Tips for nusing mother when baby Jaundice

Nowadays baby easy get Jaundice after birth. From Wikipedia, Jaundice, (also known as icterus, attributive adjective: icteric) is a yellowish pigmentation of the skin, the conjunctival membranes over the sclerae (whites of the eyes), and other mucous membranes caused by hyperbilirubinemia (increased levels of bilirubin in the blood). This hyperbilirubinemia subsequently causes increased levels of bilirubin in the extracellular fluids.

I just give birth my 2nd baby on September 27th this year. My 2nd daughter recover faster from Jaundice compare to my 1st child,. What i did differently is i fully give breast milk for this 2nd baby. I have misunderstood that giving mix breast milk with formula milk would help my baby recover faster from Jaundice. I get to know that baby Jaundice level will easy go down if baby able stool and urinate more often. With breast milk it will help baby stool and urinate more often. Thus, My 2nd daughter able stool and urinate more compare to my 1st child with the breast milk. Thus, she recover faster.

Besides, i also cut down taking ginger and " So Hup"  during confinement. Let me know if you have other thoughts.

Breastfeeding

Link below is very helpful if you would like understand on breastfeeding. It also talk about breast milk, benefit for infant and mothers, breasfeeding difficulties, infant weight gain, methods and etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breastfeeding

Below is the text that i extract from the wikipedia link and talk about breast milk.
Not all the properties of breast milk are understood, but its nutrient content is relatively stable. Breast milk is made from nutrients in the mother's bloodstream and bodily stores. Because breastfeeding uses an average of 500 calories a day it helps the mother lose weight after giving birth. The composition of breast milk changes depending on how long the baby nurses at each session, as well as on the age of the child.
Research shows that the milk and energy content of breastmilk actually decreases after the first year. Breastmilk adapts to a toddler's developing system, providing exactly the right amount of nutrition at exactly the right time.In fact, research shows that between the ages of 12 and 24 months, 448 milliliters of human milk provide these percentages of the following minimum daily requirements:
Energy:29%
Folate:76%
Protein:43%
Vitamin B12:94%
Calcium:36%
Vitamin C:60%
Vitamin A:75%
The quality of a mother's breast milk may be compromised by stress, bad food habits, chronic illnesses, smoking, and drinking.

Breastfeeding- Storage tips and Guidelines

Some sharing which i come across from article
  • Refrigerator (32-39 degrees): Up to 3 days
  • Freezer compartment inside a refrigerator: 2 weeks
  • Freezer compartment with a separate door: 3 to 4 months

Breast milk can be stored temporarily at room temperature for 24hours at 60 degrees. Breast milk cannot be stored at room tempratures of 80 degrees or more. Be sure not to fill a freezer bag or bottle to capacity as the milk will expand when frozen.

Take the bottle from the refrigerator and hold on to top of the bottle, spinning it slightly in the cup of hot water. In about 1 min the bottle is nice and warm, within a total of 3 minutes.
