Daily Ten

- I woke up on my own before 7:00 after a wonderful night's sleep.  And the sun was shining, which made things even better.
- I made a point to start doing things I've been procrastinating, so I finally filled the mylar bags I've had kicking around for water storage.  That's 15 more gallons than I had before.  Every little bit helps!
- I finally vacuumed around the baseboards in the living room - something else I'd been putting off...
- We had a lazy afternoon and I cuddled with Matthew while watching a movie with the boys.
- I made banana muffins with agave nectar and yogurt. :)  They were a little bland, but they made for a good snack.  Of course David had eaten all the chocolate chips I'd planned on throwing in... That would have made them a lot better.
- The kids and I went to the fabric store to buy more fabric for the burp cloths, and I decided to ditch the minky I'd been planning on using.  After trying for a good half hour to pin it and line it up with the ribbon, I decided it's way too much work.  I need something crisp and easy to work with if I plan on doing as many as we've got planned!
- I helped another neighbor get ready for a move.  It's amazing how easy it is to scrub someone else's baseboards...  Why is so hard to do my own?
- Bryan "used his imagination" a lot, or at least that was his excuse for changing his outfit four or five times today.  He insists on wearing things that look similar to whatever or whoever he's pretending to be - a pirate, a clone trooper, Sportacus from LazyTown, a secret agent...  It drives me crazy, but at least he is being creative.
- I talked to my sister (and my other sister and my mom) about a new boy she's dating. :)  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one...
- David discovered the "Band of Brothers" DVDs and he's been watching them non-stop in down time.  He loves them.  I tried watching them with him, but it's all a little too violent for me...

Daily Ten

- I had an orthodontist appointment and found out that it's likely I'll get by braces off in time for my birthday at the end of September!  That's only 5 more months.  Hooray!
- I scrubbed the walls and floor of our downstairs bathroom.  Matt's still getting the hang of using the toilet so it was definitely necessary...
- We made our yummy healthy granola bars and they were gone within a few hours.  I'm just glad the boys like them!
- The boys had a friend over and they all played really well together for most of the afternoon.
- I played blocks with Ari and discovered that she's pretty fierce when it comes to knocking down towers.
- The boys and I played the Wii.  At least they were sports games and we were up and moving a bit...
- I bathed all three kids before dinner just because I was bored and needed something for us to do.
- We had chicken with Panda Express orange sauce for dinner and it turned out pretty good!  (David made Bryan wear Ariana's bib and sit on his lap to eat since he wasn't eating on his own...  David says Bryan will have to eat "like a baby" for the next couple days until he proves he's capable of eating well on his own.)
- David had a good wrestling match with all three kids after dinner.  Now Ariana likes to get in on the action as well!
- I worked on my blog format and like the changes.  Now if I could just convince David to buy me photoshop so I could get a cute header!

Daily Ten (for the past 2 days)

I've been slackin'.  Here's for the past 2 days again...

- The boys and I have done a lot of picking-up and organizing, though the house never stays looking good for long.  Still, it's good to be able to stay on top of things...
- We've been eating lots of strawberries - Ari loves them!
- Bryan and Matt had fun making a humongous mess in the sand table.  They discovered what happens when they use the hose with the sand.  As a result, I had to use the hose on them, which I think they actually got a big kick out of.
- We went on a walk and played outside yesterday afternoon.  It was perfect weather - so not like the winter weather we're having outside right now!  David is wishing we lived in Arizona...
- We got to celebrate Bree's birthday with her at Pirate Island!  The boys loved it.  We had a big room all to our selves and had lots of fun with the fam and Bree's friends.
- We went to the Children's Garden and Tulip Festival at Thanksgiving Point with some friends.  It was cooler than we'd expected, but the gardens were beautiful and the boys had so much fun running around.
- David had an awesome day at work - 21 apps in one day.  Crazy!
- Ari's b-day presents arrived - a fun music toy and a doll - and she was so cute playing with them.  She waved her arms around like she was directing music every time the music toy played, and she gave "besitos" to her baby doll.
- I finally started on the burp cloths we're making for compassionate service.  We've got like 20 women having babies this year, so we have to do something simple but cute (tight budget).  I'm doing them like this, more or less... Hope they turn out okay!
- Ariana's slept through the night two nights in a row!  Things are looking good.

Daily Ten (for the past 2 days)

- I got to help a neighbor get ready to move.  I enjoyed the opportunity to serve.
- Jose and Javi entertained the boys during the morning while I was cleaning and David was at work.
- David suggested we go to the mall Saturday afternoon, and of course I was more than happy to go.  Javi and I convinced him to buy some Toms shoes (I got some last week - they're so comfy!) and then we hit a great sale at the Gap and got cute things for the kids.  I love shopping when David's the one that pays. :)
- We got to do a barbecue in the canyon with Landin and his family to celebrate Landin's graduation from BYU.  The boys loved throwing rocks in the river and roasting hot dogs over the fire.  Ariana loved the dog at the fire pit next to us and kept waving to it and saying "hi."
- I got to help with Singing Time in Primary today.  It's such a fun calling.  Being in there really made me miss it!  The kids are so cute.
- I had a good scripture studying time in the afternoon and got all caught up on the Sunday School reading of the Old Testament.  I'm really enjoying it!  I can't remember the last time I studied from the Old Testament, and it's giving me all sorts of new insights.
- Matt, Bryan and I played the Spanish game "Oca a Oca" and I was impressed that Bryan knew the rules of the game so well.  I also got a kick out of watching Matt roll his dice and move his little marker.  It's fun that he's big enough to participate in the games now instead of just grabbing at everything.
- David had an awesome lesson with his deacons at church and later went to a Stake Priesthood meeting with several young men from the ward.  He loves doing things with "his boys."
- We had a yummy dinner of swiss steak, potatoes, corn, cauliflower, and grapes.  Mmmm!
- Jazmin and Landin (a die-hard Nuggets fan) came over to watch the Jazz/Nuggets game.  The Jazz killed the Nuggets, which was fun for us, but not so good for Landin...

Here's Ari after dinner tonight.  She'd been eating avocados. :)

Crying it out

I'm afraid Ariana's developed some habits that are really interfering with my sleep! She's gotten to where she'll nurse before going to bed around 7:00, then wake up wanting to nurse around midnight, and then again around 6:00 in the morning. That is way too often for a girl that just turned one, according to me anyway. So two nights ago, an hour after I'd fallen asleep around 11:00, she woke up wanting to nurse and I did not want to get up.  I just lay in bed feeling frustrated and even a tiny bit resentful, so David went in and tried to soothe her which just made her cry even more. After a while, I decided to go in, thinking that maybe she'd feel better if I held her at least for a little bit, but she wouldn't stand for it. When I tried to put her pacifier in her mouth she grabbed it and chucked it across the room, and when I tried to cuddle with her she arched her back and about flipped herself onto the floor. She was MAD! I was determined not to give in, though, so after trying unsuccessfully a few different times to calm her down I just left her and went back to bed. She fell asleep a little bit later (thankfully!!). All in all she cried for about an hour and a half.

I was nervous when I went in to see her the next morning, but she greeted me with the same big smile she normally gives me, as though nothing had happened. She hadn't been totally traumatized like I'd feared. So last night I went to bed, determined again to not nurse her during the night, and this time she woke up sometime between 5:00 and 6:00. I let her cry until 6:30, which I figured was a good, normal time to wake up. She was so exhausted from crying, though, that she went back to sleep until almost 9:00! Crazy girl.

I hate hearing her cry - she's usually such a happy, mellow little thing, so it's not something we hear often. And it surprised me to see how mad it made her that I wasn't allowing her to nurse. She's old enough, I guess, to know what she wants and show just how she feels when she doesn't get it. I just think I'll be much better off if I can get us both into the habit of sleeping through the night. I want to be able to wake up early on a regular basis to exercise, read scriptures, etc. but that's been so hard to do when I'm constantly waking up during the night to feed her. And then I hear of all these babies half her age who are sleeping through the night just fine!  It's just not fair.  So that's why I'm so determined all of a sudden. I'm usually not such a toughie. I'm hoping we'll just have a few more rough nights before things get better...  I'm trying to be tough, but I don't know much crying I can take!

Just look at this sweet face.  Can you blame me for giving in to her for so long? :)

Update: Last night (night #3) she slept a whole 11 hours without waking at all! Hooray!

Daily {Five}

- I got some good errands done while Bryan was at preschool, even though it was raining like crazy. Thankfully Matt likes puddles and Ari doesn't mind getting a little wet.
- The boys new shoes arrived (overnight shipping is the best!), and they were SO excited and wore them all afternoon around the house, running super fast and jumping off chairs just to show me how well they worked. :) Matt kept giving me cute "thumbs up," too. I should have taken a picture.
- Javi came over to use our computer and offered to watch the kids, so I went to the fabric store to buy things for Relief Society and had so much fun looking at all the fabric. I'm excited to start sewing again!
- I had some good play time with Ariana while the boys were entertained by their uncles. She gets so excited about things and jumps from one thing to the next as soon as something new catches her eye.
- We all went to Annalece's graduation dinner at her parents' house in Spanish Fork. David and I enjoyed getting to know her family and the boys had fun playing in her big backyard. Matt fell in a puddle and got soaking wet, though, so we had to leave a little early.

(It's Friday night and I'm tired, so I'm stopping at five...)

Daily Ten

- Besides saying "hi," Ari now says "all done" (or something like it).  It's really cute 'cause she does it with the sign as well.  Still no "mama" or "dada," but we'll take what we get. :)
- David forgot his computer, so we took it to his office and then he asked if we wanted to go up to Sandy with him to take a picture of a house.  We had nothing else going on, so we went.  It was a nice opportunity to just be together and talk, and it was fun to drive through our old Draper stomping grounds.
- We all played "I Spy" in the car, except the boys say things like, "I spy with my stinky, poopy eye..."  It's all David's fault.  He's the instigator of the potty talk around here.
- Some pest control people came and sprayed the inside and outside of our town home for bugs.  Hopefully we'll finally be rid of the ants that keep showing up in the living room...
- I ordered new summer shoes for the boys.  The best part about them - they're machine washable.  Stinky boy shoes are the worst!
- I also ordered some girly toys for Ariana.  I felt bad for not getting her something for her birthday, so a little late is better than never, right?  I just couldn't resist.
- I wore a baseball cap all day and it was nice to not have to worry about my hair.  Bryan took it off once, though, and I hurried and told him to give it back and he said, "Wow, I can see why you need to wear it - to cover up that crazy hair!"
- David started a special regimen of fish oil and niacin pills to help improve his cholesterol.  (The niacin turned his skin bright red and made him really hot, which was actually a little bit amusing because he didn't think it would affect him at all.)
- I finally figured out what I'm doing for our compassionate service baby gifts.  Now I just need to break out my sewing machine and figure out how to use it again so I can get started on making them!
- I caught the boys watching "Tinkerbell" on the Disney Channel.  Bryan insisted it was only because there was nothing else on, but I know better.  He's a total "Tinkerbell" fan.  :)  And I just got a "Tinkerbell" sippy cup for Ariana which she used for the first time this morning and seemed to like, so I guess we're all fans!  It's fun to be into something besides Star Wars and Transformers for a change...

Daily Ten

- Bryan had a fun time at preschool.
- Matt worked on his letters on the computer.
- I got some laundry done.
- Ariana ate peas, eggs, and raisins - all new foods.
- She had her one-year check-up and is doing well, except for the fact that she's only in the 5th percentile for weight!  (She weighs 17 lbs 10 oz)  She's also a little low on iron, so she needs to do iron drops for a few months.
- I returned some things to the mall and made it out without spending any more money.
- David got back from Arizona and had a great time.  He loves training and presenting!
- We had some thunderstorms this afternoon and Matt was fascinated (scared?) by the sound.
- My grandma bought Bryan a phonics reading kit at a garage sale and dropped it off this morning so Bryan got to practice reading with some new books.
- I watched the last part of "Idol Gives Back" and it reminded me how grateful I am for the blessings and privileges I enjoy (and too often take for granted).

Daily Ten

- It was Ari's birthday! I actually felt kind of emotional about it. Hard to believe my baby girl is getting big so fast.
- We had yummy blueberry pancakes for breakfast.
- We went up to Heather's house to hang out with her and Cami and Ari opened some birthday presents.
- We went to Wheeler Historical Farm and walked around and looked at the animals and tractors. It was a gorgeous afternoon and the kids had a great time.
- Matt took a late nap so Bryan got to play with the sand table all by himself. He told me he was a "bakery" and made lots of pancakes and pizzas.
- Ariana's eating more and more big-people food, even with just her two little teeth. For dinner she had cheese pieces, avocados, smashed peas, macaroni, and diced peaches. I love that she's becoming a more independent eater.
- We read a book about "Bob the Pirate" and the boys turned the living room into a pirate ship and pretended to be pirates for most of the evening.
- I gave all three kids a bath, which is something I usually leave up to David. I love the smell of clean kids. :)
- David got to fly to Arizona to train the soon-to-be agents down there. He also had the opportunity to eat dinner at the house of one of the vice-presidents he knows. I'm anxious to hear how things went!
- I finally had one of the mini Cadbury eggs that I've been hiding in the kitchen for the past three weeks. I've decided I've gone without sweets long enough and can get back to my normal diet. After going without sugar for a while, though, I'm not craving it as much as I was... Still, it's nice to not feel so restricted.

We had so much fun! Bryan seems to be a natural, despite a little mishap with the water. In his words: "Wow, that was embarassing!"

Matt did great for his first time, but I think he's more suited for hockey. :)

Sweet spirit

David had a special experience with Matthew yesterday afternoon.  David had made a slideshow with pictures of Ariana and our family from this last year, and he and Matt were watching it on our TV while listening to piano arrangements of the hymns.  After a little bit, David noticed that Matt was crying.  When he asked him what was wrong, Matt replied with his little lip sticking out, "Because I love my family so much.  I love you too, Dad."  As they continued watching, Matt kept crying and saying, "I love you, too."  What a sweetheart.  Who would have thought my little two-year-old could feel the spirit like that.  He's always been really sensitive and emotional, so I guess it shouldn't surprise me.  He's such a sweet little spirit and brings so much to our family.  We love you, too, Matt!

Celebrating Ariana

For Ari's first birthday we decided to invite all of our family over for snacks and cake and ice cream.  Nothing fancy, just an excuse to get together and celebrate our sweet baby girl.  David made a slideshow of pictures of Ariana that we had playing on the TV, so we mostly sat and watched that while we ate and visited.

Ariana enjoyed all the company, especially her little cousins.  Here's Maily, who's 6 1/2 months old already!

I wanted to do something girly for Ari's cake without doing anything too complicated. This was cute and easy. :)

Ari did not like the cupcake at all!

She refused to put any of it in her mouth, and didn't even like the feel of it on her fingers. David says she's just taking after him, since he doesn't like cake. (Weird!)

At least someone enjoyed the food! Little Cam turned one a month ago and loves eating big people food, especially when it's sweet.

Ari spent the whole night crawling around on her hands and feet like a little spider. Either she was confused after having a hard time crawling in her dress earlier, or her little knees were sore. Made us laugh, anyway.

She enjoyed opening a few presents, or at least she enjoyed playing with the wrapping...

Here she is "dancing" to a song Javi was singing while playing the bongo drums.  :) She bounced up and down to the beat every time he played.  I guess it wouldn't be a good birthday party without dancing!  Happy birthday, girl!

Our weekend

It's been busy the past few days so I haven't had time to do my "daily ten." Friday the boys and I went with friends to the Bean museum and then David and I got to go out on a date! Jose was nice enough to come down from Salt Lake to stay with the kids, so David and I decided to try out the new Magleby's restaurant that just opened up in Springville. It's in an artsy building with stained glass and murals so the environment was fabulous, and we got to eat our yummy food looking out onto Springville's Main Street. It was fancy and quaint at the same time. I loved it. Afterwards we saw a movie - "Date Night" with Steve Carell and Tina Fey - and since we're fans of them both we laughed a lot. It was just good to get out and have some time to talk and laugh and hang out just the two of us - something we need to do a lot more often!

Saturday I woke up before 7:00 with Ariana and decided to get some grocery shopping done before things got too busy. It was great! The store wasn't crowded at all, I could leave the boys home w/ David, and we were home by a quarter after eight and in plenty of time for David to head off to the office. I was super productive the rest of the morning, too, so it was a good way to start off the day. After David got home from work I took off for some more shopping and left him at home with the kids. (He had Javi and Jose with him so I didn't feel too bad...) I spent all afternoon looking for cute girly birthday presents for Ariana and didn't end up finding anything! There were plenty of baby toys, but we've got enough things like that, and she's still too young for the dolls, etc. that I would have liked to get. So I guess we'll just wait until Christmas to buy her what I had in mind. By then maybe she'll know what's going on when it comes to gifts and things. (I hope that doesn't make me a bad mom...)

Saturday night, after rushing home to change, nurse the baby, and grab a bite to eat, I met up with my brother and sisters at the Mt. Timpanogos temple to be there with Cassity (Bree's roommate) while she received her endowment. It was so wonderful to be there with all my siblings - the first time since we were all home for Christmas over a year ago. I felt so happy and at peace. I only wish David hadn't had to stay with the baby so he could have been there as well. Then it really would have been perfect.

Sunday after church we had a little birthday celebration for Ariana, who turns one tomorrow! We thought it would be a little tricky to get everyone together on a weekday so we celebrated early. It was lots of fun. (Pics to come...)

Now it's a gorgeous Spring day and we're resting a bit before David comes home to get us to go play some miniature golf. The boys have been begging to go for weeks, and it's finally nice enough to go for Family Night. Bryan's already planning on getting an orange club and a blue ball and keeps talking about who's going to be on which "team." He's turning into a golf fanatic, just like his dad! And I think it'll be Matt's first time actually playing! Should be fun!

Daily Ten

- I wasn't in the best mood this morning, but thankfully I got feeling better as the day went on.
- The boys played with the new sand table for over an hour! It did make a big mess, but it allowed me to shower and get ready in peace. Some things are worth a mess.
- We went to BYU to check out the Wymount apartments for my sister-in-law, Sara, who'll be moving here in July. They weren't as bad as we thought, and it was exciting to think that Sara and her family will really be here so soon!
- I made more of that yummy zucchini bread. It has been so great for satisfying my sweet tooth. (Still on a no-sugar diet...)
- The boys got to play at a friend's house and Bryan got in a water gun fight with the "big boys" next door. He thought it was so cool.
- Ariana and I got to go run errands on our own for a couple hours. Nothing like trying on jeans and looking at shoes with my girl. :)
- I found some great little bows (flowers) for Ariana's hair. She doesn't do the headbands anymore and her hair's so wispy it doesn't hold big bows yet, but these are the perfect size and they look so cute! Most of the time Ari looks more put together than I do...
- David got to play golf in the gorgeous weather with some co-workers. I was really jealous, and I don't even golf!
- For dinner we had yummy stir fry with fresh red and yellow peppers, broccoli, and zucchini. Mmmmmm. Bryan didn't love it, but Matt did! I can count on Matt to eat just about anything. :)
- I got to attend an uplifting Relief Society meeting on visiting teaching.

Daily Ten

- I was showered and all ready for the day before breakfast. Woo-hoo!
- I played a little indoor baseball with Matt and was amazed at how well he can throw a ball - fast and right to me! He's quite the little athlete.
- Matt was my little helper all morning and we got some good cleaning done. As he puts it, he's just "being a good brother."
- The weather was gorgeous today so we went to the playground for play group.
- We found out some friends of ours from the ward are staying in a town home right behind ours for the summer. They've got two boys Bryan and Matt's age so the four boys had fun running back and forth between our backyards and playing in the big grass area. I was just wishing we took advantage of the grass area more, so this will be perfect.
- We wandered around Walmart and looked at possible birthday gifts for Ariana. I got giddy looking at all the girly things - Strawberry Shortcake, Tinkerbell, Cabbage Patch dolls... It's all so cute! Of course she's still in the puts-everything-in-her-mouth stage, so we'll hold off on those things for now.
- I got out some old piano books and played for a little while while the kids played around me. Matt's finally old enough to restrain himself from pounding on the keys as soon as I sit down to play, which makes it nice. I need to play more often! (I could tell I was rusty)
- David got a ticket for box seats at the Jazz/Suns game tonight - last regular game of the season. He was soooo excited. Now, for his sake, I just hope they win!
- David brought home the food processor I'd ordered with his rewards points. I'm excited to figure out all the things it's good for! David also ended up giving me a fancy white watch he thought he was getting for himself... Turned out it the "picture was bad" online so he couldn't tell it was a woman's watch when he placed the order! :) Poor guy. The one thing he ordered for himself and it turned out wrong. (Not too bad for me, though!)
- We finally pulled the sand table out of storage and bought some sand for the boys to play with in the backyard. I told them they had to wait until tomorrow morning to try it out, though. I'm still not quite sure I'm ready for the mess...

Daily Ten

I wish I had something profound to blog about, but I don't. Here's our day...

- I ended up getting lots of sleep last night. I gave in to Ari's crying and went ahead and nursed her around midnight, so I didn't have to lay awake and listen to her cry like I'd planned. That's good and bad, I guess since it's going to have to happen one of these nights, unless she just magically outgrows that late-night/early-morning feeding...
- I woke up early and studied my scriptures before the kids woke up. It felt so good to have the upper-hand on my morning.
- We went to the library, which is seriously one of my favorite places - not the library here in Springville specifically, but libraries in general. I could walk the aisles and look for books for hours. (Nerdy, I know.)
- The boys played on the playground at the library in the 45 degree weather. (What happened to Spring??) Bryan made friends with some other kids there and allowed himself to be chased the entire time. He was proud of the fact that they never caught him.
- I ordered new photos to put in the picture frames in the living room. Doing what I can to change things up for Spring. New pillows and a slipcover are next on my list...
- Ariana started saying "mama!" I'm not sure if she relates it to me yet, but it's fun to hear her say it nonetheless. :)
- We got out the boys' favorite dance CDs - the "Imagination Movers" soundtrack and "Here Come the 123's" from They Might Be Giants. I love seeing Ari dance.
- Bryan was having a rough afternoon (he was super emotional for some reason) so I let him pick what we would have for dinner. He chose pancakes! Of course I made them super healthy w/ wheat flour, flax seeds and olive oil. (David and I had something different so I didn't care so much about the taste.) Even Ariana liked them! Combined with eggs and a green smoothie it made for a decent meal.
- It was a great TV night. All my favorite shows were on at the same time, though, so I had to flip back and forth between channels while munching on popcorn and folding laundry. Talk about multi-tasking. :)
- David played volleyball at the stake center - something he does now every week, which he loves. If I thought I still had any skills I'd go in his place one of these times, but I'm too chicken.

Daily Ten

- Bryan got to go to preschool and the weekly theme is pirates - one of his favorite things.
- I got the house put back together after not cleaning on Sunday.
- I found some great information about raised garden beds and container gardening. I'm determined to do something in our tiny yard this year, even if it's just tomatoes.
- We learned the first verse of the primary song "Nephi's Courage" to go along with our study of 1 Nephi 3:7. Bryan caught on pretty fast, although he's totally tone deaf. :)
- Matt and I read books - "Curious George," of course.
- Bryan and I played "Go Fish" (not my favorite, but he sure likes it).
- We delivered Easter treats to Nathan and Bree that my mom had sent in a package last week.
- David was asked to train all the agents in the Salt Lake area on the new computer tracking system used by State Farm.
- David did a great Family Home Evening lesson on journals, and Bryan was REALLY excited about drawing pictures of things he's done lately in his own journal. The boys also had fun looking at David's childhood journal and pictures of him when he was young.
- It's 10:00 and I'm going to bed. I hardly ever get to bed so early, but I'm going to try and not feed Ariana during the night, so I'm preparing for a couple hours of listening to her cry... (That part's not good, but the going to bed early is!)

Daily Ten

- Matt had AWESOME hair today. :) He insists on doing it himself and combing it straight up. Gotta love the fashion sense of a 2-year-old.
- We all went to church for the full three hours for the first time in weeks! No more sick kids for the time being - hooray!
- We went on a family walk in the nice but breezy weather. David and I always have good talks when we're walking.
- David figured out how to make delicious chicken on the grill! We had it in a spinach salad and it was superb!
- David's recommitting himself to eating healthy and exercising. Needs to work on that pesky cholesterol...
- I found a great recipe for zucchini bread using agave nectar. Tasted as good as the "real" thing but without the sugar - perfect!
- Bryan enjoyed listening to Book of Mormon stories on the computer. He kept asking questions so I know he was paying close attention.
- Ariana had her first dinner of real-people food: zucchini bread, avocado chunks, and grated cheese. She gobbled it up! I'm looking forward to not having to do purees anymore...
- Javi, Annalece, Landin and Jazmin came over to play games. We played a game called "Cash Flow" (Landin's pick) that turned out to be lots of fun! Kind of a glorified combination of Monopoly and Life... David won, of course.
- I realized I'm glad now that the boys share a room. I think the time they spend goofing off before they fall asleep has helped make them better friends. It's cute to hear them cracking jokes to each other as they lay in bed. (Their idea of a joke is finding a way to use a word like "bum" or "poop." What is it with boys and "potty talk?")

Daily Ten

- It was GORGEOUS today! I was outside barefoot for the first time this year.
- I got the bottom half of the house cleaned.
- The boys played in dirt and I was okay with it. We really need to set up our sand box...

- David cleaned both cars, inside and out.
- Ariana mastered walking behind her push-toy!
- Real Madrid lost to Barcelona and thankfully it didn't ruin David's day. A few months ago he would have been really upset, so he's getting better at handling losses. :)
- Matthew and I went on a little date to the grocery store - he's a great little shopping buddy when it's just the two of us.
- We ate dinner at our favorite Mexican place in Springville. Chips and salsa and fajitas - yum!
- David and the boys got free tickets to see the opening game of Real Salt Lake. (They tied.)
- Ari and I enjoyed a QUIET night at home.

Daily Ten

- I was up in time to cook steel-cut oats in our rice cooker for breakfast. I'd been wanting them all week but they take a while to cook and the boys were always too hungry too fast. It was worth the wait!
- Matt did "the letters" on starfall.com. It's the best website! I totally recommend it for kids learning the alphabet or learning how to read.
- The boys rode their bikes outside with neighbor friends, and then we played at the park. It was chilly, but the sun was shining so we pretended it was warmer than it really was.
- Ariana stayed content in her baby carrier the whole time we were at the park. I'm so glad that she's almost one and still likes being carried!
- The boys spent a good amount of time jumping from my bed into their "ocean" of blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. - one of their favorite things to do. As long as no one gets hurt and they clean up their mess, I don't mind it...
- I noticed how good Matthew is at saying "thank you." He's such a sweetheart.
- Bryan made Ariana laugh a lot. I love the sound of her little laugh. :)
- David took the boys on a surprise "date" to see "How to Train Your Dragon." They were SO excited and loved the movie. Even David said it was the best animated film he'd seen since "Cars" (and we're big "Cars" fans around here!).
- I got to go around and look at houses with Nathan and Allison. I love house hunting, but seeing some of these houses made me really grateful for where we live.
- David and I enjoyed Chinese take-out and good conversation once the kids were asleep. Nothing like a little mini-date at home on a Friday night.

Daily Ten

- More sunshine!! What a difference good weather makes!
- We went for a walk in the morning and the boys rode their bikes. They loved going over the "bumpity bumps."
- I got some laundry and cleaning done, which is always a good thing.
- The boys are getting old enough to help me more with the cleaning, which is a GREAT thing!
- I had my own "quiet time" and read my scriptures in the afternoon. I've decided I'm much more likely to read when I don't leave it as the last thing I do before going to bed.
- We went to the park in the afternoon - just couldn't get enough of the nice weather!
- Bryan and Matt had friends over to play. Four rambunctious boys in our little house is a little crazy, but I love seeing Bryan laugh and be silly with boys his age.
- The boys discovered live worms in the backyard. Of course I was totally disgusted, but they thought it was so cool.
- We snuggled and read several Curious George stories. Classic.
- David had an amazing day at work. They wrote 25 applications in one day - a record for the office!

Daily {Five}

- Sunshine and blue skies - need I say more?
- The kids and I went to Chuck E. Cheese's with some friends and the boys had a blast. Basketball and skee-ball were their favorites.
- We had lentil tacos for dinner - my new favorite thing. And brownies made with agave syrup to satisfy my sweet craving.
- I can nurse Ariana now without cringing. I think the medications and supplements are finally kicking in.
- David narrowly avoided a bad accident on the way home! A refrigerator bounced out of the truck in front of him on the freeway, but he was just far enough behind the truck that he was able to swerve in time and avoid being hit. Thankfully he had room and the lane next to him was open. I shudder to think about what could have happened...

Can't say I didn't try...

I'm going to miss seeing this - all the cute, colorful diapers hanging to dry. They're almost as cute hanging there as they are on Ari's little bum. Sadly, though, I'm giving up and going back to disposables.

Some things I've loved about cloth diapers:
- They're adorable!
- I didn't feel wasteful using them.
- They held in blow-outs really well (at the beginning, anyway).
- Ari never had a diaper rash and they're soft on her bum.
- I could adjust the absorbency, which came in really handy at bedtime.
- I didn't have to worry about buying diapers all the time!

The last few months, though, they just haven't been working well. I'm going to blame it on my washer (a front-loader, which is definitely not ideal for cloth diapers) and our extremely hard water. In order for them to keep absorbing and not stinking you need to find just the right combination of detergent, wash cycles, and methods for stripping the diapers of mineral build-up or whatever else might be causing problems. I tried to find the right combo for us - lots of hot-water washes, different detergents, water softeners, vinegar, bleach, antibacterial agents, sun-drying... Nothing seemed to work. I was constantly frustrated, and finally decided it's just not worth the stress.

I'm going to miss all those good things about it, though. Maybe sometime in the future I'll give it another shot, but for now I'm okay just stashing them away. At least we have them in case of an emergency. I feel okay, too, because I found a great deal on amazon for Seventh Generation diapers which are chlorine-free and more eco-friendly than standard disposables. They're definitely not as cute, but they work well for us and I don't feel as bad using them.

If anyone reading this is considering using cloth diapers, let me know and I'll tell you more about my experience.  I still love the idea and don't mean to discourage anyone. It just didn't work out for us right now as well as I'd hoped...
