I finally realise that aging is not only a battle that we human beings have to face, but also a challenge that every material thing has to overcome...
The main pipe in my kitchen bursted. It came as a surprise because the pipes are all hidden inside the kitchen cabinets and we didn't see it coming.... until the dirty water seeped through the cabinet walls and overflowed onto the kitchen floor. At first, we thought there was a blockage somewhere. But when the plumber came and examined the pipes, we realised that due to prolonged usage, the pipes were already corroded and hence sewage water was flowing out through the cracks. Hence we have no choice but to replace the whole pipe. The main pipe in the toilet will have to be replace too, in case it gives way soon too...
So, Gordon and I spent the whole weekend packing the kitchen and getting it ready for the renovation today. ha ha..we haven't been clearing the kitchen cabinets since mum passed away 11 years ago. Didn't realise that she has bought sooooooooo many plates, cups, bowls, cutlery etc. We threw away 10 bags of rubbish just by clearing 1/3 of the kitchen cabinets. I am actually thankful for this experience as it forces us to clean up the place. We have been procrastinating for the past 11 years...
We were actually quite worried about the renovation. We are worried that the cabinets will be totally spoilt and the whole place will get super dirty. But we prayed and we trust that God will watch over us. Thanks to God, so far so good... as I am writing, the workers are still here working... but I see that they are quite careful and responsible in the work... And I thank God that this happened when Gordon is home from hostel so I won't be feeling totally helpless...
Shall end here. Update on our battle against aging and deterioration at another time! :)
