A new year

I am honored to make change with this vibrant, beautiful, diverse community called MoveOn.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Saturday morning the networks finally called the election and announced Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would be the next president and vice president, I burst into tears. We defeated an incumbent president and a wannabe authoritarian, even though the deck was stacked against us with an anti-democratic Electoral College and more. We navigated massive voter suppression and a global pandemic, and despite it all, an overwhelming 81 million of us showed up at the polls to boot Donald Trump out of office and lay the foundation for a better future.

This was the culmination of a rough four years. Our communities have been under attack. Our democracy has taken body blows, and our nation's social fabric is hanging by threads. To be honest, I wasn't always sure we'd make it.

It's not just the work we did over the last four months that made it possible. Our election win reflected the work we did together to turn the tide against Trump over the last four years. Millions experienced a political awakening after Trump's election, with unprecedented levels of activism and civic engagement, and it showed in the record-breaking voter turnout numbers in November.

Together over the past four years, we consistently and valiantly showed up, pushed back and spoke out against the hate, greed, corruption, and dishonesty of the now outgoing administration. And we aligned a durable majority of the country alongside us.

  • We joined together at airports all over the country to speak out against the racist and xenophobic Muslim Ban.
  • We protested together for months to stop Trump and Republicans in Congress from ripping up the Affordable Care Act.
  • We showed up with tens of thousands of others for Sunday night Resist & Win organizing  calls, building a strong community ready to act.
  • We volunteered in record numbers in 2018, and together we elected the most diverse U.S. House of Representatives in the history of this country and put an important check on Trump.
  • We demanded that Trump be impeached for his abuse of power and then organized for months to build the support to make it happen.
  • We came together to make the anti-war majority visible and push back against Trump's reckless escalation of tensions with Iran.
  • We took care of one another through a pandemic, offered each other resources, and raised millions for emergency services.
  • We joined in solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives to demand racial justice and an end to the indiscriminate killing of Black people at the hands of law enforcement, and we flanked demands for shifting money from police budgets to investing in community services and mental health. MoveOn members raised millions of dollars for the Movement for Black Lives and the National Bailout Network.
  • This fall, we created one of the country's largest virtual voter turnout operations. Our America for All election campaign engaged more than 900,000 volunteers and included ads and content viewed more than half a billion times.
  • Last but not least, we did all of this while preparing to take action if Trump's flagrant attempts to overturn the election ever materialized as a serious threat. Thank goodness, his attempts have failed, our institutions have held strong, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in on January 20.

If we don't step back every now and then to look at the big picture, it's easy to minimize the significance of what we accomplish when we come together. But the truth is that all of us played an essential role at this treacherous time in American history, and MoveOn members were critical to making this country a better place.

The election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris bought us time, but we are not in the clear. We should celebrate our victory, rest, and restore (and keep fighting in the Georgia runoffs!). But then we need to get back to work. This is no time to get complacent. The election gave us the opportunity to build a country that works for all of us, but it did not guarantee it. The far right and Republicans in Congress who empower extremism remain a threat, and if we don't continue to act and organize and build and protest and demand and call for what we know is possible, we could end up in the same place we were four years ago.

So get some rest, and then let's suit up and come back together to continue the work. Here's what to expect in 2021:

We will organize and push the Biden administration and incoming Congress to fight for all of us and pass bold policies that deliver directly for people. No fake solutions, no bipartisan committees to replace real action, no tinkering around the edges. We need bold and aggressive policies that meet the gravity of the crises at hand. They need us to push them. Without us pushing for green jobs, education debt relief, affordable quality health care for everyone, equitable distribution of the COVID vaccines, and more, they won't feel the pressure to go big.

We must hold Trump and the worst of his entourage accountable, and we must undercut the power of the emboldened far right. The flagrant abuses, the blatant stoking of white nationalism, the personal enrichment at the expense of our country, and the constant attacks on our democracy demand that they not get away scot-free. We must send a message that you can't treat governance as a self-serving capitalistic joy ride and get away with it.

We must continue to win elections and increase our power in the House and Senate. In 2022, the MoveOn community will be essential to electing progressive champions in primaries, keeping and expanding the majority in the House, and securing a durable majority in the Senate.

Just think about it: Everything we fought to protect over the last four years would have been so much harder without the millions of us working together as MoveOn members. The elections we won in 2018 and now in 2020 would have been much less likely. The wins we need in the years ahead won't happen without you, without us, leveraging our collective power for good and for one another.

I am closing out 2020 incredibly grateful for all of you and for what we can accomplish when we act together, and I wish you a Happy New Year and a fresh new start in 2021!

I am honored to make change with this vibrant, beautiful, diverse community called MoveOn.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign this petition re: abuse of workers on palm oil plantations

P&G should address longstanding labor abuses in its palm oil supply chains and ensure workers rights are fully respected.

Content warning: Graphic content below

Dear MoveOn member,

A 16-year-old girl working on palm oil plantations in Indonesia told the Associated Press that her boss took her to a remote part of the estate and suddenly grabbed her arm and started pawing her breasts, throwing her to the jungle floor. Then he held the ax to her throat, spit on her, and raped her. "He threatened to kill me," she said softly. "He threatened to kill my whole family."1

This story is just one of many in which women working on palm oil plantations are enduring horrific working conditions—from working without pay to exposure to toxic pesticides to rape. And Procter & Gamble, like many other beauty brands has dirty hands as it sources from producers that exploit workers through human trafficking and forced labor. Rainforest Action Network (RAN) investigations found that labor abuses regularly occur even on plantations that supply mills bearing the GreenPalm stamp for sustainable palm oil.

Sign the petition demanding Procter & Gamble urgently address human rights abuses.

Procter & Gamble continues to fuel deforestation and human rights abuses through its supply chains despite pledges to end deforestation, climate emissions and human rights abuses.

P&G should address longstanding labor abuses in its palm oil supply chains and ensure workers rights are fully respected.

Procter & Gamble puts palm oil and its derivatives in everything from their Gillette shave gel to Pantene shampoo and Oil of Olay face cream.

Procter & Gamble says it is committed to respecting labor rights and it will not use forced labor in its palm oil supply chain, but its biggest palm oil supplier has been repeatedly exposed for using forced labor for more than five years. Even the U.S. government is blocking shipments from that exact company for this reason!

If we expose a global giant like Procter & Gamble and make them shift big-time, it will send ripple effects through the industry, and others will follow suit.

Click here to sign the petition calling on Procter & Gamble to end workers abuses on palm oil plantations.

Thanks!

A sense of relief

MoveOn members start and sign petitions every day. Learn more about how these people-powered petitions make an impact and how to start your own campaign.

Dear MoveOn member,

I am a Muslim, immigrant, Pakistani American woman, and I felt such a profound and deep relief for myself, my family, my community, this country, and the entire world when the election results were called on November 7, 2020. I felt my body relax, as if I could finally breathe more deeply. I was awash in emotion.

I felt a deep relief because it felt as if all the work that we had done for four years had finally paid off.

I felt a sense of respite for all the communities that would feel a bit safer under a Biden presidency.

I felt a sense of gratitude wash over me for all the people who voted despite so many hurdles during this difficult and arduous year.

I felt a sense of pride because I could look at my immigrant parents and know that I fought for them and their sacrifices.

And I felt a sense of possibility because I could finally dream and imagine the world that we can create together, instead of feeling that all we could do was reduce the harm to the communities I care about and belong to.

These past four years have been tough, and we all saw the joy of so many as they danced in the streets that day. It was a deep exhalation of relief and a renewed sense of possibility.

And so we must rest and relax for a bit, and also we must know that we can work together and build the world that we want. That work is far from over.

Will you continue this work that we've started and fight for what you want this world to be? Start a petition demanding the world that you want to see. This is our time. This is what we have been fighting for.

Start a petition and advocate for Medicare for All, for the Green New Deal, for a $15 national minimum wage. Organize your community to get more school funding, pass sanctuary policies to protect immigrants, or hold the police department accountable. This is our time to set the agenda for the next four years and rebuild this country after what has been a tumultuous and difficult time for so many.

We can dream again, we can take a deep sigh of relief, and we can show up and build a world that is equitable, just, and focused on those who need that world the most.

Let's dream and build that world together.

Take five minutes and start a petition on here to influence the direction of your community and country.

Thanks for all you do.

Petitions

Before our members organize for 2021, I want us to take stock of the incredible work MoveOn members have done together and the energy we are taking into the new year.

Dear MoveOn member,

In 2020, MoveOn saw the most public engagement on our petition platform in our history, because our members and partner organizations decided to create compelling petition campaigns that grabbed CNN headlines, changed the narrative around issues like racial justice and climate change, and fought for economic justice during the time of COVID-19.

Take a look at this video featuring some of the amazing work that members across the country have done on the petition platform this year.

Here are just some of the petitions that MoveOn members took action on this year that impacted their communities and our country:

  • MoveOn members organized around racial justice and the Movement for Black Lives:

    • Color of Change partnered with us to support the Black Lives Matter movement by demanding justice for George Floyd (over 500,000 signatures), justice for Breonna Taylor (close to 900,000 signatures), and justice for Ahmaud Arbery (over 155,000 signatures).
    • The Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project partnered with MoveOn and launched a petition to protect sacred lands for the Wampanoag Tribe
    • MoveOn organized with Color of Change and Police Unions Exposed to confront the systemic racism rampant in police departments and dismantle the power of police unions in this country by demanding that Bob Kroll, the race-baiting union leader for the Minneapolis Police Department, be fired and that elected officials cut ties with the Fraternal Order of Police, an organization that has increasingly become an arm of right-wing politics and an obstacle to meaningful police reform.

  • MoveOn members fought for COVID-19 relief:

    • Dr. Jan Crean started a petition demanding that all COVID-19 data continue to be aggregated at the CDC—when Trump tried to hide the true impact of this pandemic—and organized other health care professionals to put pressure on decision-makers.
    • Freedom Forward organized to demand that the Trump administration restore full funding to the World Health Organization, and now, the incoming Biden administration has committed to rejoining the World Health Organization
    • MoveOn worked with Senator Elizabeth Warren to ensure that essential workers in this country have access to personal protective equipment. The signatures for the petition were delivered to Congress in support of the Essential Workers Bill of Rights along with a coalition of organizations.
    • MoveOn member Dr. Charles Goodman started a petition demanding that every state have a stay-home order early in the pandemic.

  • MoveOn members used this moment to advocate for economic justice:

  • MoveOn members showed up to push for action on climate change:

  • MoveOn members protected our institutions against Trump's attacks:

    • MoveOn member Patrick Chaffeur started a petition to the board of governors of the United States Postal Service, demanding the removal of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, after Trump threatened to defund the USPS (almost 1 million signatures). Not only that, MoveOn members showed up to actions in support of the USPS throughout the country.
    • MoveOn started a petition after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to demand that the Senate refuse to seat a new Supreme Court justice until after the 2021 inauguration. Nearly 1.5 million people signed this petition, and we delivered it to the Senate in efforts to block the rushed confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett.
    • MoveOn partnered with Common Cause to stand with Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who courageously testified in the House impeachment inquiry and was thus pushed out of the National Security Council.
    • Diane Yoder, teacher from Wisconsin and MoveOn member, started a petition after the 2020 election, demanding that GSA Administrator Emily Murphy recognize President-elect Joe Biden. CNN picked up the story and featured the petition delivery in one of their segments, and under pressure from the public, Murphy released the funds for the Biden transition.

These are just some of the issues that MoveOn, our members, and partner organizations have worked on over the past year. Not to mention our campaign with MoveOn member and celebrity Jon Stewart and 9/11 first responder John Feal demanding that Congress stop ignoring veterans who are sick and dying from toxic burn pits.

There are so many other local, statewide, and national issues that members have organized on, and it's truly inspiring.

And MoveOn members are just getting started. The energy that we've seen in 2020 is building momentum for meaningful and long-term systemic change under the Biden administration.

Will you join us in 2021 as MoveOn and our members work on COVID-19 relief, free and equitable access to the coronavirus vaccine, economic and racial justice, and the fight for a clean and sustainable planet? You can also start a petition and organize on an issue that is important to you.

We have no choice but to organize, and the MoveOn petition platform is here to give you a vital, free tool in making your voice heard.

Thanks for all you do.

I just checked the polls, and I'm coming to you with a personal request

I just read that Wall Street executives are planning to spend a whopping $80 million in Georgia to elect Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue and keep Mitch McConnell in power.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I just read that Wall Street executives are planning to spend a whopping $80 million in Georgia to elect Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue and keep Mitch McConnell in power.1

According to new campaign finance documents, Steven Schwarzman, a Wall Street CEO and close Trump confidant, just forked over $15 million to a McConnell-aligned Super PAC, and billionaire hedge fund manager Kenneth Griffin also wired $10 million—all to be spent in Georgia.2

Mar, let's be clear about why Wall Street titans are dumping so much money into the Georgia races: It's because they're terrified. They know that, just last month, we flipped Georgia blue and that we're on the brink of doing so again—and they know that this time, we'll also rip the Senate gavel away from their favorite lapdog: Mitch McConnell.

The races are down to the wire. For Democrats to win, grassroots groups on the ground as well as national powerhouses like MoveOn are doing everything they can to energize the Democratic base and win over independent voters. Right now, MoveOn is

  • flooding Georgia's airwaves with television and radio ads to drum up support and enthusiasm for Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff,

  • blanketing Atlanta with billboards that get the truth out to voters about Loeffler and Perdue's corrupt records and ties to shady Wall Street deals, and

  • engaging 55,000 MoveOn members in an ambitious and innovative get-out-the-vote campaign.

MoveOn needs your help. Will you chip in $5 a month to MoveOn to ensure that they have the resources they need to beat back Wall Street, get out the vote, win in Georgia, and use that control of the House, Senate, and White House to finally move our country forward?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

As the runoff elections in Georgia show, Wall Street and other Big Money interests continue to corrupt American politics—creating a vicious cycle that funnels more wealth and power to those at the top and erodes our democracy.

Here's how that vicious cycle works: Republicans cut taxes and slash regulations for their wealthy campaign donors. Megadonors and corporations funnel some of that money back into our political system to keep their lackeys in power. Those Republican politicians then propose another round of tax cuts, subsidies, or bailouts to secure even more donations.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

We must put an end to this corruption, and that starts by winning in Georgia. While Kelly Loeffler—herself a former Wall Street CEO—and David Perdue—a shady corporate executive—are bankrolled by Big Money, Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff have pledged to reject every cent of corporate PAC money. Which means that it's going to be up to grassroots activists like you to propel Warnock and Ossoff to victory.

I just checked the polls, and both runoff races are neck and neck.3 In races this close, every ad, every billboard, and every dollar could make all the difference and open the door to the passage of real reform in a Democratically controlled Senate. So I'm coming to you with a personal request.

Given MoveOn's exceptionally impressive track record of success using cutting-edge strategies to get out the vote, win elections, and secure legislative victories, they're well equipped to take on Big Money—at the voting booth and in the halls of Congress. But they need your help. Will you chip in $5 a month to ensure they have the resources to get out the vote, win in Georgia, and flex their muscles to make big, systemic changes in the new Congress?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

If they win, Democrats will control the Senate

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

This is Debra Messing. You may know me as Grace in "Will & Grace" or from other TV shows like "Smash" and "The Mysteries of Laura." I'm an actor, and I'm also a proud progressive who is not afraid to stand up for what I believe in.

I celebrated the election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our next president and vice president as a historic moment and opportunity for progress. Voters in Georgia played a critical role in that victory by turning the state blue for the first time in 28 years. Now we must build on this momentum by electing Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. This would flip the Senate so Democrats can pass legislation that expands health care, secures our right to vote, and provides comprehensive COVID relief.

Here's the problem: Republicans from around the country are flooding the state with even more money to spread propaganda designed to keep Mitch McConnell in control of the Senate.

They have big money, but we have people power.

In Georgia, over 55,000 MoveOn members supported and reminded their friends to vote for Biden and Harris last month. Because Biden won by under 13,000 votes, there is good reason to believe that MoveOn members made the difference for Biden in Georgia.

Now, imagine the impact we could have if we mobilized those 55,000 people in Georgia to turn out their three friends again? It would be HUGE.

That is the strategy—to mobilize those 55,000 MoveOn members to turn out three of their friends again, this time for Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff, and to recruit even more mobilizers. You are central to that strategy.

Will you volunteer to call other MoveOn members to encourage them to turn out their friends to vote?

Sign up right now at http://act.moveon.org/go/6346?t=14&akid=286527%2E10220574%2E0P6aD0

The way we win is by calling our fellow MoveOn Members to ask them to turn out their friends again. We say, "Hey, you said you would remind Chris, Dom, and Kate to vote. Have you checked in with them? Have they voted early?"

These calls are essential (and they are also super friendly and a lot of fun!).

Sign up right now! Here's the link: http://act.moveon.org/go/6346?t=16&akid=286527%2E10220574%2E0P6aD0

Thanks for all you do,

Despicable: GOP voter suppression in Georgia

Early voting just started in Georgia, and already the GOP is despicably trying to suppress the vote in order to keep Mitch McConnell in power.

Dear MoveOn member,

Early voting just started in Georgia, and already the GOP is despicably trying to suppress the vote in order to keep Mitch McConnell in power.

Right-wing politicians drastically cut the number of early voting locations in four of Georgia's biggest counties, threatening the rights of voters—especially voters of color—and potentially handing a devastating advantage to Republicans Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue.1

With both Senate races neck and neck, we know the outcome will come down to only a handful of votes, meaning the GOP's voter suppression strategy could swing the elections and hand McConnell control of the Senate for years to come.

We simply CANNOT let this happen. Which is why MoveOn members are springing into action: 55,000 MoveOn members in Georgia have pledged to reach out to three friends, help them make a plan to vote, and ensure they cast their ballot on or before January 5. We tested this innovative friend-to-friend voter mobilization program earlier this year and then deployed it in the general election, and we know that it's up to FIVE times more effective than traditional phone banking and canvassing.

But we need your help to have the resources we need to get out the vote in Georgia, win both seats, send McConnell packing, and then fight for progressive change under a Democratic congress and Democratic president. Will you chip in monthly to get out the vote, win in Georgia, and keep up the fight in 2021?

Yes, I'll chip in.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Mar, if MoveOn's 55,000 voter mobilization volunteers in Georgia each reach out to three friends, we could mobilize 165,000 voters to the polls. Here's why that's so important: Last month, Joe Biden defeated Donald Trump in Georgia by just 12,000 votes, meaning our innovative friend-to-friend program could be the antidote to the GOP's voter suppression scheme and could swing the election in our favor.2

If we are successful, for the first time in more than a decade, Democrats would control the presidency and both houses of Congress—giving us a rare but critical opportunity to pass a bold coronavirus relief bill, legislation to combat the climate crisis, reforms to policing, and policies that build back our economy in a way that works for everyone and not just the wealthy few.

But if we lose even one of the seats in Georgia, McConnell will remain in control of the Senate and will block Democratic legislation at every turn. Just imagine the headlines.

"McConnell blocks Democratic COVID stimulus bill. No extension in unemployment insurance."

"House Democrats pass public option. McConnell says Senate will not vote on the measure."

"House passes bill to increase minimum wage, but Senate Republicans refuse to consider it."

"McConnell blocks popular bill to reform U.S. policing."

"McConnell: Democratic climate change bill dead on arrival."

With all of that and more on the line in Georgia, will you start a monthly donation right now to win in Georgia, flip the Senate, and ensure that we can pass everything above and more in 2021?

Yes, I'll chip in.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Undo the cruelty of the Trump administration (sign the petition)

Sign the petition to support the We Are Home coalition's campaign to fix the broken immigration system.

Dear MoveOn member,

Over the past four years, Americans watched as Donald Trump used fear and racism to divide our country and expand the inhumane immigration detention system, separate migrant children from their parents, and deprive refugees seeking asylum of their freedoms.

In 2020, our multiracial, multi-ethnic, multigenerational majority chose a new America. As we recover from the cruelty of the Trump administration and the health and economic crises of COVID-19, it is critical that we build a nation where home is truly here and safe for all.

Add your name calling on the Biden-Harris administration and every member of Congress to take immediate action to protect immigrants who call this country home.

In the first 100 days, we urge the new administration to undo the harmful policies Donald Trump put in place that have inflicted cruelty and pain on immigrant communities; to impose a moratorium on deportations, new arrests, and detentions; and to work with Congress on legislation that creates a roadmap to citizenship.

In order to transform our nation's immigration system, the new administration must take these steps:

1) Undo the cruelty of the Trump administration. Starting on day one, the Biden-Harris administration must dismantle the punishing policies of the Trump administration, starting with a moratorium on deportations, new arrests and detentions. Trump and his cronies weaponized an already merciless immigration system with 900 executive actions that inflict pain and terror on immigrant communities and stained our moral fiber.

2) Create a roadmap to citizenship. Millions of undocumented immigrants live, work, and contribute to the United States every day and call this country home. Congress must immediately work on legislation in the first 100 days of the Biden-Harris administration that creates a roadmap to citizenship for every immigrant who calls this country home. It is long overdue and is supported by an overwhelming number of Americans from all walks of life.

3) Build a new immigration system that is fair, humane, and functional. The Biden-Harris administration needs to transform DHS, CBP, ICE, and the other parts of our federal immigration system into a just system that sees immigrants as full human beings, treats immigrants fairly, unites families, and welcomes immigrants as new Americans.

Add your name to tell the Biden-Harris administration to build a country where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential, no matter their race, birthplace, age, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

It is time that we make the United States a place where "We the People" includes all of us.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you.

Can we send you a free sticker?

MoveOn has printed a big batch of "We Dumped Trump" stickers, and we're giving them away for free while supplies last!

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday, despite Donald Trump's five-week-long temper tantrum, Rudy Giuliani's baseless lies, and the complicity of the Republican Party, the Electoral College officially certified that on January 20, Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States!1

Trump and his campaign filed at least 59 pathetic lawsuits to try to overturn the results, all but one of which have been thrown out—including cases before the Supreme Court, which he has packed with conservative justices.2

It's over. He may continue to spew conspiracy theories on Twitter, but it does not change the facts: Trump lost. We defeated him. And in just 36 days, he will no longer live in the White House.

To celebrate this hard-fought and momentous win, MoveOn has printed a big batch of "We Dumped Trump" stickers, and we're giving them away for free while supplies last!

Just click here or on the image below to order your sticker now.

Even after he lost at the ballot box, Trump tried everything to undermine the will of the people, and although he lost (over and over again) in the courts, he did succeed in getting Republican elected officials to fall in line behind him and support his ludicrous attempts to dismantle our democracy.

Which means that even with Trump's presidency finally over, our work is not yet done. Just like we dumped Trump, we now need to turn our sights toward the members of Congress who clung to him and the state and local officials attempting to emulate him. We've got to dump them, too.

MoveOn is ready to lead the next fight. Will you celebrate our collective victory and show that you are ready to fight alongside us in the months and years to come, Mar?

Click here to get your free "We Dumped Trump" sticker now, while supplies last!

Thanks for all you do.

Here's how I'm taking on Donald Trump, Ben Shapiro, and Franklin Graham

I have big plans to produce viral videos and other content to expose the far right's lies and to educate the public about wealth inequality, racial injustice, health care reform, and more—but I'm going to need your help to bring my ambitious plans to life.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

In the past 24 hours, eight of the top ten most popular posts on Facebook were created by far-right extremists—including Donald Trump, Ben Shapiro, and Franklin Graham.1

Every single day, these far-right figures are spreading radical right-wing conspiracy theories to tens of millions of Americans and are poisoning our news feeds with dangerous misinformation that is eroding our democracy.

Which is why Inequality Media—the progressive nonprofit I founded that counters the right wing's lies with clear, factual, and engaging viral videos and other content—has never been more important.

Inequality Media is one of the only progressive groups with a large enough following to match the biggest right-wing propagandists. Just look at our numbers: Our videos and posts are shared seven times more than Sean Hannity's, our Facebook page receives 15 times more engagement per post than Ben Shapiro, and our videos have been viewed more than 440 million times.

With anti-maskers spreading conspiracy theories as the pandemic rages on and with much of the GOP trying to undermine the election results and steal the presidency, combating the spread of misinformation has never been more critical—but we need your help.

Will you rush a tax-deductible donation of $3 to Inequality Media right now to help us produce cutting-edge viral videos and other content to counter the right and get the truth out to the public?

Mar, as we leave the Trump administration in the trash heap of history and head into a Joe Biden presidency, we all know that the far right will ramp up their efforts to misinform the public and smear popular progressive reforms.

Just look at what the far right is doing right now. Despite the fact that the election results are crystal clear, right-wing extremists in Congress just rejected a resolution recognizing Joe Biden as president-elect.2

But they won't stop there. Over the next weeks, months, and years, right-wing extremists will fight with everything they have to tank our progressive agenda.

The far-right fearmongers will call demanding health care and housing during a public health and economic crisis "socialism."

They'll wage an all-out war against canceling student debt.

They'll spread vicious lies to try to stop us from treating immigrants with dignity and respect.

They'll spend tens of millions of dollars in deceptive attack ads to try to vilify our efforts to address police violence and protect our environment.

They'll peddle lies that taxing the rich will stifle innovation.

They'll say that stopping catastrophic climate change will bankrupt the economy.

Which means we need to fight back harder than ever. I have big plans to produce viral videos and other content to expose the far right's lies and to educate the public about wealth inequality, racial injustice, health care reform, and more—but I'm going to need your help to bring my ambitious plans to life.

Will you chip in $3 to help create the hard-hitting viral content the progressive movement needs to counter the far right and advance our agenda? 100% of your donation is tax-deductible and will go to this critical mission.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

NEW: Senate polls in Georgia are neck and neck

Jon Ossoff leads David Perdue by less than one percentage point, and Rev. Raphael Warnock leads Kelly Loeffler by just 2.2%

Dear MoveOn member,

With fewer than four weeks to go in the Georgia runoff elections that will decide control of the Senate, the newly updated FiveThirtyEight polling average has both races on a knife's edge.1

Jon Ossoff leads David Perdue by less than one percentage point, and Rev. Raphael Warnock leads Kelly Loeffler by just 2.2%.2 We are within striking distance of winning these races and flipping the Senate blue—but just like November's general election, everything will be decided by turnout.

Which is why Donald Trump's campaign rally in Georgia this past weekend was so troubling. Despite losing re-election, Trump still has a massive, loyal following, and his personal involvement in the Georgia races will undoubtedly drive up enthusiasm among his far-right base. In fact, the Associated Press calls Trump "the GOP's biggest turnout driver."3

We simply can't sit back as Trump gins up his base and drives up GOP turnout.

That's why MoveOn is mounting an ambitious television and radio ad campaign to energize the Democratic base and persuade independent voters. But we're not stopping there: We're also launching a bold effort to blanket crucially important parts of Atlanta with billboards to ensure that Georgia voters know how corrupt and cruel Loeffler and Perdue have been before they head to the polls.

With only 26 days left in the election and the races in a dead heat, will you chip in $5 a month to get TV ads on the air, put up billboards, keep them up to power Democrats Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to victory, and enable us to keep up the fight in 2021?

Yes, I'll chip in.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks to the leadership of Black women, Black activists, and local organizers, the state of Georgia is transforming, voters are more engaged than ever, our democratic systems are being held accountable, and our hopes of turning Georgia blue in January are within reach. Mar, thanks to these organizers, we defeated Trump just one month ago.

Now, we have to do it again.

If Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff both win, Democrats will flip the Senate and end Mitch McConnell's despicable reign as Senate majority leader. Which means that for the first time in a decade, Democrats will control the House, the Senate, and the presidency—giving us a rare but critical opportunity to enact bold, progressive legislation to tackle the climate crisis, rebuild our economy, address the pandemic head-on, advance racial justice, and much more.

But if we fail to win both Georgia Senate seats on January 5, President-elect Biden will be the first Democratic president since 1885 to take office with his party not in control of both chambers of Congress.4

That's why MoveOn is going all-in to win in Georgia. We have an ambitious plan to run a huge TV, radio, and billboard ad campaign to get out the vote.

But we need your help to fully bring these plans to life. Will you chip in $5 a month to help us get on the air, win in Georgia, flip the Senate blue, and head into 2021 strong and able to fight for progressive change with Joe Biden in the White House?

Yes, I'll chip in.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We know both of these races are neck and neck. The polls are in a dead heat. And we know that these elections could be decided by only a handful of votes.

In races this close, every single ad, every single phone call, and every single dollar can make a world of difference.

Will you rush a $5 monthly donation to win in Georgia, flip the Senate, and fight for progressive change in 2021?

Yes, I'll chip in.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign this petition re: my sister's execution

Add your name to show your support. Sign this petition demanding that Donald Trump and the Department of Justice grant a stay of execution for Lisa Montgomery.

Content warning: family abuse, sexual trauma/assault, mental illness, and domestic abuse

Dear MoveOn member,

Without action from President Donald Trump, my sister, Lisa Montgomery, will be executed on January 12, 2021.

Sign the petition to save her life and demand Trump provides a stay of execution.

We have only a matter of weeks to save Lisa's life. Lisa Montgomery—a mentally ill woman who was the victim of gang rapes, child sex trafficking, and domestic violence—was sentenced to death by a jury that never learned the full extent of the sexual violence and physical abuse Lisa endured.1 As a result of her trauma, Lisa is now so unstable that she must take a complex cocktail of medications to prevent full-blown psychosis.

The story of Lisa's life is worse than a nightmare. She was born with permanent brain damage caused by her mother's drinking during pregnancy. A child of extreme poverty, she was also repeatedly raped by her stepfather in the private room he built for her. Lisa was routinely beaten and terrorized by her mother. Lisa's mother trafficked her to men who were allowed to rape Lisa in exchange for utilities and other services. Although this abuse was suspected or known by teachers, a police officer, and a judge, nobody intervened to protect Lisa.2

When I was a child, the Department of Social Services removed me from our home. But they left Lisa behind to be tortured by her mother and stepfather. Sign this petition to save her life.

Sign this petition demanding that Donald Trump and the Department of Justice grant a stay of execution for Lisa Montgomery.

Lisa's nightmare continued when Lisa married her stepbrother at the urging of her mother at the age of 18. He continued the cycle of abuse, raping and beating her. Not surprisingly, this lifetime of torture exacerbated Lisa's genetic predisposition to mental illness, and it caused her to develop a dissociative disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder. She often cannot tell what is real and what is not. She suffers from flashbacks where she relives her rapes.

Before her arrest, Lisa never received treatment for her mental illness, and her symptoms worsened over time. In 2004, in the grip of a psychotic episode, Lisa killed a pregnant woman and took her baby.3,4 Lisa can never undo her crime, but she took responsibility for it and offered to plead guilty and spend her life in prison. The prosecutor rejected this offer and sought the death penalty.

The lifetime of rape and sexual torture that Lisa endured is not an "abuse excuse," as the prosecutor argued at her trial. Her history of abuse helps to explain the depth of her disabilities. Yet the jury never had the chance to consider how her history of devastating trauma has impaired her daily functioning. Courts have rejected Lisa's claims for relief, and her case now rests in the hands of the President.

I am asking President Trump to consider the evidence the jury never heard and to spare her life. Spending the rest of her life in prison is more than adequate punishment for this crime, given Lisa's traumatic history and mental illness.

Will you please help me save my sister's life? Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks,

—Diane Mattingly, Lisa Montgomery's sister
