So the week end is over, and the rain has arrived!
Saturday my family and I participated in the MS walk for SLC, we love this event and look forward to it every year. Not only is it a great cause to raise awareness for, it is a good time to spend with the kids and extended family.
This year the 2 older boys (Weston and Logan) could not attend because they are practicing for thier play, so we grabbed one of our "adopted" children to come along (Madison's friend Hunter). We woke up early on Saturday (7am on a week end!!) and set off for Trax to ride to the Gateway.
Once we arrived and checked in it was a long wait until the walk started at 10am. We were able to spend that time talking to the other family members that were there, and get on our team uniforms. Brandi had chosen matching shirts that said "All you need is love......and chocolate", and I have to tell you we all looked pretty spiffy!
Luckily Shirley (Dawn's step mom) had brought a wheelchair for us to use, because we knew Dawn would not be able to walk the full distance with her foot not quite healed up from surgery. She made it about half the way, but pushing her (or Savannah as it turned out) in the wheelchair was not half as bad as I thought it would be. Madison and Hunter helped us by pushing Colin in the stroller when Dawn was not up to walking.
We have always come in last place in the walk every year, but this year because it was a bit cooler we decided not to be the last ones to leave the rest stop (a park on 300 West) and so we finished in the middle of the pack.
To our suprise, when you finish the walk while there are still volunteers around (i.e not last) you get a medal! We would have never known! Afterwards we all went to Crown Burger to totally blow all the excercise we had just done on the 3 mile walk by consuming yummy fries and onion rings and VERY fattening burgers!
Of course I had to keep telling Madison Happy Birthday about every 10 minutes because it is tradition (her Birthday was actually Sunday 4/12, but last year it fell on the day of the walk, but I wanted to annoy her this year too)
The kids went back to their mothers house on Saturday night for Madisons birthday, so Dawn and I decided to take Colin to the Zoo for Easter. It was a pretty nice day, a little cold with the wind, but overall a good day. Unfortunately because of the cold I didnt think about wearing sunscreen, so yes my noggin got a bit red, and I had to suffer through a round of "I told you's" from Dawn (I told you not to get sunburned this year, I told you to wear sunscreend, etc. etc)
We were going to get the kids tonight and go to Grandma Stacey's for Madi's birthday celebration, but she just called and told me she got invited to the Brittany Spears concert tonight so we had to cancel. Me I would much rather eat pizza and cupcakes than go to that concert, but I am not a 14 year old girl (I only play one on TV)
