that God has called us with a purpose.
Since returning from Perth, many things had happened. I've been out of relationship, stopped attending church, finding a job had been draining, my physical health isn't that fantastic either. Had 2 major flu/fever and my neck & shouldaches tires me out easily. But throughout all these, God had been really merciful and gracious. I can testify his goodness because everytime when i'm down & out, he never fails to provide me with hope.

I want to say with all conviction that " I'm better today than yesterday"

Whisky: U have Arthritis!??

First noticed whisky limping a month ago. Did not know the reason why & so we brought him to the Joyous vet @ CCK today. Whisky was so smart, he jumped into the car without being told & throughout the trip he was panting so fast. Then we had to wait for 1 hr before he could see the vet. The vet was quite pretty & v. friendly. She put the muzzle on whisky & carried him onto this metallic table & examined his hind leg by bending his joint gently. She said it was Arthritis!!! Anyway, for a 10 yr old dog, Whisky still behaves like a teenager, he bites his fav. cloth & growls whenever anybody gets close; he runs to us with his tail wagging so hard whenever anyone comes home & jumps onto the wall & barks fiercely whenever he sees the postman. No wonder he was limping, his joint must be inflammed & the joints were rubbing against each other due to his active movements.

Whisky's eye opening wide, looking terrified!

Arthritis is one of the most common sources of chronic pain that vets treat. Treating dog arthritis is similar to that of human osteoarthritis. Inflammation of the tendons connecting muscle to bone is quite common in dog arthritis, as the ligaments have lost their elasticity.

And so the vet recommended supplements & a change of diet for whisky. He has to take the beef-flavoured glucosamine daily. Glucosamine for dogs can help repair and renew the cartilage by providing the matrix that joint cartilage uses to rebuild and regenerate. Whisky lovesss the vitamin & he jumped up wanting moree hahaa. The vet also said he has to change his nutrition diet by reducing his carbo & protein intake & start eating Veggies!!! Don't think whisky will like that very much as he's always been a meet & dairy lover. Hopes He will get back his mobility.

I have Arthritis?!?

Perth Memories

My hostel mates have returned back to Perth. I'm one of the four from our gang in Singapore. This 2 days, apart from sleeping, my thoughts automatically wanders what I wld be doing if i were still in Perth. I miss the good times so muchhhh, especially the social life i enjoyed. (Not the attending boring classes & copying tutorial parts tho'). But that's all past now. Although I do wish that part of that life can repeat itself. . .still, in Life there is a time for everything.

The following shall be remembered fondly (in no particular order) :
Having my own room, no matter how noisy the external environment was I had my PRIVACY which i do not have at Home

Meal times scheduled at 12pm, 5.30pm; whereby the whole A300's gang have meals together, just like a big family.

The morning dilemma of whether to wake up for 9am lectures or not; sometimes jumping out of bed just 5 mins before a class & speeding on my bike with eyes half-closed & reaching lectures just 5 mins late!!

Staying up late into the night, most of the time dilly-dallying, not doing my tutorials & finally panicking like mad & ended up copying tutorial answers

Jogging along Matilda Bay,with Simin, just enjoying the scenery and taking our own sweettime. A 30 mins journey becoming a 2 hour walk.

Making Packed breakfasts/lunches during dinnertime and sometimes having the whole gang waiting outside. More commonly seen during study break.

Receiving random calls/visits from the Bear, the Bird & & Guai sun. The good laughs we had scaring each other, disturbing, calling each other names & complaining about schoolwork. Frequency increasing during study break!

Not forgetting the late night supper gatherings in the A300s pantry. Hilarious how everybody ends up chit-chatting till late i.e. 1am. Before people started buying car, the most popular food were Indomee with fishballs

Having fellowship with the Faithers every friday during Youth group. Especially time when metani & elaine were around.. with then around, i felt really cared for. I also remember us often Folding bulletins & ushering during Sunday morning service.

The crazy late nights burnt before exams in order to complete revision. Spending up to 12 hours in the libraries & labs each day; with ashley sleeping overnight at the maths lab & cycling back for breakfast in the cold aussie breeze.

Passing my driving & obtaining the license on 29th November. Thank God Tony was such a patient instructor. Not forgetting SM having to fill up my log book for me which she spent a couple of hours & nodded off immediately later on.

Waving the annoying houseflies during summertime. These annoying creatures have the innate ability to irritate humans by flying close to their mouth.

Picnics up in King's park, Perth royal show, Road trips down south & Up North with the gang and the exclusive down south trip later on. . .

Too much to say. . Thank you for the memories. :)

In the middle of the night

I spent so much time thinkin' of the perfect blog address, title & display name. Its all done now!! I feel so satisfied & accomplished. ^-^ I will, and I say it again, I will update this blog. I feel so sleepy now all of a sudden, i think its time for me to zonked out now so that i can be fresh for tomorrow, oops i mean today. Agenda for today is to revise for my HI & M9 exams. Being such a procrastinator, it is not easy for me to say the words "I CAN DO IT" confidantly, but for the sake of myself, I must be more discipline. I know I can. gambatte Jodie san !
