Plane's in Black & White

I have yet to take some time and post some of the photos I took at the Reno Air Races this year. These are a few of the race planes parked in the pits that I did a B&W conversion on. I used Nik's Color Effects Pro & Silver Effects Pro to get the look I wanted.

The Community

These are just a few images of the community we were working in but they give you a sense of what the people that live there face everyday.

Photo Class

One of the things I had the chance to do in Kenya was some beginner photo classes for some of the adults with MOHI and some of the kids in the Kiamiako school. I would start off with some instruction in some of the basic photography rules as well as some camera operation stuff. After that we would walk around the community for a bit where they each had a camera and were able to take photos of whatever they wanted. When we went back in the classroom I would load up a few images from each person onto an iPad and we would talk about what worked and didn't work in the images we looked at. In doing this with the kids in the school it gave them a chance to try something creative in a way they may not normally have the opportunity to. Now going threw all the photos again myself and having another look it is also interesting to think about what they chose to photograph.

The following images are ones from the adults I worked with at the Missions Of Hope International (MOHI) center. These are all straight out of the camera with no editing done to them.

These next images are from the 2 classes I did with the students at the school in Kiamiako. Over the 2 mornings I did this I probably had 11 different students. Again these images are straight out of the camera with no editing and while I edit most my images to give them that little extra adjustment I wanted to show these how they were with no cropping or adjustments.

These last 2 were taken by Peter who was in the class I did with the adults and he was also the teacher that helped, as well as participated, with the classes for the students. Most the kids speak English as a second language but he was a great help when a concept was better understood translated into Swahili and I am sure he made me sound better!

The following are a few more photos that were taken by both the kids and adults that I did do some editing to for the final image.

This is the second group of students I worked with. The gentleman in the back on the right is Peter the teacher that I referred to.

Faces of Kiamiako

These are some of the kids we worked with in at Kiamiako. One thing most the kids seemed to like there is to have there photo taken, I was constantly being asked to take photos.
