Go, Go Gadget Graffiti!

When I was in college a huge thing for student organizations (or random activists or random anybodies) to write messages on the sidewalks with large pieces of sidewalk chalk. "Pep Rally Thursday Night 6:00" next to "Just Say No to G.W.!" next to "Roll out to ZTA Crowning of the Champions!" I never thought when I was out late at night writing on sidewalks with my friends about the one day when I would sit and write on the sidewalk of my own house with my very own little offspring. The pictures are different... ABC's and swirly doodles, but the company is a blessing. This summer day Millie and I spent quite a bit of time enjoying the sun expressing our creativity.

Life's reasons to get together.

I love when you're in your 20s & 30s and life gives you reasons to reconnect with your beloved friends. I adore my "college girls" who never cease to keep me entertained and feel very loved. When we start missing each other one of us will start organizing a getaway or get-together to reconnect. This summer we met in Dallas for a weekend of relaxing, dining, laughing, and reminiscing. These girls hold a massive place in my heart and I'm so thankful and blessed for our unconditional friendship. On this trip, we were high-fiving Elizabeth's little baby bump. "The Alien" is healthily on his way and we couldn't be happier!

Mommy's Day!

Yeah for Mother's Day #2. I feel like the luckiest mom in the world, and I'm related to and learn from so many mothers whom I love very deeply. I'm also beginning to appreciate the mothers around me who are my close friends. It's so comforting to have the "Mommy Club" at my back. Where would the world be without mothers? I'm a mother-lover... what can I say?

Baby Fever

Throughout this year I have had many bouts of baby fever. But it all started here... with one Jude Ryan Woody. My friend Melanie gave birth to Jude on May 6th, 2010. We thought (and secretly hoped) that he would be born on Cinco de Mayo so we would have extra reason to get together and make margaritas, but he had other plans. Melanie was such a champion birth giver-er and I'm so impressed by her ability to "keep it cool." It helped that this time around her epidural was given before she was complete, so she could relax a little. But the little dude wanted to stay in his warm home for quite a while. All night long (from around 8:00 to 2:30am-ish) we waited for him to make his grand entry. We watched some American Idol, some clips of Glee online, and talked about various parenting topics, told stories, sang "Hey, Jude" one too many times. I read Melanie my BSF notes and we talked about doing that together. We drank coffee (well, not the mom) and more coffee and waited until finally Jude was like, "Well, ok. I guess I'll come out now." And when he did, Melanie gave four little pushes and there he was. I was privileged to be there again for his birth as the "videographer" and I almost felt bad because there was like an hour of video footage of Riley's birth and about 2 minutes of Jude's. So it goes with the middle child, right?

So now, 8 months later... please let me tell you... this boy is like an angel on earth. I'm not sure what his special intoxicating powers are, but he is so incredibly sweet. He's the kind of kid they write pretty little children's books about. He has a huge smile, heart melting eyes, and such a laid back temperament. It was several months before I heard him really cry. I know he's going to have the ladies after him. As a matter of fact, for Christmas I bought him a tee shirt that says, "Lock up your daughters!" What a cutie that Jude. He's my little boyfriend and I love, love, love him so! Maybe 2011 will bring a little friend for him... who knows???

Pepa's Strawberries

Early this summer Millie enjoyed her first bowl of homegrown "Pepa" strawberries (in her Halloween peacock costume, of course.) My Pepa (Dad's dad) works tireless hours every year on his beautiful garden and graciously shares his bounty with his loved ones. Pepa's tomatoes and strawberries are up there on my favorite foods on the planet, followed closely by his cucumbers. For my loved ones who have experienced them, here's an experiment... I want you to think of a Mema Thelma Sunday dinner in the summer (whatever main dish comes to mind will work) complete with a bowl of Pepa's cucumbers floating in the perfect ratio of vinegar to water with a little salt sprinkled on top, a salt and pepper topped slice of vine-ripened tomato next to whatever that is on your plate covered with gravy, and a post dinner dessert of a bowl of mushed up strawberries perfectly hand squished by Mema's tiny hands. Your berries are probably made complete by crushed butter crackers and a dollop of Cool Whip, but mine sit alone making my jowls ache in happiness with every tart/sweet bite. Ok. Is your mouth watering? Mine sure is. Love to Mema & Pepa, and many thanks for always sharing your garden with us!
A Little Girl's Love of Tutus

My friend Koby had a short lived business making and selling tutus and she ended up with dozens of extra tutus which soon found a home here at 421 N. Primrose. I am so thankful for these as Millie has been fallen in love with them! For about 3 weeks in a row, she asked for her "tu...tu" and luckily I had many to choose from out of the stock that Koby donated so I could pick one to match her outfit. Now, where is she wearing these tutus? Not really anywhere... mostly around the house and sometimes to the office or my mom's house. The girl just has to be ready to flit and float around at a moment's notice!

Auntie Melissa Gets Married!
This spring Bryan's big sister Melissa got hitched to her beau David on the beautiful beaches of Maui. Several celebrations would later follow. The first was a family portrait session where we got a glimpse of Melissa in her gown. Millie was smitten! The night before, Melissa and the gals had a little girls' night out/ bachelorette party to celebrate the ceasing of Melissa's singlehood! Miss Millie was very sick for the portrait session and it was kind of a tough weekend for us. More to follow on that part of our wild and scary weekend, but no sad stories here!

We were so happy to return to Little Rock in May for the reception at the Peabody Hotel to shimmy the night away in celebration of Melissa & David's new life together. We had so much fun. (This is an incredible understatement... we had a ridiculously raucous time!) Many pictures were snapped away by Summer Williams, Melissa's friend and photographer (See summerwilliamsphotography.blogspot.com) including all of the pics on this post (minus the bach-ette party pics and the beach pic.) You rock, Summer!

I pray that Melissa & David will have a lifetime of love together as their family (completed by Seth & Sydney) grows even stronger. We love you all and are so happy to be related to you Hoffmans'!!!
