Master Wesley

I'm honestly not sure when it started or even how it started but when Wesley was very small (like teeny tiny babe) Lily started calling him Master Wesley.  She thought she was hilarious (of course) but I really think she hit the nail right on the head; sometimes I feel like I gave birth to a little old man.  Only not creepy "Benjamin Button" style, more like cute slightly grumpy but we love him anyway "Up" style. You should see him walk, no, you should see him RUN.  It's like the cutest thing on the face of this planet and will make you giggle, I guarantee it. Wesley's short little chunky body is just soooooo little old man, with his pot belly and short little legs, and it nearly kills me every single day.  He's giving me a run for my money - like literally he steals anything within his reach on the table and the other day it was a dollar bill.  He's going to grow up to be something like Dennis the Menace and, yes, I am scared.

Anyhoo, a while back I took some pictures of Lily in her own room playing with her things and after Wesley woke up from his morning nap the light was coming in through his windows like a dream, so I grabbed my camera and photographed him in his space (mess included).  This is how kids live, their rooms are clean about 10% of the time and I'm learning to just embrace it rather than lose my cool over it.  Sometimes the mess is where the memories are.

giving thanks

wow.  I am so in love with so much of my life right now.  What a great holiday to really reflect on how many awesome things make up my day to day.  These kids, this guy of mine, my camera, seriously - - - Seriously?!  So much happiness.  Kyle and I kicked off the day with a four mile turkey race... it was awesome - and also sad because we were the only ones!  This is what happens when your sister moves clear across the country, and no one else wants to run with you.  To be fair, I was feeling a little unhappy about running the night before, but as always I felt like a MILLION bucks once I hit the finish line.

We're already planning our next race!!  The rest of the day was full of lovely family chatting a fantastic meal and some relaxation time.

I am so thankful for SO MUCH.

my little child celebrity

We haven't hit the Homecoming Parade in quite a few years, which honestly is pretty sad considering that it's only a block away - within walking distance people.  The marching band was amazing and the dancing groups and wha wha?  Yeah, they actually threw candy...unlike the lame 4th of July parade (lamelamelame), Wes certainly appreciated that as his tray continued to be filled, I think his cuteness probably had something to do with that.

My mother in law is part of a group called Women of BYU and their group walked in the parade and were told they could invite any other women/girls to walk with them.  Well wouldn't you know that Lily was ALL OVER that when her grandmother mentioned it to her, with a princess dress up to boot - shocker.  She really was Anna, at least a few little girls were certain of it, one of them even ran up to her and gave her a hug.  She reeeeeally ate it up.  Instant Celeb - seriously.  I think that may have sealed the deal on her Halloween costume.  It was a really great parade, short and sweet, just the way I like em'.

The Twelve Month Mashup

So.... my little guy has been a year for awhile now, but I'm not willing to let it go - or maaaaybe, I've just been lazy and am only now getting to putting his monthly pictures together, you decide.  I'm in awe of how much he's changed in a year, not only in physicality but also in personality.  This kid's got spunk, which may or may not have gotten him into trouble with the bark at the play ground (wouldn't listen to mom and dad, had to see the sharp drop off for himself... and trip down it, face first, into the bark, now there's a nice ol' scab in his twelve month photo - not my fault...).  I'm so glad I was able to take all of these pictures, putting them side by side is like gold to a mama - I could probably stare at them all day... don't worry, you don't have to.

Spooky Surprise

Oh my gosh!  I'm writing a post for this blog!  Who's surprised?!  Me.  I've been a little distracted with the Lily & Wes blog and I realized that I have totally and COMPLETELY been snubbing this one. Shame on me.  I'm not going to apologize, however, when this blog is also full of pictures of the kiddles, that's just how I roll. I feel like I'm waaaaay behind in documenting our life, so I'll be throwing in some stuff from a few weeks/months back to get caught up.  For now, I'm happy to just blog about Halloween, as it is one of the most wonderful holidays maybe ever, especially in this neighborhood.

Sometimes I feel like we live in the 50s with how charming our neighborhood is.  The streets we live on were packed with dressed up kids knocking from door to door, which honestly is one of my favorite things to see.  This year our neighbors up the street were handing out krispy kreme donuts and cider, and it felt a little bit like a party in the neighborhood with greetings and grown men in chicken costumes.  Kind of awesome.  Man oh man.

one

How did time fly by so quickly?  Last I remember Wesley looked like this:

... a sweet, plump, brand new little gumdrop.  Aaaaand this is about the time when photography moves me to tears, I can't even begin to describe how much I love these memories.

*deep breath*

My little man turned one last weekend, and I was in disbelief a bit.  I remember feeling that way with Lily but I felt even more so with Wes.  I can still remember in such detail coming home from the hospital, those first few days snuggling with this tiny sweet soul and somehow I'm supposed to believe that 365 days have passed since then?  Hmmm.  Okay, so he's bigger... and smarter... and maybe he eats more (is that possible?) ... and okay, I guess he's walking - so it MUST have been a year ago that all that baby goodness happened.

We had such a lovely birthday with him at the State Fair... although I think he would have had more fun if it hadn't been for a little bit of teething - boo (more pictures of the fair HERE.). It was one of those days I guess - it was his party and he cried because he wanted to:

Happy Birthday sweet boy.
