Classic Baby Shower

I got to help host the most amazing baby shower for my sweet friend Meredith last weekend. Meredith and I became fast friends our freshman year at the University of Alabama in our dorm.  We spent a lot of time together the next 4 years and were roomates in the sorority house one year too.  I love Mer.  She taught me how to wrap a present, stay up late, save things for the last minute, and I probably drove her crazy when we roomed together.  I think I left her notes to clean up her side of the room.  Oh my goodnes...I was a wierdo. We share a love of Alabama football, throwing a good party, cats, and crafting.  Anyway, she stuck with me and was my maid of honor in my wedding!  What a special friend.  I am so excited to help welcome her first baby into this world!

The shower was so beautiful. All I did was invitations and pictures. But this could be featured in a magazine y'all!  So many amazing details went into this.  Meredith can throw an amazing party herself so we all knew it had to be just as wonderful as she would do herself.  Our friend Holly hosted at her new house (y'all she had just move in 6 days before).  Everyone contributed beautiful silver pieces and vintage baby items.  The food was amazing.  The mom to be was gorgeous.  Seriously, my pics don't even do this justice.    First off, here is the invitation bundle I designed.  I also gave Mer some matching notecards for her to use as thank you notes.  The invitation came with an optional patterned background (we did not use this time but am including just so you can see) and a circular envelope seal.

Now onto the amazing shower...

I also got to take a few pics after the shower of Meredith and Gary.
That was fun! She's positively glowing.
Can't wait to meet this precious baby boy!

Kitchen Makeover - Painted Cabinets

Ever since we moved in a little over a year ago, I wanted to change the cabinets.  They were in good conidition and honestly not that bad, but I really didn't like how the oak cabinets blended right in with the lighter wood floors.  It bothered me so bad!  I tried to be content and live with it though.  Of course in a dream world with infinite funds, I would love to get new countertops, back splash and appliances...but again that's a dream world for us right now.  So, I did some research (hello Pinterest for days), gathered my motivation, and decided I would paint the cabinets myself and live with the other stuff for awhile longer!

I knew it would be a lot of work...and I was right.  It was a LOT of work.  It took over my life really and took much longer than I though it would.  I still had to live my life and do our normal activities, plus throw in a long weekend trip to Dallas and it was just over 3 weeks for me to do this project from start to finish. I worked on it in chunks.  So I would take off a few doors and do the frame and those doors.  Then I would move on to the next section.  Maybe not the smartest way to do it, but it's what worked for me doing this all by myself.

So, like I said, I did read a lot of posts on Pinterest and decided to go with General Finishes milk paint with their satin top coat. Originally, I was going to do the seagull gray color, but when I tested it out on a piece of wood, it really blended too much with our corian countertops and wall color (Comfort Gray by Benjamin Moore).  So, I decided to go with a bright white since our trim and pantry door are a bright white.  I was so nervous about this, but I do LOVE the way it turned out!

Here is the before pic of our kitchen just a few days after we moved in taken on my iphone.  Before we moved in, we (well a painter we paid) painted the walls from a dark green to the Comfort Gray and then we (well an electrician we paid) changed out the builder grade silver light fixture to this fun one from Pottery Barn!  We also changed out the cheap sink faucet to a much nicer prettier one:).  This definitely helped bring the kitchen a bit out of the early 2000's (when it was built).  But still I knew it was definitely not really my style.

And here it is now...after I painted everything and added a few more little things to fit with my style!  My son asks why I paint everything white, and I am guilty of that for sure.  I just love how white brightens things up and makes everything look fresh.

I'm so in LOVE!
And I feel so MUCH satisfaction that I did this...pretty much all by myself.
It took over my life and my sweet husband and kids got neglected for awhile.
But they all love it and are all so proud.
Makes me feel so satisfied.
Now, hopefully it will last.  I'm most nervous about it chipping and not lasting with 4 crazy kids.
This kitchen is very LIVED in.  I will definitely be anxious to see how the 3 tops coats I did hold up.
After doing a few sections and it taking 5-6 coats of white, I realized I needed to prime.
You aren't supposed to have to prime with the genral finishes paint, but I read some more and realized that with the snow white color going over a darker wood, I did need to prime.
Once I primed, things did go a bit faster with the white coats.
I sanded between coats as needed (if it got too rough or little dust particles got in).
OH, and I definitely spent a LOT of time degreasing and cleaning the cabinets before priming or painting.
Jeff helped me change out the knobs on the drawers to pulls.  I'm glad he did that part becuase it made me nervous to drill new holes. We got a little cabinet pull guide from Home Depot to help with that.  I would definitely recommend getting one of those if you are changing from knobs to pulls.

I kept these shelves open just for fun.  Love getting to display some of my fun dishes, and old things:).

I was worried that my black appliances would really stick out and I honestly don't mind them at all!
I am just embracing them and going for a lot of black and white farmhouse type accents.

This is the side of the kitchen we really live in.
A real life kitchen:).
I will never have a show kitchen.
It is used and loved and we have to have a little command center for the 8 billion school papers and bills that come everday!
The cake stand is some leftover birthday goodies for Jeff!

Two of my favorite accents in the kitchen that we have had for awhile...

I love farmhouse tables so much, that I actually have one in my kitchen AND
one in the dining room. Haha.
This sugar mold is another favorite accent of mine that I got on a FB yard sale site years ago.
The little ceramic things inside were from goodwill.  Isn't that awesome!?

One more look at my updated kitchen.
LOVE it so much !

So here is what I used:
General Finishes Milk Paint in Snow White
General Finishes Satin Top Coat
Primer
Foam brushes for the top coat
A good more expensive small and medium size paint brush
small paint rollers
silver pulls for the drawers from Home Depot

Fostering A Rescue Dog

I have never really liked dogs.  I'm a cat girl through and through.

But we recently decided we would foster a puppy through a local rescue group that my friend helps run.  Mainly we did this to see if having a dog would be a good fit for our family...especially Samuel. He has wanted one for a long time now.  And since he struggles sometimes with confidence and getting down a lot, we thought a puppy might really help him!

All the kids have been begging for a dog for awhile now.

So one day we went to see this little guy...

And brought him home!
His name is Hunter and he is some sort of mix between lab, australian shepherd,
and probably some boston terrier.
His mama was hit by a car and her litter of puppies stayed with her trying to nurse
until someone rescued them.

We surprised the kids after schoool, and they were shocked and excited!

And then my sweet husband left the next day for a 3 day work trip.

Did I mention I'm not really a dog person?  And I have 4 kids!

He did pretty well though.
Hunter is about 4 months old so was already crate trained about mostly potty trained.

He of course is by my side constantly because I'm the one who mostly takes care of him.
Again, did I mention I'm not really a dog person?:)

He is growing on me though.
He's smart and mostly sweet.
The thing that wears me out is the potty training.
I thought I was DONE with that after I trained Annie!

Our neighborhood has this awesome nature trail with a dog run on it.
So we took him one day recently and he had a blast playing with two other dogs
in the large fenced area.
We don't have a huge backyard and it's not fenced in so this is a great thing to have access to!

I have to admit this face is hard not to love.
We will see what the future holds...but my kids are definitely vying for making
him part of our family forever!

Favorite Rodan + Fields Beauty Products

I started using Rodan + Fields skin care about 2 years ago to target my adult hormonal acne.

After years and years of trying everything (literally everything) on the market from accutane (TWICE), antibiotics, topical creams, different washes, proactiv, birth control, etc...I was desperate for something to truly help without damaging my aging skin.  I mean who wants acne and wrinkles? NO ONE.

So after about a year of thinking about it, I finally made the order.  The biggest concern I had was the cost.  Rodan + Fields is expensive because it is premium skin care.  I had confidence in ordering though because they offered a 60 day money back guarantee so I figured I had nothing to lose!

Well it worked so amazingly for me!  It took about 3 months, but Unblemish cleared my skin up so well that I even took a picture of myself without makeup on:)!

After about 14 months of using this amazing product, I decided to sign up as a consultant to save more money and to even possibly make some money on the side!

I have loved every single Rodan + Fields product I've tried over the last few months.
And I am loving this biz so much...making extra income and reaching my goals!

Some of my favorite products have been:

EYE CREAM
This little magic bottlesdoes wonders for crows feet, fine lines, dark circles, and puffiness.
It also lasts 4- 6 months!

FOAMING SUNLESS TANNER
I was always too scared to try tanner but I knew I could trust R+F!

the tanner works really well with our micro-dermabrasian paste!

This stuff is amazing and I am loving my safe tan!

these are my personal results after one application!

REDEFINE REGIMEN + AMP ROLLER
Did you know when you turn 30, you begin losing collagen in your skin?
This regimen targets our aging skin, large pores, and just gives you an overall glow.
The amp roller is a powerful little tool that helps stimulate collagen production which fights those fine lines!

This is seriosuly a must have combination and I LOVE being able to use these products in conjuntion with my Unblemish.  Finally, I can target my aging skin!

I got this picture from my friend and customer who is LOVING Redefine and has seen some incredible results!

If you have been thinking about trying any of the Rodan + Fields products, I would highly recommend them!  I would never promote something I don't beleive in!  These products work.  In fact my most recent text from a friend who is one week in to using Redefine, told me excitedly "This stuff is LEGIT!".  Makes me so happy! I LOVE helping people with their skin concerns!

If you're interested leave me a comment with your email and I will be in touch.  I will have several awesome promotions in April going on!  Also, there is a link to my website on the right sidebar of this blog:).
