here is the story...
Waiting for a room.
I am all hooked up for the first time.
Mike trying things out.
Me testing it out.
The much needed laughing gas.
My uncontrollable laughing and snorting.
The yummy Swedish sandwiches.
Alayna is four weeks old and I am finally getting around to tell the birth story. Life is crazy and so busy with four kids.
My water broke at 2:10 pm. I was getting ready to pick up the kids from school. We managed to get the kids farmed out to some of our nice friends. (Thanks so much for all of your help.) After we got to the hospital and had to find parking and pay for it too. We also had to find the labor and delivery area. It's kind of hard when you can't read the signs and have never been there before. We had to wait about 30 minutes because they had to get a room for us. Once we got a room they hook me up to monitor to check the baby and my contractions. They told me that my contractions weren't strong enough so I had to walk around for a hour and then come back. Mean while the midwife showed me all of the things they had to help me in my natural labor. But I told her that I still wanted the epidural. To bad I didn't get to have one.
They hooked me back up and monitored things for a while. Things weren't progressing and they wanted to send me home. Like I wanted to go home to three crying kids and be screaming with labor pains. So the midwife got permission from the doctor to start me on pitocin. They hooked me up around 7:30 pm. The contraction started to get hard around 9:00 pm and at about 10:00 pm they hurt really bad. I don't remember what time they ofter me laughing gas but I took it willingly. There was a point in my labor between contractions where I was laughing uncontrollably followed by snorting. I am not sure why but I thought something sure was funny. I hated the way the laughing gas made me feel but it was the only way I could get through the contractions.
At about 11:00 pm I was in so much pain I thought I was going to die. Finally at about 12:00 pm I was able to push. I pushed one time and I told Mike and the midwife that I was done and I wasn't going to push any more. They told me I had to push again and there she was. Alayna was here and she was beautiful. I used so much laughing gas that I was loopy and I didn't like that feeling at all. I lost over two litters of blood, the midwife and Mike were pretty nervous. They got my bleeding to stop and I only got mad at the midwife once and pushed her hand away. I told her that she was hurting me and I wanted her to stop. I didn't scream and yell like I thought I would. I only said one little cuss word one time.
I had her at 12:08 am and left the hospital that same day at lunch time. They wanted me to stay one more day but I was ready to get home.
I am glad that she is here and labor and delivery is over. I don't think I would ever have a natural delivery again. It's a good thing I am done having kids. My Friend Rebecca says, I am on my way to a become a true Swedish viking.
