Hello, One Flower Wednesday!

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

- Colossians 1:10 (NLT)

Hello "One-Flower Wednesday!" I've been busy quilting my Christmas Quilt on my sewing machine. It takes some muscle to wrestle a quilt while trying to move it around. I guess I can call that my exercise for the day, right?

I'm almost done, just need to quilt that last green border and then bind it.

I took time last evening to get two little flowers ready for "One-Flower Wednesday." Again I made one 1/2-inch flower surrounded with the green leafy fabric and one without.

Total is now 220. I know, I know, last week I said total was 209 but I re-counted and found that I had 220 so that's good news. Click on “One Flower Wednesday” to see flowers others have made.

That is all.

Beautiful, sunshiney One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor. - Proverbs 21:21 (NLT)

It's a beautiful "One-Flower Wednesday," full of sunshine and here are my flowers. Again I made one 1/2-inch flower surrounded with the green leafy fabric and one without.

Total is now 209. Click on “One Flower Wednesday” to see flowers others have made.

I've finally sandwiched my Christmas quilt so maybe I'll have that to show you some day. I started out by sewing the tag in upside-down but my sister Ida pointed out that if one is looking at the front side of the quilt and flips up the bottom edge, why then the label is rightside-up. Well, it made sense to me also so I'm leaving it. I'm also being optimistic in that I already embroidered the year 2014 on it so now I have to finish it up this year.

That is all.

It's still One Flower Wednesday

Encouraging Words of the Day:

So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.- John 13:34 (NLT)

It's "One-Flower Wednesday" and this will sound like a repeat of last week since I made one 1/2-inch flower surrounded with the green leafy fabric and one without.

Total is now 207. This is going to take forever.

I've also received these beautiful flowers from my February partner in the "Inchy-Hexagon Flower Swap." Thanks, Ros. They're gorgeous.

I've been busy finishing up the quilt I started in the "Pile 'o Fabric Quilt-Along of 2013." I finally got that done and gave it to my husband since he had been pointing out recently that I give quilts to everyone but he has never gotten one. Well, he can't say that any more. Here is "Johnny's Quilt." The quilting was quilt-as-you-go and I was pretty excited about how quickly it all came together.

"One-Flower Wednesday"

Encouraging Words of the Day:

This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. ~ Psalm 118:24, NLT

Well, I did break my self-imposed plan to use only stash as much as possible. I had to buy the background fabric for the leafy spacers for my 1/2-inch hexies. So I cut several hexie shapes with my Go-Baby cutter and proceeded to baste several hundred of these. I have a pile of them which I baste while my husband and I watch our newly-discovered series of "Breaking Bad."

Then I decided that for this week's flowers, I'd sew a few of these leafy hexies around a flower. Man, is that a job! It takes 12 sides of sewing hexies together to make a little flower but 42 sides to make a flower surrounded by the green leafy fabric. Much longer this way! Here one I completed along with a regular flower.

Working on UFOs

Encouraging Words of the Day:

And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. - Ephesians 3:18 (NLT)

UFOs have been on my mind lately so I've been working on getting a few of those out of the way, keeping in mind that I WILL use my stash to complete projects. I've done pretty well in that department lately. As for UFOs, I'm determined to finish a quilt I started in the "Pile 'o Fabric Quilt-Along of 2013." This entailed a quilt-as-you-go project and now that I'm finishing it, I love the quilt-as-you-go quilting. It's so much easier to quilt one block at a time with my sewing machine and sew them together after. I've got 5 strips of 4 blocks each almost completed. Then I'll sew the strips together and almost be done. Here are photos of what I'm doing.

That border between them is how the blocks are joined. I was surprised at the instructions for joining the blocks but it works! Almost magical.

Then I still have two quilt tops to sandwich and quilt, those being my Christmas quilt which I WILL complete in time for Christmas 2014 and my namesake, the "Good-night, Irene" quilt. I wish I had known hot to quilt-as-you-go before I got the tops all sewn together. I guess I'll have to do those the old-fashioned, tedious, time-consuming way.

That is all.
