我很简单

Warm welcome to new blogger on the block!!

Just to share the lyrics for the song we sang on TH anniversary. Somehow found it on my laptop... Ahem, let's hope Ken doesn't come after me for posting it here. Hahahaa~

HI PPL! :)

Hello ppl! I actually wanted to upload the photos that were taken during TH anniversary but I had some problems uploading them. :p Will rectify the problem hopefully by this week. :)

So for the time being, I shall just share my thoughts :)

For the past few sessions, I have been asking myself many questions. Can I really help the residents there? If I am not of much help then why am i still going? Should I volunteer at other homes where I can do more or be more useful?.......... It was until last sat that I stopped questioning myself because of a remark made by a volunteer.

" The residents are always very happy when we came. They are happy not because of what we can do for them or what we did for them but just because WE CAME! " This was what he said.

Then I realized volunteering is not all about how much help we can give, but how much joy we can bring to the residents. And judging from the photos, I can proudly say that WE DID A GREAT JOB! ^^

Must clarify this: I did not eavesdropped. He was a bit too loud :p

Why do you volunteer?

Interesting quote from a certain someone who I talked to just now over MSN

AM 12:28:41 : yea..dunno since when
AM 12:29:01 : i will not have this qn in my mind "do i wan to go mv this sat"
AM 12:29:18 : the qn now is "can i go mv this sat"

Probably one of the best things that I can hear coming from a fellow volunteer. Why do you volunteer? To me, I guess I don't need reason too. I am doing so because I feel like, and, that will be very much enough.

P.S. I censored the name of the converse, to avoid having JOANNE coming after me. HAHAHAAAAA. Anyway, let's congratz on her taking over as the chairperson! (and wish she doesn't get too fatigue this coming year) jk ;P

Orientation Visit 2010 2.0

This week, we had another 8 new volunteers (6 from NUS CSC, 2 from Terra Hope) joining us at MINDSville. Once again, Samantha gave our newcomers a briefing before the day's session began, and we took them on a short tour of MV grounds.

Yehui giving the volunteers a briefing on this week's art & craft activity

Coloring the boats!

Then, cutting the shapes of the boat out...

... and sticking them to another piece of paper

Adding the final touches

And voila!

On the other hand, residents in the food preparation group prepared teabreak: macaroni mixed with mayo, potatoes, and carrots.

Slicing the carrots in half slowly and carefully

Mixing them together with macaroni and mayo!

Placing the combined components into individual bowls

After teabreak, it was time for Funfit 2, where each group played games at 2 out of 3 stations.

Lixian explaining the mechanics of a well-loved game here at MV: finding balls of the same colour as the paper men you're given.

Blue on blue, yellow on yellow... hmm

For a second I thought that clump of flowers in the tree was a red ball O_O But in my defense someone actually DID stick a red ball on one of the branches of that tree (albeit a little lower down)

Another group playing volleyball down below

The third station involved musical chairs, but changed up from last week. This time, players could only sit on chairs with paper men of the same colours given for each round by the station master.

Walking around as the music plays

And quickly finding the right chair the second the music stops!

During the debrief, many of our new volunteers agreed that the day's session was a fun experience, despite some volunteers not having prior volunteering experience or interaction with the intellectually disabled. We would also like to thank all the senior volunteers for being friendly and welcoming (:

We hope to see a great turnout next week from new and older volunteers alike!

N.B. Sorry for the mistake, Terra Hope's anniversary celebration will now be on 18 September! That doesn't mean next week's visit or the week after aren't important either though :D
