The White House whistleblower

The whistleblower needs to cover their legal fees and may need personal security for months or even years to come.

Dear MoveOn member,

The whistleblower who alerted federal officials about Donald Trump's call with the president of Ukraine needs our help.

Intelligence whistleblowers risk losing their jobs and even facing criminal prosecution.1

And Trump's Department of Justice tried to deny this whistleblower, an intelligence officer, legal protections. What's more, Trump is now suggesting the person should be killed, putting their life in danger if their identity is ever revealed.2

The whistleblower needs to cover their legal fees and may need personal security for months or even years to come.

That's why MoveOn is partnering with Whistleblower Aid, a nonprofit, non-partisan legal organization that helps brave government employees report and publicize wrongdoing in government.3

Will you split a donation of $3 between Whistleblower Aid, which is helping the Trump whistleblower with legal assistance and other support, and MoveOn, which is working to help ensure that whistleblowers are able to make their voices heard?

Yes, I'll chip in to help MoveOn and Whistleblower Aid defend the rights of whistleblowers.

In a September 17, 2019, letter to the House Intelligence Committee, U.S. Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson described the whistleblower's complaint as "credible" and "urgent."4

But Trump is calling the whistleblower's report a "political hack job" and suggested the whistleblower's sources are spies who committed treason.5,6 He said, "You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart with spies and treason, right? We used to handle it a little differently than we do now."7

The stakes could not be higher for the whistleblower, who took a great personal risk to defend our democracy. We need to have the whistleblower's back.

Will you chip in $3 to help the Trump whistleblower and to help enable other whistleblowers to come forward? We'll split your donation between Whistleblower Aid and MoveOn.

Yes, I'll donate to help defend whistleblowers.

Protecting whistleblowers is critical for a healthy democracy.

Whistleblower Aid works to protect whistleblowers by providing:

  • Free, non-partisan legal representation for whistleblowers, by an outstanding legal team.
  • State-of-the-art security to make sure whistleblowers are kept safe.
  • Extended support services, including temporary rent or mortgage assistance, counseling, and more.

And MoveOn will work to ensure that whistleblowers are able to make their voices heard, so that wrongdoing and abuses of power continue to be exposed.

Click here donate $3, or whatever you can afford, to help the Trump whistleblower. Your donation will be split between Whistleblower Aid and MoveOn.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign this petition re: banning lion trophies

Sign this petition demanding that Congress approve the CECIL Act and ban the import of lion and elephant trophies to the U.S.

Dear MoveOn member,

For the first time since lions were protected under the Endangered Species Act, the Trump administration has approved a trophy import permit for a threatened lion killed in Tanzania.

Thankfully, the House Natural Resources Committee just approved the Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large Animal Trophies (CECIL) Act to ban U.S. imports of elephant and lion trophies from Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Congress needs to approve the CECIL Act immediately and stop the Trump administration's attacks on our world's wildlife.

Sign this petition demanding that Congress approve the CECIL Act and ban the import of lion and elephant trophies to the U.S.

This import permit bodes ill for wildlife in Tanzania, home to roughly 40% of Africa's lions and up to half of the elephants in eastern Africa.

We need to halt the slaughter of Tanzania's wildlife before it begins—and stop wealthy trophy hunters from killing them for sport.

Keep up the momentum to #ImpeachNow

This is our chance to keep up the pressure and ensure Democrats keep moving swiftly on impeachment.

Dear MoveOn member,

Impeachment.

That word is finally being said loud and clear across the halls of Congress, in media across the country, and by voters everywhere—and now a majority of the House of Representatives supports this impeachment inquiry, including your member of Congress, Representative Gregory W. Meeks, who was part of the flood of support for impeachment this past week.

Now, Congress is home for recess, and it's an opportunity to thank Rep. Meeks—and to also make sure he knows that constituents expect him to keep supporting a robust, transparent, unhindered inquiry that leads to a vote on actual articles of impeachment and the impeachment of Donald Trump.

Can you host an event in your area over this congressional recess—between now and October 14—to send a clear message to Rep. Meeks that we thank him for speaking up for impeachment, and now expect him to stay committed to impeachment because nobody is above the law.

If you can host an event, click here to sign up—or check out this map of events to see if there are opportunities near you. MoveOn is partnering with Indivisible, Stand Up America, By the People, Women's March, and more on Impeach Now actions throughout the recess, and we hope you'll be involved!

Just yesterday, MoveOn led a coalition of 30 progressive groups to hold an action at the Capitol, where we were joined by leading members of Congress to demand impeachment. Organized in 48 hours, this action generated images that have been featured in The New York Times and on national news shows, images that captured the passion for impeachment, firing up members of Congress who need to know that voters are on their side.

Here are a few of the images from the event:

rally photos

Of course, MoveOn members have been in this fight for a long time. We called for impeachment over two years ago, after it was clear that Trump abused his power and sought to obstruct justice by firing FBI Director James Comey over the Russia probe.

Since then, our protests, rallies, relentless calls, persistent social media pressure, original videos seen tens of millions of times, and leadership in the Nobody Is Above the Law coalition helped lay the groundwork for where we are now, making impeachment a possibility.

As a former top aide to Hillary Clinton said in Vanity Fair, "You couldn't have gone from 0 to 60 miles per hour just based on Ukraine ... But roughly 150 members had already come out for impeachment before Ukraine. If groups like MoveOn and Indivisible hadn't built that foundation, you'd be starting from scratch trying to get freshmen from swing districts, and it would have been much harder."

And that's why we're building on this work—to deliver thanks and continued vigilance and pressure to members of Congress over this recess. Please click here to step up and host an event near you—and we'll help recruit people to join you in delivering a message to Rep. Meeks.

Now isn't the time to hit the brakes. It's time to hit the gas.

  • First, we need to keep up momentum through the recess—thanking Democrats who have stepped up and demanding they stand strong, pressuring holdouts, and turning up pressure on Republicans.
  • Then, we need to defend the impeachment process from the right-wing echo chamber and amplify its findings—to ensure impeachment is supported by more and more of the American public.
  • And we need to begin to build the case for Republicans in the Senate to support impeachment—or be held accountable for aiding and protecting a criminal in the White House.

This is a lot of work—but we've been in this fight together for years. And if it takes six months to move through an impeachment trial—or 14 months to bring this criminality and corruption all the way to the election—we will confront and defeat Donald Trump, together.

Join us by hosting or joining an Impeach Now event during this congressional recess—and keep this momentum going.

Thanks for all you do,

Sign this petition re: impeachment

In the United States, no one is above the law. Congress must begin impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump immediately for his abuse of power and violation of public trust.

Dear MoveOn member,

House Leader Nancy Pelosi has officially announced that she will be opening an impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump. This is after a report came out stating that, in order to pressure Ukraine's president to help Trump's re-election, Donald Trump withheld nearly $400 million in aid that Congress had appropriated to Ukraine.1 A partial summary of a phone call was released by the White House this morning, confirming Trump's attempt to seek foreign assistance in his political campaign by smearing a political rival. He even encouraged the Ukrainian president to work with both the U.S. government's attorney general and Trump's personal attorney.2 This is an egregious and obvious abuse of power—and only the latest in a long line of impeachable offenses and abuses by Trump. Now is a critical moment where Congress can step up and hold a sitting president accountable for abusing his role for personal gain.

Our nation's founders made sure that the Constitution contained a check on a president who abused power and broke the law, and it is time for all of Congress to fulfill their constitutional duty.

Sign this petition demanding that Congress impeach Trump!

In the United States, no one is above the law. Congress must impeach Trump immediately for his abuse of power and violation of public trust.

Donald Trump and those around him have sought to undermine the institutions of our democracy in ways we've never seen before. His dealings with Ukraine and manipulation of foreign relations for his own personal interests are just the most recent examples of his abuse of power.

The Mueller Report and Robert Mueller's testimony confirmed that Trump has not been exonerated and that there are open matters of obstruction of justice that only Congress can pursue. Michael Cohen has called Trump a "conman," a "racist," and a "cheat." In his testimony in front of the House Oversight Committee, Cohen shared that Trump knew about the hacking of the Democratic National Committee emails and their eventual release by Wikileaks.

We will not treat this as normal. And politicians in Washington must not continue to conduct business as usual. Everyone in Congress must look in the mirror and decide how they will fulfill their oath to defend our Constitution and which side of history they want to be on.

If they fail to do so, millions of MoveOn members across the country will hold them accountable.

Thanks!

Dear MoveOn member,

I am writing to you today because of MoveOn's petition platform. I have been working on the petition platform for almost a year now, and sometimes things happen that remind me why I work on a platform that allows people to share their powerful voices.

I hope you will start your own petition so we can support you.

Most recently, what I saw with MoveOn member Elizabeth Rowin's Obama Avenue petition reminded me that petitions are as exciting as they are powerful.

I saw the petition demanding that New York City change the name of Fifth Avenue in front of the Trump Tower in NYC to "President Barack H. Obama Avenue" on our platform and chuckled. It was a smart and clever way to troll a man who has repeatedly trolled people in this country, as well as spreading racist and xenophobic policies as often as he can.

Apparently, I wasn't the only person who was amused, because over the course of a week, Elizabeth's petition gained traction and began to take off. It was featured in various news media outlets, including CNN, Reuters, USA Today, and Newsweek and the signature count soared to almost 450,000 people. Not only that, the petition led to responses from city council members in NYC. People were paying attention.

I was amazed. Not because this petition did so well, but because it reminded me why I do the work that I do. It reminded me that something as simple as writing a petition can have a deep impact, whether it's a bit cheeky or highlights an issue that is of profound importance.

Mark Hamill retweeted the petition. Stephen Colbert mentioned it on his "Late Show." CNN covered it and interviewed Elizabeth, the petition creator, twice. The petition became a cultural phenomenon and an unconventional way to push back against a horrible administration.

I am in awe, and that's why I am asking you to also step up.

Will you take the lead and join us by starting a petition of your own? Your petition can focus on an issue that is important to you, whether national, statewide, or local. It can be serious. It can be clever. Whatever resonates with you.

From the initial Obama Avenue petition, Elizabeth has taken to organizing in person as well. She coordinated two events in front of Trump Tower that got media attention, gave her a chance to meet dozens of local supporters, and continued the pressure in trolling the sitting president.

Organizing is a powerful tool, and the petition platform is a wonderful and simple way to engage on whatever resonates with you!

Thanks for all you do.

BREAKING: Impeachment is happening

The dam has finally broken. Over the past 24 hours, dozens of members of Congress have announced their support for impeaching Donald Trump, and this afternoon House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally announced the framework of an official impeachment inquiry.

Dear MoveOn member,

The dam has finally broken. Over the past 24 hours, dozens of members of Congress have announced their support for impeaching Donald Trump, and this afternoon House Speaker Nancy Pelosi finally announced the framework of an official impeachment inquiry.1

Here's the problem: Congress is about to go on a two-week recess, and we cannot afford to lose momentum, which means we need to act right now.

MoveOn is launching an emergency fundraising drive right now. We need to raise $250,000 in the next 72 hours to fund a campaign to push so that every single Democrat comes out in support of impeachment by Friday. Eddie, can you rush $3 right now to help us meet our goal?

Yes, I'll make an emergency donation to help MoveOn flood Congress with calls, run ads, pound the pavement in D.C., and do whatever it takes to get Democrats to support impeachment by Friday.

The need to impeach Trump has been clear for a long time—MoveOn called for his impeachment over two years ago—so what has changed over the past few days to open the floodgates? News reports have mounted suggesting that Trump withheld nearly $400 million in congressionally authorized military aid to the nation of Ukraine in an effort to force their government to aid Trump's re-election effort and attack his political opponents.2

The details of Trump's attempted blackmail are so flagrant that they deserve a thorough examination. Here is what we know:

  • Earlier this month, news broke that a whistleblower in the intelligence community had initiated the official process to lodge a complaint they believed met the standard of violating either the law or constitution, and the Intelligence Inspector General agreed that this complaint rose to the level of "credible and urgent," a legal standard that requires the complaint to be given to Congress within 7 days.3
  • Instead of following the law, the acting Director of National Intelligence informed Attorney General William Barr, and together they refused to give any details of the complaint to Congress.4
  • Thanks to dogged reporting, we now know that the information the whistleblower shared was that Donald Trump withheld nearly $400 million in congressionally authorized military aid to Ukraine in an attempt to force their government to investigate sham accusations of wrongdoing against the Biden family—all as part of an effort to influence the 2020 election and boost Trump's chances for re-election.5,6,7,8

That's right: These reports say that Trump used the power of the presidency to withhold aid meant to stop Russian incursions into Ukraine in an effort to force a foreign government to interfere in our elections—and then suppressed the turnover of whistleblower documents required by the law.

This is not only an earth-shattering level of corruption, it is also the textbook definition of an impeachable offense, and it has finally forced Democrats off the sidelines and into the fray.

Now, we must do everything we can to support the impeachment process in the House. That's why MoveOn is holding a major event in Washington, D.C. this week, flooding Congress with calls, running ads, and gearing up for a huge national week of action in districts across the country next week to ensure that impeachment moves forward without any delay.

Chip in $3 right now to our emergency 72-hour campaign to fuel the impeachment efforts in Congress.

MoveOn has already been leading in this fight. We called for Trump's impeachment back in 2017, and just last month we led "Impeachment August," holding events and calling on lawmakers to take a stand—which led to the most new support for impeachment from members of Congress in a single month since the start of Trump's presidency. Now that Congress is finally poised to take definitive action, we will continue to pound the drum for impeachment by driving calls to members of Congress who remain silent, hosting events in D.C. and around the country, running digital ads, and more.

At the same time, MoveOn is getting ready to announce our 2020 plans. This could be the biggest year in our 20-year history—and we will be holding Mitch McConnell and other Republicans like Susan Collins who have aided and abetted Trump's schemes accountable.

But to do all of this, we need your help right now. Eddie, will you chip in $3 to help us meet our $250,000 goal in the next 72 hours?

Thanks for all you do.

Tell Rep. Meeks: Impeachment Inquiry Now!

This is a critical week to demand Congress act on impeachment. Can you make a call today to get your representative off the sidelines??
Dear MoveOn member,

The dam holding back impeachment is breaking.

Since last night, more than a dozen Democratic representatives—and counting—have come out for the House impeachment inquiry. This includes freshman Democrats from swing districts, responding to the unfolding story of Trump's latest impeachable offense—holding back funds Congress appropriated for Ukraine in order to pressure Ukraine's president to help Trump's re-election.1

Eddie, now is a critical time to push for impeachment. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is holding a Democratic Caucus meeting this afternoon. It's imperative that, by the time that happens, many more Democrats join the stampede for impeachment. Nearly two-thirds of House Democrats have publicly supported the formal impeachment inquiry already underway. And we know that many of them reached their conclusion after hearing from their constituents.

But your member of Congress, Representative Gregory W. Meeks, has not even supported the existing impeachment inquiry, let alone reached a conclusion on impeachment.

Here's where to call:
  • Rep. Meeks - (202) 225-3461
Here's an example of what you could say: "Hello! I'm a constituent, and I'm concerned about Trump's abuses of power and the unwillingness of Congress to hold him in check. I believe Rep. Meeks must publicly support the House impeachment inquiry immediately and prepare to consider articles of impeachment."

Trump is an out-of-control, dangerous man who is using the power of the White House to harm us all. He is stirring up racial divisions and violence with his racist attacks and committing human rights atrocities against immigrant families, all while enriching himself, his family, and his donors.

And now, he has admitted that he used the power of his presidency to launch witch hunts into his political opponents. He continues to block every congressional effort to get to the truth—about his obstruction of justice, his family separation policies, his attempts to insert racist questions into the census, the secrets hidden in his taxes, his phone call with Ukraine (including the whistleblower complaint about that call) so much more.

It was already clear to many of us but is becoming even clearer to the holdouts: Democrats MUST impeach. And with the election approaching, the threat that impeachment becomes just another political football, rather than a sober responsibility to our country, becomes ever more concerning. The time to act is now.

Can you call and ask Rep. Meeks to support the existing impeachment inquiry today?

Here's where to call:
  • Rep. Meeks - (202) 225-3461

The case for impeachment is more clear than ever. Now, Democrats need to hear from us, with an overwhelming show of grassroots support.

Thanks for all you do.

One of the most dangerous countries in the world

The Trump administration is proposing sending asylum-seekers to El Salvador, one of the most unsafe countries in the world.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Trump administration's attacks on immigrants are seemingly never-ending. And they are designing these attacks to dismantle our already broken immigration system.

Congress has the power to fight back by defunding the agencies implementing these assaults against human decency: Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Will you call Representative Gregory W. Meeks now to demand Congress #DefundHate by cutting funds to CBP and ICE, and close their loopholes for overspending?

Heres's where to call:

  • Rep. Meeks - (202) 225-3461

Then click here and tell us how the call went.

Last week, the administration announced an agreement to send people who are seeking asylum in the U.S. to El Salvador, one of the most dangerous countries in the world.1 The safest place for people to seek asylum is inside the U.S., where they can join communities as they await their asylum hearings. If the Trump administration is forcing asylum-seekers to stay in other countries—like Mexico and El Salvador—we cannot ensure their safety. We have a moral—and legal—obligation to provide safety and security to those seeking refuge.

Congress needs to execute its power and stop funding Trump's deportation machine, ICE and CBP, to curb these egregious attacks on immigrants. Congress must stop rewarding these out-of-control agencies with more money, and it must ensure ICE and CBP can no longer abuse the system with their loopholes for moving money around. Every dollar Congress gives these agencies will result in more pain for immigrant and refugee communities.

The House of Representatives just extended the deadline to fund the government till November 21. Now is the time to ensure they know our demands as debate continues on how much money Congress gives to federal agencies.

Call Rep. Meeks now to ensure he prioritizes cutting funds and closing ICE's and CBP's loopholes for overspending in the next government funding bill.

Here's where to call:

  • Rep. Meeks - (202) 225-3461

You can say: Hi, my name is Eddie, and I am a constituent. I am asking Rep. Meeks to combat Trump's attacks on immigrants, from inhumane conditions in detention to the latest agreement to send asylum-seekers to El Salvador, where it is not safe. We have a moral—and legal—obligation to welcome asylum-seekers to the U.S., where we must ensure their safety. Please defund hate by cutting funds to ICE and CBP and closing their loopholes for overspending in the next round of budget negotiations. Can we count on you to fight for immigrant rights?

Then click here and tell us how it went.

Trump has been clear about his intention: to make our immigration system so painful that people don't want to come. This strategy is beyond cruel and ineffective. We need to ensure that Congress does all it can to provide immediate relief, and is ready to make major changes under a new administration.

It takes less than five minutes to call and express your outrage over Trump's attacks. Don't delay—call Rep. Meeks today to ask him to fight for immigrants and #DefundHate.

Thanks for all you do.

Mitch McConnell

I've known Mitch McConnell for a long time, since I was a Cabinet secretary in the 1990s, and I can tell you: He truly is the Darth Vader of Washington politics.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I've known Mitch McConnell for a long time, since I was a Cabinet secretary in the 1990s, and I can tell you: He truly is the Darth Vader of Washington politics. Which is why I'm glad to see that he's finally getting into hot water.

The nickname "Moscow Mitch" is sticking to him like glue because of his efforts to kill election security legislation. He's under fire from constituents for blocking bipartisan background checks legislation for gun sales after the mass shootings in Dayton, OH, and El Paso and Odessa, TX.

And, now, he's being called out for blocking funds for Kentucky coal miners suffering from incurable black lung disease.1

Even before these latest controversies, McConnell was the least popular senator in the country with his own constituents. Now, Democrats are lining up in Kentucky to run against him in 2020.

It's clear that Democrats CAN beat McConnell, but there's one giant problem: McConnell is up for re-election on the very same day as Donald Trump and other GOP senators, and Kentucky isn't one of the key swing states that will determine the outcome of the presidential election. MoveOn can't pull money away from their plan to beat Trump and the GOP in 2020, and that's why they've asked me to help raise enough money to increase their overall 2020 campaign budget to take on Trump, GOP candidates who'll determine control of the Senate, AND McConnell at the same time.

On average, MoveOn monthly donors chip in $12 a month. Can you chip in $12 a month to help fuel MoveOn's 2020 election campaign?

Yes, I'll chip in $12 a month to defeat Mitch McConnell and end GOP control of the Senate.

No, I can't chip in $12 a month, but I can still help out.

Kentucky is one of the biggest coal states in the country. Coal mining is one of the most dangerous jobs in the country, and the number of cases of incurable black lung disease has been on the rise.

If you live in Kentucky coal country, it's pretty much a lock that you know someone who is suffering from the dreadful health effects of coal mining.

For years, Republicans have been incredibly skillful at using divisive issues like guns, global warming, and abortion rights to turn Kentucky coal families against Democratic candidates.

But the truth is that it's the Republicans who don't give a damn about coal miners, except as political props.

That was never more clear than this summer, when a group of coal miners took a 10-hour bus ride to Washington, D.C., to ask McConnell to provide health care funding for the coal miners suffering from the incurable lung disease. McConnell met with them for one minute and then refused to help them.2

This is one of the reasons why McConnell's approval ratings are so bad even in his solidly Republican home state of Kentucky—and it's why we can beat him and so many other GOP senators, if we go big.

But adding Kentucky to MoveOn's list of target states will mean taking on a whole new set of fixed expenses that MoveOn otherwise wouldn't budget for. For instance, to run a real get-out-the-vote operation, they'll need to hire organizers and fund campaign ads.

My friends at MoveOn first contacted me about this challenge—and opportunity—earlier this summer. They wanted to know if I thought it was worthwhile to try to take on McConnell—and to know how much more they'd need to raise in order to defeat both Trump and McConnell in 2020.

I immediately said, "Let's go for it!" Because if we beat Trump but McConnell remains as Senate majority leader, then he will STILL be able to block anything that helps people or hurts the GOP's big donors.

Eddie, the 2020 election will be a defining moment for America. If we beat Trump and replace McConnell as Senate majority leader, then we'll have a real chance to take back the courts, repeal Trump's tax scam, finish the job that we started on health care with the Affordable Care Act, do something about guns, make progress on the climate crisis, and so much more.

But it starts here, with regular folks like you and me stepping up to make sure that MoveOn has the resources to take on McConnell, Trump, and the GOP and win. Will you help fuel MoveOn's 2020 election campaign with a monthly donation? (The average gift from a MoveOn monthly donor is $12 a month, but whatever you can afford will go a long way.)

Yes, I'll chip in $12 a month to defeat Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, and the GOP.

No, I can't chip in $12 a month, but I can still help out.

Thanks for all you do.

Quick reminder: Climate Strike tomorrow

Are you all set?

Dear MoveOn member,

I hope you're as excited as I am to attend the Climate Strike tomorrow!

Together, we'll be joining thousands of MoveOn members and millions of people across the world to demand immediate action to address the climate crisis.

If you haven't had a chance yet to RSVP for an event tomorrow, find one near you here.

If you've already RSVP'd, then you're all set; just check your email for details and any updates from the local event host.

Here's a quick reminder about why we're striking, from Isra Hirsi of the US Youth Climate Strike, which helped organize national climate strikes earlier this year and has been pushing candidates to demand a climate debate:

We all deserve the right to a future in a sustainable world. But today, that future is under threat because of climate change caused by carbon pollution. And right now, communities are being devastated by the current impacts of the climate crisis, with communities of color and low-income communities bearing the biggest burden.

It's time to take our destiny out of the hands of fossil fuel billionaires and the politicians who enable them. It's time to take to the streets to demand the future that we deserve.

RSVP here to join a Climate Strike event near you tomorrow.

And if you've already signed up, we'll see you on the streets tomorrow!

Thanks for all you do.

–David, Michael, Katie, Karine, and the rest of the team

P.S. If you're on social media, remember to use #ClimateStrike and #StrikeWithUs and tag @MoveOn. We'll be on the lookout for your posts!

P.P.S. On Sunday, September 22 at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT, we're co-hosting a national organizing call about the climate crisis. Join us to hear from climate action leaders, including the youth activists who have led the recent strikes, about what we can do next.

The new Kavanaugh revelations

When Senator Susan Collins cast the deciding vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, she called the investigation into whether Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted multiple women "very thorough."

Dear MoveOn member,

When Maine Senator Susan Collins cast the deciding vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, she called the investigation into whether Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted multiple women "very thorough."1

We learned last weekend that nothing could be further from the truth. The FBI did absolutely nothing—ZERO—to investigate a third allegation of sexual assault, made at the time by Max Stier, a Yale University classmate of Kavanaugh who now leads a prominent, nonpartisan organization in Washington, D.C.2 Stier came forward to say that he had seen Kavanaugh with his pants down at a party and that friends had pushed Kavanaugh's penis into a woman's hand. Stier tried to reach the FBI—both directly and through a senator—but the FBI did not even respond, much less interview him or otherwise investigate his accusation.

We also learned last weekend that the FBI did not contact nor interview the 25 people whose names fellow Yale classmate Deborah Ramirez had provided to the agency to corroborate her very similar allegation against Kavanaugh.3

In fact, the FBI did not even interview Dr. Christine Blasey Ford—who testified under oath to the Senate that Kavanaugh attempted to rape her—or her corroborating witnesses.4 And the FBI did not interview Kavanaugh.5

And, yet, Sen. Collins says that she is "proud" of her vote to confirm Kavanaugh.6

If you're outraged, Eddie, you're not alone. Sen. Collins' support has cratered in Maine, and the nonpartisan Cook Political Report now considers her re-election prospects a "toss-up."7 And we need to defeat Collins if we're going to end GOP control of the Senate next year. There are only a few seats that are even competitive—and Maine is key.

But since voting to confirm Kavanaugh, Sen. Collins has seen a massive surge in right-wing campaign donations, shattering her previous records.8 And we learned just this week that a dark money group linked to Donald Trump has already—more than a year before the election—launched a six-figure TV ad campaign praising Collins for being "independent" and "in the Maine tradition."9

It's going to take a huge effort to defeat Susan Collins, end GOP control of the Senate, and ensure that no one as categorically unfit to serve as Brett Kavanaugh is confirmed ever again.

And we need to get going. Will you chip in $3 to help out? Click here now.

Sen. Collins didn't just cast the deciding vote to elevate Kavanaugh to a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

The day before her vote she took to the floor of the Senate and spent 43 minutes and 30 seconds railing against the opposition to Kavanaugh and spewing Trump's talking points.

Sen. Collins called the opposition to Kavanaugh "a caricature of a gutter-level political campaign" and accused organizations of sexual assault survivors and women of "spreading misrepresentations and outright falsehoods" about Kavanaugh.10

And what did Sen. Collins say about Dr. Blasey Ford, the only victim allowed to testify during the confirmation hearings? Sen. Collins disregarded Dr. Blasey Ford's harrowing testimony recounting Kavanaugh and a friend pushing her into a bedroom during a high school party, holding her down and covering her mouth with such force that she feared for her life, and laughing while they assaulted her.

And now, Sen. Collins has dismissed the new revelations about Kavanaugh.11

Make no mistake about it: Sen. Collins will be very tough to beat. After 22 years in the Senate, she's a political institution in Maine, has sailed to re-election in the past, and she has a double-digit lead in early polls versus her challengers.12

And if we don't defeat her, we probably won't end GOP control of the Senate. That's why MoveOn is going all-in to defeat Susan Collins and her GOP allies and end GOP control of the Senate. The stakes couldn't be higher, and we simply can't do it without you. Will you chip in now to help out?

Click here now to chip in $3 to hold Susan Collins accountable, defeat her, and end GOP control of the Senate.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition: We are not Saudi Arabia's army

Tell Trump and Congress we need diplomatic solutions to global problems, not endless wars.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

After Saudi Arabia's oil facilities were attacked, Trump tweeted that the U.S. military is "locked and loaded" and "waiting to hear from the Kingdom ... under what terms we would proceed!"1

This is insane. Sorry, Trump, but we are not Saudi Arabia's army.

No U.S. soldier—nor anyone else in the region—should die in a dumb and disastrous war to defend Saudi Arabia's dictatorship. Tell Trump and Congress we need diplomatic solutions to global problems, not endless wars.

No U.S. president should take military orders from Saudi Arabia's dictator.

Trump didn't care about accountability when journalist Jamal Khashoggi was assassinated, but now he's willing to go to war because of an attack on Saudi Arabia's oil industry?2

Thanks!

Huge news!

I have been ruminating about this scenario for months, because defeating Trump and ending GOP control of the Senate has looked incredibly daunting.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I have something I want to shout from the rooftops. So I asked MoveOn if I could send you this email.

Eddie, what previously looked impossible has become possible!

Stay with me for a moment, because I need to explain. And I cannot overstate the urgency.

Think for a second about how you'll feel when you first learn on November 3, 2020, that a Democrat has just defeated Donald Trump for president. (Not an easy feat with Donald Trump's massive war chest and his willingness to do absolutely whatever it takes to win.) But ... we pull it off! Imagine the wave of emotion you'll feel.

But wait, the GOP has held onto the Senate, and Mitch McConnell is still the Senate majority leader. McConnell announces that he will refuse to allow a Democratic president to fill any vacancies on the Supreme Court. He will hold no confirmation votes of any kind unless the nominees are Republican, let alone allow debate or votes on Medicare for All, universal pre-K, a wealth tax, student loan forgiveness, or the Green New Deal.

You begin to see the writing on the wall: McConnell will not allow the Democratic president to govern at all.

I have been ruminating about this scenario for months, because defeating Trump and ending GOP control of the Senate has looked incredibly daunting. There just aren't many seats that are even competitive. But now, the ground has shifted.

Republican Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia just announced that he's retiring from the Senate, meaning both Senate seats in Georgia are now up for grabs. And this one extra seat—in a state that is trending blue—could be the tipping point that allows Democrats to win enough seats to end GOP control of the Senate.1

But we have to get started right now. And that's where MoveOn comes in.

MoveOn is well-positioned to reach millions of voters this fall. I believe in MoveOn's innovative programs, which reached tens of millions of voters last cycle—online, on the phones, at front doors, and on the streets. They're ready to staff up to take back the White House and the Senate. But it'll be the largest undertaking in MoveOn's 20-year history. For example, Georgia—although it is trending blue—is not likely to be one of the key swing states that will decide the presidential election in 2020. But now, it'll be ground zero in the fight for control of the Senate. And we'll need all hands on deck.

MoveOn has to pull out all the stops in Georgia and other key states to win back control of the Senate while still going all-in to defeat Trump. They've got to get started now. Which is why I'm writing to you with an important request:

Will you chip in a few bucks a month—$5, or whatever you can afford—so that MoveOn can defeat Donald Trump and end Republican control of the U.S. Senate next November?

Yes, I'll become a monthly donor to help beat Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the GOP in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

In 2018, Republicans controlled the White House, the House, and the Senate. We had spent two years in all-hands-on-deck emergency resistance mode. Together, we saved the Affordable Care Act—by just one vote. But then, thanks to the tireless work of activists across the country and groups like MoveOn, we took back the House in a huge blue wave.

Now, it's time to finish the job. To pull it off, MoveOn will have big bills to pay and payroll to make, starting today and all the way through Election Day.

Your support will help make sure that MoveOn doesn't fall short and have to make hard choices between focusing on defeating Trump or winning the Senate in 2020.

Will you become a MoveOn monthly donor today?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 to help beat Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the GOP in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich
