PIG ONLINE

i am on afternoon/night shift today because i was feeling still feeling so tired. so i had my very kind older brother, danny, to cover this morning, till about three.

i rarely bring my laptop to work since i have always had a book to read. however, now that i have read all the books that is in our house (we don't have many) that interest me, i thought i should bring my laptop today to listen to the albums elaine burnt for me, and keep myself entertained playing spider solitaire, or watching crash.

clicking the cards away just a while ago, i suddenly felt the need for internet connection. i looked at the phone and recalled the username and password of a jaring account belonging to the sister of a good friend i had sometimes used back in secondary school (haha thank you!!). so i connected the phone line and started setting up the connection. then, i dialed. the username and password turned out to be invalid on the domain. sad. i must have remembered the wrong username or password, or both, or the account has simply expired because... who uses dial-up these days right?

i sat there thinking for a minute. i really wanted internet (and for no real reason to be honest!).

i got my wallet from the drawer and walked real quickly to the grocery store behind us.

"Hi uncle, do you have jaring dial-up prepaid cards?"

"HUH? handphone one ar?"

"no no.. internet one.."

"oh, dont have"

i went to check three other grocery stores and the same thing happened. then, i walked into the first of the two telecommunications shop.

"prepaid card? ya got!"

"no no.. i want internet one.."

"oh... handphone one got la.."

"okay, thank you!"

my last hope... the telecommunications shop where i topped up yimi's hotlink....

"jaring? don't have..."

"oh, ok..."

i was about to walk out when i noticed the lady taking out a stack of cards and looking through them.

"erm.... tmnet prepaid i have..."

"really? can i have a look at it?"

"erm.. here.."

it cost RM20 and read "tmnet prepaid reload" on the front. there is a "security ID" that i must scrap off using a coin on the back of the card, an expiry date, and the card's serial number. there was something amiss i thought. i was sure i needed an account: a username and a password!

however, feeling so impulsive, i bought the card anyway!

"i think i can use this! thank you!"

i paid and almost ran back to Home Delights, where i almost immediately realised i still cant get a connection because i didn't buy an account! i rang ben ben and kimmie ong, and texted elaine to enquire how i should set up a dial-up connection with the card i just bought and elaine told me that i should have bought a RM30 card for a new account!

i sat and think for another minute. that's it! elaine had always been using dial-up until not too long ago! i could get her username and password and top it up for her!

so, my dearest elaine gave me her username and password and here i am, feeling all proud of myself! it has been ages since i've used a dial-up connection or done anything quite this impulsive.

this is so exciting. *beams

ini satu kecil dunia selepas semua

since i've not blogged for some time.. here goes.

well, yeah i kinda realised that the world is actually small. but recently i've come to realise that this world is, indeed. very. small.

when i 1st received the letter of acceptance for the scholarship, i realised that i would be studying in the same university which my old man went 36 years ago (hmm.. there're 2 language universities for monbusho scholars in japan - tokyo & osaka).

on the 2nd day of arrival in japan, i met the only singaporean monbusho scholar in this university (who later became my classmate). before long, i found out that i had been living in "his" hostel for 2 years and we've never met each other before (ie. he's a hwa-chongian. but a year our senior, which means that we're of the same age).

on the very same day, i found out that the indonesian girl i've been looking at (i did that coz she looked super duper familiar) was our fellow hcibs mate. hint hint SAJC people.

then, we went to the sakura-seeing party. and apparently one of our seniors is my SMKSU senior (who's under the very same infamous bio teacher of all time).

and yesterday, i met my primary schoolmate at the staircase when i was about to dash out of the IT building for the bus (and obviously i missed it). dang, she's now 1 year faster than me... (she doesn't have to take a 1-year preparatory course).

small world, ne.

so does that mean that the malayseans will one day re-unite somewhere in this small small world too? :D

Sorry this came late hahaha

Did you know..

.. that when you call someone, even if that someone hangs up and YOU dont, the person can pick up the phone 2 hours later and YOu would still be on the line cos its STILL connected ? Of course, you'd be footing for the bill since you called.

SO anyway, if you did know, well GOOD FOR YOU because our dear Alexander Yap didnt know this. SO the other day, upon retuning his call on the house phone, alex said he couldnt really hear me using the particular phone and asked me to call back 5 seconds later while he runs up to the other phone. So i said, yeah okay just hang up and pick up the other phone. Kesedihannya, my voice was too soft and he only heard the "hang up " part of the sentence la.. [actually, he heard the rest but it sounded like junk]. Then he hung up. And so i waited la. waited.. waited.. WHeN is this fella going to pick up the other phone? Eh, how long does it take la for him to run upstairs? Hmm.. maybe he kena intercepted by parents? Then suddenly i had this vision of alex sitting by the phone, just WAITING for it to ring so he can pick it up.

Alamak.. that fella.

SO, i called back . And true enough before it even completed one ring, Alex dengan enthusiastic-nyer greets " He~El-Loo? "

" .. . you were waiting for the phone to ring before you picked it up right? "

" HeEn-NaaA , why take you so long to call back wann? "

" eh, Hello, i was still on the line la. All you had to do was PICK UP the phone!"

" HUh?! really? got such thing ar?! "

And then on persuasion, Alex hung up and picked up the phone again. And, to hardly any surprise [except his], i was still on the line! Dont we learn new things everyday ;) Yay~!

What has reality TV come to?

Ha hum... This is the new (well, in Malaysia anyway) reality TV show starting this Sunday 9.00 pm on StarWorld (apologies to those without ASTRO)...

Presenting...

Ignore the "Mondays 8/7c"... Couldn't find a better picture to upload...

Briefly :

The Scholar, a six-week summer show premiering Sunday on StarWorld (9p.m.), pits teens against one another Survivor-style. The show features a diverse group of telegenic high school seniors from all over the USA.

Ten bright-eyed high school seniors, veterans of the essay-filled slog that is the admissions process, will live in a house together--a la The Real World --as they compete for a full-ride scholarship.

They will have to demonstrate excellence in the areas of academics, leadership, creativity and community service, while facing sudden-death oral exams defending themselves to an Ivy League scholarship committee.

From award-winning producers Steve Martin, Joan Stein, Jon Murray ("The Real World," "The Simple Life"), Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner ("That '70s Show," "Roseanne," "The Cosby Show"), The Scholar...

I don't know whether to feel sick or to just laugh out loud for a very very long time... Haha, the utter irony... So, anyone going to watch it this Sunday?
