2008 MSSB Band Camp
[Please take note there is another post posted by James at the bottom]
So how's this year band camp? Fun/Boring/Normal?
Whatever it is, I guess everyone has put in alot of effort in this year band camp.
1stly is the Band Competition.
There were a lot of funny moments during band competition. Thanks to Trumpet, Percussion and Flutes + Oboes. Very entertaining. =)
Congratulations to Trumpet (3rd), Clarinet (2nd) and Trombone+Tuba (1st) for the Section Competition.
Although I expect a better performance from Trombone and Tuba (which join in our practice 1 hour before comp. (-_-\\\) ) Never mind. Do a better job during Sec 1 Orientation.
Percussion!! It's ok... you all lost and landed on 4th position (even though it should be better). Never mind, you all did well.
Horns, Saxophone, Euphonium + Bassoon, Flutes + Oboes: You all did very well, although there are SOME mistakes here and there. Not bad for a 2 days effort! Good Job!

Next, SYF audition I
9am - 430pm
During that few hours, I have listened to so many of you. There were some impressive ones but there were some disappointing ones too.
Can all of you be more relax when you all come in for audition the next time round?
RELAX!!!
Let me list down some of the things during the audition:
1. COLD hands /Sweaty Palms (100%).
2. Natural vibrato (almost 90 % of the ppl). all your playing "SHAKE" like mad.
3. Trembling fingers or body (around 70%).
4. Keep looking at my expression and make urself more scared (50%). don't listen to shaun la! Like that I can't even move during audition la.. Smile only, scared till don't know what... Don't think so much. Smile may = to good too what. Shaun! Don't be so paranoid!!
5. OH MY GOD!! I can't think! OH MY GOD!! I can't play. Oh my god.. Oh my god! OMG x 30 times. (1 person). Basically the whole time, that guy comes in for audition all I hear is OH MY GOD!
---
I have told all of you, I will be VERY lenient for this SYF audition. Why still so worried? Just play well and you will pass. Just see the number of ppl that pass the audition.
If up till now, you don't know whether you pass or not. I shall post it down here. ^^

~the legacy continues~
This is the first post after the band camp and yes it will be about the band camp! Do enjoy the post although it maybe a little long. This year band camp highlights 3 very important events which are: the inaugural section competition 2008, SYF auditions on TMC by Fredy Chia and POP for the Secondary 4 MSSB members.
Firstly, the Section Competition was a really great one. Although some of you all didnt perform too well but its ok. Its a really good effort put in by all of you! So i guess i can only phrase it as: Im proud of you guys! Give yourselves, your section and everyone a big round of appaluse!
The inaugural Section Competion 2008 was held at 2030 on 28th November. The panel of distinguished judges includes: Mr Chiang, Mrs Tey, Miss Lee, Mr Wu, Mdm Lim, Mr Tan and Miss Menon! Please thank them for coming down to be judges of this year's section competition! This section competition was a very tough one with many sections doing very well but the judges have chosen the top 3 sections!
The results are:(DRUMROLL PLEASE!)
3rd in place we have the Trumpet section who did a skit that was really funny!
2nd in place we have the Clarinet Section who played coral sea. Good singing by the way!
1st in place we have the Trombone and Tuba Section who played super mario brothers suite, arranged by Jason Chee and edited by Fredy Chia! LOL!
These are the final results for the Section comeptition but not the final results for the best section of 2008!
Next, I must comment on all those who have taken the audition on the last day of band camp. Great job on completing Fredy's audition. It is a difficult but not impossible task to pass Fredy's auditon. So, all those who did not pass. Please do work doubly hard in order to pass the next auditions which would mos probably be in the begnning of next year. So everyone do get ready for the next audiitons. Congratulations to all those who passed the auditions! By the way, the next auditions will also include the set piece and do take note that we are doign the overture No.2 so dont practice the wrong piece! Good luck guys for the next audtions.
This SYF auditions was a very strong competition with comments given in the form of stickers. These comments are very helpful in improving your playing so all please do follow your comments to improve yourselves.
Thirdly, POP was an informal one but it was done nevertheless. I think all of you should be familiar with your Sec 3 EXCO already so I shall not recite them. By the way, the names of all EXCOS are already posted on this blog on the left hand side.
With all the efforts you guys have put in for the section competition and the SYF auditions, Mr Chiang and the teachers and of course Fredy have chosen the best section of the year and this year the school have thus conferred the best section award to the:
Trombone Section!
( I just want to congratulate the trombone section for all the hard work that they have put in, although i am in the trombone section! ><)
Also, this yearis the first time when the band gives out the best Sec 1, Sec 2 and Sec 3 awards to outstanding members who have worked hard on their instruments and have a positive attitude towards band and have dedicated themselves to help imrpove the standards of the band!
I will now announce the BEST Sec 1, 2 and 3! (DRUMROLL PLEASE!)
The award of the Best Sec 1 of the year 2008 goes to: SHAUN HO! (Trumpet)
The award of the Best Sec 2 of the year 2008 goes to: DARREN LIM! (Bass Clar)
The award of the Best Sec 3 of the year 2008 goes to: JESUS! (Clarinet)
With that, this marks the end of the Band Camp 2008 and I hope that everyone have enjoyed as much as i have and I look forward to everyone continuing to work hard for the SYF Central Judging Competition next year! ( GWH is out target! Please work hard!)
Three cheers for Mr Chiang, all the teachers, all the alumnis and all MSSB members!
Hip Hip HOORAY!

Firstly, there will be an audition on the SYF choice piece (you know what) on the 3rd day of band camp. Marks will be given and will be tied to section competition results for overall best section award. So all please practise your TMC.
Secondly, please bring all 3 band T-shirts and school house T-shirts or school related T shirts! NO HOME CLOTHES! Bottoms up to all of you. Avoid bringing jeans! If not you all will sweat a lot. Bring Bermudas. ^^
Thirdly, please add a torchlight and a windbreaker/sweater to your packing list. It is usually cold, windy and dark at night. So please remember those 2 items.
