Happy Birthday Nicolette Simpson

     What better way to do an online birthday party than having a blog hop. If you happened upon my blog today please go to Nicolette's blog to start at the beginning. You should have arrived here from Tonya's blog. Hope you are having fun seeing all the Disney projects. I realized after signing up for this hop that I didn't have much in the way of Disney themed items in my supplies. Luckily, my friend CallyAnn bailed me out. She makes kits (find her blog here) that you can put together to make your own scrapbook pages. One of the ones she makes is a Mickey and Minnie kit. This is what I used to make my project for today.   
     When I was 6 years old I went to Disney World with my brother, my great-aunt and my great-uncle. It was a magical trip and I hope that I am able to take my children someday. Maybe in 6 years when my youngest is 6 I will be able to go. This layout was made in anticipation of that event.

Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too Blog Hop

Welcome to Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too Blog Hop and Pooh's happy little corner at the 100 Acre Woods. Who doesn't love the cuddly loveable bear that gets stuck in a honey jar???

How do you spell "Tigger" T-I-double"guh"-errrrr, that spells Tigger! that's how!!!! "The wonderful thing about tiggers. Is tiggers are wonderful things.Their tops are made out of rubber. heir bottoms are made out of springs.They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy fun, fun, fun, fun, fun But the most wonderful thing about tiggers is I'm the only one. III'm the only one!"

Now, put these two buddies together and what adventures we shall have as will be demonstrated along the way in our hop today!!!

For my project I made a birthday card.

This picture is of the front of the card. The grass is cut from Dress Up Paper Dolls Cricut cartridge. The circle and the words are made using Sure Cuts A Lot.  The frame and Pooh are cut using the Pooh and Friends cartridge from Cricut. The photo realistic paper is from a stack I bought about 6 years ago on clearance at JoAnn's. The frame is cut from a textured wallpaper sample.

This is the inside of the card. The grass, words and the circle are doubles of those mentioned above.  I used foam to make the balloons pop off the page and a homemade spring woobly on Tigger.

Here is a close up of Tigger. I'll share a secret with you.... he was supposed to have his other ear, but the orange piece was so small it quickly disappeared after being cut... so I cut the ear off completely.

Here is a side view of my homemade woobly. I took a spring that had been lost from a kids toy (or something, not really sure) and cut off the ends so that it was sharp, then I twirled it into a piece of foam on either end and glued it to Tigger and to the card! Hope you enjoyed seeing my card. I really like this one!

Unscripted Sketches Challenge - Sketch #159

I am sharing a card I made based on sketch #159 on Unscripted Sketches.

It's hard to see in my amateur photo, but the edges of the card are inked with pink. This gives it a muted quality so that the red doesn't overwhelm the elegance of the inner paper. The two patterned papers I received in a swap I did with my RAK group (check it out here). The buttons and bling are also from one of the lovely ladies in my swap group! The pocket is a free svg file from SVGCuts. The stamps are both from a set from Studio G. I used Colorbox inks and then colored in the bird with a colored pencil. Thanks for stopping by!

     I am SO in love with the new file I just downloaded from SVGCuts.com. It is called Tea For You and Me. The file includes a bunch of different 3D projects including this teapot:

I can't decide if I want to make a matching tea cup next, or make another tea pot... there is also a card and two kinds of tea bag holders.... oh, if only I had more time... and my own Cameo! I want to make a crazy set Alice In Wonderland style... I want to make a prim and proper set. If anyone has any ideas how to make it sturdy I want to make a bright pink one for my daughter.... So much fun, had to share!

Vera's View Challenge

     I happened upon the Lily Pad Cards blog and decided that I couldn't not do this challenge. The photo was so beautiful that I decided to make it the background on my computer (which also made me remember the challenge). I decided to treat the photo like a card map. Here is the original photo:

     I found the flower svg's at Clips-n-Cuts, in fact, this is the site that I first saw the challenge on. The leaf paper is from a DCVW photo stack that I got on clearance at JoAnn's years ago. The butterfly and the heart sticker are from Close to My Heart. The fairy is from the SVGCuts Flitting Fairies file. The sentiment is stamped from a Stampin' Up set I got from my good friend CallyAnn. I am fairly certain, based on the package, that the star brad is vintage (I got it at a local closeout shop)!     The holiday that I am commemorating with my project is Nerd Pride Day. I have always thought of myself as a nerd, or possibly a dweeb. If you have ever wondered about the differences between nerd, geek, dork, and dweeb check this out:

 So, of course I had to make a book. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time! I chose to make the book from an empty frozen pizza box. These are great because, in general, they are 12 by 12 (the same as scrapbooking paper) I cut the box in quarters to make a six by six square with a spine.

Then, I took 15 pieces of white cardstock and cut them all in half. I then separated them into piles of five and folded them. 

I cut letter and number patterned pieces to separate each of the six sections and folded them over the white paper. These papers are from a kit I got on clearance at JoAnn's about 5 years ago.

Okay, this is the part where you can hopefully learn from my mistake. I then hand sowed  three of the sections onto the spine of the paperboard cover.

Here is how it looked when I was done a section. Then, I thought to myself, "I wonder if I could use the sowing machine to do this... will it be strong enough?" I tried it... quick and easy. That method is so much easier and faster, and less painful. It is also much cleaner looking. Although, I did have a bit of trouble with it pulling. I learned after the first sections to have the needle to the left instead of centered. Slow and easy works great... go to quick and it tends to slip (at least for me). 

So, here is the book all sown together. Underneath you will see a paper bag, cut into a rectangle that is larger than the book laid flat. I used paper bags to cover my text books when I was in school, so this is a throwback to that. I folded over the top and bottom so that it was the same height as the book, and then folded the ends so that it was the same width. Once that is done the sides slide right into the "pockets" that are made on each end.

Here is the outside with lots of fun nerdy sayings. I also inked it with Close to My Heart chocolate distress ink to make it look broken in and well used!

As well as the patterned paper outside of each section I also glued six by six pieces on the inside of the covers. This is pretty, and it serves the purposed of holding the cover on securely. The paper on the back of the front cover was from a card kit my friend Deborah Foti got in the mail and the one on the back was from the same kit as the others. I hope you enjoyed seeing my project.

I have two projects to share with you today. The first one is a card that I made based on a card map found here (second on in from the left on the top). This site has a lot of amazing sketches for cards and I'll be going back there for more inspiration soon.

The tree on this card was a free download from Little Scraps of Heaven Designs. The butterflies and the clouds were cut from svf files from the KISS Spring collection from Scraptastical Kreations. The patterned paper is from a Recollections value stack that I got at Michael's. The tree trunk and the body of the butterflies are cut from a wallpaper sample book from Sherwin Williams. I added bling, some glitter and a sentiment and voila! This is the first card I made that I truly felt proud of.

The second project that I will share with you is not quite finished yet. The flowers are yoyos sown from fabric scraps that I had around. I glued them on to the green fabric after sowing line on it to make stems. Three of the yoyos have button centers and two are round beads. It gives a slightly different look since the buttons cover the edges and the beads allow the gathering to be seen. When I glued the fabric onto the paper the glue left dark spots. I thought to myself, "What can I use to cover these spots?" More beautiful butterflies from Scraptastical Kreations of course! All three layers of these are made with wallpaper samples. I love the shimmery effect of the green paper. I wish that my photo portrayed how nice that paper is. So, as I said, this project is not quite finished. Tell me what you think it needs and I will post it again soon in its finished state! Come back and see if I used your idea.

     For this project I made a card for my mother (which I will send, really I will).  My mom is an amazing woman that dedicated herself to making others feel well for many years. She owned a health food and vitamin shop for many years and always kept up with what was out there that could help people. She was always ahead of the curve and did so much good for so many people.
      So, whenever I get sick or feel bad I miss my mom more then than at other times. She always knew what to do to make me feel better, and I still call her to ask her questions when anyone in my family is ill. So, I thought.... what makes people feel better (other than their mother's)? Chicken soup of course! And, while my mother never would have given me chicken soup since she is a vegetarian, it still reminds me of her!

     I tried to create the illusion of depth with ink, but I don't think I accomplished my goal very well. I used ribbon for the noodles and chicken (or tofu!), and paper for the vegetables. I created circles in SCAL and then cut them in half and cut a semi circle off for the celery. The broth was created by using the back cover of a pad of scrapbook paper. That circle and the card itself were also cut with SCAL. I made the card by overlapping two circles and welding them!
