Girlfriends

Makayla is blessed to have two besties, Olivia and Greta. We threw an impromtu party for Olivia's 1st birthday on September 20th and I'm freaking out because Makayla is right behind her in just two months. Aaaa! Olivia got the sweet taste of real sugar yesterday, which she seemed impartial to. Makayla swiftly grabbed it from her hand and shoved it in her mouth before I could intervene, ruining the experience for sweet birthday girl. Greta followed suit and Olivia was done. And by the looks of it, we'll have a sugar addict in our family. This girl is 'died and gone to heaven' elated to have tasted something so much better than peas and plain oatmeal. So much for the no sugar til she's one rule.

Mak is 10 months tomorrow and personality is starting to shine through. She's still laid back, loves food more than anything, is tough as nails, and still is tiny as can be. I can't wait to be done with the 6 month clothes that she still fits into. Her brother loves her dearly and watches out for her when I'm preoccupied in the kitchen. She loves peek-a-boo, bathtime and touchy feely books (child angrily slaps the page if the horse isn't fuzzy). She dislikes diaper changes, things on her head, smoothies with too many veggies hidden in it, washcloths and when I have to do chores around the house while she's awake. Hello, world revolves around princess, right?

Koen is nearing 5 1/2 and is so fun. I love the way his mind works and the funny things he doesn't know he's saying. He told Justin yesterday that I need new cabinets because the current ones are crap. I concur. He calls us Justin and Erika, not mom and dad. It's a little irritating. He loves "homeschool". I say that loosely, because it's not consistent, but it's quality time spent together without Makayla and I let him play as much as he wants to - the whole point of retaining him this year. He is way into soccer and loves that dad is his coach, for now. He is obsessed with dinosaurs and knows way too much about them. He was talking about Pacheosephalasaurus in regular conversation the other day and I briefly worried he'd never find a girlfriend. However, he currently has three real girlfriends, one that he's already married to and has moved homes with. He says to me, "I have to find her an old ring on the ground, clean it up". Uhhh....

6 and 7 months

Eating solids for the first time. Ko is thrilled to feed her - 6 months

This tiny girl can fold right in half and she'll stay this way if you pick her up - 6 months
She's starting to have a lot to say about everything, but you have to work hard for a laugh

These next two pics were taken within seconds of each other

The drama starts early
This little peanut is now 7 months old. For a tiny thing, she packs a mighty punch and my poor boobs are usually the recipient. Lingering around the 11th percentile in height and weight, we wonder who this girl is taking after and if she'll get to enjoy making it to the 5 foot mark in adulthood. She's less bored these days, now that she can roll and scoot to most destinations. She sings da da da all day long and still rolls her tongue (or trills) when she's irritated or tired. She is still mistaken for a boy, even when wearing pink, bows and floral prints. A man in his 70s at the post office the other day questioned my gender accuracy..."really? Are you sure?" When I told him that she was indeed a girl, he left with a bewildered look on his face without saying anything. Sweet Makayla, it's the bald thing, I'm almost positive. This chick is adored, and we are so blessed to have her in our family.

Mak is 5 months old

Raspberries all day long.

This is a magic rug. I can get so much done while she's lying here and not a peep.

Wait for it...

Clearly, he must earn her trust.

Happy child, you have my heart.
Brother and sister at 5 months.

We're just cool like that.

4 months old

Warmer weather means naked baby time. Whoop!

This be my "spit up like a champ" pose.

3 month comparison

This is probably a more accurate comparison now that Makayla and I are the same age in this picture - 3 months. Still looking like the Moore genes are taking the lead, but perhaps I see a little Denbrook in there now. One major difference is disposition. This sweet child rarely has a bad day; you can almost see it in the picture. On the left we have eyes shooting daggers, skepticism and a hint of contempt. On the right we have puppy dog face, innocence, a child eager to smile at any given moment. When she reaches the age 2 mark I will compare her pic to daddy. His baby pictures are far and few between.

Makayla's name continues to elude the family. At the moment she goes by Mk, Kiki, Makay, and is often still called Makenzie, Makenna, Evelyn, Katelynn, Koen and baby boy. She loves to see who can open their mouth the widest, is drooling/spitting up like a boss, and prefers to stand in your hands, while you're also standing (not seated, please, that's too comfortable). Cuddling is a thing of the past. I've included baby holding as part of my workout routine, not to mention insanely heavy car seat bicep lifts. Girl's got some tricks, including stuffing her entire fist and wrist into her mouth til she gags, baby "swearing" just like her brother did, and she has the longest butt crack I've ever seen. What is that? But oh, how adorable is that squishy booty.

We have a 2 monther

I'm stealing this idea from the best photographer I know:) Size 12 shoe vs 15.
Our kiddos will likely get their chub later on in life when it's not so cute.

And we're done taking pictures.
How has it been two months since this child exited my womb in the most dramatic and explosive way possible? She's a keeper and so adored. Makayla is very easygoing, loves car rides (where she'll sleep soundly until we slow to 10 miles per hour or stop), likes to cry at 100% volume with zero warm-up, loves diaper changes and bath time. She sleeps well now and is most fascinated with her crazy brother who believes she's always freezing, so he piles blankets on her body four feet high.
