Frog!

I found a frog in a pot of old herbs from last year that just bloomed and didn't really produce but a sprig of chives. It was a tree frog that wasn't the prettiest but we sure had fun! I love discovering new things with my son.

See the frog?

He liked holding it.

And squishing it. (see the arms and legs flalling? That was a good lesson in gentleness)

Mama see the frog? I know I'll....

Put it on your foot!

It's better on my hand where I can see it~

Me holding the frog and Angus signing frog. (his version at least)

Put him back where I found him. An hour later he was gone. Thanks for visiting Mr. Frog! (Don't worry no warts were developed and a thurough hand washing commenced after the play!)

The walk of DOOM!

As mentioned in previous posts I have chosen to push myself physically and do the 3 day walk for Breast Cancer research in Cleveland at the end of July. My sister and I are busy training (not to mention being moms and wives) and fund raising to meet our collective goal of $5,000. My sister and I have been blessed with being handed down the desire to work with our hands creating things. Amy has a few personalized onesies on her etsy site for sale and she's working on a special breast cancer onesie to further the cause. As for me I've gotta get busy putting together hand made cards and envelopes, reusable baggies, and maybe a couple personalized Army aprons. If you're interested in any of these things let me know and I'll make them for you for a donation of any size towards our fundraising goal.
A fun fact I just discovered is May 10th, Mother's Day, Major League Baseball will be fighting for the cure too with pink bats made by Louisville Slugger and having honorary bat girls on each major league field. Check this out.

How's my training going? Well with a lot of butt kicking from my husband I have been successful so far in sticking with the training this week.

Here's what it has entailed thus far:
Monday: 1 hr. cardio water aerobics
Tuesday: 3 miles, easy
Wednesday: Another 45 mins. cardio water aerobics
Thursday: 5 miles, moderate
Friday: 1 hr. cardio water aerobics.

Saturday (tomorrow) I will walk six miles and take Sunday off as a day of rest.

I am happy to report that when I started walking I was huffing and puffing at a 23 minute mile. Yesterday when I did my 5 miles I was huffing and puffing but got the first 2 miles down to 16-17 minutes and the 3 miles around 18-19 minutes (it was 80 degrees out). Both times I have been pushing my 32 lb. son too. I can certainly feel my leg, thigh, calve and butt muscles forming more and helping me move. It's a good feeling. And a sign that I'm going to be able to conquer this feat. And as my friend Libertie said yesterday while we were walking I might be well aclmated to the heat up north as I walk down here.

A BIG THANKS to the following people who have already donated toward our fundraising goal:
Jason Schedler $100
Ethan & Connor Beckett $100
Christy Brown $30
Theresa Sanders $50

We would love to have all our funds raised by June 1st. Please follow these links to give generously towards the education and fight of breast cancer. Thanks!

Thanks for reading this and even consider donating $25!

Jammin'

Rhubarb is in season now and strawberries were on sale at Walmart for $1.25 so it was time to make some jam. I called Libertie and asked if she wanted to join me and she brought Berea and Shenzi over too. Here are the fruits of our labor....

Home made strawberry rhubarb jam.

Angus with his favorite dog.

Best pals. Guess we need to get him a dog in the future.

Up close and personal with Berea for the first time. I think he's going to be a great big brother, some day.

Mama isn't she cute?

Chillin' on the deck with juice and some pretzels. I love my boy!

Rivers and Spires and Craftabulous Mix

This weekend we went to the annual Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville. Goose had a chance to people and dog watch as well as try out some inflatable fun with Daddy. Today I wanted to sew, so sew I did! I made some reusable baggies for dry goods and a new asian themed market bag. Here are the pictures to prove it...

Eating fishies out of his new truck baggie secured with velcro.

So stinkin' cute!

The market bag ready for the market!

Not so sure about the tunnel...

The tongue action helps get him down the slide.

Mr. Potato Head!

Daddy climbed alllllllll the way up with me so I could slide down with a funny face and sign "more" at the end.

Easter fun, more baking adventures, and MORE!

See?

Not another picture Mama!

My handsome hubby posing with his plate.

From the Everday Food magazine (martha stewart) I tried a recipe for black beans and beets. It turned out pretty good and look just like the picture surprise surprise. It was my first time using dried beans and fresh beets. It was our Easter lunch.

Just like the picture...

Me

Goose and I decided (just me really) to make shortbread cookies for Easter for our neighbors. This was his first experience licking the batter from the beaters. (ingredients: butter, flour, brown sugar)

Our friends from church Beth Ann and her daughter Seis came over for dinner and an easter egg hunt with eggs filled with mini bubbles. They had fun.

Goose demonstrating his put the toy (usually a car) on the slide, climb up the ladder and push the toy down the slide and watch it zoom down.

See our eggs?

In other news...
This week we've welcomed our friend Darren back from Afghanistan and have given him a place to stay while he awaits the final approval to be released from the Army (about the second week of May). Welcome Home Darren!
