So for the first time in my life, I decided to take up dancing on stage. It wasn't easy - at least not for me. It took ages to have all those moves remembered and even longer ages to connect all those moves together. Btw, ages was really only about 2 and a half weeks, minus the weekends.
So considering what little time we had to practise, I'd say we did awesome. =)
All those hours spent practising in the lower foyer, the gym (where the mirrors are) and in front of the student services department (where we once even scolded by Pn. Rog for practising before office hours end) did not go down the drain after all. Hehe.
Right after classes ended today, we rushed to the Great Hall for our final rehearsal. Then, we went to June's chalet for make-up.
I swear I experienced shock horror when June was done with my eyes! Haha!
Forget kung fu. The eyes were so fiery, I could have scared off my assailants with my make-up. Haha.
I collapsed in front of her mirror, I did. But I think we looked fine on stage so... okay la. :P
We did more make-up when we reached the Great Hall. We basically hogged the whole ladies' room backstage. Hehe. Since we were the last act, we didn't have to rush.
See I couldn't help because *ahem* we all know how great I am with make-up *ahem!* =P
So I documented their make-up session. Haha.
This is June, the leader and choreographer of our Kung Fu Fan Dance. See, I couldn't help her so she had to draw her eyes herself. Haha. I have terrible fear of people drawing my eyes. When she put on mascara for me, I literally cried.
June: Look up!
Me: *hesitatingly looks up.... sees the pointed end and looks down again*
June: Nonono. Look at me.
Me: *looks at her*
Ariel: *sprays hairspray on Yin Ying's hair, straight into my eyes*
-___-!! Lol.
And this was us with our make-up all done. =)
They all looked like they were wearing a hat. And Yin Ying's bun was senget. Lucky I chopped off my hair. Hehehehe!
No wait! We weren't done with our make-up yet. There was lipstick!
And oh - can peng - the lipstick was SO red.
First time in my 17 years of life, I put so much make-up on my face.
The guys had to suffer too. Buahaha! They had lipstick and mascara as well.
This is Zi-Hao. He was the guy who skipped around happily after putting on make-up, proclaiming, "I'm pretty! I'm so pretty!"
iSweat.
But of course our dance wasn't the only dance of the night. There was another dance called the Lively Dance which had chairs.
Some of my batchmates took part in it too. It's so cute.
I don't have pictures of it on the real day, but I have pictures of one of their practices. =)
There was another graceful dance but I haven't got any pictures of that.
Besides that, there was also a performance on the Gu Zheng by one of my seniors. It was awesome. I think this was the first time I saw the gu zheng up close.
There was also the fashion show and several lion dances.
I thought I heard somebody telling me one of our physics teachers played the lion's head. I wonder if that is true. Hmmm... If it is, that'll be kind of cool. Haha.
Basically that was how the night went.
Even though my dance did go wrong a little.
Because of me and a curtain. =(
I actually got tangled up in one of the curtains behind while we moved backwards. The consequences of being the last one. Haha.... -.-"
And it was recorded on tape. -___-! For the whole dance they didn't focus on me. Then when I fought with the curtain, the camera focused on me.
Talk about bad timing la....!
But the colliding with the curtain was at the end, so... overall, it still wasn't too bad. We did get positive comments throughout so it was very encouraging. =)
I don't think anyone took a video of the stage from far. It would have looked far nicer if the camera zoom on everyone on stage, then you could have seen the formation. But since they didn't, I'll just post a video of June demostrating the dance moves to us. We got desperate so we recorded her to practise in the chalet whenever we were free.
The video's right at the bottom. =)
The night was really fan-tastic. Pun intended.
And it ended in a very special way.
With the crew playing a prank on one of my seniors simply because it was the eve of her birthday. A rather mean prank la, but it is sort of a tradition here in KY.
Here in KY, birthday bashes are traditions. Seniors have got tied to poles and had dirty water and leftover dinner showered on their head. They have had their faces drawn with markers and been instructed to call up a girl and confess their love. A friend of mine got it the other day on his birthday. He was lucky his birthday sort of clashed with another senior's birthday, so he didn't get the rope treatment. He only got the egg. Haha.
So.... I don't get to advertise my birthday here, less I want myself be bashed. Dang. I guess I'll just haunt the usual people from Kuching. Haha!
So what they did was they announced that she didn't put in her best efforts to make the event work because some things went wrong. They kinda sent her storming out of the hall before we started singing Happy Birthday. When she didn't turn back, everyone in hall basically walked and chased after her. Like in tv shows. Haha.
Of course she was fine in the end. They prepared for her yee sang. So nice. Haha.
We got scolded earlier in the evening because we took our dinner first. The teacher said as we were the host, we should keep it for the guests, i.e. the students, and have our dinner after everything's finished. We were famished by the time it ended and since reception was pretty good, there was no food left. So we went off to the cafe for some drinks.

I have no idea how to rotate a video, so if you can twist your head, you can watch the dance. And learn. Hahaha. Enjoy.
Btw, the red shirt I was wearing is probably the only new shirt I'll have for this new year. It costs 10 bucks. Lol!
