What's up doc??

Here is a glimpse of our lives lately...

Sick kids...

This is what I trip over almost every morning...

Our son the thespian...
Ethan was a Native American in the school Thanksgiving Program...

????????????????
We still wonder if there was a mix up at the hospital...
If not then it is all from Jason's gene pool!!

The queen of the castle!!

glimpse noun, 1) a brief look at something, verb, 2) to get a quick look at something

I gotta go!!

While on our vacation back in September you can imagine how many restroom visits we made with 4 of us being kids and 3 of us being women...you can also imagine the frustration that "man with bladder made of steel" (aka Jason) felt every time he heard "I gotta go pee/poo" (that was the kids, myself and the grammies were much more ladylike in our requests). After visiting approximately 3.4 zillion restrooms I must say, Legoland wins my vote for cutest dang restroom signs in California.

bathroom noun, a room with a toilet and a sink where people wash

To boldly go where no man has gone before...

Last Friday (Dec 5th) I had a ton of errands to run and lucky me, Jason was off for the day to help. We dropped Hannah and Joshie off at grammy's house and began the insanity. Our first stop was at the Orem Employee Credit Union which happens to be downstairs in the Court Building. Jason had to run to his office and so as we parted ways Jason kissed me on the cheek and said enjoy your strip search. As you enter into the court building you are met by security guards and police officers. It's like airport security only usually much faster. On any other visit I have been asked are you going to court, to which I reply that I am going down to the credit union. After knowing that the guards have always sent my purse through the x-ray scanner, me through the metal detector and then send me on my way. Well on this particular day I walked in and said hi to the guard. He said hi and didn't ask where I was going. He took my purse and sent it through the x-ray, sent me through the metal detector and instead of giving my purse right back he proceeded to empty it out one item at a time until all that was left was the popcorn in the bottom, left over from the movie we went to over Thanksgiving break. I figured that they had changed their security procedures and that Jason knew that and that is why he had made the strip search comment. After the purse was emptied and filled back up the guard proceeded to use his metal wand to scan my person. Up to this point we had both been awkwardly quiet and out of sheer discomfort I began rambling on about absolutely nothing. After "wanding" most of me he asked "so, what brings you to court today?" I said that I was actually just going down to the credit union. He looked like he was going to throw up and handed me back my purse and said "I am so sorry, none of this was even necessary". I laughed and told him that I was getting worried that he was going to break out the latex gloves and he turned a very bright shade of red. I commented on his bravery in searching through my purse and that by doing it he had gone where no man had gone before...the poor guy was so embarrassed!! My purse is a complete disaster 99.9% of the time...Jason refuses to search in it for anything...I could tell him there is a $100 in it and he still wouldn't go near it!! You don't believe me....

The popcorn at the bottom of my purse...

The contents of my purse...

Needless to say I will make it VERY clear that I am NOT going to court next time!!

Hair Day!!

I have been talking about doing Hannah's extensions myself forever. I can do twists and basic braids and puffs myself but the extensions scared me to death. On Sunday at 4:00 pm I decided to give it a try. We spent an hour taking out the extensions she had in and then started braiding in the yarn. It took just over 4 hours but I did it!! They aren't as tight as I would like them and the parting isn't the greatest but practice makes perfect. Hannah was really excited and insisted on 2 pony tails the second I finished the last braid. I love the yarn...it is so soft and it is so much lighter in weight than the synthetic hair we have had in the past.

yarn noun, 1) knitting thread, spun wool 2) a story, a fictional account

Monday Memories...

This memory goes back to the day Ethan was born. My pregnancy had been miserable. I had already had 6 different surgeries to have kidney stents placed and at 34 weeks Ethan was breech and not showing any sign of changing his mind. I don't blame the little guy, after all he had been through already I can understand his stubbornness and not wanting to turn around. My doctor wanted to schedule a 'version' to turn him on Friday. My doc said that the version would most likely start labor and that was fine with him because of all of the complications we had already had. It was Valentines Day weekend and my family was insanely busy at the flower shop. I asked my doctor if we could wait until Monday so my mom would be able to watch Brian if I did in fact end up delivering. He wasn't thrilled with the plan and let me know that if my water broke I would be having an emergency c-section due to Ethan's footling breech position. We scheduled the version for Monday at 1:15pm. Sunday night I wasn't feeling well, I hadn't showered for 2 days and had not eaten much that day. Late that night I had a overwhelming feeling to shower and eat but did I...nooooooo. At 4:00 am I woke up and was soaking wet. I got up to go to the bathroom and I gushed water the whole way. My heart began to race as the realization that my water had broke hit me. I woke up Jason and asked him if he thought I had enough time to shower before we left. He gave me the "yeah right " look and so I went and called the hospital. I told the nurse that I was 34 weeks pregnant with a footling breech and my water had just broke. She said to call and have an ambulance come right away. I told her that we could get there just as fast ourselves and then I headed upstairs to get Jason. I got to our room and immediately started having back to back contractions. That is when I heard the shower start. Are you kidding me!! I can't shower but he can??!! Jason's mom had stayed the night so she could get to the hospital if we ended up having the baby. She was now banging on the bathroom door telling Jason to get out and that I was going to have the baby on the bedroom floor and that she has seen his naked behind before and she will bust down the door and drag him out of there if she has to...it was all very amusing. Jason eventually got out of the shower and we headed out to the truck. As I went to get into the truck Jason said "wait" and rushed back into the house and returned with towels...he was worried about his seats getting ruined...again, are you kidding me??!! Jason ran 2 red lights and drove 70 mph on the way to the hospital. When we got to the hospital the nurse in labor and delivery said "Dr. G. is on his way" the second she saw us coming down the hall. I asked her how she knew to call my doctor because I hadn't told them who I was when I called. She told me they only had 1 footling breech on their high risk patient list and figured it was me. Dr G. showed up and politely said "I warned you this might happen". I was in an OR within 15 minutes of getting to the hospital. As Dr. G. delivered Ethan he said "Jason, look at this. His cord is wrapped around his neck 2 times and has wrapped his leg to his body. If we would have done the version this little guy would not be with us. It's a blessing that Jen's water broke when it did." Our families showed up shortly after Ethan arrived and I offered 20 dollars to whoever would bring me a chocolate donut and 50 dollars to whoever could convince my nurse to let me shower. I was denied both and ever since then I follow every prompting I get...no matter how insignificant it seems. Four days later I had my kidney stent removed and I went home with a brand new, healthy baby boy.

4. Post the picture on your blog and write about it

This was taken in Dec 2004. We were at my mom's house and Jason fell asleep in "his" chair. We tried to wake him up but he was sound asleep so we had a little fun at his expense. You should have seen the flailing of the arms when he woke up and couldn't figure out what was on his head!!

No Worries...

As the future President of our nation is being decided, I am sitting anxiously in front of the TV hanging on every word that is being said. The news just reported that Obama is the winner of the election and I went into the family room to share the news and this is what I found...

Journey To The Center of The Earth

Mom: The news just announced that Obama is the new President.
Them: Could you move away from the TV?
Mom: Please??
Them: You're making us miss it!!
Mom: Okay.

At Brian's school they had a mock election today. The school sent home a letter explaining what they were doing and asked us to talk to our children about what the election was about and who we were voting for and why. When Brian got home today I asked him who he voted for and he replied "Obama". I was a little surprised and asked him why he chose him. He replied "I knew most kids at school weren't going to vote for him and I didn't want him to feel bad that he got the least votes".

Star Wars Days at Legoland...Day 6

It was Star Wars Days at Legoland the weekend that we were there. The kids (Jason included) were super excited...they watch the Star Wars movies at least once a week and the boys have every Star Wars toy that has ever been made. We arrived at the park before they opened and we were some of the first people in line.
