Add your name: The House must investigate Trump's finances

Will you sign and share the petition demanding that the House Oversight Committee chairman launch a formal investigation into Trump's finances?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I'm Annette Handley Chandler, a MoveOn member in New York, and I started a petition to House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Jason Chaffetz, which says:

Investigate Donald Trump's businesses and finances to avoid entanglements and possible conflicts of interest. Protect us all and launch a formal probe.

It is in the interest of the citizens of the United States to know the entanglements and potential conflicts of interest that Donald J. Trump's businesses and investments have with his job as our president. We want to make sure that presidential decisions are made in the best interest of our country and its citizens, not in the interest of Mr. Trump's businesses.

That's why Rep. Elijah Cummings and 17 fellow members of the House of Representatives already called on Rep. Chaffetz to use his position as chair of the House Oversight Committee to pursue this investigation.1 And why we all need to add our voices to call on Rep. Chaffetz to follow through on his commitment to hold the next president accountable regardless of party.

Earlier this month, Rep. Chaffetz affirmed this commitment in an interview with the The Daily Caller, stating that it is his panel's "job and responsibility ... to oversee all expenditures by the executive branch, no matter who the president is."2

Will you sign and share the petition demanding that the House Oversight Committee chairman launch a formal investigation into Trump's finances?

And while Trump tweeted just last night that he would leave his businesses "in total," vague statements on Twitter—where he has lied and misled the public countless times in the past—are not enough. Trump can't tweet his way out of a profound conflict of interest. So long as he or his family continue to own businesses through his Trump Organization, his personal financial interests will conflict with the nation’s.3

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

When Trump threatens MoveOn ...

Trump responded to MoveOn's campaign with a threatening letter from his lawyers. But we didn't back down.

Dear MoveOn member,

Long before Donald Trump announced that he was running for president, MoveOn member Angelo Carusone started a petition calling on Macy's to stop carrying Trump's brand of products because of Trump's bigoted attacks on President Obama and his long history of despicable behavior. MoveOn put together a powerful campaign demanding that Macy's dump Trump.

Trump was outraged, and Trump's lawyers even sent Angelo a threatening letter. But we refused to back down.

Not only did we not back down, we continued the fight for years. And ultimately, we won. Macy's dumped Trump.1 NBC cut ties with him.2 We've been fighting against Trump for a long time, and we know what it takes.

To be clear, what we're facing now is far more difficult than convincing Macy's to dump Trump. It's the greatest challenge that we've ever faced.

I'm telling you this story for a reason: MoveOn knows how to deal with difficult situations. We know how to work relentlessly for victory and win in the long run, even when there are major obstacles. Being in the opposition—while not our preference by a mile—is what built MoveOn. It's our bread and butter.

Remember the anti-war movement that mobilized millions of Americans under George W. Bush? Or the fight against Bush's ultimately failed attempt to privatize Social Security? Or when Nancy Pelosi took charge of the House and stymied Bush's legislative agenda? MoveOn members were critical in all of those moments of progressive might. Those are the fights that powered us to growth, victory, and political power.

It's going to take grit and guts to stand up to Donald Trump and his enablers when they try to slash Medicare ... or when they bully, stifle, and distract the media from his corruption ... or when they try to ban Muslims from the United States ... or when they decide to march toward another war. And it will require more resources than MoveOn's ever had in its 18-year history. But know this: When MoveOn members take action in great numbers, it makes a huge difference.

Today is Giving Tuesday. Which is why I'm asking you today: Will you make a monthly Giving Tuesday gift to MoveOn to help us oppose Donald Trump every step of the way in the weeks and months ahead?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month this Giving Tuesday to stand up to Donald Trump's hateful agenda.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Trump and his deplorable team are gearing up to build a wall on our border, create a government registry of Muslims, dismantle environmental protections, bankrupt our nation to benefit the super-rich, and let Wall Street run wild—all while treating our national coffers like a funnel into Trump's personal piggybank.

We can't let these outrages go unanswered. We have to fight Trump's agenda every step of the way. We cannot give an inch.

Will you donate monthly to MoveOn to help ensure that we'll have the ongoing resources we need to stand up to Donald Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress on every important fight?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month this Giving Tuesday.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign my petition to stop a Big Pharma/GOP donor giveaway?

We need to invest in medical innovation in America, but we shouldn't do it by handing over control to Big Pharma and Republican donors.

Dear MoveOn member,

We need to invest in medical innovation in America—and Congress has spent years negotiating a pretty decent bill. But in the final days of this Congress, that 21st Century Cures bill has been hijacked by Big Pharma and big Republican donors. And the House of Representatives is likely voting on the bill tomorrow.

Will you join me in calling on my fellow members of Congress to put a stop to this harmful bill that would line the pockets of Big Pharma and put patients' lives at risk?

Stand up to Big Pharma and vote NO on the 21st Century Cures Act until we get a better deal.

From the beginning, I've argued that that any "cures" bill must include substantial new funding for medical research (via the National Institutes of Health), or it's not going to cure anything. Democrats and Republicans had agreed that a medical innovation bill would not go forward without substantially more money for NIH, but the Cures deal has only a tiny fig leaf of funding for NIH.

21st Century Cures doesn't reduce crushing drug prices. It doesn't really expand the invention of new cures. And it doesn't increase access to lifesaving therapies.

What does it do?

  • Legalizes fraud: It's against the law for drug companies to market drugs for uses not approved by the FDA. You can't sell a headache pill as a cure for cancer. Drug companies have paid billions in penalties for "off-label marketing." Instead of following the law, they've cozied up to Congress to have the Cures bill shoot holes in it.

  • Covers up bribery: Currently, drug companies have to disclose the buckets of money, gifts, giveaways, and free trips they give doctors and hospitals as kickbacks to use certain drugs. Once again, drug companies cozied up to Congress to gut that disclosure rule, allowing any gift related to "medical education" to be exempt.

  • Hands out special deals to GOP donors: A major Republican donor to Mitch McConnell's Super PAC has big business plans to sell dangerous, unproven stem cell treatments before they have been approved by the FDA as safe and effective. Now that donor is collecting on his investment. The Cures bill creates a special deal so people can sell these treatments without meeting the FDA gold standards for protecting patient safety, undermining the integrity of the FDA and the safety of untold numbers of desperate patients.

We must stand up to Big Pharma and say "no" to this destructive bill. Click here to sign my petition to Congress.

There's another scary thing hidden in this bill: For two years, Republicans have paid lip service to our nation's opioid crisis while refusing to spend money on it. Now that Donald Trump has won the presidency, Republicans have agreed to set aside a few million dollars to address the crisis on the condition that the Trump administration will have complete control over the money once he takes office.

There's more: Medicare cuts, making life harder for people with disabilities, raiding money from the Affordable Care Act, even a gun provision—but not even a 1% increase in funding for NIH.

Not everything in the bill is bad. Republicans have included some bipartisan, noncontroversial provisions in this bill—and have declared that all of those good ideas will die, today, unless we also agree to make it easier for giant drug companies to commit fraud, give out kickbacks, and put patients' lives at risk. That's not compromise. It's extortion.

On November 8, a majority of voters supported Democratic Senate candidates, and a majority supported the Democratic presidential candidate over the Republican. The American people didn't give Democrats majority support so we could come back to Washington to roll over and play dead. They sent us here to say NO to efforts to sell Congress to the highest bidder. They sent us here to stand up for what's right.

We need to invest in medical innovation in America, but we shouldn't do it by handing over control to Big Pharma and Republican donors. Tell the House and Senate to say NO to this deal and keep fighting for a better 21st Century Cures Act.

Thanks!

FW: An important request

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw this message from our board president, Justin Ruben. Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving!

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw this message from our board president, Justin Ruben. Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving!

Hi fellow MoveOn member,

This is Justin Ruben—I was the Organizing Director at MoveOn while George W. Bush was president. I run a parents organizing group these days. I’m writing you today to say few things:

First, it’s important that we don’t lose hope. It’s okay to cry and mourn and hug our loved ones closer. But the worst thing people of good conscience can do is become “lost in the wilderness” while the radical right runs roughshod over everything we believe in. So yes, we should mourn. And think about what went wrong. And how we can do better next time. But we have to keep our hope alive, always. And never, ever give up.

Second, we don’t always win, even if we are on the right side of history. But our ongoing work makes more wins possible. While I was at MoveOn in 2004, we ran what was at the time the biggest people-powered campaign ever to stop the re-election of President Bush. We worked so hard, but we came up short. It was heartbreaking. But we picked ourselves up and still kept at it. Two years later, we took back the House and Senate. Two years after that, we helped elect Barack Obama president.

We were only able to do these things because we never, ever gave up and never stopped organizing. Our work together paved the pathway to taking back Congress, ending the war, and electing President Obama for eight years.

Which leads me to my third point, which is: We’re going to need to organize harder and do more than we ever have before. Donald Trump is a unique threat to our democracy, and MoveOn now has its most important mission ever, one we never imagined we'd face. Those of us who are women, immigrants, refugees, Black people, Muslims, LGBT Americans, Latinos, and so many others are under even greater threat. Our typical efforts won't be enough. Which is why I have an important request:

Can you chip in $5 a month to MoveOn? Your ongoing support will help build the momentum we'll need to stop Donald Trump and a GOP-controlled Congress from tearing our country apart.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

An urgent request (election recount)

Something extraordinary is happening. In just hours, more than 80,000 MoveOn members have joined with Democracy For America members and others across the country in calling for an audit or hand recount.

Dear MoveOn member,

Something extraordinary is happening.

In just hours, more than 80,000 MoveOn members have joined with Democracy For America members and others across the country in calling for an audit or hand recount of election results in three states with razor-thin margins between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton is leading the national popular vote by more than 2 million votes—but the Electoral College could be decided by fewer than 100,000 votes spread across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

It's critical that voters have confidence in the outcomes in these states. But according to Wisconsin and Michigan state laws, only a presidential campaign can ask for a recount. And thus far, the Clinton campaign hasn't taken that step—but Jill Stein, the Green Party's presidential candidate, has.

To meet the deadlines for a full recount in three decisive states, the Stein campaign must raise $2.5 million by Friday at 4 p.m. Central Time. They've already raised more than $2 million in less than 24 hours.1But there's still about $500,000 to go.

So here's an unusual request—one I couldn't imagine making before this moment:

Will you pitch in to the Jill Stein campaign's election integrity fund BEFORE Friday's deadline—and help trigger an election recount in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania?

Click here to chip in directly to this important effort to verify the election results in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

To be clear:

  • The electoral results are not likely to change. Yet, if we are to have a functioning democracy, we must verify the vote. Why? Seventy-five percent of the electorate votes on paper ballots which are then scanned into a machine, but we never double-check to look at those ballots and make sure the machine counts are accurate.2

  • MoveOn members worked tirelessly to defeat Donald Trump by electing Hillary Clinton in this election. MoveOn members did not endorse the Green Party's presidential candidate, Jill Stein. But we do agree with the Stein campaign that a recount is needed. And they are leading the charge to make sure it happens.

  • Public trust in the integrity of our elections is a bedrock principle of our democracy. But a recount can happen in Wisconsin and Michigan only if a presidential campaign requests it. And the Clinton campaign hasn't acted. So the Stein campaign's effort is the only way to set all three recounts in motion. Triggering this process may also help pressure states to ensure they prioritize vote tally processes that can't be hacked and can easily be verified in cases of close races.

Click here to contribute directly to the Jill Stein campaign's important effort to verify our election results.

And be sure to read the donation page that the Stein campaign has set up, which fully explains their recount plans.

Thanks for all you do.

—Ilya, Jo, Manny, Anna, and the rest of the team

P.S. One big reason that this effort has a good chance of succeeding is that it's been spreading organically over a very short period of time. So once you've chipped in, spread the word! You can click here to share this campaign on Facebook, or forward this message to your friends.

Add your name: Hand recount or audit in key states

When we hold an election in this country, every vote should be counted fairly and transparently. That's an essential principle of our democracy.

Dear MoveOn member,

When we hold an election in this country, every vote should be counted fairly and transparently. That's an essential principle of our democracy.

Here's what we know about the elections held two weeks ago: Hillary Clinton is leading Donald Trump in the popular vote by more than 2 million votes1—but the results in a few key states mean that the outcomes of the electoral vote are likely to come down to as few as 100,000 votes. That’s why Americans deserve to be fully confident that all votes in this election are counted fairly before the Electoral College meets in mid-December.

There is an opportunity right now to give us greater confidence in our elections, both this year and in the future—by asking for an audit or hand recount in close states including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Will you sign our petition asking for an audit or recount in key states?

Ask for an audit or hand recount in key states so the American public has confidence in the election results.

Leading computer scientists and election security experts have urgently called on election officials to transparently verify the results that have been reported by auditing the paper ballots—the actual votes cast—in key states and precincts where only computer results have been tallied.2

To be clear: the electoral results are not likely to change. However, experts are saying we shouldn't place all of our trust on a computer alone when the actual votes are in front of us.3

If you believe that our democracy shouldn't rely on computer tallies alone, then sign our petition and ask for an audit or hand recount in key states.

Researchers have repeatedly exposed critical vulnerabilities in electronic voting machines, and in a year like this when the result was close and unexpected and where election hacking repeatedly made the news, we owe it to our democracy to make sure everyone can be as confident as possible in the outcome.4

This is worth repeating: Americans deserve to be confident that all votes in this election are counted fairly. Fortunately, we don't have to trust a computer to know the true results of this election. In most counties in key states, there's also a verifiable paper trail of votes cast. We can all be confident in the results of the election by just double checking the votes as they were cast.5

That’s why we are calling on the 2016 presidential candidates and election officials to ask for an audit or hand recount in key states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

"Heil Trump"

Last weekend, hundreds of white supremacists energized by Donald Trump's victory gathered in Washington, D.C. The hate that spewed out was almost unimaginable.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last weekend, hundreds of white supremacists energized by Donald Trump's victory gathered in Washington, D.C.

The hate they spewed was almost unimaginable.

The keynote speaker questioned whether Jews are human and lamented that America is no longer a "white country," while members of the audience gave the Nazi salute.1

They called for a 50-year moratorium on "non-European immigration."2 They called Islam a "disease."3 And they chanted "heil Trump."4

These are the people that Trump has brought out of the shadows.

We must double-down on our work toward an inclusive America and not allow such hateful views to gain any more steam.

Can you chip in $5 a month to ensure that we have the ongoing resources we’ll need to do this vital work?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

I'll be honest—right at this moment, we're not ready for what's coming at us.

But we're hard at work—and we'll keep working day and night between now through Inauguration Day and beyond to build the grassroots campaign organization we'll need.

Already, we're putting plans into place to:

  • Organize and support peaceful community actions across the country to bring people together and show Trump that we will not back down from resisting his toxic agenda.
  • Stand with and defend our communities who will be hit hardest by a Trump administration, including Muslims, immigrants, women, Latinos, Black folks, and LGBTQ Americans.
  • Organize in the key states and districts where we’ll need lawmakers to stand with us against Trump’s appointments and agenda.
  • Expose Trump's corruption. Trump hasn't even been sworn in yet, but he's already using his new status to enrich himself and his family—at the expense of the American people.

A Trump presidency and unified GOP control of Congress may be the greatest threats we have ever faced. Will you chip in $5 a month to make sure that we have the resources we need to stand up to hate over the next four years?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Deadline tomorrow: Need your input re: Trump

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw Anna's message from the other day. We'll be analyzing the results of our MoveOn member survey on Wednesday morning

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw Anna's message from the other day. We'll be analyzing the results of our MoveOn member survey on Wednesday morning, and wanted to make sure you had a chance to weigh in! Click here to take our two-minute survey now.

Dear MoveOn member,

In the wake of last week's devastating election, we are developing plans for our work together in the context of a Trump administration and GOP control of Congress.

Our path forward is determined by MoveOn members, so we need to hear your thoughts now.

Will you take a short survey to let us know about the actions you’ve taken since Election Day, how you're feeling, and what actions you would like to see the MoveOn community take togetherin the face of a Trump presidency and Republican control of both houses of Congress?

Click here right now to take a two-minute survey and let us know what you're already doing in response to the election, and what kind of actions you'd like to take with MoveOn in the time ahead.

Millions of us are having acutely important conversations in large and small forums around the country. How will we make our communities safe for everyone already targeted by Trump and his followers? How can we support President Obama in doing everything he can to safeguard the nation prior to leaving office? What is our strategy to halt Trump's dangerous agenda in Washington once he takes office? And, of course, what is the path for progressives to take Congress and state legislatures in 2018, and the presidency in 2020?

Those are the kinds of questions we're wrestling with together.

Hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members are already in motion. We've decried the electoral college, and urged its future reform. We've urged Congress to help block the appointment of Trump's white supremacist chief adviser, Steve Bannon. We've begun calling on local community leaders to resist Trump's "deportation force." And MoveOn members are organizing thousands of different local actions, online forums, and peaceful protests.

Even as we grieve, we're already organizing. And as we organize, we must plan for the road ahead.

MoveOn’s core strength comes from millions of passionate members nationwide. That's why, as we develop our national strategy for the challenges ahead, it’s urgent that we hear from you right now, Eddie.

TODAY: Call the Senate, Stop Bannon!

Donald Trump wants to give Steve Bannn a set of keys to the White House, but we can't let that happen.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump wants to give "Steve 'Turn On the Hate' Bannon" a set of keys to the White House, but we can’t let that happen.1 Can you spend five minutes fighting back? Read on!

As one of his first big post-election moves, Trump announced his appointment of Bannon—a known white supremacist, anti-Semite, and misogynist—as a White House chief strategist and senior counsel.2 This has been followed by a spate of horrific announcements, including Senator Jeff Sessions—a man who's on record as calling the NAACP "un-American"—as Trump's pick for attorney general.3

And while MoveOn is working with allies to fight the most odious appointments, we're also narrowing in on Bannon's appointment to make sure his truly hateful, bigoted politics aren't normalized at the core of the White House.

That's why MoveOn members have sprung into action, generating upward of 350,000 signatures on a petition to senators and House members, demanding that lawmakers use every tool at their disposal to stop Bannon's appointment.4 And just last week, we generated the first 8,000 calls demanding the same.

Now, it’s time to pick up the phone and ask Senate members to sign on to a "fire Bannon" letter being circulated by Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and already signed by progressive leaders Senators Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and others. It is critical to get senators to publicly state their opposition now, before Bannon's appointment is viewed as a fait accompli.

Please call:

Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand

Here’s where to call: 1-844-311-4726 (All you have to do is dial this number, enter your ZIP code, and you'll be connected right away.)

You can say: "There is no place for a white supremacist, anti-Semitic misogynist in the White House. Please sign on to Sen. Merkley's letter asking Donald Trump to fire Steve Bannon."

Trump's appointment of Bannon has been heralded by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, as well as the chairman of the American Nazi Party and other ultra right-wing pundits who believe Bannon will be able to help ensure the fulfillment of Trump's most bigoted campaign promises.5

An excerpt from Sen. Merkley's letter to Donald Trump reads,

"... it is your responsibility to put an end to the crimes of hate and prejudice sweeping our nation. These wounds to our national citizenry are of your making. It is your responsibility to rectify the damage. You have the power as President to move beyond the hate-filled rhetoric of your campaign.

"We call on you to repudiate your campaign attacks against diverse communities of Americans.

"We call on you to address the American people and demand that all Americans end their verbal and physical attacks and replace acts of hatred with acts of kindness.

"We call on you to exclude the proponents of discrimination and hatred from the ranks of your Administration, and that includes immediately firing Steve Bannon as your Chief Strategist."

Please pick up the phone now and make your voice heard loud and clear.

Each of Trump's picks deserves a storm of public outrage. But for now, MoveOn members, as well as our allies in Congress and across the nation, will start by focusing our energy on ousting Bannon, because we cannot risk normalizing the white supremacy and bigotry at the heart of his politics.

Thanks for all you do.

—Justin K., Victoria, Maria, Stephen, and the rest of the team

P.S. Here's the full text of Senator Merkley's letter to Donald Trump, followed by the current list of co-signers:

Mr. President-Elect:

Your campaign conduct and Electoral College victory have unleashed a wave of verbal and physical assaults against our fellow Americans. In just the last six days, the Southern Poverty Law Center has documented hundreds of acts of discrimination and violence toward many of the ethnic and social groups you attacked in your campaign. These attacks are absolutely unacceptable. We condemn them. We stand united with our fellow Americans.

Unfortunately, these acts of hate have been enabled by your campaign strategy of promoting bigotry, racism, and sexism. It is the logical consequence of your campaign attacks on and discrimination aimed at Hispanics, African Americans, veterans, immigrants, women, Muslims, Jews, and individuals with disabilities. Millions of Americans see a President-elect who has chosen to knock them down rather than to lift them up. Your conduct has empowered too many Americans to act on their darkest impulses.

This is the wrong vision for America and the wrong path for your coming Administration. We call on you to change course. We urge you, as our future President, to join us in rejecting hate and embracing respect for every ethnicity, race and gender. We urge you to join us in fighting for a nation free of discrimination, where every child has the opportunity to thrive and to contribute according to his or her ability. We urge you to join us in fighting for our Constitutional vision of equality and opportunity and the vision in our Pledge of Allegiance of liberty and justice for all.

As you assume the mantle of leadership in office, it is your responsibility to put an end to the crimes of hate and prejudice sweeping our nation. These wounds to our national citizenry are of your making. It is your responsibility to rectify the damage. You have the power as President to move beyond the hate-filled rhetoric of your campaign.

We call on you to repudiate your campaign attacks against diverse communities of Americans.

We call on you to address the American people and demand that all Americans end their verbal and physical attacks and replace acts of hatred with acts of kindness.

We call on you to exclude the proponents of discrimination and hatred from the ranks of your Administration, and that includes immediately firing Steve Bannon as your Chief Strategist.

It is time for you to act boldly and powerfully to put the nation on a path of healing. For the sake of all Americans, we call on you to rise to the challenge.

Signed:

Senator Jeff Merkley
Senator Mazie Hirono
Senator Elizabeth Warren
Senator Sherrod Brown
Senator Ed Markey
Senator Bernard Sanders
Senator Al Franken
Senator Ron Wyden
Senator Debbie Stabenow
Senator Tom Carper

The sixth stage of grief

The final stage of grief over the election results isn't acceptance—it's organizing. And we have no time to waste.

Dear MoveOn member,

We are all grieving the election of Donald Trump in our own way.

Shock, denial, anger, bargaining, and depression—each stage is important to the healing process.

But the final stage of grief in this case isn't acceptance—it's organizing.

We have no time to waste. As one of his first staffing decisions, Donald Trump chose Steve Bannon, a white supremacist, to serve as his chief strategist and senior counsel in the White House.1 And that was only the start of a series of atrocious and dangerous policy proposals and announcements of key appointees.

Defending ourselves and our fellow Americans—including the up to 3 million immigrants Trump has now promised to deport—and protecting our democracy from a Trump presidency is the most important mission in MoveOn's history.2 And to do it, we're going to need you more than ever.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help the long-haul effort to stop Donald Trump and a GOP-controlled Congress from tearing our people and country apart?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly to help build the mass movement that can stop Trump's most extreme policies.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We’re putting plans into place now to:

  • Organize and support peaceful community actions across the country—the first of which we organized with partners last week in cities and towns across America—to show Trump that we aren't going to go quietly into the night and that he can expect passionate opposition from progressives at every turn.
  • Speak up and stand together across the communities who are going to be hit hardest by a Trump administration. We intend to do everything we can to work together to stop hate crimes and the devastating policy proposals that we know Trump intends to advance—such as banning Muslim refugees, tearing immigrant families apart through deportation, and overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • Organize and build relationships within the new Congress to block Trump from advancing his agenda—which includes taking health care away from millions of Americans by repealing Obamacare—and do everything we can to prevent his most radical appointments from taking positions of power, starting with white supremacist Bannon.
  • Build our capacity—rather than ramp down and cut expenses after a big election push, as many organizations do. This is a time to ramp up—and FAST.

Can we count on you to stand with us as we work day after day, month after month to stop Donald Trump and his disastrous administration from destroying our country?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Remember: We won the popular vote. A majority of Americans agree with the progressive values we share. That's important.

Even as we grieve and contend with what the next four years are going to look like, we have the power to control our destiny and fight together.

Our jobs are important. The work starts now. If you're ready, let's go.

Thanks for all you do.

Stop Steve Bannon: Add your name

There is no place for a white supremacist, anti-Semitic misogynist in the White House.

Dear Eddie,

Each day brings more and more terrible news about the government Donald Trump is assembling, starting with his appointment of white supremacist Steve Bannon as chief strategist. That's why, in the past few days, upward of 280,000 MoveOn members have already signed a petition to Congress urging lawmakers to use every tool at their disposal to make sure Bannon never holds that title.

Will you sign now to send a clear message that Bannon's bigoted views are unacceptable in the White House?

MoveOn and our allies are prepared to resist the onslaught of the Trump administration with all our might, and we're starting by opposing this dangerous appointment.

Add your name to a growing and outraged community of Americans who are joining together in one voice to say: STOP Steve Bannon!

Thanks for all you do.

—Jo, Mark, Schuyler, Iram, and the rest of the team

Dear MoveOn member,

In one of his first big post-election moves, Donald Trump has chosen Steve Bannon, an openly misogynistic, anti-Semitic, white supremacist figure, to serve as his chief strategist and senior counsel in the White House.

Tell members of Congress that we urgently need them to step up to stop Bannon's appointment:

Members of Congress must stop Donald Trump's appointment of Steve Bannon as a White House chief strategist and senior counsel. There is no place for a white supremacist, anti-Semitic misogynist in the White House.

Once again, Donald Trump has made it clear that his administration will embrace policies that pose serious threats to millions of Americans. And it's up to MoveOn members to help make sure Congress holds the line.

Trump's appointment of Bannon has been heralded by former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, as well as the chairman of the American Nazi Party and other ultra right-wing pundits who believe Bannon will be able to fulfill Trump's most bigoted campaign promises.1

Trump has said recently that he would attempt to be a president for all Americans. Yet by choosing Bannon as a top advisor in one of his first big moves, Trump continues to demonstrate that he's far more interested in peddling a dangerous and divisive agenda than in working toward real solutions to our country's challenges.

We need to build the collective force necessary to put members of Congress on notice that we expect them to vehemently oppose Bannon's appointment, using all the tools at their disposal, including holds on all further Trump appointments.

Click here to add your name now, and please share this petition with your family and friends.

Thanks for all you do.

Eddie, need your input re: Trump

[Petition] Stand with undocumented immigrants in Inwood

Undocumented immigrants like me are under attack. Will you add your name and urge mayors across the country to stand with undocumented immigrants in this moment of crisis?

TELL YOUR MAYOR:
Stand with undocumented immigrants in Inwood and protect sanctuary cities.

Trump has said he will deport millions, and anti-immigrant harassment is already out of control. It is time for all mayors to issue a public statement to declare America's cities and towns as sanctuaries of safety that will not allow local police to do the work of immigration agents, and for mayors to do all they can to stand with immigrant communities.

In a sanctuary city, officials implement policies to restrict local police from turning immigrants over to federal immigration agents and declare in no uncertain terms that immigrants are welcome. Without these measures, undocumented immigrants are left vulnerable to racial profiling, detention, and deportation.

United Against Hate handmade banner

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week's election was devastating, but it's important to say this: The work you did as part of the United Against Hate campaign was essential and, in many ways, laid the groundwork we'll need to build on as we take on our most challenging effort ever—standing up to a Trump administration.

Whether you went door to door talking with voters, made phone calls, sent text messages, got on a bus to a swing state, or chipped in, thank you for being part of this campaign. And in the hard fights ahead, it's people like you—people who got up and took action—who will be among the leaders in the important work to stop the Trump Republican agenda. So from all of us, thank you.

We know we have work to do, and to prepare for that, we want take a moment to appreciate our work together, debrief the campaign, and talk about what comes next. There are two United Against Hate debrief calls this week. RSVP for the one that is better for you:

Wednesday, November 16 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT

Thursday, November 17 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT

Here's some of what we accomplished together:

We made 2.3 million calls, sent 2.99 million text messages, knocked on 290,000 doors, and spoke to 85,000 voters.

In Nevada, we helped elect Catherine Cortez-Masto, the first Latina to be elected as a U.S. senator. Along with the elections of MoveOn-endorsed Tammy Duckworth in Illinois and Kamala Harris in California, we quadrupled the number of women of color in the Senate.1

With a razor-thin margin, Maggie Hassan won in New Hampshire, and now the state is represented by an all-female federal delegation—and all four are Democrats.2

MoveOn members like you came together in eight key states to organize and connect with each other under the banner of United Against Hate, and that is going to be key to resisting Trump and the Republican Congress.

Less than 24 hours after it was apparent that we had lost the Electoral College, MoveOn members across the country organized hundreds of gatherings of solidarity, resistance, and resolve. As we take care of ourselves in the wake of Tuesday's results, we are also committed to standing up for what is right and to defending anyone who is a target of Trump's bigoted agenda.

This week has been painful, but together we have risen and will continue to stand up in the face of adversity. Join a call this week to connect with other MoveOn volunteers, hear a special thank you for all your efforts in this election, and gear up for the work that is yet to come.

Join the United Against Hate debrief call tomorrow evening.

Can't make it tomorrow? Join Thursday's call.

Thanks for all you do.

—Victoria, Matt, Gabriela, Katherine, and the rest of the team

An important request

We have to keep our hope alive, always. And never, ever give up.

Can you chip in $7 a month to MoveOn? Your ongoing support will help build the momentum we'll need to stop Donald Trump and a GOP-controlled Congress from tearing our country apart.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.
