A series of fortunate events

The girls have been taking turns getting sick this last month. We've had colds, the stomach flu, and then Corinne was hit with an ear infection last night. I laid beside her into the wee hours of the morning, thinking about what a horrible day today was bound to be. I literally had about 4 hours of sleep collectively from the previous two nights. I had to get up and go to work, and the world was looking like a pretty bleak place from my sleep deprived perspective. I haven't been very graceful at juggling work and home life the past few weeks, and it felt as if all of the balls I have been struggling to keep in the air were about to hit the ground.

But somehow, and I still don't fully understand it, today was not the piece of absolute dog crap that I predicted it would be. It was actually the opposite.

Wes went to work a little later without any consequence and was able to take Corinne to Urgent Care right when it opened. Then my dad was able to come over and watch Corinne, which was fine with her as her birthday's approaching and she told me she needed to help Grandpa make a list of what to buy her. My neighbor took Taylor to school, and I was able to get to work with time to spare.

Luckily the morning flew by, and I spent my lunch hour chatting with a good friend. Before I knew it, that blessed bell rang. The kids had a little treat in the mail from their Aunt Debbie when I got home, and it was such a sweet gesture that it sort of stopped me in my tracks and made me realize that I have a pretty nice village around me.

Even though I was feeling uplifted, I still didn't want to make dinner. I never do. Not even on a good day. Becky, my extremely intuitive friend (really, it's crazy how she knows things), came over with a full blown dinner. Salad. Tri-tip. Ice Cream. Diet Coke. And a card for Corinne. She's wonderful. I get a little weepy just thinking about it. I told her later that she's exactly the type of friend I hope Corinne and Taylor make when they're older. She's just a beautiful person. She is constantly doing things to brighten someone else's day, and is so very genuine about it. No idea why she wants to be my friend, but I think I'll just play along and hope that she doesn't catch on to the fact that she's too good for me. But she really made my day. Taylor is hacking up a lung in the other room and Corinne is taking up 3/4 of my bed, but because of her and the rest of the village- it's not so bad. We'll get through it. I'm glad I was able to count my blessings today. Hopefully I'll remember to do it more often.

This is Halloween

This isn't much of a post. But I can't believe October is over. I can't believe Halloween is over. I may leave the decorations up for another day. Partly because I'm exhausted and don't have it in me to take it all down, and because I'm always a little sad when it's over. Not like Christmas, where the day after is really the best day of the year in my opinion.

Taylor was a Zombie Prom Queen this year, because she declared at the costume store she didn't want anything cute but wanted something gothic. Gothic? I had no idea she even knew what that meant. But her costume was adorable and she had fun with it. I took a tip from Fran and You Tubed some makeup tutorials to add to her...deadness. It worked.

Corinne was a Darling Witch. Emphasis on the darling. I got a glimpse at what she'll look like in 10 years when I put her makeup on. Yikes. She loved going to school in costume and was so happy to get a "BOO GRAM" from Taylor, and her friend Larkin.

I missed the school costume parade. Not ganna lie. I was a bitch all day at work because of it. I'm bitter when I have to miss out on things like that. My neighbor, Patty, was nice enough to send me pictures and texts, but it wasn't the same. But Halloween night was fun. We spent it in our old neighborhood at the Evans' block party. It was wonderful. I forgot how much I love that neck of the woods. They're just good people and I always feel lucky they even give me the time of day. We tried to come back to our street to trick or treat at 7:30, but the kids totally crashed in the car and that was that. The night was over and so was Halloween. It hasn't rained in so long, and the light shower through the night really felt like the ushering in of Fall and the holiday season.

She finally got a chance at offence and made her first goal! So exciting!

Cheering for herself on her 7th goal. Trash talking, competitive kid.
