We are so thankful and excited to announce the little one the Lord is blessing us with!

For six and a half years, I've blogged here at Song of my Life. However, with our exciting news comes the migration of my personal blog to our family blog, The Takala Family. As wonderful as this little spot on the web has been for me, it's time to make a change and begin blogging for our family. And to be honest, I'll probably be better about blogging over there!

Thanks so much for being a friend and reader of my blog over the years, and please keep us in your prayers!

Once again, it's been forever since I've posted. Let's just move on...

The past couple months have been great, and as usual, very busy. So busy, in fact, that I can't remember everything we've done. But some of those things I can remember, so I'll share those. After coming back from our Savannah trip, we had a few low-key weeks where we were able to relax a little bit. Mostly we spent November finishing up our classes and getting ready for the holidays. I finished my eighth graduate class, which means I'm two-thirds of the way through. I'm planning to take two classes in the Spring and two classes in the Summer (along with my Capstone experience) to graduate in August. I am SO READY! This degree has by no means been difficult, but I'm just ready to not have school hanging over my head. I'm sure that once grad school is done, I'll find something else to take up my time, though. Such is life.

We had a great week off together at Thanksgiving. We relaxed, decorated for Christmas, enjoyed time with family, and kicked off the holiday season together. I'm glad that Lucas gets enough vacation time that he is able to take off at the same times I'm off. It's nice to get to spend some uninterrupted time together.

December was another wonderful month. There were quite a few eventful things that happened and some that would've been better if they hadn't happened, but that's what makes life interesting! At the beginning of the month we hosted a Christmas party for our church small group, which was lots of fun. That kicked off our long run of holiday gatherings and weight gain. It's kind of unavoidable this time of year, though, so we just embrace it and start over in January. I was able to re-lose all of the Savannah weight and get back to a total weight loss amount of 45 lbs. We've been in a holding pattern since then. More news on that to come.

Around mid-December, Lucas had to fly to Atlanta for a long weekend of work, which was really annoying. It did, however, give me several days to spend with my parents, which was nice. While he was gone, our sweet pup Maggie decided to open up a bottle of vitamins and eat anywhere from 10-20 of them. Since I wasn't sure exactly how many, I had to rush her to the ER for bad animals where she got to do lots of throwing up. I asked her if it was worth it, and although she didn't answer, I got the feeling that she'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Our last week of school before Christmas break was alot of fun. I got tons of gifts this year from my coworkers, which was really exciting because last year, I got basically nothing. Even though gifts aren't really a big deal, it's just nice to know that they've finally accepted me as a part of them, and maybe a few of them even like me. :)

Christmas break has been absolutely fabulous. We had such a fun time celebrating Christmas with my family and Lucas's family who came to visit us from Ohio. Lucas surprised me with an iPad for Christmas, which I totally wasn't expecting! My brother and sis-in-law are coming into town tonight and we'll get to celebrate our final Christmas tomorrow. Sunday is a re-launch of sorts for our church campus, where we'll be starting an instrumental service as the main service in the sanctuary. For the last several years, the instrumental service has been held in the gym, but now we're finally going to be acknowledged as a real service! ;-)

We'll be headed back to work on Monday. Boo hiss. But, I am so thankful to have a job and to have one that I like, at that. I have it on good authority that 2011 is going to be the best year yet for our family. I can't wait to receive all of the blessings to come in this new year!

Our time in Savannah was absolutely fabulous, which you can see from all of the pictures at the end of this post. We left early on the morning of October 30 and made it to Savannah by lunch time. Of course, we headed straight to Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons. There was no way we could get in that day for a table because you have to make reservations early the morning of. We were, however, able to get a seat in the bar, which was fine with us! The food was definitely good. We'd heard mixed reviews, but were pleased overall.

After that, we took a trolley tour of Savannah where we got to familiarize ourselves with the city and learn all kinds of cool stuff. There is so much history there, including (but not limited to) founding fathers and pirates! After the tour, we were able to check into our hotel, which was in the perfect location. We had a view of the River and were within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. After we checked in, we rested a little while and then headed out for dinner and a stroll down on River Street. While on River Street, it has been said that we might have spent $30 at the candy store, but until someone other than us can prove it, it's purely speculation. We came back to our hotel around 7:30 just in time to catch the Rangers win their one and only World Series game and to see fireworks over the river from our window. It was the perfect ending to my birthday!

On Sunday we slept until 9:30, which was basically heaven. We took our time getting up and finally headed out just a bit before lunch. We walked part of Broughton Street and headed down to City Market where we had lunch at Vinnie VanGoGo's, which had delicious pizza. I totally recommend it! After an afternoon of more shopping (and more candy, from a different store,) and ice cream at Leopold's, we took some more time to rest at our hotel and then headed our for our Haunted Savannah trolley tour. That, unfortunately, was not great. We heard a few stories of ghosts and such, but considering Savannah is the most haunted city in America, we were expecting more! After the tour, we walked down the street to Cilantro's, Georgia's version of Tex-Mex. They did a pretty good job, I must say, but not nearly as good as the real thing.

The next morning we got up and headed out for Tybee Island, which is just off the coast of Savannah. On our way out there, we passed Uncle Bubba's Oyster House, which is another of Paula's restaurants. We didn't get to eat there, but after our yuck-o lunch on Tybee, we wished we'd driven back to the mainland for Uncle Bubba's! Tybee itself was a nice little island and we were able to spend a little bit of time on the beach (where people were still laying out in bikinis on November 1) and have lunch overlooking the ocean. As mentioned, the food was awful (except for the hush puppies,) but the view was great. We also found Paula's beach house that she rents out to people. It was really cute, and if there had been more people there than just the two of us, we totally would have stayed there for at least one night. After Tybee, we went to Forsyth Park, walked around some more, headed to Paula's store to do some Christmas shopping, and rested. That evening, we spent some more time on River Street and then went to dinner at The Pirate's House, which is a place built in the 1700s and was originally a boarding house and tavern for sailors and, you guessed it, pirates. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have been inspired by The Pirate's House and part of it takes place there. After dinner, we headed back to Leopold's for some more ice cream, where we saw James Cromwell, also knows as Farmer Hoggett from Babe. Lucas would tell you he's from Star Trek or I, Robot, but I don't care so much about those movies. It was pretty awesome.

The next day was our last one there and we spent some more time walking around and taking in all of the beautiful architecture. We also did a little more shopping and found a yummy cupcake place. It's good we didn't discover it earlier, because I would've gained more than 5 lbs if we had! After lunch, more Paula shopping, and spending some more time down on River Street, it was time to head to the airport. On the way, we drove over to South Carolina, just so I could add one more state to my list. :) Savannah is right on the border of GA and SC. Little did we know, the best part of our vacation was yet to come! After we got to the airport, our flight was delayed so we headed to a little restaurant to get something for dinner. While we were sitting there, Bobby Deen walked by! For most of you, that means nothing, but for Food Network fans and especially Paula Deen fans, you KNOW who Bobby is! Paula, Bobby, and Jamie are three of my absolute favorites. Since the airport was mostly empty, I decided I was not going to let this moment pass, and I walked right up to Bobby and told him I love him. Unfortunately, I'm not kidding. We talked for a few minutes and Lucas took my picture with him. It was awesome. He told us that his brother Jamie would be coming in a few, so we should keep a look out for him. Well, you can bet we did, and I accosted Jamie on his way out of security. These guys were SO nice. They were exactly how they are on TV. I got a picture with him, too, and I was just in Heaven. Our trip was complete. The only thing that could've been better was meeting Paula herself.

We absolutely recommend this trip for anyone interested in food, shopping, history, relaxation, romance, and breathing. I promise, you will LOVE it!

Happy 29th Birthday to ME!

Last week, I wore a dress I hadn't worn in about five years. Today, I wore a pair of pants I haven't worn in just as long. It's fun and guilt-free when you get to go shopping in your own closet! Glad I didn't pitch them when they didn't fit anymore!

It's October and my most favorite month of the year! I wish it could be October for at least three months instead of just one. This past week, I've been reading The Hallo-Wiener and The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything to my kids. Also, I learned how to say weiner dog in Spanish. It's perro salchicha, just in case you were wondering.

I have a tough time keeping my pocketbook in check from October 1 through December 24. There's just so much fun decorating stuff and then gifts to buy at this time of year. Throw my birthday in there and it's the perfect storm. A couple years ago when we first bought our house, I bought a good base of fall and winter decorations. Each year, I try to add a few more things. This year I took apart an old piece of fall decor and added a few pieces to re-purpose it into a wreath. Here it is!

Happy Fall!

So last weekend, Karen, Britney, and I hosted a baby shower for our friend Sarah who is having a sweet baby girl, Carrigan. We chose a storybook theme and centered the invitations, food, and favors around children's books. In lieu of a guestbook, we used the book Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss and had guests write notes to baby Carrigan on the end pages. We featured food from books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Olivia, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type, Chester's Way, The Hallo-Wiener, Goodnight Moon, Frog and Toad Together, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and Peter Rabbit and had signs by each platter to explain how the food related to the book. We also sent each guest home with one of the books we featured.

Everyone had a great time and Sarah loved it. It was the perfect baby shower! So glad I could get to be a part of blessing this sweet girl and her soon to be here baby girl! Here are some of the pictures. You can click on each one to see it larger.

I can't believe I haven't posted since school started. Then again, I totally can. It's been busy, man! BUSY! But here I am, checking in...with myself, really. Because who else still reads this?

First order of business, we're at 41 lbs! My goal was 50 by my birthday (October 30,) but we shall see if I make it all the way there. Whether I make it or not, I'm doing great and I'm proud of myself! Lucas is down about 16 lbs, too. Way to go Team T!

So much has been going on since school started. I won't talk so much about that, except to say it's going pretty well and that my Spanish is rapidly improving. Kind of, anyway. If you're wondering about the proper care and handling of books, I can tell you ALL about it en Español. I actually did have one bilingual teacher tell me that my Spanish has gotten alot better, so that's a happy thing. I'll be fluent before you know it! Wouldn't that be nice? My library is SUPER cute this year, so I will definitely be posting pictures of that soon and very soon.

I had the incredible opportunity to lead worship two weeks ago in our Sunday morning service. To some of you, that may not seem like a big deal, but to most of you, it's kind of shocking, right? I know I never thought that this girl (girl being the key word) would be leading anything in a church service! However, I am blessed to be at a church (quasi-Church of Christ, no less) that not only encourages instrumental worship, but also encourages and nurtures females to be in an active role somewhere other than children's ministry. While I'm nowhere close to becoming a full-time or even part-time worship leader, it was a wonderful experience and one that I hope to have the blessing of doing again and again.

The weekend before that, Lucas and I flew up to Ohio to visit his parents. We had a great visit and a wonderful, relaxing time. We visited the Columbus Zoo, went to Cheesecake Factory, celebrated his dad's 60th birthday, spent lots of time on the sun porch, listened to his dad preach, ate too much ice cream, and introduced his cousins to Cantina Laredo. The weather was in the 70s the whole time we were there. Just perfect!

Also in the last couple weeks, Lucas and I decided to take a mini-vaca for my 29th birthday! We will be going to Savannah, Georgia to look for my favorite Food Network personality, Paula Deen! Okay, so that's not all we're going for, but it sure would be nice to see her. You can bet your cheese grits we'll be visiting The Lady and Sons! We'll be there over Halloween, so I'm hoping to take a haunted carriage ride. So much fun!

Last weekend, I had the privilege to throw a baby shower for one of my favorite people. I'll be posting some pictures (which many of you have probably already seen on Facebook) tomorrow. It was a super fun and SUPER cute shower! Hasta manana!
