The heat is on

In case you haven't noticed, I don't usually dish out many compliments to Singapore but I must say that this is a very exciting week to be here. With the F1 officially kicking in tomm, the entire nation has their eyes set on the street circuit at Marina. Apart from National Day, this is probably the next best occasion for building patriotism. It's the first thing on everyone's conversation topic, followed closely by the financial crisis and China milk scandal of course.

For the record, I didn't become an overnight F1 fan. But due to work, I had no choice but to do some research on the race (I actually spent a good half a day on Wiki) and now, I am proud to say that I've at least got the basics of F1 covered.

I was in Suntec earlier today and seeing the preparations underway undoubtedly sent an adrenaline rush down my spine. I could almost hear the engines rumble. Ironically, while my F1 fever is raving hot, I probably won't get a chance to catch much of the action. (No, I do not have tickets to watch the race. My boss is going.) Tomm's gonna be a busy day at work becos my company is organising a private aviation show at Seletar. And three-quarters of my Saturday will be burnt for part two of the air show. On Sunday evening, I promised to accompany my mum for a wedding dinner of a distant cousin I didn't even know exist. So from the look of things, I won't even get to catch the race on TV.

But well, no need to feel sorry for me. I had my fill of F1 drivers today at the BMW press conference. Nothing much lar. I just took some pictures with the BMW drivers, shook their hands and spoke to them. Hahaha. Humour me lar. I had a long and tiring week.

Jo with Christian Klien, test & reserve driver. He's my age. Cute huh? Ok, can't really tell from this picture.

Jo with Nick Heidfeld.
Touted to be the new driver of choice for BMW.
He has been doing well, but never won a race before.

Team favourite Robert Kubica, a contender for this year's driver championship title.
He looks a bit like Matthew Mcconaughey.

Good night sweetheart good night.

Saw a copy of the 8 Days Sleep Issue and thought that since it's a topic close to my heart, plus the fact that I'm now having my insomniac moments, I shall have some fun with this before getting a shut-eye.

What are your must-haves in bed?
- Three pillows (placed across the width at the head of the bed) to ensure that wherever I turn, my head will not fall off onto the mattress.
- One baby bolster. It's a replacement from the original stinky one from my childhood days. I use it to support my neck when I sleep.
- One large bolster for hugging to sleep.
- One medium bolster, for when I don't feel like hugging the large one.
- A comforter to cover all of me except my face.

Weirdest place to sleep in?
Five minute snooze in the office toilet. I think I only tried it once and stopped after that becos I realised how bacteria-infested the place is and how much germs I'd be inhaling in my sleep.

Best way to wake up?
In a different country, knowing that I'm on holiday (or work, for that matter). The icing on the cake would be to have a remote control to draw the curtains from bed to unveil the spectacular skyline of dawn. Awww.

Lost any sleep lately?
Yes, it's the 'season' where I toss and turn for about an hour before drifting off to dreamland. Usually lasts for a week or two before the 'season' changes. Is this normal or am I weird?

Sleepwear of choice.
T-shirt and shorts.

What's on your bedside table?
My house phone, dysfunctional air purifier, handphone, water bottle, and alarm clock (for decorative purposes).

Sleeping position.
Turned to my right in a foetal position, hugging my large bolster. Alternatively, I'll turn to my left and hug my medium bolster.

Good night...

Sights of Malacca

Hmmm, seems like my camera was in a good mood over the weekend...

My once-a-year affair with the best chendol I ever tasted. Coconut milk, green jelly, red beans, and thick delicious gula melaka. Ooh...

Photobucket
Stayed at the Legacy hotel.
Quite nice on the outside.
No comments on the inside.

Photobucket
The cross at Malim Hill which people come to venerate. Over the years, people have been shaving off the wood for its miraculous powers. Now it's kept in a glass box and only opened once a year, during the feast day.

I like this picture. All of them look so cute. Haha.

Jonker Street. I'm officially bored of talking about it.

Joliloquy

In the thin air of cold one drifts to sleep,
Only to be forcefully shaken.
For there shall be none until it thickens.
Weakness is but the mind's blemish.
Fashioned from dust but no fault it shall lay claim to.
While d' astute 'evil feigns goodness,
For a costume of things dark and vile.
But does the finger erect too quickly?
The familiar mockery, derision, contempt.
Hypocrisy kills more than the cat.
The self scoots away into the popular fallacy,
Joined by spinning spirits of a fanciful mime.
The fall is eternal;
The agony deathless.
Yet death steals the dream which now lies barren.
Witnesses speak of tiqva,
But where has it gone?
For cover, retreated into the hollows.
Vowed never to return again.
For it trembles at the sight of light,
Relives the dawn of day that never breaks.
Four months to.
The audacity and vigour must be revealed.
Awake from a profound slumber!
It is a question of choice or ......
