It's really me. I started this petition.

Sign my petition telling Congress to authorize full, permanent funding for the victims and families of the 9/11 attacks.

Eddie—I'm back from yet another trip to D.C. and am thankful that 150,000 people have signed my petition in just a few days. We still need more support to show Congress we are not giving up until this bill is done. Please see the email below and take just one minute to add your name to my petition.

Dear MoveOn member,

My name is Jon Stewart, and I seriously need your help.

I'm down in Washington, D.C. right now and just started a petition with my friend John Feal because Congress needs to immediately authorize permanent funding for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. The Fund is running out of money as people continue to get sick and die from the health effects of the 9/11 attacks, and now families are seeing up to a 70% cut in their payments.

Sign my petition telling Congress to pass the bipartisan bill to support the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Congress must immediately vote to support the bipartisan bill "Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund" to authorize full, permanent funding for the victims and families of the 9/11 attacks.

We've made numerous trips down to Washington, D.C. over the years to fight for 9/11 victims and their families. Even though the experience is exhausting and infuriating—emotionally and physically—it's still nothing compared to the daily pain, fear, and uncertainty faced by 9/11 responders and survivors who are in all 50 states and in 434 out of 435 congressional districts.

Jon Stewart petitionSign the petition.

The number of people coming forward with illnesses and cancers related to the exposures to toxins at ground zero grows every single day. Nearly every other day, another 9/11 responder or survivor reportedly dies from a 9/11-associated cancer. As the consequences of these attacks grow, so too do the costs which are taking a significant toll on the current funding for the victims of this tragic day.

Chronic diseases such as asthma, obstructive pulmonary disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and cancer continue to plague those who were exposed to the many toxins and carcinogens on 9/11 and in the weeks and months after.

Currently, more than 45,000 people who are in the World Trade Center Health Program are suffering from at least one certified 9/11 condition caused by the toxins at ground zero, at the Pentagon and at the Shanksville crash site, and a large percentage have multiple conditions.

Sign my petition to tell Congress it is their responsibility to provide the Victim Compensation Fund with all the funding needed to make sure that 9/11 responders and survivors get the help they need and deserve.

The new bipartisan bill "Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund" may be one of the few bipartisan bills that can pass Congress this session–and we don't have time to sit around playing political games.

To be quite frank, it's embarrassing that it hasn't been done already.

This is not a partisan political issue. We will talk to anyone—anywhere, anytime—to make it clear that our loyalty is to those who sacrificed so much for their communities.

We ask so much of our nation's first responders and volunteers—from firefighters to disaster response volunteers. Let us not repay their selflessness with apathy. Sign the petition. Demand your members of Congress vote to support the bill.

Thank you.

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear Eddie,

Now that the new Congress is seated, it's absolutely vital that they take swift action to legislate a bold progressive agenda, and we need your help to make that happen.

Eddie, will you start a MoveOn petition right now to help set the 2019 congressional agenda? Your voice determined the outcome of this election. Now it's time to make sure your priorities are reflected in Washington.

It's absolutely imperative that congressional Democrats move quickly to enact badly needed oversight over every arm of the Trump administration, take meaningful steps to protect those on the front lines of Trump's attacks, and begin proceedings to correct the catastrophic damage that has been inflicted on our government and our global reputation. This is not the time for grandstanding or equivocating. Democrats need to know that their grassroots army is watching ... and that we expect results.

Eddie, will you help set the 2019 congressional agenda by starting your MoveOn petition today? The whole process takes about five minutes, and you'll feel great knowing you took action on an issue that matters to you.

MoveOn's petition tool is easy to use, with step-by-step instructions, sample templates, and prompts. You can even share your new petition over social media, which will help immediately inspire your friends and family. We're here if you have any questions during your campaign and will be among the first to congratulate you for a campaign victory!

We saw on November 6 that change is possible—and not only that, it's imperative. We can't stop now, Amonte. Be a part of this moment, and make sure your voice is heard in the halls of Congress this year. Start your MoveOn petition right now.

Thanks for all you do.

An important message from the ice cream guys

Ben and Jerry here, the ice cream guys. H.R.1, the For the People Act, has just been introduced in Congress. It's the best thing to happen for getting money out of politics and ending voter suppression since our Stamp Stampede protest began way back in 2012.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Ben and Jerry here, the ice cream guys.

H.R.1, the For the People Act, has just been introduced in Congress. It's the best thing to happen for getting money out of politics and ending voter suppression since our Stamp Stampede protest began way back in 2012.

Over 100,000 of us have been making our voices heard by—totally legally—rubber-stamping paper currency with the "Stamp Money Out of Politics" message. Making your voice heard loud and clear like that is what makes all the difference. As Abraham Lincoln said, "Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail. Without it, nothing can succeed." And every stamped bill is seen by 875 people as it gets passed around.

And with the introduction of H.R.1, it sure seems like all those dollar bills that MoveOn members have been stamping are having some effect.

But not every MoveOn member has a stamp. So in order to make your sentiment public, MoveOn and the Stampede have arranged to give a FREE STAMPEDE RUBBER STAMP to anyone who donates $16 or more to MoveOn now. One lucky stamper will also win free Ben & Jerry's ice cream for a year!

Just click here, chip in $16 or more, and we'll send you your very own self-inking "Stamp Out Money in Politics" rubber stamp!

Here is a picture of what a bill looks like after it's been stamped! Pretty great, right?

Click here to get your stamp now and be entered to win a year of free ice cream on us!

Sustained public demand is what's going to turn the tide and restore our democracy to rule of the people instead of rule of the money. Ice cream melts, but when you stamp a dollar bill, it stays in circulation for five years.

Now you might say, "I never use cash." Well, I'll bet there's one or two bills in your wallet right now. All you gotta do is stamp 'em and spend 'em.

And besides, don't you think it's time to stop feeding the greedy credit card companies that are charging exorbitant interest and fees for being one freaking day late? And on top of that, they're taking a bunch of those fees and bribing politicians to cut regulations, so they can charge higher fees.

Revolt. Go retro. Join the paper cash society. Your loved one will be way impressed when you pull out a nice big wad of cash next time you're out on the town. And won't they be head over heels when they see that you've personally adorned your entire wad with the "Stamp Money Out of Politics" rubber stamp?!

All's ya gotta do is click here … quick ... our ice creams are melting!

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition re: Secretary of Interior

Trump just announced he will nominate David Bernhardt, a former high-paid oil lobbyist, to run the Department of the Interior.

Dear MoveOn member,

Trump just announced he will nominate David Bernhardt, a former highly paid oil lobbyist, to run the Department of the Interior.1 As secretary, Bernhardt will be responsible for fossil fuel leasing on our public lands and waters and implementing Trump's plan to gut the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monuments.

We don't need another interior secretary who is unfit to lead. Americans deserve a secretary who will put Americans first, not the profits of his former clients. Tell the Senate: Bernhardt is a walking conflict of interest and unfit to be secretary of the interior.

Bernhardt's former clients received government largesse after he became deputy secretary, and he is already the subject of litigation from groups requesting his ethics documentation under the Freedom of Information Act. Trump's last interior secretary was forced to resign amid growing scandal.2

If confirmed, you can imagine what will happen next—Bernhardt will use his position to help his Big Oil friends dismantle basic protections, such as the Endangered Species Act. Instead of draining the swamp, Trump wants to turn our national parks and wild places over to the swamp monsters. We need your help to fight back!

Thanks!

What just happened (and how you can help)

This is Nick Berning, MoveOn's Chief Communications Officer. I don't write you emails very often, because I spend most of my time working to get our message out through the media.

Hi, MoveOn member!

This is Nick Berning, MoveOn's Chief Communications Officer. I don't write you emails very often, because I spend most of my time working to get our message out through the media.

I'm writing you today to talk about our rapid-response mobilizations in the age of Donald Trump and the media coverage that they get—media coverage that helps stiffen the spines of Democrats, hold Republicans accountable, change the conversation in newspapers and on TV and in social media, and influence the national debate.

When news broke that Trump would become president back in 2016, MoveOn and our allies organized vigils less than 24 hours later. This rapid mobilization allowed us to be front and center in the news and establish a narrative of resistance that powered us through the Women's March, the airport protests against the Muslim Ban, and our successful campaign to save Obamacare.

When news broke that, because of Trump, crying children were being ripped out of their parents' arms at the border, MoveOn, along with a different coalition of groups, organized more than 700 massive demonstrations—which took place while the issue of family separation was reaching a fever pitch in the media. Our "Families Belong Together" events were a big part of the overwhelming groundswell that forced Trump to end his grotesque family separation policy. While too many families remain separated, the fact is that without this mobilization—and the impact it had on the media narrative—things would be worse for far more families.

When news broke that Trump installed a crony to oversee special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, crossing a red line in a brazen attempt to obstruct the investigation, more than 100,000 MoveOn members and other concerned Americans flooded the streets less than 24 hours later (and only two days after the 2018 midterm elections). These immediate protests were able to show the media and lawmakers that there was strong grassroots resistance to Trump's attacks on the rule of law, and they helped to embolden the new Democratic majority in Congress, who have now begun investigations.

And this past week, when news broke that Trump declared a fake national emergency in order to advance his anti-immigrant agenda, MoveOn and our partners in a crisis response network joined with immigration groups and other allies to organize 277 rapid-response events in 48 states, with at least 50,000 attendees. Our demonstrations took place just 72 hours after Trump announced his fake state of emergency.

Eddie, events like these make news—and show America what progressives stand for. Coverage of this Monday's actions was viewed 48 million times on TV—including on the "NBC Nightly News," "The Rachel Maddow Show," multiple CNN shows, and more. NPR mentioned our protests on "Morning Edition" and throughout the day. Over a million more watched the livestreams provided by MoveOn's in-house Video Lab. And our mobilization was covered in more than 700 print and digital outlets. I'd like to claim that this was because of great press pitching—but the reality is: it's because of people power. Once again, we helped show that the people of this country oppose Trump's fake emergency and attacks on immigrants—by showing up in the streets at the peak of the news cycle.

MoveOn is one of the only organizations that can launch rapid-response national actions like these and get news. We're able to pull off these events because of MoveOn's monthly donors, who give us the financial independence to spring into action immediately—as soon as news breaks—without having to ask for money first.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help keep MoveOn strong and ready to mobilize the moment the next crisis arises?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't become a monthly donor right now.

We need to keep doing big mobilizations like these over the next two years to make sure that issues such as family separation, Trump's cruelty to immigrants, and his reckless disregard for the rule of law stay front and center in the national conversation.

Right now, we're doing these events on a shoestring budget. Progressives have far, far less money than the right wing. Still, we're able to get a great deal of news coverage. That's because we have people power: We're able to mobilize huge masses of people on very short notice—something the right just can't do. However, we still need funds to pay for organizers, Facebook ads, livestreams, signs and banners, a communications team to help spread the word, which includes Karine Jean-Pierre (whom you may have seen on the news!) and more.

For years, the right has tried and failed to build an organization like MoveOn. If you value MoveOn's always-on, rapid-response organizing—and the incredible results that this approach gets in the media—then I hope you'll become a monthly donor today. Will you chip in $5 a month, or whatever you can afford?

Click here right now and sign up to chip in a little bit each month, so that we can keep the Trump resistance in the headlines.

Not able to become a monthly donor? Click here, because MoveOn still needs your help.

Thanks for all you do.

The officer who killed Tamir Rice could be back on the streets (petition)

Putting Timothy Loehmann back on the streets with a badge and gun would threaten public safety and send the dangerous message that police officers are above accountability for their actions.

Dear MoveOn member,

Cleveland's police union is trying to get the officer who killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice back on the streets. Will you sign my petition calling on them to stop pushing for the reinstatement of Timothy Loehmann?

Stop defending the officer who killed Tamir Rice and trying to get him back on the police force. Putting Timothy Loehmann back on the streets with a badge and gun would threaten public safety and send the dangerous message that police officers are above accountability for their actions.

The Cleveland Police Department fired Timothy Loehmann after he killed Tamir Rice and an investigation showed that he lied on his job application—hiding the fact that another police department had determined he was too unstable to be a police officer.

Cleveland's police union has been fighting to get Loehmann his job back ever since. Police unions often succeed in getting corrupt and dangerous officers back in their jobs after the public's attention has moved on. We can stop that from happening—and make it less likely in the future—by publicly confronting the Cleveland Patrolman's Association.

Tell Cleveland's police union: Stop defending Tamir Rice's killer and trying to get him back on the police force. We'll use your petition signatures to publicly confront the police union.

Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehmann shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice less than three seconds after getting out of his car. He should never have been hired, and he definitely shouldn't be given a second chance. He's unstable, dishonest, dangerous, and he's already killed unjustly and recklessly.

The Cleveland Police Department's leadership decided Loehmann shouldn't be a police officer. After the police union appealed that decision, a labor arbitrator recently ruled against them—but they're still fighting to get him back on the streets with a badge and gun. Loehmann also recently tried to get another job at a nearby Ohio police department—and he was forced to withdraw his application after a massive public outcry.

Police unions aren't used to being challenged publicly. If enough of us speak out against what the police union is doing, it will make it less likely they succeed in getting Loehmann his job back. And it will create a political cost for defending corrupt, violent, and dangerous officers—making them think twice about defending the next Timothy Loehmann.

Join us in confronting the Cleveland police union for defending Tamir Rice's killer.

Sign the petition: Keep Endangered Species Act status for the gray wolf

The gray wolf is on the verge of losing Endangered Species Act protections.

Dear MoveOn member,

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to remove Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves. This is a catastrophic move for wolves, which are slowly beginning to reoccupy their historic habitat.

The Endangered Species Act, which has safeguarded the gray wolf thus far, is America's most effective law for protecting wildlife in danger of extinction. Don't remove the gray wolf's Endangered Species Act status.

Gray wolves are finally beginning to recover in the continental U.S. after humans trapped, shot, and poisoned them to the brink of extinction. But wolves still have a long way to go before they can be considered recovered, and they remain functionally extinct in the vast majority of places where they used to live. Now is not the time to remove Endangered Species Act protections from these imperiled animals.

Removing protections from gray wolves would effectively declare open season on wolves as they return to unoccupied parts of their range. In Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, where wolves have already lost federal protections, trophy hunters, trappers, and others have killed more than 3,200 wolves since 2011. That's only in three states; expand that number to the wolf's historic range and you are left with a wholesale massacre of gray wolves.1

Add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends to sign as well.

Since the enactment of the Endangered Species Act, 99% of listed species have avoided extinction, and hundreds more have been set on a path to recovery. But the Endangered Species Act is only effective when it is allowed to do its job. When the bald eagle was clawing its way back from extinction, the Endangered Species Act protected it until it had expanded its range. Gray wolves deserve that same opportunity.2

Removing the protections that are integral to their recovery will plunge them back to the brink of extinction. Sign the petition and tell the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service not to declare open season on the gray wolf!

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

PHOTOS: Amazing #FakeTrumpEmergency protests today - 50,000 people, 277 events

Donald Trump may control the White House for the moment, but we are not giving up on what this country can be. And today, tens of thousands of MoveOn members and allies hit the streets to build a vision of a country where all people can fully thrive.

Dear MoveOn member,

277 events. 48 states. At least 50,000 attendees. That's what power looks like.

Eddie, Donald Trump may control the White House for the moment, but we are not giving up on what this country can be. And today, tens of thousands of MoveOn members and allies hit the streets to build a vision of a country where all people—including those seeking asylum, immigrants, Muslims, and Black and brown communities—can fully thrive. A country where we won't be pitted against each other for any politician's agenda. A country where no president can place himself above the law.

From Cambridge to Boise, D.C. to Austin, Atlanta to Missoula, New York City to Honolulu, Cape Girardeau to Seattle, protestors came together to show that we will not stand for Trump's fake national emergency in order to advance his anti-immigrant agenda.

Trump's fake national emergency is just the latest in his planned, orchestrated series of attacks—from ending DACA to the Muslim Ban to family separation—designed to enact his racist policies. And Trump is grossly over-reaching and shredding the Constitution in order to advance his white supremacist agenda.

But we were ready. Thanks to a network of MoveOn member hosts, many of whom have been training and preparing for over a year for a moment like this, we were able to show up in force and push back.

This enormous undertaking was also only possible because coalition partners around the country, including MoveOn, the ACLU, Win Without War, and CREDO, who have been planning together to be ready to mobilize in a moment such as this for over a year. And partners, including United We Dream, Indivisible, PFAW, CPD, SEIU, AFT, AFSCME, NEA, Sierra Club, ResistBot, and over 100 more allies, joined forces in the crucial hours and days after Trump's announcement.

That's how—with just 72 hours notice—we were able to do the impossible.

Tens of thousands of us sent the message loud and clear to Trump that we will not tolerate him building walls, banning Muslims, or attacking immigrant, Muslim, and Black and brown communities. And we won't let him get away with asserting he can unilaterally place himself above the law.

We were also joined by members of Congress—including Reps. Ayanna Pressley (MA), Maxine Waters (CA), Pramila Jayapal (WA), Jerry Nadler (NY), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Joaquin Castro (TX), amongst others—who joined protests in their home states. And the entire world seems to be watching too. There was even a solidarity protest all the way in Barcelona, Spain!

The fight isn't over to defend and protect communities that have been under attack during the Trump Administration, but, together we've shown the power that we carry.

At this point, Trump could be in office for another two years. The damage he could do in that time is enormous. But when the entire progressive movement stands up together, we can force Congress to act, mitigating the damage.

And that's not all: A grassroots army like ours means that once Democrats finally hold power, they will have a mandate that we helped established and a powerful base of activists (that's us) who will ensure they enact the progressive policies we need to create the world we want to live in.

Can you chip in $5 a month to help ensure we can keep going strong with national mobilizations in moments that demand outrage?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly and help MoveOn respond in critical moments as they arise!

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all your work in this fight so far, Eddie.

And thanks for all you do.

LAST CHANCE: We're launching nationwide protests

Since announcing these events on Friday, over 220 events have been scheduled across 43 states, and over 10,000 people have signed up to attend. We have only a few hours left to secure much-needed funds to make these events a success.

Dear MoveOn member,

In a truly brazen and illegal move, Donald Trump declared a national emergency on Friday, circumventing Congress. It's his last-ditch attempt to divert billions to build his useless, racist border wall.1

That's why MoveOn and our allies have been working through the weekend to organize emergency nationwide protests this Monday, February 18, to oppose his manufactured crisis and demand Congress take action, and we urgently need to raise substantial funds to pull them off.

Since announcing these events on Friday, over 220 events have been scheduled across 43 states, and over 10,000 people have signed up to attend. We have only a few hours left to secure much-needed funds to make these events a success.

Will you chip in right now to help help make our nationwide protests a big success?

Please click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.

Trump already lost the battle for wall funding with Congress and the American people. The "compromise" bill released last Wednesday did not include his demanded $5.7 billion for a wall—even though it did make unacceptable concessions to Trump and the GOP to expand immigrant detention centers.

And so, in a move akin to those made by dictators, Trump turned his back on the American people and the democratic process and declared a completely unfounded national emergency in order to appease bigots and the pundits on Fox News.

We will not let Trump's illegal power grab be met with silence. That's why, in coordination with our partners, we are launching our Crisis Response Network, a national network of MoveOn members and allies who are ready to take to the streets to fight back.

We're organizing hundreds of protests in communities large and small across the country, grabbing the attention of the media, Congress, and Trump himself, with a clear message: We stand with the immigrant and refugee communities under attack by Trump's racist demagoguery. There is no emergency. Congress and the courts must take immediate action to overturn this illegal action.

With each passing hour, we're making decisions about how big we can go, and how many ads we can run to recruit to these events. We need to rent stages and audio equipment, print and ship posters, set up livestreams, run Facebook ads to make sure people show up, coordinate with MoveOn members all around the country who are hosting events, and more.

Will you chip in $3 to this emergency campaign, so we can meet our midnight deadline in order to cover the costs associated with these events?

Yes, I'll chip in to help protest Trump's racist, undemocratic emergency power grab.

Trump's emergency declaration shows just how far he's willing to go to get what he wants—and how little regard he has for even the most basic fundamentals of our democracy.

Even some Republicans are alarmed, because of the precedent that this sets.2

But Trump is moving forward, bulldozing everything in his way. And who will pay the cost if Trump succeeds? Immigrant communities already under attack from his inhumane, racist policies.

Trump is a racist and a liar. Declaring a national emergency is a desperate move by an unhinged man unhappy with the results of the 2018 election and angry at a Congress that will not indulge his temper tantrums and conspiracy theories.

We know how far Trump is willing to go, and we must do everything in our power to stop him. Will you chip in $3 right now?

Thanks for all you do.

–Emma, Michael, Elsie, Ilya, and the rest of the team

P.S. Trump's justifications for declaring a state of emergency to fund his border wall are filled with lie after lie, but they also serve as a convenient cover for yet another one of his desperate lurches toward authoritarianism—and the potential consequences could not be more dire.

Depending on the details of the national emergency Trump declared, he may have just opened the door to a set of broad legal powers that have the potential to irrevocably harm our nation. He could use this power to take over internet traffic, block any website he deems unacceptable, stop emails, and even alter search results to only show flattering articles about him and his policies.3 He could even deploy the military within the United States to suppress political protesters.

This may read like a dystopian novel, but if we don't act to stop Trump, it could become our reality.

MoveOn is ready to do everything in our power to put a stop to Trump's baseless, dictatorial move. Eddie, can you rush a $3 contribution to fuel MoveOn's emergency nationwide protests on Monday?

Yes, I'll chip in to help fund MoveOn's emergency protests from coast to coast.

FW: Alert—Illegal national emergency declaration

Hi Eddie—We wanted to make sure you saw our urgent message from yesterday.

Hi Eddie—We wanted to make sure you saw our urgent message from yesterday.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump yesterday declared a national emergency to bypass Congress and divert billions of dollars to his racist, wasteful border wall.1 We cannot let Trump get away with this dangerous, unconstitutional power grab.

That's why MoveOn is launching rapid-response actions all across the country this coming Monday, February 18. Together, we'll fight back, protesting Trump's emergency declaration, demanding that Congress overturn it, showing solidarity with immigrant communities, and making it clear that this kind of behavior is unacceptable for any American president.

We urgently need to raise $200,000 in the next 48 hours to organize protests across the country this coming Monday. Will you chip in and help us fight back against Trump's undemocratic emergency power grab and his attacks on immigrants?

Please click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.

When Republicans controlled Congress, Trump couldn't get his wall. And when Democrats took back control of the House of Representatives, he shut down the government for 35 days. But he still didn't get his wall.

Now, Trump's taking a page directly out of the classic dictator's playbook and is circumventing Congress and the will of the people by declaring a state of emergency under phony pretenses in order to pursue his aggressive anti-immigrant agenda. If Trump can get away with this, then there are no checks and balances left. He could declare a national emergency to push through any policy he can't get through Congress. We've got to take a stand.

But to pull off this first massive wave of protests across the country, we need to raise $200,000 in the next 48 hours to rent stages and audio equipment, print and ship posters, set up livestreams, and coordinate with MoveOn members and scores of allies all around the country who will lead events in their own cities and towns.

This is a critical moment; our democracy is on the line. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in to help protest Trump's racist, undemocratic emergency power grab.

Trump's justifications for declaring a state of emergency to fund his border wall are filled with lie after lie, but they also serve as a convenient cover for yet another one of his desperate lurches toward authoritarianism—and the potential consequences could not be more dire.

The truth is, Trump has used every tool at his disposal to continue his cruel attacks on immigrants and asylum-seekers—from separating families, to tear-gassing asylum-seekers, to detaining children in cages. And now, he's taking his attacks even further and subverting our democracy to do it.

Trump could have just opened the door to a set of broad legal powers that have the potential to irrevocably harm our nation. He could use this power to take over internet traffic, block any website he deems unacceptable, stop emails, and even alter search results to only show flattering articles about him and his policies.2 He could even deploy the military within the United States to suppress political protesters.

Congress has the power to overturn Trump's emergency declaration. Democrats, and even some Republicans, have previously spoken out.3 But to get Congress to act, we need a massive outcry. Together, we must demand that Congress reassert control over the budget and take back this illegal authority from a power-mad White House.

MoveOn is ready to do everything in its power to protest this baseless, dictatorial move and demand that Congress and the courts overturn it. But to turn out thousands and thousands of people to protest on Monday, we need your help. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll help stand up to Trump!

Thanks for all you do.

–Emma, Michael, Elsie, Ilya, and the rest of the team

P.S. Last time MoveOn moved this quickly to launch national actions, we turned out more than 100,000 people at 200 events on two days notice. But putting together events of this magnitude isn't easy, and it isn't cheap. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in to help fund events to protest Trump's racist, undemocratic emergency power grab.

MONDAY: Attend a Presidents Day Protest against Trump's fake emergency

Join a rapid response event to fight Trump's #FakeNationalEmergency and racist deportation force.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump has declared a national emergency to fund his racist, anti-immigrant wall and deportation agenda.1

This is an undemocratic power grab from an unhinged man unhappy with a Democratic Congress that will not indulge his temper tantrums.

In response, a number of partners have called for Presidents Day Protests around the country on Monday, February 18 at noon local time (or the time local hosts deem best). The reception to this day of action has been electric: over 150 events with over 10,000 RSVPs are already on the map! Together we will stand against Trump's fake crisis and racist deportation force and stand with immigrant, Muslim, and Black and brown communities.

Click here to find and join a Presidents Day Protest. If there's not already and event near you, you can also create one!

Trump's fraudulent national state of emergency and constant attacks on immigrants, following his unhinged government shutdown, fly in the face of the will of the American people. In the 2018 election, Trump and his Republican allies ran on a platform of building a wall and criminalizing immigrants and asylum-seekers—and lost by millions of votes.

We can—and we must—do better. We can live up to our nation's aspirations to welcome immigrants seeking a better life for their families. We can invest in resources to more quickly process asylum requests. We can confront the humanitarian crisis the Trump administration is escalating—while refuting the manufactured national security crisis Trump and his cronies are promoting through their xenophobic lies. And Congress can swiftly act to vote to end this fake "state of emergency"—which is why we need an immediate national outpouring in defense of democracy and in solidarity with immigrant communities.

Can you join us on Monday at a Presidents Day Protest?

Yes, I'll be there!

No, I can't attend. But I want to sign a petition.

Thanks for all you do.
