Rainy days and Mondays

Well you see, there is a saying that goes "zhuo nang kiang du hoe, mai gey kiang." Loosely translated, it means that in life, just be smart. Don't act smart.

I was leaving the office on Monday when I realised that it was raining. Incidentally, my colleague was leaving the office as well, so I asked her for shelter to the bus stop outside. I figured that by the time I reached my house bus stop, the rain would have stopped. After all, I've been pretty lucky when it comes to the weather and I was too lazy to carry an umbrella.

Turns out that when I reached my house bus stop, the rain was heavier than before, leaving me stranded at the bus stop for about 5 minutes. It was 6.50pm and I was dying to get home for dinner, so I decided to run in the rain.

When the opportunity came, I dashed across the road (Attempted to dash, since I was wearing heels.) But after barely taking 5 steps, I slowed down my pace...started taking slower steps and eventually ended up walking across the road. For that one split moment, it suddenly struck me how nice it feels to walk in the rain. I can't remembr when was the last time I walked in the rain, but as the raindrops started trickling down my face, I felt so...liberated! (Ya, that's the word - LIBERATED). It felt so good deep inside. Brings me back to good old days when you don't have to worry about wetting your school shoes, or smudging your makeup. You know, you just DO it. And as I walked, I just enjoyed the rain as it fell. I must have looked a bit crazy but the feeling was so surreal.

Well, don't get me wrong. Pls don't start walking in the rain every time it starts to pour. You'll fall ill! I guess what I'm trying to say, or rather, what GOD was trying to tell me is - To simply slow down and start enjoying the simple things in life. After all, what is the hurry?

Of sugar-coated chendols, new pink bags and irritating houseflies

"Welcome back to Singapore," she smiled and said to herself, the moment the coach left the Malaysian customs. It was a nice feeling to be out of that place and finally step foot on native land again. Some people slog their lives away, just to make enough money to take a holiday. She'd rather a routine life, with no excitement, no adventure. Three days flew by with a new collection of personal memories, frustrations and a bloated stomach...

She had fun, but at times missing her life back home.

She ate well, although she vividly remembers the food to be better in previous years.

She spent time with family, appreciating the precious moments together, and yet hating these exact moments whenever an argument sparked.

She tried to pray, and got an inch closer.

She tried to make sense of His doings, and was thrown into confusion once again.

She wanted to fit in, but always seemed to be left out.

She enjoyed the long lonely bus rides down the expressways. It was a time to relax and reflect, but this time, she was pestered by irritating houseflies.

She still craves for deliciously thick and sweet Chendol - A daily must-have in Malacca which brought a smile to her face.

She directed her energy to taking some good pictures for keepsake, only to be greeted by a flat battery on day two.

She enjoyed a night at the hotel lounge, with aunties and uncles twice her age.

She wanted to indulge and do some shopping, but ended up only buying a pink bag for herself.

She saw, felt and experienced - Embracing a different culture and appreciating her own even more.

Having said all this, she is glad. Contented that she is given this opportunity to revisit memories and make new ones. To get away from it all. To spend the time with the people she loves most. And most of all, to carry her cross while venerating His.

The story of my life

Hi fellow earthlings! Its been awhile since I last blogged, so here's a quick update:

University
After much deliberation, I've finally registered myself at SIM: Bachelor of Arts in Comm Studies & English Language. It's a part-time degree course which will take two years to complete and a lifetime to save up for. $16k to be exact. I'll be taking a study loan from Maybank. Hope I can make ends meet. Such a bitter sweet feeling...

Dentist
I finally had some works done to my fast-decaying teeth. Wasn't as painful as I imagined it to be but still...having the drills coming into contact with my delicate teeth leaves nothing short of a tingling-deja vu experience. Burns a hole in my pocket too. One down, 4 more visits to go. *sigh*

Shoes
I managed to sell a pair of shoes online for $50. And bought two pairs of slip-ons the very next day for the same price. Hmmm. I wonder if it's a good thing...

Lunch at Furama
Was at a working lunch with some colleagues & doctors yesterday at Furama Riverfront. Apart from the boring meeting details, everything else was to die for. Ok, mainly the food, which was sumptiously sinfully mouth-watering. Best part - It was free. You ought to go there for a buffet lunch if you have time and money. Not convinced? Here are some of the highlights - Sashimi, satay, tempura, buah keluak, clam chowder, baby octopus, Penang laksa, chocolate fondue, ice cream with assorted toppings. Yum yum...Ha...

Doctors
Still on the topic of yesterday's lunch...No offence but boy do these docs fit perfectly into their stereotypes. They crack jokes that are so erhm, funny...listen to symphony in their car and talk about ketamine/schizophrenia/herpes (Zzz...) while eating. There are of course, some exceptions to this weird breed of mankind, like the doctor who drove me there (in his Tuscani). He is a very eligible bachelor at 40, sings really well and goes for overseas mission trips to treat poor patients. He recently won the healthcare award too. Any takers?

Contest results
And the winner of the Dark Chocolate contest goes to.........RACHEL! Congratulations for being the lucky one out of hundreds of thousands of participants! (Jac didn't win this cos she has gotten far too many free t-shirts already, but nonetheless, she'll get a free chocolate =P

It's Friday!!! Don't drink and drive, and be nice to animals.
