Hawai'i

We are enjoying our time in Hawai'i so far!
We arrived Tuesday morning and picked up our rental car. A 2010 Mustang convertible. I love it! Driving with the top down makes me very happy! We hung out in Waikiki all day Thursday and didn't do too much because we were tired from the flight.
On Wednesday we once again played in the ocean at Waikiki and quickly learned I need a boogie board :) We walked out about 1200 feet and stood and watched the surfers ride in. They are so graceful. We also drove out to Waimanalo to eat at Ono Hawaiian Steak, the best roadside food on Oahu.
On Thursday we spent all day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We had a great time. My mind played an April Fool's Day joke on me and caused me to leave my camera at the hotel so I have no pictures from the day :( We had a tour guide and took a canoe ride through the center. The dinner at the luau was great. We both ate SO much!! The night show, HA Breath of Life was amazing. At one point they has 12 guys twirling fire sticks (not sure what they are really called, but you get the point right?). We were in the 2nd row at center stage and could feel the heat from the fire. And, I didn't have a panic attack so it was a WIN all around.
Today we spent the afternoon at the beach and even though we applied lots of sunscreen (yes, I put on sunscreen, even though I HATE!!!! it) we are both a little pink tonight.
The room we have at the hotel is nice. We are staying at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. We stayed here last year too. The rooms are about as nice as a Best Western, but we are one block from the beach and paid less than $100 a night. The bed is comfy and the staff is nice. We have a pool view room with a double balcony so we open our glass door at night and can hear the live band play and the ocean coming in.

Happy Birthday!!

Adam and Thelma (stolen from Thelma's blog)

Could 2 people be more in sync than Adam and Thelma? Their mom's went to college together (same major and everything), their dad's share the same birthday, Adam and Thelma even share the same birthday, anniversary and children!!

Adam has always been the leader in the family. He came into the world first and showed us all how perfect a child could be (which may be why we all seem like delinquents when compared to him). Who could ask for a better older brother? He is smart, funny, ate "gum" off the grass in home videos, has a great family and gives the best wedding toasts ever (and I would know!). Adam also picked a great spouse.

I remember the first time I heard about Thelma. Adam mentioned he was writing her when he was on his mission. It was on a tape he sent home and I thought he was talking about Velma, a nice, elderly lady we went to church with. I am happy to report the real Thelma is also nice, but not elderly. :)

The first time (that I remember) Adam and Thelma coming to visit our family was before they were married. We went to Seattle and someone stole dad's scriptures from the van. I am sure everyone knew they would get married... I was like 13 and had no clue. A few months later I got my first, and favorite, sister in law.

It is impossible for me to think of Adam without Thelma and vice versa. I have lots of good memories of the two of them:
Forgetting clothes at their wedding
Camping in Oregon while she was preggo with Braeden
Them making me an aunt
Homeless man calling Braeden a "blueberry"
My stay with them in CT
Thelma's morning sickness
Newsies (still one of my favorite movies)
Road trips all over New England
Getting stuck in an elevator in Manhattan
San Fransisco and Tahoe
Yummy family dinner's at their house
Trips to Cascade Park
Christmas Carols at the piano

I am lucky to have 2 great people in my life and wish them the happiest of birthdays!!

Kain

Happy Birthday Kain!!

Kain and his awesome crown

I can't believe Kain is 13 today!! I remember something about all of my nieces and nephews and the day they were born (except Shawn because he was 2 1/2 when I met him). Kain was a special treat for me. He was my 2nd nephew and the 1st one that I was at the hospital when he was born.

Kain with his cousins at my wedding

I remember Danielle having to go to the hospital a lot before Kain was born... I think he liked to trick her into thinking she was in labor, but wasn't really. Brian was so excited to meet his son. Danielle was in the hospital in Everett and we knew he was finally coming! I was in the room and she was holding my hand as a labor pain hit her. I am not sure how painful it was for her, but for me OUCH!! Mama had a grip on me! The nurse kindly taught me to only give the mom 2 fingers, less hand to damage.

Opening a Christmas present '09

Danielle couldn't eat while she was in labor and I remember Brian going to Jack In The Box (I think). He came back as Kain was ready to come out. Megan and I were kicked out of the room. We still wanted to be close so we sat on the floor outside the room and listened with our ears to the door. The nurses kept coming in and out and giving us dirty looks... but there was NO way we were missing the drama inside!! Danielle was YELLING!!! (I though women only did the in movies). I remember some of what she said but I will keep that too myself.

At Mukilteo Beach for a summer BBQ

I can also remember Brian saying something along th elines of "Kain do you want a french fry? Come out and get it!" I laughed so hard. Soon we heard the first cry of baby Kain. He was so cute!!! I loved him from that moment.

Walking my mom down the aisle at the wedding rehearsal

Kain was so much fun to have around as a baby (and is still fun). He would bounce and bounce on his knees, he would analyse things and he drooled everywhere. I would take him to church with me sometimes and all the girls loved him and wanted to hold him (and he would drool all over the ones I didn't like).

Middle School Football in Marysville

The first 3 1/2 years Kain and I spent a lot of time together. I even spent my Senior Skip day with him and Talia in Seattle. He was so fun to be with. After that, I move to ID and UT and Kain moved to FL. I always made sure to fly home in the summer to see him before he went back to FL for school. After I moved back to WA Kain and his family did too.

Middle School football in Stanwood

I love seeing Kain so much. He has grown into such a great man. He is good with kids, a great athlete and is so funny. My dogs adore him and he even gave Maddy her middle name, Skywalker (even if he says dogs like him cause he's black). Is only main flaw is that he is a HUSKY fan (BOOO!!) I am working on that.

See how good he is with kids? MASHOONGA!! in Leavenworth for Memorial Day

So Happy Birthday to my favorite black nephew! You will always be my Almond Joy.

Me and Kain at Mukilteo Beach for Megan and Danielle's birthdays.

Date Night

Last Saturday I got a call from my cousin Tinsel. She wanted to know if we wanted to join her and her husband Shane (who is my actual cousin) at the Silvertips game. Since I love hockey and Kelly doesn't mind it we decided to go. We invited Megan to come too. She didn't want to stay behind so she decided to come. She didn't want to feel like a 5th wheel so she found a "date". She invited Kathleen to come with us. The game was great. We won 5-0. Hockey is always better when your team wins.

After the game we hung out at Mondo's.

Another beautiful sunset

Tonight was another beautiful sunset. Took my breath away. So of course I grabbed my camera. Enjoy

Twilight

I love Twilight. I love the color the sky turns and the way the world changes. Everything calms down a little. Like we are all waiting for the sun to dip below the horizon.

These were taken on a warm February evening in Lynnwood outside our house. It was a peaceful time as Kelly and I stood on the porch and watched the sun leave and the moon arrive.

Love is always sweeter in the dimming light of twilight.

New Goals

This week I started a new goal. To lose weight before Kelly and I go to Hawaii (only 33 more days!!). I don't have a set amount I want to lose, just weight. And it helps to have an end date for a goal.

In order to help me stay on track I started a food journal. Instead of just keeping it with me, I started a food journal blog . I am blogging everything that I eat. So far (4 days in) I haven't messed up at all :)

Besides that, working and reading I haven't done anything this week... Yet I am SO tired. Maybe I need to stop reading before 11pm from now on.
