Simply unconscionable

On Friday night, the House passed President Joe Biden's sweeping COVID relief bill with a $15-an-hour minimum wage—which would be a game-changer to tens of millions of severely underpaid workers in the richest country on earth—but now the Senate is on the verge of killing the minimum wage increase?!

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

On Friday night, the House passed President Joe Biden's sweeping COVID relief bill with a $15-an-hour minimum wage—which would be a game-changer to tens of millions of severely underpaid workers in the richest country on earth—but now the Senate is on the verge of killing the minimum wage increase?!1

Democrats have the majority, and it's time for them to use it. Democrats must wield their power—and that means getting rid of the filibuster. Fast.

The filibuster is an archaic Senate rule that requires a 60-vote supermajority to pass legislation. In its current form, it's rooted in the Jim Crow era, when senators from Southern states used it to block civil rights legislation.2

It takes only a simple majority to change a Senate rule. But conservative Democratic Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona want to keep this Jim Crow-era relic in place.3 Enough is enough.

That's why my friends at MoveOn plan to turn up the heat on Sens. Manchin and Sinema by buying full-page ads in their hometown newspapers, launching polls showing the popularity of the $15 minimum wage and other urgent legislation, running a grassroots text messaging campaign to flood the senators with phone calls from their constituents, and more. But they can't do it without your support.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn turn up the heat and keep it up for as long as is needed to convince Senate Democrats to stop wasting their time negotiating with Mitch McConnell and immediately end the filibuster?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

The filibuster threatens any hope of safeguarding our democracy and ushering in transformational change, starting with passing the $15-an-hour minimum wage.

Green New Deal? Forget about it.

Immigration reform? Dead on arrival.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Act? Nope.

Legislation to combat Big Money in politics? When pigs fly.

Mar, let's be clear: This is a fight for the soul of the Democratic Party. And none of us can remain on the sidelines. That's why I have an urgent request:

Will you join me and chip in $5 a month to MoveOn right now to help turn up the heat and get rid of the filibuster? Whether it's flooding Senate offices with calls, launching hard-hitting ads, or something else, MoveOn will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Think about this: A $15-an-hour minimum wage would lift nearly 1 million people out of poverty and increase pay for a stunning 21% of U.S. workers.4,5

If worker compensation had kept pace with productivity gains, the current minimum wage would be more than $24 an hour.6

The current federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is simply unconscionable.

A $15-an-hour minimum wage would help all workers, particularly Black workers and other workers of color, and especially women of color workers, who make up a disproportionate share of our lowest-wage workers.7

As a former labor secretary, I could quote economic statistics to you all day long (no, really, I could). But we all know that this isn't about economics. It's about politics.

Sen. Manchin, Sen. Sinema, and other wavering Democrats need to hear from their constituents that they support getting rid of the filibuster, so we can raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and pass transformative policies to address the multiple crises our country faces. Only then will these senators come around.

MoveOn's millions of members nationwide—including impressive numbers even in red states like West Virginia—give MoveOn a unique ability in the progressive movement to mobilize grassroots pressure on Sen. Manchin and others like him. Your donation will enable MoveOn to amplify the voices of these senators' constituents, help commission polling, and make sure that these senators know that getting rid of the filibuster is not only good policy but also good politics.

This is simple: The filibuster is racist. It's anti-democratic. And it has to go. Now.

Democrats in Congress are at a crossroads. Your voice is essential right now.

Please, chip in $5 a month, or whatever you can afford, to convince Democrats in the Senate to end the filibuster and ensure that Mitch McConnell doesn't get to block critical legislation.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition: Confirm Biden nominee Neera Tanden

People are hurting and suffering right now. We need direct relief. We need a Director of OMB. People are hurting and suffering right now. We need direct relief. We need a Director of OMB.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

U.S senators who enabled and voted to confirm Trump's crony Cabinet members must stop being hypocrites by holding up the nomination of Neera Tanden, a qualified expert, to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). It is critical that she be confirmed for this Cabinet seat as Democrats work hard to pass President Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that hurting Americans so desperately need right now.

Sign now: Tell the U.S. Senate to confirm qualified Biden nominee Neera Tanden to lead the Office of Management and Budget!

The confirmation of Neera Tanden, a daughter of immigrants from India, as director of the OMB would be historic. If confirmed, she would shatter glass ceilings as the first Asian American and first woman of color to hold this position.

Many senators claim they are coming out against Tanden's nomination because of … tweets. Which is especially hypocritical considering the leader of their party was kicked off of nearly every social media platform for inciting a deadly insurrection led by white supremacists … on Twitter. When you look at whom these Republicans and conservative Democrats have confirmed in the past, you understand their objection to Tanden isn't just her tone.

These same hypocritical senators voted, even after hearing Christine Blasey Ford's heart-breaking testimony, to confirm Brett Kavanaugh, a sexual predator, to a lifetime position on the Supreme Court. Many voted to acquit Trump after he incited a deadly insurrection led by white supremacists. They supported, upheld, and enabled Trump and white supremacy for four years in spite of the hateful, racist, misogynistic, and disgusting things he said and did. They must stop the political theater and confirm Neera Tanden as director of the OMB NOW.

Let's be blunt: Nominees of color, especially nominees who are women of color, are facing a much harder confirmation process right now. Unsurprisingly, white male Cabinet nominees are going through just fine, but women of color like Deb Haaland, a Native woman, and Neera Tanden, an Asian American woman, are facing unnecessary roadblocks—as is Xavier Becerra, who would be the first Latino man to lead Health and Human Services. They need to stop moving the goal post for these qualified nominees of color—and especially for women of color—and confirm them.

People are hurting and suffering right now. We need direct relief. We need a director of OMB. Hypocritical senators must stop holding up a qualified, leading expert's nomination and confirm Neera Tanden as the next director of the OMB.

Add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Reverse Trump’s deadly obstruction of COVID-19 vaccines (petition)

"We have got to stand up to the pharmaceutical industry and say that people's lives are more important than patent monopolies and obscene profits." "We have got to stand up to the pharmaceutical industry and say that people's lives are more important than patent monopolies and obscene profits."

Dear MoveOn member,

Millions of people around the world may not get COVID-19 vaccines until as late as 2024—unless President Biden reverses Trump's giveaway to Big Pharma.

Sign now: Urge the Biden administration to reverse Trump's deadly obstruction of global COVID-19 vaccines!

The Trump administration allowed a deadly Big Pharma blockage of a waiver of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules that allow greedy pharmaceutical firms to set high prices for COVID treatments and control how much vaccine is produced. This blockage has paved the way for rich countries to hoard most of the vaccine supply, leaving poor countries behind and deepening the grip of inequity. It has cut off vaccine access and, as usual, has disproportionately affected poor, majority Black and brown communities across the globe.1

In October, India and South Africa proposed that the WTO allow the production of generic versions of the vaccine to expand access to disadvantaged communities. The Trump administration, doing Big Pharma's dirty work as usual, blocked this proposal, which continues to lead to many avoidable deaths.

The Biden administration must take every step and make every single effort possible to help end the global COVID-19 pandemic as quickly as possible, and reversing this Trump-era blockage must be one of those steps. Limiting vaccine access and supply means that people in developing countries might not get vaccinated for years. This is unacceptable.

Continued U.S. opposition creates needless suffering and loss of life. We're all at risk from this decision: COVID-19 outbreaks anywhere mean that new variants can emerge that could beat the current vaccines, so unless people worldwide can access vaccines and treatments, there can be no end to the public health or economic crises anywhere.

When President Biden was asked if he would be committed to sharing vaccine technology with other countries, he said, "Absolutely, positively. This is the only humane thing in the world to do."3 It's time for the Biden administration to make good on this critical promise.

And Biden is not alone; many people agree we must expand access to the vaccine. As Senator Bernie Sanders said, "We have got to stand up to the pharmaceutical industry and say that people's lives are more important than patent monopolies and obscene profits. We cannot allow rich countries to buy up the vast majority of the world's vaccines, while most of the world, living in poorer countries, has to wait in line for years."

But only Biden alone can reverse Trump's power grab for Big Pharma. This is a racial justice issue, an economic justice issue, and a health care justice issue, and it affects us all.

Add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends!

Thanks!

Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema

MoveOn is springing into action to pressure the two clear Democratic holdouts—Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona—as well as other senators if needed, to vote for President Biden's plan.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is a make-it-or-break-it week for Democrats, who are poised to start voting on President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill, including an increase in the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour.1

All 50 senators in the Democratic caucus are needed to pass the bill, using special budget rules that prevent Mitch McConnell and the GOP from filibustering it.

But at least two Democratic senators are putting the bill at risk, saying they won't support increasing the minimum wage—even though it would lift nearly 1 million people out of poverty and increase pay for a stunning 21% of U.S. workers.2,3,4

This is the Democrats' moment. And they need to deliver to a country ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic and massive racial and economic inequality. But that means being strong—and not negotiating with themselves when they don't need a single Republican vote.

That's why MoveOn is springing into action to pressure the two clear Democratic holdouts—Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona—as well as other senators if needed, to vote for President Biden's plan. But we need your help to have the resources to do it:

Will you chip in $3 right now to help put up ads, organize events in their states, enable us to connect with tens of thousands of their constituents about what's at stake and how they can help, and do everything else that is needed to win their votes and pass the COVID relief bill with a $15 minimum wage?

With the pandemic exposing America's deep racial disparities, the Reverend Dr. William J. Barber II, co-chair of the Poor People's Campaign, calls the fight for a $15 minimum wage "our Selma."5

He explains, "Just as the Selma campaign became a symbol during the civil rights movement of the need for legislation to expand voting rights, the $15 an hour minimum wage proposal in Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan represents the possibility that our government can take decisive action to make racial justice real today."6

But the latest media reports describe the bill as "essentially in the hands of possible dissenters like [Sen.] Manchin."7

Mar, we need to do everything we can to keep the minimum wage increase in the COVID relief bill, and time is of the essence.

Will you rush a donation of $3 right now to help us get Democratic Senators Manchin and Sinema to vote for President Biden's COVID relief bill?

President Biden's COVID relief bill, including increasing the minimum wage, is wildly popular.8 But Democrats need to stop chasing their tail and get it done.

Please, join with us while there's still time and chip in $3 now.

Thanks for all you do.

Emergency humanitarian aid for Texas (we need your help)

Hospitals are overwhelmed by Texas residents suffering from hypothermia; grocery stores are running out of food; and some families have resorted to burning their furniture in order to stay warm, while others are boiling snow so they can have clean water.

Dear MoveOn member,

Freezing temperatures have left millions of people across Texas without power, heat, food, and water, and already 30 people have died as a result of the arctic blast.1

Hospitals are overwhelmed by Texas residents suffering from hypothermia; grocery stores are running out of food; and some families have resorted to burning their furniture in order to stay warm, while others are boiling snow so they can have clean water.2,3

The situation is harrowing, and the needs on the ground are tremendous. MoveOn is springing into action by raising emergency humanitarian funds for the nonprofit Workers Defense Project, which is on the front lines of this tragedy and is connecting impacted families to warming centers, water, and food.

But we urgently need your help. Will you rush a tax-deductible donation to the Workers Defense Project's emergency fund to help victims on the ground in Texas?

Mar, despicably, when the arctic storm hit, Texas Senator Ted Cruz abandoned his constituents and flew to CancĂșn, Mexico, for a luxurious vacation.4 And one conservative Texas mayor told his constituents who are desperate for heat, water, and power that "only the strong will survive and the weak will [perish.]"5

It's clear that we can't count on elected officials like Ted Cruz to lead during this crisis.

So it's going to be up to all of us to step up and do whatever we can to support local emergency efforts and help the victims of this terrifying blizzard.

The Texas Organizing Project, which organizes Black and Latinx communities, and the Workers Defense Project, which fights for the rights of immigrants workers, are working around the clock to serve their communities and ensure that people in need are safe, healthy, and warm. Together, these organizations are:

  • Distributing relief funds to help those directly impacted;
  • Partnering with other local organizations to call and text millions of Texans to connect people with warming centers and water and food distribution sites; and
  • Using this moment to galvanize and organize folks in Texas to take on deregulation, inequality, climate change, and other deep, structural issues that left so many vulnerable when the storm hit.

Will you rush an emergency contribution right now to support the humanitarian relief efforts on the ground in Texas? 100% of your donation is tax-deductible and will go directly to the Workers Defense Project.

When tragedy strikes, MoveOn members like you have always quickly come together to assist communities in need.

MoveOn members chipped in millions of dollars to provide much-needed assistance to victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and residents of Flint, MI, during the water crisis, and to bail out Black Lives Matter protesters who had been unjustly jailed.

While our donations cannot undo the damage, together, we can ease the burdens of those who are suffering and those who are working around the clock to help them.

Black, Latinx, and poor communities are often hit the hardest when a natural disaster strikes, and this time is no different. Communities of color were the first to face power outages, and local officials are fearing for the lives and safety of homeless people in the state.6

Your contribution today will help connect families in need to warming centers, food, and water. And you will also be lessening their financial impact from the storm. Many Texans are losing out on income, sorely needed during the economically devastating COVID-19 pandemic, and are being saddled with enormous new expenses resulting from damaged pipes bursting and roofs collapsing.

If you are able, will you rush an emergency donation right now to help Texans in need?

Thanks for all you do.

Texas

A crisis approaching the scale of Hurricane Katrina is happening across the entire state of Texas right now, according to local officials.

Dear MoveOn member,

A crisis approaching the scale of Hurricane Katrina is happening across the entire state of Texas right now, according to local officials.1

The situation remains "life or death" for many, with millions of Texans facing food and water shortages following days of power outages—as the state braces for even more extreme winter weather.2

While most homes in Texas have regained power, millions of Texans are without clean water, because the storm damaged water treatment plants and caused pipes to freeze.3 Grocery store shelves are empty, due to disruptions in the food supply chain.

Texans are in desperate need of help, which is why MoveOn is partnering with the nonprofit Workers Defense Project to provide direct assistance to those in need.

Mar, in this time of crisis, we need to show up for each other. If you are able to help, please click here now to rush an urgent, tax-deductible donation to the Workers Defense Project to help Texans most in need.

The Workers Defense Project has been on the ground in Texas for years, organizing tirelessly to help workers protect and expand their rights, with a particular focus on immigrant workers who form the backbone of the construction industry.

When the coronavirus pandemic began, the Workers Defense Project set up a $3.5 million mutual aid fund to support community members who lost their jobs and were on the front lines of the COVID-19 fight.

And in the wake of last week's devastating storm, the Workers Defense Project partnered with the Texas Organizing Project, which organizes Black and Latinx communities, to restart the direct relief fund to help those impacted directly because of lost work or damage to their homes. Together, these organization are:

  • Partnering with other local organizations to call and text millions of Texans to connect people with warming centers, water and food distribution sites, and other resources.
  • Using this moment to galvanize and organize Texans to take on deregulation, inequality, climate change, and other deep, structural issues that left so many vulnerable when the storm hit.

The Workers Defense Project is doing the essential, emergency work to provide aid to those currently in crisis in Texas, while also investing in the long-term organizing needed to prevent another disaster from happening.

Will you make a tax-deductible gift now to help out in Texas? 100% of your donation will go directly to the Workers Defense Project.

While our donations cannot undo all of the damage, together, we can ease the burdens of those who are suffering and those who are working around the clock to help them.

Sign now: Ted Cruz must resign

Sen. Cruz must resign for attacking our democracy and ignoring the needs of his constituents.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

In the midst of the devastating climate crisis that's resulted in millions of Texans being forced to go without power and water during the worst extreme weather in a generation, Ted Cruz took off on a family vacation to Mexico.1 He's failed us again. It's long past time for him to resign.

Senator Ted Cruz voted to acquit Trump after he incited a deadly insurrection, and now, instead of connecting his constituents with emergency services as they freeze and starve with no power, he left the country to go on a vacation. Cruz is a failure. He must resign from office for his role in enabling the violent white supremacist insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and for failing Texans by leaving for vacation while his constituents freeze and starve to death.

On Wednesday, January 6, we witnessed an unprecedented assault on our democracy. A violent mob of white supremacists stormed the Capitol building, ransacking and vandalizing members' offices and the very chambers of the Senate and the House. Five people, including one Capitol Police officer, died as a result.

The seeds for this violent assault were planted well before January 6. Senator Ted Cruz was among the loudest voices in the Senate calling for an overturning of the will of tens of millions of voters in November's election in states like Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Georgia.

Add your name now to demand Sen. Cruz resign.

Despite dozens of failed court challenges and no evidence of fraud whatsoever, Sen. Cruz repeatedly stated that the election results from states he doesn't even represent were irregular and that they required further investigation.

He continued to peddle these blatant lies for his own political gain, even going so far as to send out a fundraising email while the siege of the Capitol was underway.

Sen. Cruz has blood on his hands. To him, this was a political game where he put his future opportunity to run for president above the people of Texas. He won't even help Texans get the resources they need as they suffer through the worst storm in a generation. Instead, he chose to flee to Mexico for a family vacation in our time of need. He has lost the right to represent Texans in the U.S. Senate. He must resign immediately.

Greg Abbott Resign, Ted Cruz Resign, Green New Deal Now

Add your name to show your support.

Dear MoveOn Member,

I'm Sunrise Movement and I started a petition to Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz, which says:

Millions of Texans are freezing right now and where are our "leaders?" Texas Governor Greg Abbott is on Fox News telling lies about wind turbines and the Green New Deal, rather than helping people, and Senator Ted Cruz is vacationing in Cancun.

Abbot and Cruz have failed to protect us from the climate crisis, promoting a deadly fossil fuel economy. They failed to ensure we were prepared for an extreme weather event like this. And now they're failing to protect us in our moment of need. It is time for Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz to resign.

We deserve a government that addresses our basic needs and protects all of us in moments in crisis. Despite the lies you'll hear from Abbott on Fox News, that's truly what the Green New Deal is all about. Now is the moment to deliver on immediate economic relief, invest in resilient infrastructure, ensure a social safety net, and halt the climate crisis once and for all. It is time for the Green New Deal.

Add your name to demand:

1) Greg Abbott + Ted Cruz Resign
2) Green New Deal Now
3) Immediate Economic Relief

Thanks!

Huge announcement: We're taking on the seditionists in 2022

MoveOn is making a HUGE announcement: We're launching a massive campaign to oust these GOP traitors at the ballot box in 2022.

Dear MoveOn member,

The GOP has despicably voted to acquit Donald Trump for inciting a deadly white supremacist attack on our democracy.1

We can't let these cowards—who would rather curry favor with Trump than protect our democracy—continue to serve in office.

So now, MoveOn is making a HUGE announcement: We're launching a massive campaign to oust these GOP traitors at the ballot box in 2022. We'll take on vulnerable GOP senators, including Marco Rubio in Florida and Ron Johnson in Wisconsin, and we'll go big to win open Senate seats in swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

But we need your help to launch and sustain this ambitious campaign through Election Day in 2022. Will you chip in $5 a month to help ensure we have the consistent resources to launch hard-hitting TV ads and billboards, run bold get-out-the-vote efforts, and do whatever else it takes to win in 2022?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Mar, we know it seems that the 2020 elections just ended and that 2022 is a lifetime away from now.

But if you think that, think again: The GOP is already raising millions to defeat Democrats in 2022.

The latest figures paint a foreboding picture. Senate Republicans are beginning the 2022 elections with "a fundraising advantage over Democrats."2 In fact, while the National Republican Senatorial Committee has $5.4 million in its coffers, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is more than $10 million in debt.3

And that's just the beginning. Marco Rubio has already amassed a $3 million war chest to win re-election, and we know that conservative billionaires will stop at nothing to ensure their Republican cronies are back in power.4

Make no mistake: The GOP is prepared to shovel tens of millions into attack ads and smear campaigns against Democrats—all to reinstall Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader. Which means we need to fight back. And that starts RIGHT NOW.

Will you chip in $5 a month to fight back against the GOP's dark money, win in 2022, and ensure Mitch McConnell doesn't control the Senate?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We have our work cut out for us in the 2022 elections. We not only need to oust the seditionists in order to defend democracy, we also need to protect Democrats in swing states and districts who are up for re-election, and are likely to face difficult races in states where Republicans are planning to gerrymander districts in their favor.

Already, the GOP has said it "will put a heavy focus" on attacking and defeating Senator Raphael Warnock in Georgia and Senator Mark Kelly in Arizona in 2022, who both have to run again even though they were just elected.5 MoveOn members like you played a pivotal role in flipping Georgia and Arizona blue last year, and now the GOP wants revenge. But if we all do our part, we won't let them take away our Democratic majority in the Senate.

But it's not just in the Senate that we have work to do. Right now, Democrats hold the slimmest majority in modern history in the House.6 And the GOP just announced it is targeting a whopping 47 House Democrats in swing districts.7

And just days ago, Trump vowed to do everything he could to help Republicans win back the House in 2022.8

If it wasn't clear enough, the 2022 elections will be a defining moment for our nation. Will the white nationalists and fascists succeed in controlling our government, or will our nation choose the path of democracy?

The GOP has made their choice, and they chose lies, conspiracy, and a dictatorial cult of personality. We know Trump's sham acquittal is disappointing. But this is no time for despair. It's time to fight back.

Will you take action by chipping in $5 a month to fuel our efforts to win in 2022, defeat the GOP, and protect democracy? Your early investment makes all the difference.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Re: Sign this petition re: Louis DeJoy and the USPS

DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration. Sign the petition to hold him accountable. DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration

Mar—News broke early Friday evening that DeJoy plans to slow mail delivery even more by scaling back first-class mail, and he plans to raise postage rates significantly.1 The impact of these changes on vital services would be huge: Bills and correspondence would be delayed even more than they have been, at a time while we're already seeing wide-scale delays in medication and package deliveries. Will you sign the petition calling for new bosses to be appointed who can fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is a Trump enabler who currently manages the day-to-day operations of the USPS. DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration, and the post office could be stuck with him if we don't act now.

Sign now: Urge President Joe Biden and the Senate to immediately fill the vacancies on the Postal Board of Governors with appointees who will hold Louis DeJoy accountable for the damage he's done.

The United States Postal Service is a public good. They deliver to every address regardless of location, which is important, especially for people who live somewhere rural or hard to access. They deliver essential, lifesaving prescription medication and have continued to deliver important packages for small businesses and families alike. They are the backbone of our democracy, especially during this pandemic, when they delivered over 100 million ballots for the 2020 election. The USPS keeps our society going and has been the truest of essential services.

Despite all of this, Louis DeJoy deliberately sabotaged the functioning of the USPS by eliminating overtime pay, reducing retail hours, closing and consolidating post office locations, removing mail-sorting machines before the election, and implementing tactics to slow down delivery speeds.2 These delays disproportionately targeted communities of color, which added insult to injury after decades of voter suppression against Black and non-Black communities of color.3

The board of governors oversees the activities of the Postal Service. They can hire and fire the postmaster general, review all practices of the USPS, and along with the Postal Regulatory Commission, set policies for the Postal Service. The board currently has a Republican majority, but only because there are three empty Democratic seats.

DeJoy was selected by Donald Trump to sabotage the post office in order to privatize it, but we can stop him. The board of governors can hold DeJoy accountable for carrying out Trump's wishes of strategically dismantling the functioning of post offices across the country. The board can and must set a new direction for the post office, and we can ensure this happens by filling the vacancies on its board of governors.

Pressure from people like you and me works. This summer, a coalition formed to come to the defense of the post office, and we saw over 1,100 events at local post offices across the country. Both the House and the Senate called DeJoy to testify about the service cuts in August.4 Federal Court Judge Stanley Bastian called DeJoy's changes "a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service."5 After public outcry, our advocacy, and multiple lawsuits, DeJoy was pressured into reversing all slowdown changes before Election Day. But DeJoy immediately began reinstating those changes on November 4. Our advocacy and pressure must continue.

DeJoy has said that he's working on a 10-year plan for the post office that will come out soon, and we can expect it to feature more attacks against Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and rural communities; more price hikes and service cuts; and other measures to carry out Trump's OMB report calling for the post office to be privatized and sold for parts. He's already announced plans to cut service to Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.6

The stakes couldn't be higher: We saw the effects of Louis DeJoy's pet project to slow down the mail, jack up prices, and privatize the post office in the middle of a pandemic that is decimating the postal workforce. 20,000 postal workers either tested positive for COVID-19 or were quarantining due to exposure leading up to the holidays. Postal workers were pushed to their breaking point, working double shifts to deliver our packages. The volume increase was entirely predictable, and DeJoy did not plan for it.

If we don't stop Louis DeJoy now, a national treasure will be lost. That's why President Biden and the Senate must fill the empty seats on the Postal Board of Governors with pro-post office members who will prioritize the mandate of the USPS to serve all of us and will stop DeJoy's ideological project to kill the agency in its tracks.

Add your name to demand that these seats be filled by people who will finally hold Louis Dejoy accountable.

Thanks!

Stephanie Apollon, Save the Post Office Coalition

And just days ago, Trump vowed to do everything he could to help Republicans win back the House in 2022.8

If it wasn't clear enough, the 2022 elections will be a defining moment for our nation. Will the white nationalists and fascists succeed in controlling our government, or will our nation choose the path of democracy?

The GOP has made their choice, and they chose lies, conspiracy, and a dictatorial cult of personality. We know Trump's sham acquittal is disappointing. But today is no time for despair.
