The story of Houdini-

This little chick came into our family because a momma hen would not get off the eggs she was sitting on for over a month. We thought we could trick her with some baby chicks. Well, as you know for my previous post, you can not trick a mother hen. She attacked the Houdini and his brother. So the little birds where put in a milk crate in our garage to keep them safe. Well, Houdini's brother died. Houdini did not like be be alone in the milk crate and kept escaping out the side holes. Hence he is named after the escape artist. One day Kyle came home from school and said he could hear the chick but could not find him. He had gotten out of his crate, hopped up a pile of clothes for donation and jumped right into the tall black garbage can. That is where Kyle found him at the bottom. So being the mom that I am, I suggested that Houdini might be lonely so maybe we could put him in with the rabbit. They could be company for each other. Another lesson Learned: Rabbits and Chicks don't mix. The Rabbit chewed on Houdini's feet. It was really bad, so bad that the little guy lost all of his talons on one leg and one on the other leg. Poor guy. Now Houdini has grown a little bigger and so we have let him out back and he stays up by the porch. He is not too sure of the other chicks but he loves Rascal, our dog, and he follows us around any time we are outside. I love his little chirp. He is a pretty good natured chick despite all that has happened to him.

Our Relief Society was challenged to memorize "the Living Christ" by Easter. It has been a great experience for me. They have separated it out into 14 week sections. As I am not great at memorizing, I have taken this little booklet with me in my car and have read and re read the sections of that week while I am at the stop light, waiting in line or waiting for the kids at the bus stop. It has been great to have the words from each section run though my mind during the week. I feel closer to my Savior.

Since I am one of the RS Enrichment Counselors, I have to write a little email every 3rd week about it. Here are my emails.

Week #3

Dear Sisters,

I have loved reading the Living Christ over these past few weeks. For the stage of life I am in right now, I leave the little booklet in my car. So during the day when I am at a stop light or waiting for my kids at the bus stop, I will read over the words for the week. The section I read is then constantly running through my mind during the day. I have time to ponder these words as I am driving. As memorization is not a strong talent I have, I try to remember the main message of the sections.

As I read and pondered on the section this week, I was touched how deeply personal this passage is for each of us. I sometimes put my name in scriptures to see how it would relate to me personally. I did it with this section.

“His Gospel was a Message of Peace and Goodwill to you Annette. He entreated you to follow his example. He walked the roads of Palestine with you, healing your sickness, causing you to see, and raising you. He taught the truths of eternity to you. The reality of your premortal existence. The purpose of Annette’s Life on earth, and the potential for you as a daughter of God in the life to come. “
As I put my name in the passage, it was brought back to me memories of the many times Christ has been right beside me though my trials. He as walked with me and assured me, has healed me, and helped me see my potential.
I challenge each of you as you read it this week, to put your name in the passage and take time to reflect on what Christ has done for you.

Week #6
I love week #6!
He rose from the grave to “become the first fruits of them that slept”. Isn’t that what Easter is about?
And as the Risen Lord, he visited people in the old and new worlds.
How very blessed we are as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints to have the words of his “other Sheep” written by hand of Nephi describing the coming of Jesus to the Americas.
Our family just got the “Another Testament: Reflections of Christ by Mark Mabry” a Cameron Trejo Film.
We watched it last Sunday. It brought such a special spirit in our home.

And then again how Jesus ushered in the “dispensation of the fullness of times” when he appeared to the boy Joseph Smith.
I loved the Bishop’s talk today about “WE CAN DO HARD THINGS”. I know that I am NOT perfect at memorizing The Living Christ. But if I can just remember what each week was about, I feel like I have accomplished something great in my own life and have come to know my Savior that much better.

Week #9

Hello Sisters,

"For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father- "That by him and through him, and of him the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God."

As I read this passage, the words BY, THROUGH, and OF stood out to me.
So I looked them up in the dictionary. Out of the many definitions of these "small" words, I picked the ones I thought would best fit into the passage.

BY: through the agency, efficacy, work, & participation of
THROUGH: from beginning to end; in all respects
OF: used to indicate derivation, origin, or source

So if we substitute these for the words it would be something like this:
That through the agency of HIM, and from all respects of HIM, and from the source of HIM,
THE WORLDS are and were CREATED.

I can't help but feel a since of Awe and Wonder as I look around my little part of the WORLD he has made for me. I planted Flowers and a Garden a little while ago. It is so much fun to see them bloom and grow. I am grateful to HIM for creating such a magnificent world.

Hello all,

I am so grateful for the this opportunity to study the Living Christ! I can’t believe it is coming to an end.
I am sorry I did not get this out last week. But I wanted to share my desires of my heart.
Week #12

“Each of us will stand to be judged of him according to our works and the desires of our hearts. We bear testimony, as his duly ordained Apostles- that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God.”

At sometimes, I feel like that Olive tree that the master of the vineyard dug around it and pruned it.
And sometimes it brought good fruit and sometimes it brought forth bad fruit.
My desire of my heart that I will be able to overcome this “natural” woman that is in heart and only bring forth good fruits.
As I work and pray to be a better person, I hope that one day I will be able to stand before Jesus and wash HIS feet with my tears.
I am also grateful for Living Apostles that bear testimony of HIM!
I am grateful for General Conference Weekend to feel of the spirit of these great Apostles.
I am grateful for the knowledge that Jesus Christ LIVES!

THE TESTIMONY OF THE APOSTLES

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made" (John 1:3). Though sinless, He was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He "went about doing good" (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it.

His gospel was a message of peace and goodwill. He entreated all to follow His example. He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come.

He instituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice. He was arrested and condemned on spurious charges, convicted to satisfy a mob, and sentenced to die on Calvary's cross. He gave His life to atone for the sins of all mankind. His was a great vicarious gift in behalf of all who would ever live upon the earth.

We solemnly testify that His life, which is central to all human history, neither began in Bethlehem nor concluded on Calvary. He was the Firstborn of the Father, the Only Begotten Son in the flesh, the Redeemer of the world.

He rose from the grave to "become the firstfruits of them that slept" (1 Corinthians 15:20). As Risen Lord, He visited among those He had loved in life. He also ministered among His "other sheep" (John 10:16) in ancient America. In the modern world, He and His Father appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, ushering in the long-promised "dispensation of the fulness of times" (Ephesians 1:10).

Of the Living Christ, the Prophet Joseph wrote: "His eyes were as a flame of fire; the hair of his head was white like the pure snow; his countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters, even the voice of Jehovah, saying:

"I am the first and the last; I am he who liveth, I am he who was slain; I am your advocate with the Father" (D&C 110:3–4).
Of Him the Prophet also declared: "And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives!

"For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father—
"That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God" (D&C 76:22–24).

We declare in words of solemnity that His priesthood and His Church have been restored upon the earth—"built upon the foundation of . . . apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone" (Ephesians 2:20).

We testify that He will someday return to earth. "And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together" (Isaiah 40:5). He will rule as King of Kings and reign as Lord of Lords, and every knee shall bend and every tongue shall speak in worship before Him.

Each of us will stand to be judged of Him according to our works and the desires of our hearts.
We bear testimony, as His duly ordained Apostles—that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God.

He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world.

His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son.
