Order your limited-edition copy of this must-read book

In tough moments, I have always relied on my faith. My belief teaches me that the race does not always go to the swift or the strong but to the one who endures until the end. I know we can and will endure the fight that's coming.

Dear MoveOn member,

My first campaign came when I was in middle school. I really wanted to get Doritos into our school's vending machines. I campaigned hard—and I fell short, but I learned then that I had a voice, and that loss was the start of my political career.

I tell my story—from the very beginning, as the son of a school bus driver and a construction worker, to coming so close in the Florida gubernatorial race last November running an unapologetically progressive and people-powered campaign—in a new book, "Why I Run: 35 Progressive Candidates Who Are Changing Politics."

It's so important to hear, find strength in, and learn from each other's stories as we work to make possible a new era of progressive leadership that truly expands the possibilities of our politics and makes real and lasting change for our communities.

That's why I'm writing today to ask you to read the book. And if you order a limited-edition copy today from MoveOn, instead of from a corporate bookseller, you'll support MoveOn's work to elect progressive leaders at all levels of government.

It's not just my story in this book. You'll also hear from visionary progressive leaders such as Stacey Abrams, Pramila Jayapal, Deb Haaland, Jason Kander, and many others who have recently run their own campaigns and who share the stories of how they got their start—and how you can too.

If there is one thing my journey has taught me, it's that democracy doesn't work without you. We need to keep fighting and leading and changing what is possible for our communities.

In tough moments, I have always relied on my faith. My belief teaches me that the race does not always go to the swift or the strong but to the one who endures until the end. I know we can and will endure the fight that's coming.

But we're stronger and will get a lot farther together. We need to hear each other's stories and know each other's truths.

I am humbled to have my story included in "Why I Run," alongside so many other folks who inspire me. I hope you'll read it, Eddie.

Order the book today from MoveOn, and you'll support MoveOn's work to elect progressive leaders across the country.

Thanks for all you do.

–Andrew Gillum

Hi, it's Stacey

In my book, I offer a practical guide for anyone to jump in and become a leader, and I believe that you can be one of those leaders, Eddie.

Dear MoveOn member,

Stacey Abrams here. This past week, as we saw Donald Trump hide behind a four-page summary of a two-year investigation written by his own appointee, I was reminded of my run for governor.

Yes, the current system is rigged. There is no doubt about it. It is deeply inappropriate that Attorney General William Barr, an avowed partisan who in part auditioned for his current job by disparaging the Mueller investigation, tasked himself with summarizing the findings of that investigation. It is like having your brother summarize your report card to your parents, and we should all be extremely suspicious of what is going on behind the scenes.

Whatever happens with the full Mueller report, it won't stop Donald Trump and his administration from abusing our democracy and flouting every rule in the book. And it won't stop the daily, vicious attacks from this administration and other right-wing Republicans around the country against our most fragile communities and our vulnerable democracy.

What will stop Trump and his allies? Standing up, fighting harder, building up leaders within our movement who can inspire us to push forward, and, ultimately, taking back power.

I believe that each and every one of us has the ability to be a leader, no matter what adversity we have faced or what challenges we see in front of us. And we need leaders at all levels, not just candidates for governor or president. We need people who will lead in their workplace, faith community, and neighborhood association. Because real change doesn't come from politicians or government; it comes from the people. It comes from the OUTSIDE.

That is why I wrote my new book, "Lead from the Outside," to share my own experience and give practical advice to others on how to take charge and fight for change. Want a copy?

Click here to order your limited-edition copy today from MoveOn and help support MoveOn's work to fight back against Donald Trump's agenda day in and day out.

I saw first-hand what it was like to go up against a rigged system in Georgia, with my opponent Brian Kemp also serving as secretary of state and responsible for overseeing our election. I felt the acute frustration of challenging a system built to consolidate power at the top and keep the rest of us down.

But I also experienced the absolute joy of meeting people all across my state of Georgia—young and old; Black, white, Latino, Asian American, Pacific Islander; rich and poor and in-between; LGBTQ and straight;; rich or poor or in-between; LGBTQ or straight; and Georgians with disabilities—some who are longtime activists and many brand new to the fight all coming together to work toward a better future.

I saw what it was like to have people from around the country fighting with us, like the MoveOn members who endorsed me at a critical moment, volunteered, and raised over $1 million to help power my campaign!

And it was that inspiration, that unbreakable sense of hope, that has kept me going through it all—and it's what makes me certain now that even if things seem dark, we can and will overcome when we work together, claim power for ourselves, and fight for change.

In my book, I offer a practical guide for anyone to jump in and become a leader, and I believe that you can be one of those leaders, Eddie.

Click here to order your limited-edition copy of my book "Lead from the Outside" directly from MoveOn. I promise it will inspire you to get in this fight, and you'll be helping to power an amazing organization at the same time!

Running for governor in a rigged process and watching my opponent get away with refereeing his own election was hard. Watching Donald Trump ruthlessly and recklessly attack our democracy, further inflame the deep racism, sexism, and bigotry already rampant in our nation, and flout the law—and, so far, get away with it—has been infuriating and disheartening.

But we cannot lose hope. We can win together. Watching regular people from around our country rise up to fight back, from community leaders in small towns organizing their neighbors to activists taking on entrenched interests and winning seats in Congress, has given me so much hope.

We are not giving up or giving in; we are fighting back. We are fighting for a better future, and I believe that we will succeed.

I hope "Lead from the Outside" can help inspire you to stay in the fight. Click here to order your limited-edition copy from MoveOn now.

Thanks for all you do.

–Stacey Abrams

Sign the petition re: Betsy DeVos

Sign the petition telling the Department of Education you want the Special Olympics funding not to be cut in the 2020 budget.

Dear MoveOn member,

As part of the 2020 budgeting process, Betsy DeVos is proposing morally bankrupt funding cuts which will hurt children with disabilities and working-class folks—including nearly $18 million in cuts to the Special Olympics. This proposal, laid out in a draft of Trump's 2020 fiscal year budget, could impact 272,000 children across the country.1

Sign my petition telling Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education not to cut funding for the Special Olympics and other important programs our children rely upon.

Tell the Department of Education not to cut funding for vital programs like the Special Olympics and commit to using public funding to help children who are counting on all of us to look out for them.

Overall, DeVos is proposing a 12% agency cut to the department—impacting special education programs Americans rely on such as the Special Olympics, special education grants to states, the National Technical Institute for the Blind, and Gallaudet University—even though she wants a 15.6% increase in executive salaries.2

The Special Olympics was created in order to support healthy competition among children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. This program has over 5 million folks across the world competing in 170 countries.

Tell Betsy DeVos we can do better than this. No cuts to these crucial programs.

Special education and opportunities for children such as the Special Olympics are vital to the success and overall development of children with disabilities. Betsy DeVos is suggesting that "difficult decisions" needed to be made in order to draft this budget proposal, but to slash federal funding for the Special Olympics is not "difficult," it is morally bankrupt.

The Trump administration seems to have no problem spending taxpayer money on the president's regular trips to golf and fly to Florida for weekends. They seem to have no problem spending federal money to lock up children who have been separated from their parents. They seem to have no problem funding endless wars around the world.

But when it comes to our children's education, health, and well-being, we're supposed to believe they can't continue to fund some of the most popular programs in our nation?

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends and family.

Thank you.

Sign the petition re: Trump's corruption

Trump has lied and attacked this investigation at every turn—even while carrying out corruption, self-enrichment, and attacks on Constitutional rights in plain sight!

Dear MoveOn member,

Don't buy Trump's lies.

Mueller took over two years to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 election—and along the way Congress and the American public were able to confirm that there was a high level of foreign influence with a clear preference for Trump.

We know Trump has been surrounded by corrupt, criminal activity: from his campaign chairman Paul Manafort, to his personal lawyer Michael Cohen, his longtime confidant Roger Stone, his former NSA advisor Michael Flynn, his former campaign aide Rick Gates, his former campaign advisor George Papadopoulos, and many others.1 We also know from Attorney General William Barr's letter to Congress that the report did not exonerate Trump of obstruction of justice—that was Barr's decision in less than two days. The American public deserves—and demands—to see the full Mueller report, not just Barr's summary and hasty exoneration.

Sign the petition demanding the Justice Department release the full Mueller report to the public.

A brief "summary" by a hand-picked political appointee does not change that fact that the impact of Mueller's findings is far-reaching with consequences still to be felt—from the nearly 200 criminal charges already filed, many of them implicating key Trump advisors, to the ongoing investigations based on Mueller's work by the Southern District of New York, Congress, and other entities.

We can't settle for a brief and partisan overview of Mueller's report—but deserve to see it entirely. Can you add your name to demand that Barr release the full Mueller report to the public?
Mueller's report MUST be made public, and Congress must be prepared to do everything in its power to obtain it if the Trump administration and Justice Department refuse to be transparent.

Trump has lied and attacked this investigation at every turn—even while carrying out corruption, self-enrichment, and attacks on constitutional rights in plain sight! The list of Trump's deceptions, corruption, and attacks on our Constitution is legion—using the public treasury to pay into Trump private properties, violation of the emoluments clause, firing James Comey, interfering to get his son-in-law security clearance, allowing his children to mix private business with public service, lying about the tragedy in Puerto Rico and failing in relief efforts, separating and traumatizing families and children at the border, fierce attacks against Muslims, immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, politicizing a fake national emergency to circumvent Congress, paying hush money to silence political critics, putting lobbyists in charge of agencies that then serve those same lobbyists' private interests, and so much more.

So no one should be surprised that Trump's administration cannot be taken at their word. They lie often and with no shame or regard for our democracy.

House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, former U.S. chief ethics officer Walter Shaub, leading lawyers, scholars, journalists, and political leaders have all issued the same call: Barr, who was handpicked by Trump after he attacked the Mueller investigation, and who has publicly espoused a broad view of executive privilege, is not a fair arbiter, and has not earned the benefit of the doubt.

Congress must remain emboldened to demand answers and accountability. The media cannot be cowed by Trump's triumphant, dismissive, and deceptive tweets—and must continue to shine a spotlight on all of this corruption.

Our grassroots efforts led to pressure on Congress and the administration itself, brought over 100,000 people into the streets in hundreds of events across the country just two days after the midterm election, and gave cover for Mueller's team to conduct and finish an independent investigation that led to nearly 200 criminal charges, and paved the way for cases against Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, and more.

Our actions over this time period made a difference. Now we'll continue to fight to get the report released—and continue the longer fight against corruption, unconstitutional actions, and violent attacks from this White House, until we remove this administration from power.

And keep up the fight.

Thank you for all you do.

—David Sievers

We wanted to fight back, but we didn’t know how to start.

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear Eddie,

I'm writing to you today to ask you to start a MoveOn petition. Starting a petition takes only five minutes, and the result can change lives. I know that for a fact, because a MoveOn petition helped to save my family.

Last summer, ICE served my mom an order of deportation. She'd been in this country for nearly 20 years, worked at McDonald's, paid her taxes, and always followed the rules set forth by INS and ICE. But none of that mattered to them when they told us she had to board a one-way flight to Bangladesh.

My parents and I were so upset—and so afraid. We wanted to fight back, but we didn't know how to start. I was only 17. How could we take on something like ICE?

The answer was a MoveOn petition started by a community organization that wanted to help us!

More than 42,000 people signed the petition to stop my mom's deportation. Local organizations got involved, and then the media took notice. Just days before she was set to be deported, ICE backed down and said my mom could stay. I will never forget that moment, standing in front of news cameras, my father in tears, thanking the MoveOn members who signed the petition to keep our family together.

Eddie, I've seen firsthand the difference a MoveOn petition can make. So today, I'm writing this letter to you because I want you to know how good it feels to make a change in your community (or even your country!). My family is proof that when you raise your voice and organize, you can take on any opponent, even ICE. MoveOn has wonderful staff and amazing resources to help your petition succeed—but it all starts with you deciding you're ready to take that first step.

Eddie, take that first step right now: In just five minutes, you can start your very own MoveOn petition to make a change and make a difference in your community, your state, or our country.

Thank you for all you've done for my family—and for all you do.

–Samir Mahmud

Robert Mueller's report is finished. What's next?

This is it: Robert Mueller has just submitted his report on Donald Trump's potential collusion and obstruction of justice.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is it: Robert Mueller has just submitted his report on Donald Trump's potential collusion and obstruction of justice. His official findings have been sent to Trump's Attorney General William Barr, and it is now up to Barr to decide if the report will be made public.

Attorney General William Barr must make Mueller's report public. It's that simple. And if Barr attempts to conceal it, we must take to the streets.

This is a defining moment of our time. MoveOn has been preparing for this for months—and now, it is time to act.

Eddie, can you rush a contribution of $3 right now to help power the emergency work needed to build public pressure to ensure the Mueller report is released to the public?

This is one of the rare things that virtually all Americans agree on: 9 in 10 Americans want Mueller's report to be public, including a whopping 80% in Trump's own party, according to a poll released Wednesday.1

Barr owes it to the American people. But during his confirmation hearings last year, he refused to commit to releasing the report.2

That is why we have been preparing to go big and demand that the report is made public—and that appropriate action is taken to respond to the findings. Here is what we are ready to do, starting right now:

  • Launch a massive push to call on Attorney General William Barr to release the report by pushing out digital ads, asking MoveOn members to pledge to act if Barr refuses to release the report, working with our allies to build a groundswell of public pressure on Barr, and calling on Congress to do everything in their power to prevent a cover-up and compel full transparency from Barr.
  • Prepare to activate the Trump is Not Above the Law rapid response network if Barr refuses to make the report public. Over half a million MoveOn members and allies have signed up to attend rapid response events across the country. If word comes that Barr will not release the report, we'll organize events and flood the streets within hours.
  • Demand that Congress continue their investigation into Trump's wrongdoing, including subpoenaing key figures to the Judiciary and Intelligence committees of the House, examining conflicts of interest in his tax returns, and launching impeachment proceedings.

This is the moment to pull out all the stops. Please click here to chip in $3 right now to make sure we can move full speed ahead on these tactics right now.

Since the launch of the Mueller investigation two years ago there have been 199 criminal charges, 37 indictments or guilty pleas, and five prison sentences for individuals directly connected with Trump and his campaign.3

And yet through it all Donald Trump has called it a "witch hunt." Why? Because he is terrified. He is terrified of what is in this report. He is terrified that his crimes will come to light.

And today, as he hides out at Mar-a-Lago, he is surely more terrified than ever before. Which means he is more likely than ever before to do everything in his power to try and keep this report from the public, discredit its findings, and further consolidate his power.

This moment will test our democracy, and we are ready to meet it. Throughout the past two years, Trump has threatened over and over to shut down the investigation, but due in part to grassroots pressure from MoveOn members and our allies, he failed to stop Robert Mueller from completing his work.

That is what people-power looks like, and we are ready to flex our muscles again to defend our democracy and hold Trump accountable for his actions.

We do not have a moment to waste. Click here right now to rush an emergency contribution of $3.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition: Don't deport Liberian refugees

Thousands of Liberians are facing deportation on March 31 unless we stand up for them.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Liberians were granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in 1990 during the 14-year civil war in Liberia. Many have been in the United States since then—raising their children here, working, attending school, and more. There are many who came here as young children and have not returned to Liberia in 30 years.

But now the Trump administration has decided to end the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status for Liberians. Thousands of Liberians are facing deportation on March 31 unless we stand up for them.

Extend the Deferred Enforced Departure status for Liberians and allow them to continue their lives in this country.

After a 14-year civil war and an epidemic of Ebola virus, Liberia faces extreme poverty with a troubled health care system and very limited employment opportunities. These Liberians residing in America will be forced to return to a country without the infrastructure to sustain them.1

Congress must pass H.R.6 to ensure the extension of status of Liberians, and the Trump administration should support extending the status of the Liberians to prevent deportation.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

BREAKING: Trump just attacked MoveOn

Being singled out by Trump's campaign, Fox News, and the RNC has serious consequences—and already, the right-wing attacks are starting to snowball.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump's campaign and the Republican National Committee just directly attacked MoveOn on Twitter.1,2 And on Fox News, Donald Trump's 2020 campaign press secretary called us "despicable."3

The last time Trump called us out by name, MoveOn staff got hundreds of threats via email, phone, mail, and social media. We urgently need to rally together to beef up our internal security, while we double down on our work to stand up to Trump, Fox News, the RNC, and the right-wing media ecosystem that amplifies hate, lies, and attacks. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in now to help MoveOn stand up to Trump and his supporters and keep fighting without missing a beat.

Trump's campaign is attacking us for calling on the Democratic presidential candidates to skip this year's AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) conference—an event that will feature Benjamin Netanyahu, the corrupt, right-wing prime minister of Israel; a right-wing lobbying organization that champions him; and Mike Pence.

In 2015, while Barack Obama and MoveOn members joined forces to pass the historic Iran nuclear deal, Netanyahu gave a speech in front of Congress trying to get them to reject it. AIPAC also played a hand in spending tens of millions of dollars to block the deal. Netanyahu and AIPAC tried to exploit partisan politics in America to undermine Obama's historic Iran deal, but together, with President Obama, we successfully defended a diplomatic agreement that helped keep the U.S. off a path to war with Iran. (Trump has since tried to eviscerate the agreement while our allies in Europe are working hard to save it.)

And it's not just the Iran deal: AIPAC has become a hard-right, highly partisan organization that provides a platform for Islamophobic rhetoric while refusing to condemn blatant anti-Semitism from Donald Trump and Republican politicians.

Over 74% of MoveOn members who took our recent poll agreed that any progressive candidate vying to be the Democratic nominee for president should skip the AIPAC conference. The conference, you guessed it, seeks to shred the historic Iran nuclear diplomatic deal we fought so hard for—and to deny the basic human rights of Palestinians.

And Democratic candidates are listening. Just today, Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Beto O'Rourke, Julián Castro, and Pete Buttigieg, as of this writing, have all said they won't attend the AIPAC conference—which may be in part why Trump's attack dogs and other right-wing groups are going on the offense against MoveOn.

Our campaigning is striking a nerve. We can't back down now.

We must not let Trump and Netanyahu once again exploit partisan politics to sow hate, racism, xenophobia, and discord across the world. Please chip in $3 now and join the fight.

We have stood up to Trump and his bullying for two and a half years, and we will never back down or remain silent. But being singled out by Trump's campaign, Fox News, and the RNC has serious consequences—and already, the right-wing attacks are starting to snowball.

This is a breakthrough moment to change the power dynamics in Washington around how we support peace, diplomacy, and human rights, rather than AIPAC and its right-wing backers—which is why we need to keep pushing Democrats to skip the conference. It's also why we must fight back against the torrent of right-wing attacks, including from Trump's campaign.

Can you rush an emergency donation of $3 now so we can withstand these attacks and leverage the momentum of this moment to stand strong? Please click here now.

Thanks for all you do.

How we solve the Senate

Mitch McConnell just got some very, very bad news. The House of Representatives just passed H.R.1, the most sweeping campaign finance and ethics reform bill in a generation—which would be a major blow to Mitch and his legion of dark-money donors and lobbyists.

Dear MoveOn member,

Mitch McConnell just got some very, very bad news. The House of Representatives just passed H.R.1, the most sweeping campaign finance and ethics reform bill in a generation—which would be a major blow to Mitch and his legion of dark-money donors and lobbyists.

But the House passing this bill isn't even the worst of it for Mitch. The really bad news for him is that H.R.1 is wildly popular with voters.

That means that he has to make a choice that's sure to cause pain to him or his Republican caucus: allow this bill to come to a vote, risking his control of Washington, D.C., or face the wrath of voters.

And guess who's up for re-election in 2020? Mitch McConnell.

I'm introducing H.R.1 in the Senate because it's exactly what we need to fix Congress. MoveOn is joining me in the fight by helping to mobilize grassroots pressure demanding that McConnell allow a vote. And if he doesn't, they'll hold him and his fellow Republicans accountable in 2020. Will you join us and chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn stay in this fight for as long as it takes to win?

Yes, I'm with you, Jeff. I'll chip in monthly to MoveOn to stand up to Mitch McConnell, pass H.R.1, and hold Republicans accountable if they block a vote.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Every issue you care about: health care, military spending, climate change, you name it ... The solutions we need never get off the ground in Washington.

The House has already passed sweeping and historic reforms for democracy and voting rights and against Big Money. It approved bills to limit gun violence, and it is on its way to pass the Dream Act and take major steps to expand health care and combat climate change. But none of these critical bills will move in the Senate.

The reason why is that our democracy has been corrupted. Lobbyists, Super PACs, and big corporations control our elections, decide who runs, and have a huge impact on who wins. Then, politicians come to Washington and reward the corporate special interests that put them in power.

H.R.1 would end all that. This groundbreaking bill would

  • reject Citizens United and empower grassroots donors,
  • end partisan gerrymandering,
  • make Election Day a national holiday and voter registration automatic,
  • require paper ballots and expand vote-by-mail,
  • force dark-money groups to release their donors' names,
  • end the lobbyist revolving door between K Street and Capitol Hill, and do much, much more.

Sounds great, right? It does to you and me, but not to McConnell. Senator McConnell will not give up power willingly. Voters must take it from him.

That's why we need MoveOn's grassroots support to force a vote on H.R.1 in the Senate—or else hold accountable McConnell and other Republican senators standing in our way.

When I decided to run for re-election to the U.S. Senate rather than run for president, it was to commit to this fight to fix the Senate and solve the democracy crisis. If you're ready to join me in this fight, will you become a MoveOn monthly donor today?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly to MoveOn to stand up to Mitch McConnell, pass H.R.1, and hold Republicans accountable if they block a vote.

Or, if you can't chip in monthly, click here.

Thanks for all you do.

–Senator Jeff Merkley

What do you think? (AIPAC and 2020 candidates)

We're curious to know what you think about Democratic candidates for president attending the AIPAC conference.

Dear MoveOn member,

The 2020 Democratic presidential primary is well underway, and the candidates vying to be the next Democratic nominee will be making some serious decisions between now and the convention in July 2020.

In those moments, it's important to have our voices heard so that candidates know where MoveOn members stand. And, as candidates may be considering whether to attend the AIPAC conference this week, this is one of those moments.

AIPAC is a lobbying group. And over the years, AIPAC has become increasingly partisan and actively worked to hinder diplomatic efforts by Democrats including the Iran nuclear deal, undermine Palestinian self-determination, and invite some of the most hawkish speakers and those actively involved in human rights violations to its stage.

Here are a few examples:

  1. AIPAC spent tens millions of dollars in 2015 to defeat the Iran nuclear deal negotiated by President Obama along with our European and international allies. It was a historic diplomatic agreement that Trump has tried to derail since taking office.1

  2. This year's AIPAC conference is headlined by Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, under whose leadership, according to the U.N., Israel may have committed war crimes in attacks on Gaza.2 Netanyahu has also been indicted on bribery and fraud charges,3 and he recently made a deal to bring the "Israeli KKK" ultra-racist party into the next government.4

  3. In 2016, while Trump was running a racist, xenophobia, and anti-Muslim campaign, he was given standing ovations by the conference attendees.

  4. AIPAC has also been known to peddle anti-Muslim and anti-Arab rhetoric while giving platforms to Islamophobes.5

  5. AIPAC has refused to condemn the anti-Semitism of Republicans, such as Trump's friend and adviser Steve Bannon. Bannon's wife reported that he had their kids removed from a school because of "the number of Jews that attend" and that "he didn't want the girls going to school with Jews."6 While many groups condemned Bannon, Politico reported that AIPAC "declined to weigh in."7

Considering all of this, this year could be the year to make a difference and ensure Democratic presidential candidates don't feel the need to pander to an organization that has clearly shown it does not hold progressive values.

The survey below isn't a formal vote; it's just a way to get a sense of what you and other MoveOn members are thinking.

 MoveOn Member Survey

Any progressive vying to be the Democratic nominee for president should skip the AIPAC conference.

          Thanks for all you do.

Concrete action needed in the wake of New Zealand massacre

          Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Muslim Advocates, and I started a petition to FBI, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and President Donald Trump, which says:

A house of worship is a sacred place for people of all faiths. It is an unspeakable tragedy to see two mosques be so horrifically violated.

In the wake of this heartbreaking, anti-Muslim mass slaughter, it is clear that more needs to be done to protect Muslims and all vulnerable communities from the very real dangers posed by hate and white nationalists.

Thoughts and prayers are simply an inadequate response to this horrific attack. It is time for President Trump, elected officials, law enforcement and tech companies to act.

It is not enough for President Trump to merely send thoughts and prayers. The President called neo-nazis and white nationalists 'very fine people. This hate-filled murderer drew inspiration from Trump, and the white nationalist movement has celebrated Trump̢۪s words and policies.

The President needs to immediately and unequivocally condemn and disavow this attacker and the white nationalist movement.

Elected officials and law enforcement must do more to protect our community and all Americans from the white nationalist threat by calling on FBI Director Christopher Wray to prioritize the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of right-wing, white nationalist violence-the most significant threat to public safety in our nation today.

Social media platforms and tech companies like Facebook, Twitter and Google need to do much more to detect and shut down online hate content. The New Zealand shooter was able to livestream a 17-minute video of his murderous rampage that continues to spread like wildfire online. This is flatly unacceptable.

Tech companies must take all steps possible to prevent something like this from happening again. Further, hate groups have long used platforms like Facebook to organize, spread their violent messages and build their membership online. Facebook needs to do more to remove these hate groups before they inspire even more harm.

With historic levels of hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim bigotry in recent years here in the U.S., American Muslims have sadly been through so much. We will not allow this attack or this hate movement to prevent any of us from going about our daily lives, including attending our houses of worship and engaging with our communities. Together, with allied Americans of faith and goodwill, we will persevere and we will defeat hate.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

          Thanks!

          —Muslim Advocates

          New Zealand

Our hearts go out to the communities in New Zealand—and to Muslims around the world, including in the U.S., who are no doubt waking to today's news with more fear and heartbreak. Together, we can take action.

          Dear MoveOn member,

Just hours ago, a white-supremacist, anti-Muslim killer opened fire at two mosques in New Zealand, killing nearly 50 Muslims, destroying families and communities, and sending waves of terror across that country and around the world.

The police commissioner, fearing for the lives of Muslims in New Zealand, even asked Muslims not to attend communal prayer on Friday—the Muslim holy day.

This massacre is gut-wrenching—but sadly, it fits into patterns we know too well. There is a global wave of violence and discrimination against Muslims—from the Muslim detention centers in China to the Rohingya genocide in Burma to the Muslim Ban in our own country that has rejected over 37,000 visas from majority-Muslim countries in 2018 alone.1

While we wait to hear how we can best help communities in New Zealand, we can act to turn the tide on our most-prominent anti-Muslim policies at home.

You can help make a difference. Call your members of Congress now to demand they block Trump's Muslim Ban and the 'War on Terror" which has been used to justify wars in majority-Muslim countries.

          Here is where to call:

          • Representative Gregory W. Meeks: (844) 707-9026
          • Senators: (844) 551-7606

Islamophobia and anti-Muslim racism did not start with Donald Trump. It is all around us. There are politicians in both the Republican and Democratic parties who somehow are unable to see Muslims outside the framework of "terrorism." Our media outlets actively prop up Islamophobes and anti-Muslim rhetoric. A study was done that showed The New York Times talks more negatively about Islam than about cancer and cocaine.2 And then there's our judicial system, that has time and again protected torture techniques used by our government on Muslims and upheld Trump's Muslim Ban.

From Guantanamo to the so-called "War on Terror," where the United States is literally bombing majority-Muslim countries in Africa and the Middle East to surveillance policies and entrapment tactics by the FBI impacting communities domestically, anti-Muslim racism is used as part and parcel of the way our government and society currently operate. Some of the most atrocious programs targeting Muslims in the U.S. were carried out under President Obama.3

If we truly want to end the horrors of what we saw in New Zealand today, we must not be complicit, and that starts with acting in the U.S. to end our blatantly anti-Muslim programs.

Make a call to all of your members of Congress right now to take action, not just send thoughts and prayers, by blocking the Muslim Ban from further implementation and committing to end the so-called "War on Terror."

          Here's where to call:

          • Representative Gregory W. Meeks: (844) 707-9026
          • Senators: (844) 551-7606

Here's what you can say: "The atrocious attacks in New Zealand against Muslims demand action. Condemn the attacks but also work to block the Muslim Ban from being implemented any further and commit to ending the so-called "War on Terror," which has been used to target majority-Muslim countries with warfare."

Eddie, we're going into yet another election year. And Donald Trump has weaponized anti-Muslim racism publicly as an elected official, unapologetically attacking Islam, empowering Islamophobes throughout his administration, and boosting anti-Muslim websites. There's no doubt that anti-Muslim racism and fearmongering will be part and parcel of Donald Trump's campaign. Unfortunately, too many Democrats have yet to prove to Muslim communities that they stand with Muslim communities—and that they know how to effectively speak out against Trump's white supremacy, xenophobia, and clear anti-Muslim rhetoric.

The New Zealand shooter professed his admiration for Trump—one more reminder of the truly terrifying global web of white supremacy and anti-Muslim hate, when a killer around the globe and the man in the White House are pulling information from the same hateful sources, such as Breitbart News.

And since Trump's election, here in the U.S., anti-Muslim rhetoric and actions have been emboldened—along with attacks on communities of color, Jewish communities, and Middle Easterners and South Asians mistaken for Muslims.

Just look at the violent threats faced by Representative Ilhan Omar, an outspoken, progressive member of Congress, who is one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the House, and the first to wear a hijab. She has faced death threats, been added to the hit lists of white supremacists planning violent massacres, and has reported that her community mosque has received threats. Fox News commentators have cast suspicion on her wearing of a hijab, and Republican lawmakers have questioned whether she can serve on congressional committees and receive intelligence briefings. And instead of standing with her, Democratic leadership has been quick to throw her under the bus.

These anti-Muslim policies, rhetoric, and attacks won't end unless all of us join together to stand with Muslims and demand change. Call your members of Congress today to say we need more than thoughts and prayers: You must block Trump's Muslim Ban from being implemented and end the "War on Terror" to stop military action in majority-Muslim countries.

          Here's where to call:

          • Representative Gregory W. Meeks: (844) 707-9026
          • Senators: (844) 551-7606

Violence like the massacre in New Zealand doesn't come out of nowhere. Islamophobia has long, deep roots—stretching back centuries. But since 9/11, official policies in the U.S. and elsewhere have increasingly been willing to vilify the entire Muslim community with broad strokes.

Our hearts go out to the communities in New Zealand—and to Muslims around the world, including in the U.S., who are no doubt waking to today's news with more fear and heartbreak. We all know thoughts and prayers are not enough.

          Thanks for all you do.

          BREAKING: Congress just made history

Congress just made history: Moments ago the Senate voted to end Donald Trump's fake national emergency—in a bipartisan move to reassert congressional control over an out-of-control president who is abusing his power and pitting communities against each other with his racist, anti-immigrant agenda.

          Dear MoveOn member,

Congress just made history: This afternoon the Senate voted to end Donald Trump's fake national emergency—in a bipartisan move to reassert congressional control over an out-of-control president who is abusing his power and pitting communities against each other with his racist, anti-immigrant agenda.1 The House already overwhelmingly passed the same measure. It's a historic rebuke of a sitting president.

However, 41 Republican senators voted to support Trump's unconstitutional, illegal actions—including Senator Cory Gardner of Colorado, Senator Martha McSally of Arizona, and Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, all three of whom spoke out against the fake emergency, but, ultimately, failed to stand up to Trump.

Senators Gardner, McSally, and Tillis are up for reelection next year, and all three are in swing states. We've got to hold them accountable for their cowardice.

If we can raise the money, MoveOn is going to launch billboards in Colorado, Arizona, and North Carolina calling out the senators for their cowardice, hypocrisy, and complicity in Trump's illegal, racist actions. Will you help out?

Please click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford, to launch billboards holding cowardly GOP senators accountable.

The truth is that Trump is going to veto this measure, and there are not enough votes in Congress to stop him.

While Trump's fake emergency declaration is deeply unpopular, including with Republicans in red states, Republicans are too scared of Trump, beholden to the Big Money interests that back him, and have chosen to side with him, his illegal actions, and his racist agenda yet again.

So we're not planning to mount a major campaign to override his veto. Instead, we are going to focus on holding the senators who disregarded the Constitution to appease Trump responsible for their actions, and we will continue to work against Trump's attacks on our democracy and communities. The next battle against Trump's racist wall has already begun with the 2020 budget process.

This is a critical moment; our democracy is on the line. We absolutely must hold GOP senators accountable for their actions. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in to help erect billboards to hold the GOP accountable for its part in Trump's racist, unconstitutional emergency power grab.

If we raise enough money, we'll expand the billboards to as many as six additional states, targeting politically vulnerable Republican senators with hard-hitting, attention-grabbing ads, so they can't duck responsibility for turning their backs on their duty to their constituents and the Constitution.

          Thanks for all you do.

I can’t believe I still have to do this

Jon Stewart here. I'll be honest. I'm annoyed that I have to write this email to you asking for money. Actually, I'm pissed.

          Dear MoveOn member,

          Jon Stewart here.

I'll be honest. I'm annoyed that I have to write this email to you asking for money. Actually, I'm pissed.

I'm writing to you because once again, Congress is failing to fulfill their moral obligation to the heroes who sacrificed their lives and health on September 11, 2001.

Here's the deal: The September 11 Victim Compensation Fund, the fund created to meet the needs of 9/11 first responders and survivors, is running out of money. And now, 45,000 people—who 17 years later are still suffering from 9/11-related chronic health problems—are getting stiffed. Congress still hasn't passed a bill to make the fund permanent, even though there's bipartisan support and more than 200,000 MoveOn members signed my petition in the last few weeks.

I've teamed up with an organization called the Feal Good Foundation to demand that Congress fully fund the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund now and into the future—and I'm asking you to stand with the 9/11 heroes by making a donation to the Feal Good Foundation today. Will you make a tax-deductible donation now?

Yes, I'll make a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Feal Good Foundation to support the 9/11 first responders.

More than 10,000 people have been certified with 9/11-related cancer, and 45,000 people have 9/11-related chronic health problems of one kind or another—most have more than one.

In fact, more people have died from 9/11-related illnesses since September 11 than died in the attacks themselves. John Feal's Facebook page is still full of tributes—almost daily—to those who are dying from the health problems caused by the attacks.

These people were told that the air was safe to breathe at ground zero. It wasn't.

Then Congress said if the 9/11 victims gave up their rights to sue for damages, the federal government would meet their needs.

          And now they're being stiffed.

There are no words for the depth of this moral failure, but you can help by making a donation to the Feal Good Foundation today.

This organization was created by John Feal, himself a 9/11 first responder. John's foot was crushed by an 8,000-pound steel beam.

But he didn't give up. He didn't even slow down. He started the Feal Good Foundation to provide help for firefighters, police officers, and other heroes who need help with physical and emotional illnesses and compensation.

Your tax-deductible donation will help fund travel expenses for 9/11 survivors to come to D.C. to talk to their representatives—and anything left over will be used directly to pay for everything from prescription drugs to basic home utility bills for first responders in need.

Will you make a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Feal Good Foundation today?

It's just maddening that 17 years after September 11, these survivors and first responders are once again being forced to go to D.C., hat in hand, to ask for what's already owed to them.

In 2010, I had four 9/11 first responders on my show to talk about the Zadroga bill, the bill they were fighting for back then to make sure the people suffering from 9/11-related health problems got the help they needed. The bill was stuck in the Senate, but we pushed and fought and got it passed.

Then, five years later, funding under the Zadroga Act expired, and I invited the same four 9/11 first responders to come on the show again—except only one of them was left. Two were too sick to come on and another had passed away.

Again, we fought and got another extension of the funding—which today is once again running out.

I have no witty send off. I don't feel like making jokes. I want this to be over so that these people can finally go home and know that their country did right by them. Will you stand with them by making a tax-deductible donation to the Feal Good Foundation?

          Yes, I'll chip in now.

          Thanks for all you do.

          –Jon Stewart

Can we send you a free sticker?

MoveOn just printed a big batch of "Earth Can't Wait" stickers in support of the Green New Deal, and we're giving them away for FREE while supplies last.

          Dear MoveOn member,

According to the most recent reports, we have only 12 years left to take bold, definitive action to address the climate crisis, or we'll face a full-blown global catastrophe.

The Green New Deal, a sweeping piece of legislation introduced by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey aimed at addressing the climate crisis head-on, is precisely the type of bold, progressive action we must take. It's attracting widespread support across the country and pushing members of Congress to confront the crisis—but with so many entrenched interests hellbent on stopping this legislation, we must build massive grassroots support for the Green New Deal now.

That's why MoveOn just printed a big batch of "Earth Can't Wait" stickers in support of the Green New Deal, and we're giving them away for FREE while supplies last.

Click here or on the image below to order your FREE sticker now!

Oil companies, big polluters, and the GOP members of Congress in their pockets are doing everything they can to smear the Green New Deal and deny the devastating effects of climate change in order to protect their bottom lines. But a grassroots movement, led by youth activists from the Sunrise Movement, is fighting back and ready to make climate and the Green New Deal a centerpiece issue for the new Congress and in the 2020 election—including holding a nationwide student walkout this Friday to support action on the climate crisis.

There is no time to waste. Join MoveOn in showing your support for the Green New Deal by ordering your "Earth Can't Wait" sticker now, placing it somewhere visible, and sharing the message with your family and friends.

          Thanks for all you do.
