gonna move for a while. new site: millypede.livejournal.com Monday, April 10, 2006  xingni's birthday on sunday :) happy birthday dear! my dental darling :) *leo*me*xingni*sweetiang*waiseng*original photo was kinda dark so had to brighten it up a little. unfortunately we now end up looking kinda orangey :S Saturday, April 01, 2006  that was taken on thursday. today is saturday, dental anat practical is over, and that marks the end of my 1st pros! but alas, there's anatomy viva on monday. sorely tempted to miss it but my classmates advised me against it (particularly the ex-rj ppl, cuz i'm their only representative and all. JD was like "go kick butt for raffles!" lol!) they were saying i should give it a shot and not only go for it, but STUDY for it. afterall i've got nothing to lose and everything to gain, so wad's the harm? i'll tell you wad's the harm! the harm is that i'll have to fish out my anat stuff from the pile of books and files i'd so happily chucked away after friday (ok actually it was after thursday) and actually study! i don't think my poor eyes can take it any longer. they're now having trouble focussing after the past few weeks of intense mugging. but that's not the main issue here. the main issue is that i had so much slacking plans for this weekend! my oc season 2 dvds, my new book--which title i shall not divulge cuz i'm still a little embarrassed abt succumbing to the "fad"--playing neopet games (omg, wad have i become?! xingni, i blame you for this!!) eating all the good food i'd craved for as i ploughed through the endless stacks of notes and textbooks, and SLEEPING! oh how i've missed getting a good night's sleep. studying for anat viva does not come under my list of slacking activities ok? if i don't go, as i'd originally planned, i won't have to get stressed up abt whether or not to study or WHAT to study. i wouldn't have to return to that anat hall with its overpowering stench of formalin(sp?) and rotting flesh. i wouldn't have to feel demoralised and loserish and ignorant when i don't get the distinction and the others do because...hey man! i didn't even go for it! hurhur. ok that's just stupid. ah what the heck. i shall just go and give it a shot. doesn't matter if i don't get it cuz well, it's already a miracle that i got listed and i thank God for that. He probably thought i needed a morale-booster so that i won't feel so crap when i get listed for dental anat extinction viva. yikes! i totally screwed it up i tell you. for starters, i went in for my exams with my check-list looking like this:  see that section on the lower right quadrant? that's my dental anat check-list. it's barely half-checked and you know what? this isn't even the full list! i omitted some topics so it won't look so intimidating :$ anw needless to say, my written paper was screwed and i expect to get at most a C+ for it, which is my average for DA written papers anw. so then friday came along. i figured the prac would be my saving grace cuz i got an A for the past test. BUT horrors of horrors! it was just awful! didn't help that i accidentally skipped a station and got all flustered cuz i was answering the wrong questions for the specimen. agh!! i almost cried then and there. needless to say, prac's not gonna be saving me this time round. DA pass viva, here i come :(you know, i get amazed sometimes when certain ppl of a particular faculty look down on us dental students, saying we may have the same title eventually but we know less and therefore shouldn't be earning as much as we do. well i'd just like to see you take on our dental subjects like DA. i mean, come on! we take the same subjects + 1! granted, our anat, biochem and physio's a little more condensed than yours but you know what? i'd gladly take on your syllabus and give up DA any day. it's like prof said, we can be you but you can't necessarily be us. which is probably why we have a dentist doing neuro-research and teaching anat at your faculty, and yet another one with a BDS, your degree and a third in TCM. how's that for knowing less? and on the matter of salary, dentists earn what they earn because they are dental surgeons. they don't charge exhorbitant fees for merely giving out antibiotics. they have to operate. i'd like to see you try to do a RCT or pull out an impacted wisdom tooth...or cut a perfect Class 2 MOD cavity and fill it up for that matter. it's not easy and that's why we have this:  during the HOLIDAYS! did your yr 1 timetable look as packed? because last i checked, you had half-days while we had full days. so please, to the small bunch of ppl with your noses in the air just because you were one of the lucky 200+, it'll be greatly appreciated if you would stop looking down on us, assuming we dental students are all rejects from your prestigious sch, and trying to kick us out of your museum because last i checked, we're entitled to use it just as much as you are. oh and by the way? wearing your lab coats and stethoscopes to the food court doesn't get you admiring stares. it gets you laughs because really. i'm sure your meepok really needs to have its heart beat checked. to the rest of the ppl from that faculty, please do not take offence. my friends especially. because i know you ppl to be humble, kind-hearted and truly deserving of your noble profession. and for that i respect you. maybe you could rub off on some of your cocky coursemates. ok i really shouldn't be here considering i have physio, anat and dental anat CAs coming up in abt 1.5 weeks time, but what the heck. heh! don't feel the least bit tired cuz i slept so much today--the effects of flu (again!)--and i really don't feel like studying anymore. endocrine physio will just have to wait until tmr :) past 2 weeks weren't too bad. got back my biochem results and...surprises! i actually did quite well :) thank God, and thank you for niao-ing me to study (like really...who actually wants to spend their december holidays studying biochem?) anyway. last friday was nice :) celebrated valentine's day then cuz we figured everywhere will be packed on tuesday. had dinner at the esplanade's al dente. food was good and service was excellent! we were really impressed! i mean, since when is service in singapore ever decent, much less great? seriously, if you're in need of some pampering, that's the place to go :) of course it's a little pricey so be prepared to fork out a little bit more. it was a good thing we went that friday cuz they had fireworks and we had the best view, dining upstairs in the open :) aren't we lucky... gave him a surprise visit on tuesday night with cheesecake made by yours truly. lol! it tasted wrong initially so i told him to just see-and-not-touch. but an overnight stay in the fridge did it some good and it actually tasted decent the next day :) yay! i'm not as much a culinary failure as i thought! hurhur. lost precious mugging time baking but it was all worth it to see him so happy :) ok it's late and i probably should go to bed, being sick and all. good night! simple things never fail to bring on a smile. things like having nice drivers stop to give way to you when you're trying to worm your way onto AYE in the mornings. and when you do the same to another driver, he's polite enought to show his gratitude with a thank-you wave. it isn't always true that singaporean drivers are extremely rude. yes, i admit there are plenty of obnoxious drivers out there, drivers who enjoy bullying p-platers like me :( but this doesn't mean that all s'porean drivers are like that. there are a few considerate drivers out there too. just doesn't seem right to lump these people into the same category as those who blare their horns and gesticulate wildly just cuz you committed the shocking crime of trying to change lane. (in the first place, why do you insist on speeding up when you see a car 50m in front of you signalling her intention to move out? sheesh..) but enough of that. to all the considerate, kind, friendly drivers out there, i salute you :) i'll be sure to pay it forward. unless it's some moron cutting into my lane, causing me to jam brake and get rammed from behind by a taxi. hurhur! ok just kidding... have a happy cny everyone! hope the harvest is better this year. meanwhile, to all of us sad dentistry folks, happy pia-ing the damned dental histo book and mugging for the exams. life's tough...suck it up Tuesday, January 03, 2006
it's been a while but i'm back! :) happy 2006 everyone! may the new year bring peace...to the world and in our hearts :) anw here's a little update on my december--what i was doing when i wasn't studying. hurhur. first was wil's commissioning parade 10/12/2005. had kristy there as my personal commentator. haha! it was pretty cool...definitely better than ndp :)  before and after changing of rank. my bf the happy sir :)  1.the ants go marching... 2.see if you can spot him :) 3.arrival of the president 4.blessing 5.the cool slow march 6.his parents fixing his new rank on 7.his family 8.happy officers 9.darling with ian  kristy and me :) next came council camp from 13th-16th dec, with 2.5 days and 2 nights at sentosa and the rest at ny. had lotsa fun with my dearies kristy, ynay and al, slacking away while the juniors did most of the work. oops! hurhur. came back all sunburnt and exhausted. really miss nysc...but we're never doing this again, you hear!

then it was christmas!! family christmas party on the eve at our house with lotsa great food. then church the next day with wil, my parents, sister and her bf. nice nice christmas this yr :)
finally new year's eve was spent with our class S03L :) too bad chee keong couldn't make it. though he did send a super diao sms with "best wishes" for each of us in typical chee keong fashion. lol! how i miss those jc days.

what a sucky december hols. gotta spend it doing stupid things like canvassing and mugging for biochem and dental histology tests set for when sch reopens. YUCKS! not to mention the bloody cariology take-home exam which is such a waste of time. and why, oh why, did i say ok to being part of the council camp com? ugh! wasn't able to make the usual annual trip down to aussie to visit my grandma thanks to all that :( feel kinda bad. on the subject of canvassing, i'm quite amazed at how generous and kind some dentists are, and how obnoxious and cocky others can be. i had the misfortune of meeting this particular dentist who was just downright arrogant. the weird thing is, the cocky ones tend to be the young ones who have yet to truly make it big out there. it's disgusting and i really hope i don't become one next time if and when i graduate. i wanna be like that really nice dentist we met during gp posting. dr tan, i think is his name. he's zai but yet really humble and friendly :) marian and the rest of us were really impressed. yeah so here i am getting all stressed out. december hols are supposed to be fun dammit! cuz we all know sch's gonna be hell when 2nd sem starts. and to make things worse, i have this awful cough/flu thingie that refuses to go away :( this morning i woke up at 5 am and started choking on phlegm. haha! cough until my chest aches. right at the carina--bifurcation of the trachea into right and left bronchi. i can't believe i still remember all that anatomy stuff. my parents were quite worried cuz i've been sick for about 2 weeks now and they're afraid it could be bronchitis. doubt it. i had bronchitis in j1 and that was really awful. couldn't form a proper sentence without coughing my lungs out, to the amusement of my classmates. anw does anyone still watch the amazing race? think the family edition isn't as fun cuz they're forever in the US. but i'm still addicted! i want the linzes to win!! unfortunately, the teams i support always end up losing in the final leg :( let's hope this time's an exception. it has to be! yes yes yes! anat's over! no more exams for the rest of 2005! heh! shall worry abt january's biochem CA2 in dec. right now it's time to just slack man. been studying practically non-stop since september can. it's even worse than the A's; my deteriorating eyesight can testify to that. heh! class outing to sentosa on thursday was pretty fun even though the weather wasn't exactly ideal. had quite a large turnout--abt 21 ppl by dinner time. played ultimate frisbee and captain's ball which is possibly the first form of exercise i've had since...PE last yr? lol! i'm such a sloth. but surprisingly i wasn't that worn out. maybe cuz i didn't get to run around as much with so many ppl playing the game. and plus they hardly threw the frisbee/ball to me (i suspect my classmates kinda look down on me--literally and figuratively. it's pretty insulting sometimes.) anw ended up with tan lines even though it was drizzling and cloudy half the time. felt good to be in the sun--or rather, UV rays--again. previously the long walks home from the bus stop and from rj to the red house bus stop would provide me with my daily dose of vitamin d and some form of exercise. but ever since i got my licence and started driving around i haven't been getting much. except during those walks from the dental faculty @ nuh to medicine or science. sheesh! don't understand why they have to isolate us from the rest of nus. agh! i've seriously digressed. haha! back to class outings. it was really nice to be able to spend some time with my classmates outside of sch. never really got down to doing that cuz my weekends are dedicated to the dear bf and i'm just too lazy to get up early to meet them for the many tennis/badminton etc sessions they have on friday mornings. cuz of that, i always felt kinda out of place in class. not used to being so antisocial y'noe. but with the sentosa outing and today's ice-skating and sky high, starting to feel like i'm fitting in a little better :) oh well...i've got 4 more years to bond with them i guess. really hope it'll work out fine or the next 4 years are gonna be hell for me. today was pretty fun too. haha! my first time ice-skating and i never once fell. guess i owe it to all the blading i did years back. i miss blading so much man. was really depressed when i broke my rollerblades in sec 3 :( was so afraid to let my mom find out cuz they were pretty ex and i had to beg her to buy them for me. haha! yeah think blading is more fun than ice-skating cuz you're not confined to a tiny rink with so many ppl swerving past you. there was this really obnoxious ahpek who went around terrorising all the girls. like suddenly braking in front of you in a shower of ice and cutting into your path. he even tried to grab this little girl who screamed and tried to shove him away. think her family was really pissed off. wad an ass man. haha! and we were all pretty amused watching suraj ice-skate. he came looking like a cross between a construction worker and a bollywood star. lol! and he kept falling in the most classic unglam ways! whenever someone fell, he would fall too, even though the other person wasn't even near him. his shirt was soaking wet with a combination of sweat and ice water. LOL! xingni was pretty cute too. esp the way she would scream whenever someone came close to crashing into her. haha! damn! if only i had my camera to capture all those classic moments. and it's sunday tmr! soon he'll be back and i'll be happy :) oh and did i mention we changed parish priest? Fr. richards is back as the new parish priest! i like his sermons :) even though he always sounds like he's scolding us but at least it gets through to me. there are several priests whose sermons i enjoy listening to--father iggy's, father stephen yim's, and father bosco's. they're the best! father jj's not too bad too. i love Holy Cross! :) everyone should come to my church! it's the best! :) invited darling to come for Christmas Mass. think he's a little apprehensive but really hope he comes. Christmas is never complete without the Christmas Mass! :) but well...don't believe in forcing my faith onto people. yes, evangelising is encouraged but i'm quite appalled at the way some ppl go abt doing it. the way i see it, they'll only succeed in turning ppl away and making them resent Christianity, which is really sad. oh well... wow think this has to be the most wordy post in quite a while. haha! but then again, don't think many ppl come here so what the heck :) Thursday, November 03, 2005  some dentistry pictures...check out the one of my Oscar--the dummy head i work on. haha! those things in his mouth are rubber dam clamps for some exercise btw. it's not wad we usually do. we were all just too lazy to put everything in one at a time for my instructor to check so we just loaded the entire mouth with the clamps. lol! the one of the skeleton was taken in the anatomy theatrette; xingni was trying to "aim" for the pelvic region. haha! the other pics are just my classmates and some seniors, taken during buffet night, return tea, mahjong session we had at j.d.'s house, class lunch @ munchie monkeys, and line dinner. yup. just thought i'd drop a post cuz everyone was complaining that my blog's dead. sorry lar. busy mugging for exams. last one (anatomy) is on wednesday! can't wait for it to be over. normal school days are stressful enough without the exams. ugh! had to redo my class 2 cavity prep that day. damn sian lar! but i guess i shouldn't be complaining. it was my 4th prep and first redo (of which i'm damn proud cuz i usually suck at op tech.) some of my other classmates had to redo their 1st/2nd preps 3 or 4 times. *haolian* lol! no lar...think i was just lucky that day. prob cuz i saw wil in the morning before my lesson :) gave me extra luck. and now i'm back to being sucky. sigh... 10 more days till he gets back from thailand. in the meantime it's back to mugging... 27th september! the best day of my life :) was so happy 1 year ago and i'm just as happy--if not more--now (especially with biochem CA finally over!) celebrated our 1st anniversary over the weekend at mandarin's triple3 where the food is the ultimate! never tasted fresher and sweeter oysters. and the dessert! omg..the chocolate fondue with marshmallows and fat strawberries. starting to salivate just thinking about it :) it's times like these when you feel so truly blessed. thank You! looking forward to many more years to come :)  we agreed that he looked quite se in this pic. lol! but i like it anw   the spread  dessert!  the chocolate wheel :)  chocolate-coated marshmallows..the ultimate happy food! i've decided to blog cuz well...i don't really feel like mugging right now. but i will get down to it as soon as i finish this :) can you believe it? i'm actually psyched abt schwork? could feel the excitement that day when i was doing my tutorial. how freaky is that? i'm becoming a nerd. but seriously, i'm really enjoying my lessons. the stuff i'm learning is pretty interesting. especially anatomy! my favourite subject mostly because prof voon is sooooooo nice! and such a great teacher, i tell you. he actually got me listening attentively to his embryology lecture even though we're not tested on that. he's gonna trash all the other profs and win that best teacher or wadeva award *grins* i'm sure the med students will agree with me. yup and dental anatomy's pretty cool too. prof loh is so FOS!! omg! but it makes his lessons really amusing so i'm pretty happy abt it :) he's kinda like rj's dr chan, just not as animated. we had operative dentistry technique (aka lab) today and it was damn fun man. they let us play with the highspeed and lowspeed handpieces+burs. had to use them to drill cavities of specific shapes (one of them being a heart...wth!) and dimensions in the tooth. was a bit scared cuz the highspeed was so freaking fast! 160 000- 350 000 rpm leh! almost got my finger cut. heh! but i really liked today's lab session :) hope we get more of such assignments. speaking of dentistry, darling's decided to apply!! i'm so excited for him man. hehheh! gonna help him with his interviews so he'll ace them and get accepted! then he'll be my junior. which is pretty weird but still! i love my course :) and i think he just might come to like it too. i mean, it's how fun! like prof loh said, it's abt more than just the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth. hurhur. shall pray really hard that he makes it :) he was so sweet on saturday...buying me honey and making me honey water to soothe my sore throat. haha! and he got so happy when my dad finally made conversation with him. lol! that was pretty amusing. but i have to admit i was pretty happy myself *grins* yup...life's definitely been treating me well...and now it's back to my books. psyche up! omg! i just found the chioest pair of sunglasses ever! i'm in love! uncle paul called just now from aussie to ask me to check out the local price of a pair of rudy project's he was interested in so i went to the site and *swoons* love at first sight! totally classy. sigh...unfotunately no $$ :( oh well, i can always dream, can't i? anw i didn't manage to find any price listings at the site or anywhere. anyone has any idea where i can find them? drop me a tag?
