The Text

Randy had to go in to work really early one morning and woke me up.  Since I couldn't go back to sleep, I grabbed my new phone, planning on killing some time playing with it while I lay in bed.  I saw this text from Dixon.  He had sent it the night before.  Since I had nothing else to do, I decided to answer him right then.  To my surprise, he texted me right back!  The following conversation then began.

Dix: Kasen just puked all over dad and the chair.     9:02 pm, Dec. 2

Me: Oh No!  He didn't act sick at my house.  Now what will happen?  I hope you don't get it.  Have a good day at school.   4:26 am, Dec. 3

Dix: I will let you know when I ask.  Have a good day too.    4:28 am, Dec. 3

Me: Why are you awake so early?  4:29 am Dec. 3

Dix:  Don't know couldn't sleep.   4:30 am Dec. 3

Me: I'm sorry that sucks.  Pa left way early too and woke me up.   4:31 am

Dix: Wasn't tomorrow the day I was going to your class?  If so remember and bring back your lesson planner.  4:33 am

Me: You can come any day from now on.  I'll bring my planner home tonight. 4:35 am

Dix: Oky Doky I'll plan on tomorrow probably. :) 4:36 am

Me: Are you in bed or up stairs?  4:37 am

Dix:  I'm in bed.  Although I might get up in 20 minutes and get some grub.  4:39 am

Me:  Okay, me too.  If you don't like your grub you can come get some of mine.  4:43 am

Dix:  Really!!!  Sweet!!!  I'd love to.  Plan on me coming.  Thanks!!! :)  4:46 am

Me:  I'll unlock the back door.  I might be in the shower when you get here.  4:48 am

Dix:  Oky Doky artichokey!!!  See you soon,  4:49am

Dix:  Does 5:15 sound good to you?  4:51 am

Dix:  Sorry I meant 5:00.  4:52 am

Dix:  Coming over right now just getting dressed.  5:02 am

Dix:  Mom and Dad are being mean and cussing me telling me I can't go so I'm sorry but I can't come.  :(

Me:  But I have bacon on.  Tell them to lighten up and let you come for 10 minutes at some point this morning.  5:22 am

Dix:  Maybe I could come at 6:20.  5:23 am

Me:  That will be fine.  5:24 am

Me:  Party poopers! 5:24 am

Dix:  Ya now you know what my life is like for the past six years:) 5:26 am

Me:  Why are they mad?  Did you sass or not practice?  5:28 am

Dix:  Now I can't even go upstairs!  5:28 am

Me:  They are probably just tired from all the puking.  Wait until Dad goes to work then call me and let me talk to your Mom.  For now just read and be respectful.  Don't cry or throw a fit and they'll relax.  I'm getting in the shower now.  5:32 am

Dix:  No.  They said, "It's five freaking o clock and a school night."   and I said, But I have two hours till I get on the bus and she invited me."  Still didn't work.  But the worst thing is I had my clothes on in 11 minutes!!  And now I have to lie awake in bed pants on hair combed everything.  5:34 am

Dix:  Mom's not going to school.  She is quite sick.  6:29 am

Dix:  Mom went in to get her sub. 6:56 am

Me:  Okay.  Now we know why she was grumpy and we can forgive her.  Love you!  6:58 am

Dix:  I'm getting on the bus.  See you later.  Don't forget your lesson plan. :) :) :) :) 6:59 am

Dix:  Love you too.  Thanks for the breakfast it was fun.  We should do it on saturday too.  7:00 am

So during my lunch break I called his Mom at home to give her a hard time for being such a mean mom over the breakfast disaster.  She didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about.  When I explained the whole thing to her, she started to laugh.  Apparently, she had thought that Dixon was sleep walking and making the whole thing up.  AND, she had got a notification from her cell carrier that Dixon, who didn't have texting on his phone at that time, had racked over $20 dollars of overages that morning!  It was pretty funny once the whole thing was understood.  Dix and I have agreed on what he can say to his parents the NEXT time that we are both awake in the middle of the night and texting bout a breakfast date.

They Passed!!

After many nights of classes and study and some worry as to wether it would actually happen, Jackson and Dixon passed hunter's safety!  This is Jackson's target.  He shot that squirrel right in the target zone every time!
Congratulations boys- that blue card is a long planned for and hard fought goal!

Dixon Turns 12!

Twelve years ago I had one of the most special and precious experiences of my life.  I was lucky enough to be present at the birth of my first grandchild, Dixon.  What a miracle it was!  This little fellow made me a Grandma- the most fun thing a woman can become.  All of the grandchildren have been pretty, adorable babies.   But Dixon was beautiful!  He had the most hair I have ever seen on a newborn.  It was thick, and black, and curled on his little neck.  He was chubby and had the most beautiful skin color.  As he grew he was smart as a whip and learned so quickly.  When he lived in Hyrum, I'd drive all the way around the mountain after school just to see him for a few minutes.  Lucky for us, he came to live next door.  He is still smart and he learns things quickly.  I was so proud of him last Sunday.  It was his first time passing the sacrament and he showed no nerves and he did it like he had been doing it for years.  Grandpa says that he gave the thought in priesthood (he found it and put it together by himself) in front of the whole group and he did it perfectly.  I am so proud of him when we are in public together.  He is such a respectful boy with lovely manners.  He makes me feel so glad that he's my grandson.  Now that he is 12, he is learning to play the guitar.  He is involved in scouts.  he reads everything and is such a scholar in all his academic subjects.  He rides horses well and he has excelled with his 4-H lambs every year.  He can be trusted to look after his brothers if needed and he is a great helper when Pa has a project and needs a hand.  We love you Dixon and we couldn't be more proud of you!

Happy 75th Grandma!

This summer, a plan began to hatch to throw Zelma a surprise 75th birthday party.  We planned a dinner and enlisted the help of her sister, Joanie, to help us get pictures so that we could make a slide show for her.  Elvis also came to wish her a happy birthday.
How we were ever able to keep it a surprise is a mystery since everyone was in on the secret- except her.  Shane Petersen let us park cars at his place.  The ruse to get her there was that we were having a little birthday party for Dixon.  Once everyone was there, Randy and Dixon walked over and got her.
The lights were out when she came through the garage door.  We yelled, "Surprise", and boy was she ever!  After dinner we took her down stairs where Elvis sang a birthday song and performed a dance as only Elvis can.
It was pretty funny!  The best part was having Joanie, Bill and Monte come.  Early in October Shelly, Patti and I paid Monte a personal visit and begged him to come.  We were so persuasive that he didn't dare not show up!
Joanie and Bill
The highlight of the night was a DVD put together through hours of work.  Marci collected pictures for Joanie and from other family members and she and Susan scanned them all into the computer.  Then Shaylyn spent many hours downloading the photos, arranging them perfectly and setting music to each slide.  The finale was video messages almost from every member of the family.  It was a touching tribute to a woman that we all love so much.  Zelma has been a wonderful mother and grandmother to us all.
The night ended with a pinata.  Never had one before.  It was fun, but dangerous!
