The Crud...

...is getting to me, I think. Sore throat, ucky nose, sinus issues, blah, blah, blah.

Mark took the kids to church. I'm supposed to be resting, but I need to clean and do laundry and both go much more quickly when no one else is home. Which is a twisted thing, because I'd much rather just rest, or digiscrap, or edit some photos, or watch the idiot box. Oh well... off to put a load in and fold the one from yesterday.

A few more layouts...

I know you can't read this, but it's a timeline/overview of our vacation this summer. I am going to do specific layouts on things we did, but this one came together first.

Pretty self explanatory. :)

See! Here's one from the trip... more to come.

A peek at the snow we had right before Christmas this past year.

Some pics of me and Janie from the 22nd, when we went to Oktoberfest downtown...

Visitors!

Mark's dad Ron and step-mom, Maureen, arrived a week ago this past Thursday, 9/13. The kids were already in bed, so they waited until Friday morning to come over from their hotel. We visited at the house a bit, Jacob really enjoyed having them all to himself for a while. We all played the matching game that Grandpa and Grandma Mo brought for him. Jacob LOVES that game!

Ron, Maureen, Mark, Jacob and I had some lunch at Chik-fil-A and did a Wal-Mart run a bit later in the day, then went to pick Janie up from school at 3:15. She was so excited to see Grandpa and Grandma Mo!

That afternoon, Ron, Mark and Janie played putt-putt.

Jason (my brother) stopped for a short visit that night. He was heading west for a river float.

The next day, 9/14, started with soccer for both Janie and Jacob.

Mark and I attended a wedding that afternoon/night, so Janie and Jacob got to hang out with Grandpa and Grandma Mo for the rest of the day.

Sunday, 9/15, we all went to church and then headed over to Ron and Maureen's hotel for a dip in the pool.

Janie had choir at 4:00, so we dropped her off at our church and then went home. Ron and Maureen joined us at the house a bit later for dinner.

Ron and Maureen spent the weekdays (9/17 - 9/21) venturing off on little days trips.

On Friday night, 9/21, we all went to Janie's school's family picnic. Families associated with restaurants provided food (wings and spaghetti w/meatballs), and a bank provided pizza and bottled water. Every family brought a dessert. I really enjoyed getting to meet some more parents from Janie's class and just enjoying a beautiful, cool night with our family.

Saturday the 22nd brought more soccer...

... and a trip downtown to attend Oktober Fest, where I took 17 gagillion photos.

It was great having ya'll visit!

They're Loose!

(Copied from a ScrapChat post)

Last night Janie told me that she thought she felt a tooth coming in behind one of her lower front teeth. I peeked, and yup, there it was emerging behind her one of her front teeth. *gag*

I immediately had thoughts of having to have her baby teeth pulled as a friend of hers did... oh good lord, that was going to be awful. I think I turned green. I couldn't wiggle her teeth around at the time for some reason. I was cooking dinner, I think. We ended up rushing to get in bed and I forgot to check her teeth last night.

This morning as she was going upstairs to brush her teeth after breakfast, I asked her to let me see her teeth again and those bottom two front teeth are LOOSE! At 6 years, 8 months she finally has loose teeth! She didn't get her first tooth until 11 months, so I know it'd prob be later than other kids, but man... She was so excited.. beaming all morning. She can't keep her fingers off her teeth now. Can't wait to show her teacher! I told her to wiggle them as much as she wants with her tongue, but please not to put her fingers in her mouth while she's at school.

Here are a couple pics from this morning...

I will most definitely post pics of the gap when it appears.

Sick Girl

Janie's missing her first day of school today. She's had something chewing on her for a few days. She developed a bad cough last night. This morning she had a slight fever and more cough, so we decided to keep her home. She's now on the couch watching Narnia and not feeling so great with a 100.5 fever. The cough is better, but I expect it will be back this evening.

Jacob's benefit? A day full of tv. I'm off to fix lunch and do some more house stuff. I hope to blog about their first days of soccer and our vacation later today.

To preschool he goes...

Jacob starting preschool wasn't quite as a traumatic experience as Janie starting first grade was. Janie went to this same preschool for two years. Jacob knows the director and a couple of the teachers, several of the parents and knows the grounds very well. He was very comfortable heading into his open house visit on September 4th. The first day is always just a hang out with your kid at the school type thing, very laid back...come when you can, leave you want. Mark took a half day off of work. I dropped Janie off at school, then picked up the guys and the three of us went to preschool. :)

Despite the look on his face, he was very excited about going. This is his standard look now when I take his photograph.

At his seat...

With his teacher, who is new to us, but she seemed wonderful. I look forward to getting to know her better throughout the year.

Playing with a friend, her sister went to preschool with Janie.

Outside with his favorite toy... it's an awesome thing! Very good for teaching kids to take turns. We had to referee a bit on this day! :)

On the bench outside getting ready to leave...

After school Mark and I took him out to lunch at one of his favorite places, Rubios. He loved having us all to himself. :)

This is a picture from the following Thursday, his actual leave-him-there-by-himself first day.

Thanks for checking in with us!

On the First Day of First Grade....

Can I release a little before I officially start this post please? Thankyouverymuch.

WaaaAAAAAAaaaaAAAAaaa my baby girl is a first grader!! I can't believe it!! Where have the past six and a half years gone!? I now kick her out of the van at the curb... no more walking her to the play ground like we did in kindergarten. She walks into the building by herself!! *furrow brow* *jut out bottom lip*

Ok, so Janie started first grade on August 22nd. She adored kindy and loves first grade. She almost cried the Saturday after school started because she couldn't go to school. She did have her first soccer game that day, which helped her feel a little better, but she said she'd rather go to school. Coach Daddy wasn't thrilled with that statement. Daddy Daddy was, but not Coach Daddy.

A few pics from the day.
Janie's school isn't that old, but it was established in an older school building. Not so great considering room arrangement, modern conveniences, space for the teacher's stuff and all the kids, but there's something I love about a rectangle box of a school... maybe just that it's old school, reminds me of the ones I went to when I was young.

She gets out of the van in front of the school, walks through the hallway outside to the playground. When the whistle blows they line up at doors that lead directly into their classrooms. This was taken at one end of the playground area showing the back of the school and the doors into the classrooms.

Hiatus Over

The past six weeks have been awesome and fun and busy and productive and strange and lots of other things...

In no particular order:
1) vacation to AL/FL/TN
2) Janie started 1st grade
3) Jacob started preschool
4) Mark and I celebrated our 11th anniversary
5) I started a new (sort of) job - it's sort of a job, not sort of new :)
6) we got new cell phones (go Samsung!)
7) soccer started for Janie and Jacob, including 2x week practices for Janie

I'm going to cover a few of the less labor intensive topics first.

The Anniversary
Elizabeth offered to watch Jacob and Janie Friday night so Mark and I could go out for our anniversary, which was September 1st. :) We went to one of our favorites places, The Chop House. It was sooooo good! I was disappointed, though, that I couldn't have my usual Steak and Cheddar Sandwich, but the Fillet Mignon Oscar was ok in a pinch. :) We're getting kind of boring in our middle age - afterwards we went to CompUSA to look at gadgets. LOL

The Job
You all know about my obsession with Gymboree, well, they sucked me in and now I'm working new line every couple of weeks. Last night was my first night. I'm paid crap, no it's not even crap, it's less than crap - but it's not about the pay, it's about the DISCOUNT! Oh, and getting to socialize with other woman around my age and 8:30 cookie runs after Paradise Cafe marks everything off 50%.

I worked last night from 7:45 to 1:15 - yep 53 boxes of new, wonderful smelling (they do something to them, I swear), cute as can possibly be Gymbo clothes It was a long night after a long day, but it was very fun - the ladies were all great to work with and going through the new clothes is a treat. I came home with two dresses, two sets of socks and a pair of tights for Janie and a set of socks for Jacob - yes, the boy got jipped again.

I got Janie this dress (a size 9, my 6 yo daughter wears a 9) from their Harvest Leaves line, it's gorgeous! I can't wait for her to wear it.

Also this one from Bon Voyage...

The Phones
Right before we left for our vacation on July 31st (the kids and I, anyway) Mark ordered new phones for us. We decided to have them shipped to my sister's house as we would be there for a few days before leaving for Seagrove. Well, they weren't going to make it in time, so Mark arranged to have them delivered to us while at the beach. I think that's so odd... but it was pretty cool! They arrived one day after we had come in because a thunderstorm was threatening. We stayed in the cottage with the kids and played with our new gadgets.

I love my phone... it's a Samsung BlackJack. I'm all about the PDA, it's my backup brain.
