Reece as a 4th grader

I just returned from my first 4th grade parent teacher conference. Mrs. Montoya gave Reece rave reviews. His area of strengths are: great reading fluency and comprehension, understanding math concepts, natural speller and problem solving. He has good classroom behavior, gets along well with others and is polite and helpful. The subjects he likes best are P.E. and reading. He likes P.E. because "it gets my energy out" and he likes reading "because it gets my brain worked up". His least favorite subject is math because it "is wicked boring". The special class he likes best is art and he likes best about himself that he is active.

Reece and I have a bumpy relationship. We are both strong willed, independent, stubborn, intelligent people. I definately have my work cut out for me when it comes to parenting this child and trying to help him develop his God given talents and goodness. It is so encouraging to know that I haven't completely warped him and that he is enjoying a succesful school year, thus far. I am proud of Reece and love him very much.

inquiring minds want to know...

Me: Quincy don't touch that worm it's dead.
Quincy: How can it be dead if it's not squished flat?
Quincy: Oh and mom, how do worms sleep?
Me: I don't know- we'll have to google it and find out.

A new accessory

Who is this big kid that demands to eat at the counter? Where did our baby go.

Quincy, Bella, Trey and the "hat" feeding the ducks at the park.

Wind gusts would blow the hat off Trey's head and he would chase it around the grass. It was so cute.

Trey discovered a fashion accessory he couldn't live without. For several days the blue hat went everywhere with him.......even to bed.

It's back.....

My absolute favorite show on television is the Biggest Loser. There is just something so empowering about individuals taking control of their lives and making any sacrifice necessary to get healthy. I love watching the contestants metamorphasize right before my eyes.
What's gotten under Julian's skin?

She was quite cranky tonight. In the spirit of competition I created my own little 30 day challenge- For the next 30 days I am taking meat out of my diet. I have been bombarded by propaganda touting the benefits of a vegetarian diet so I figure why not for 30 days. In college, about 13 years ago, I was sported a vegetarian diet for 2 months- It didn't work well because I was too lazy to prepare alternative dishes and didn't take the time to get informed. I am better prepared to take this plunge and I hope to report that I can run faster and jump higher because I am a little lighter.

I found a 1/2 marathon

I know it's a bit early but the sooner I make this public the better (once it's out there I won't back out)

Check it out http://www.rnrseattle.com/

Looks like fun. Anyone, anyone?????

I learned something new and useful today

Everyday I learn something new- Trust me- I listen to a lot of talk radio. Today I actually learned something new that I can USE! Yes!
I learned how to get all those hard to reach places (in the bathroom or window seal, or laundry room or shower door or quite frankly anywhere) sparkling clean and definately sanitized.
1.Soak a cotton ball in bleach.
2.place the cotton ball in those hard to reach places. the soft pliable cotton ball can be placed anywhere
3. put a little pressure on the cotton ball, releasing the bleach and watch even the tightest of spaces (where all the really disgusting mold hides) become sanitized.
4. throw the cotton ball away.

Happy Sanitizing

in the future

I am making this goal a matter of public record as a motivation tactic. I worked really hard to get in shape for my triathlon and would like not to only maintain, but improve that shape. I decided to follow some suggestions of fellow gym members and find events throughout the year, to participate in, so I keep up my workout pace. Next event.......
Prison break- October 25th. It's a 5k, 10k or 1/2 marathon run/walk. My goal is the 10k (6.2 miles) run. We actually run at the Idaho prison- the sight of inmates will definately be motivation enough to run the whole distance as fast as I can. Anyone else interested in a run?

its a must

Having a child who doesn't know how to swim can be hindering. Having a child who thinks they know how to swim when they actually DON'T can be down right dangerous! Quincy finally relented and allowed herself to be enrolled in swimming lessons. Her goal: to battle the lazy river at Roaring Springs all on her own.

Oh the irony.....

Quincy and Neighbor child: we're hungry.
Me: I made beef stew for dinner so if you want to eat that's what is available
Quincy to the Neighbor child: let's go over to your house and eat dinner.
Neighbor child: My Dad said he doesn't want neighborhood kids coming over to eat our food so I guess I'll just stay here and eat beefstew.
