A Rejuvenated Spirit!

We traded in our depths of snow and winter inversion for a long weekend in Arizona to celebrate our 28th Anniversary and my Dad's 79th birthday. (We got married on his birthday.)
We put our feet up and soaked in the sun.

We enjoyed beautiful happy hour sunsets which were followed by evenings
filled with good food and conversations.

My husband and I even found ourselves laughing as we found ourselves tinkered around the town we both grew up in, acting like the tourists we always complained about! LOL! (Yes! I'm wearing shorts. The temperatures ranged from 67-70 degrees in the afternoons. Rejuvenating!)
This is us in front of the world famous "London Bridge". It was moved to Lake Havasu in 1970. My parents are considered pioneers as they moved there from Michigan with their four children in 1969. My husband and I both grew up here. We  raised our own two daughters here for 18 years before moving to Oregon. Thus, our visits are always filled with  nostalgia.
My mom and I always enjoy our time together. She shared her new knitting projects. We toured the new quilt store and even found some fun eye-spy fabrics: strawberries, books, bears and hearts oh my! We go to coffee, get pedicures. (Pretty toes after a winter of wooly socks is wonderful!)

I did a little hand-stitching...but not much. It was truly rejuvenating to get away from my daily routines and hobbies. I relaxed, went for walks, and well, literally enjoyed time with family.
Thanks for a fantastic visit mom and dad.
Wondering... how do you rejuvinate when life gets a little too routine??

The Hexi's are baaackkkk...

I've been busy stitching these together in-between my other projects as I have the perfect,
redecorated bedroom just waiting for this quilt.
I seriously can't believe I made these THREE years ago!
I guess I just needed the "right" motivation to finally get them sewn together...of which, they are surprisingly going together rather quickly, which makes it even more enjoyable.
Happy Sunday Stitching everyone.

My Hexi Snap Bag

I'm packing for a school conference that will include a few hours of drive and fly time tomorrow. I dug out my ol' hexi snap bag and just had to rejuvinate an old post of mine own to add to this week's Tuesday Archives "Bag" theme. My original post is right here.

I'm missing my sewing room and can't wait to get back in there this weekend.
Atleast there's a good side of having WIP all over the house:

Hexi/Gnome Quilt Finish

Nothing says summer better than a fun picnic quilt!  Especially one made of big hexis', fun polka-dots mixed together with some little gnome men and cute cruiser bikes!

Measuring finished at 35"x49", it's small enough to roll up into a bike basket and take a cruise to the nearest park or beach. (Not that I even live near a beach...but it sounds fun doesn't it!?).

I was delighted to have had a bike pantograph and used black thread on the front and back.

Jackson was busy playing with "cousin" Taylor...but of course, kept a close eye on my picture taking!
Hope your weekend has some outdoor fun in store for you as well.

Hexi/Gnome Flimsy

Off the design wall and made into a flimsy in only a few hours!

This will make a perfect summer quilt measuring in at 35"x49". I think whether it's to play a game of checkers or just sit and read a book outside, it's going to be enjoyed a ton.
I can't wait for the bike fabric to arrive for the backing and get this one quilted!
Thanks for stopping by...more tomorrow.

H2H Finale: Rainbow Hexagons

It's hard to believe it was almost two years ago that I emptied my buckets of scrappy strips...

...and made this rainbow of hexagons:

It's fun to see them finally put together into a quilt!
(I like the solid centers much better too.)

This quilt has been so much fun to create and it makes my heart smile knowing it's soon to be on it's way to be part of  Sarah's H2H Charity Challenge.
Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

I think this quilt will make the perfect Happy Chemo hug with it's soft red flannel backing and        cute polka-dot binding don't ya think?!

It's also the perfect lap size quilt finishing at 40"x60". (At least that's what I thought while I got to use it while binding it this week.) And I have to say, this Daisy May Pantograph is quickly becoming one of my favorite patterns to quilt.

Are ya wondering where my photo bombing Jackson is? I was too actually, until I spied him nearby, but I geuss too busy with all the Spring activities in the yard today to interrupt me.
(I mean be part of the photo shoot! LOL!!)
So it's time to get this one in the wash then packed up to send to a Happy Chemo recipient.
It's a soft rainy day here and with still 13 1/2 days of school left, I geuss I better get myself ready for work.(Can ya tell I'd rather stay home and sew. LOL!) Hope your Friday is great!

May for Me: Hexagon Quilt

No this is not my morning stack of pancakes...but 70 flowers made from two inch EPP hexagons that have been waiting to be put together into a quilt for about, um, two years.
Our youngest daughter and I feel in love with this Joel Dewberry Heirloom Fabric Line from Free Spirit. She is making her own set but with a different colored center. Hers continues to be a WIP but here's what mine looked like on the design wall two years ago:

They have since been moved from wall to basket...forgotten, like so many of our WIP find themselves doing.  So having no hand-sewing project I'm working on and motivated my Marcia's May for Me linky at Crafty Sewing & Quilting, I couldn't think of a better way to sneak in some quiet time for myself than by joining her annual linky. The theme is all about celebrating those few minutes a day you take just for you. My goal is to have these all sewn into rows and ready to baste onto their background fabric by the end of the month.
(Click picture to find out more about Marcia's annual celebration
and perhaps even join us!)

H2H Rainbow Hexi's

After playing with these on the design wall , then most recently crawling around on the floor moving them around like they were a puzzle, this is what I decided for my rainbow hexi's:
I was beginning to worry this quilt may be too small, but I actually think this will be a perfect lap size quilt for a Happy Chemo recipient. Ya know, not too big to carry to appointments, but large enough to cover their legs while sitting during treatments. I'm also thinking of some FMQ fun I'm going to have once I start quilting it! (Think butterflies in a varigated rainbow thread!!) As for me, I can not resist the beautiful spring afternoon we are having so I'm off to get Jackson leashed up and headed out for a long walk. After which, I'll start sewing these rows together. Hope your weekend has been nice and you got in some sewing too!

Another Hexi Flower

Keeping myself busy this summer sewing hexagon flowers as I keep our daughter company during her physical therapy appointments. (She's recovering from a broken foot.) Here's this week's flower:
My Tammy Bag is perfect for carrying my hexagons with me. My scissors, paper templates, and fabric pieces all have their very own pocket and I can easily throw my phone and keys inside. I just grab and go.
Do you have a "travel" project you can just grab and go? Yah know that one hand project that keeps ya busy while you wait, watch and/or travel. If you're anything like me and it's just too hard to sit and wait, I'm curious what your "grab and go"  hand project might be. Is it knitting? embroidery? stitching?...please feel welcome to comment and share.
With Smiles,
Val:)

One Flower Wednesday

Youngest daughter home for the summer with a broken foot...so I busy  myself sewing my hexi's as I spend time in various doctor's waiting rooms.  These summer flowers are sure to add a humorous tone to my hexagon memory quilt for sure!
Also, it's not too late to rejuvinate some of your OLD English Paper Piecing posts at this week's Tuesday Archives Linky. Annndddd....are you a penny pincher? I am! If you are too, there's still time to join a bunch of us as we clean out our piggy banks and take on the challenge to save our change for a quilty purchase come July 6th next year. This annual challenge of mine closes Sunday, July 13th. Check out the linky here and thanks to all who have joined so far! I sure hope you are next.

I got my Hexi back!

We were off on a quick road trip yesterday to move our youngest daughter home from college and I was able to get an entire hexi flower sewn. Felt soooo good to be hand sewing again. This will be part of my Hexagon Memory Quilt.
I plan to pre-cut a few more flowers to have on hand for some more relaxing summer sewing. Off to link up with other slow stitchers at Kathy's Sunday Linky.
With smiles!

Itty Bitty Hexagons: Updated!

I didn't know Hexagons came this small (these are 3/8") until I starting prepping my monthly Sue Spargo block of the month today! (I love how she's having us incorporate fabric accents with wool.)
I've never used a UHU glue stick, and well, let's just say it's been the perfect addition to my Hexi sewing kit! I highly recommend it. A little dab really helps keep these itty bitty guys from moving around while I needle turn the edges.
The flower turned out soooo cute, don't ya think!
 With smiles,
Val:)
