ReWorked Final Projects

I went back to finish and rework my Villianess finals.  I wanted to make them stronger and become more comfortable with coloring in Photoshop in a different way then I am used too.  During break I also have been exploring different ways to color in Photoshop. I reworking this project really did help me to figure out how to approach painting in Photoshop(there really are so many ways how to use photoshop).

See all of you when semester starts up again.

Homework for before you leave for break

Just one last thing to do before you can sleep/drink until mid-January!
  • A lot of you have already done this, but post your two illustrations for the final project on the blog. Your grade depends on this post, no pressure.
  • Also, some people were missing pieces required for the final critique in yesterday's class. (Video Game Environments, Bogeymen sketches, etc) If you can find them, Sean asked that you post them as well.
Thanks guys, this class was fun to crit. I feel really proud of your efforts and finished works, even though I'm not much older than you guys.

Sean is teaching a class focused on concept art in Fall 2010, if you'd like to give it a whirl, and he'd like to see you guys in class again! (Alright, I can't speak directly for him, but I heard him say that in class several times.) If you have any questions, comment here. I may not respond right away since I haven't slept in awhile.

But finals are almost over! And everyone should have a great break!

Finals so far

I most certainly don't have all the time in the world left to work on these, but I would appreciate any feedback one might offer.

Hey guys more posting, these are the last two pieces of art i have to do for the semester so im working pretty hard on these

this one has gotten a lot of love today (watched all 3 matrix movies while painting, and were starting on the alien series just now!)

So im kinda looking for any kind of crits, thks julia for the crit, i made some quick changes to the foreground amped up the color more and opened up her figure because after julias comment i really liked the idea of having her be a little more "in the space" with her magic/sheep/goats

comments are great :D

Hey guys

Ive been working on my pieces some more and wanted to get some feedback on the *slightly* new colors for the sheep herding image. Sean gave me some ideas of how to deal with the space in teh background and right now im looking for a few solutions for the middle ground between the sheep/lady and the mountians and hills

so far the tactic im going to try is to add detail to the grass closer in and maybe add flowers or something very light to give it detail and interest.

any comments are great. thks :D

Taylor

also as a little bit of a heads up, the colors are alittle off on the internet for print so sorry if the contrast and saturation are a hint low.

Homework for 12/15/2009

Okay, guys, this is it! Here's what you need to bring.
  • Printouts that are least 8.5 x 11" OR the original works of all projects for this class.
  • WIPs and sketches for all assignments (i.e. thumbnails, concepts, panels, reference sheets, material callouts)
  • This one is optional: Printouts or originals of your 2 or 3 best figure drawings
Here's a list of projects:
  1. Bogeyman sketches and someone else's bogeyman illustration
  2. Comic book/graphic novel character (action shots of the character, colored illustration)
  3. Video game character (colored frontal view, back and side sketches, action shots and props, colored environment)
  4. Film/animation character (colored frontal view, storyboard panels)
  5. Two illustrations of any character created during this class, in two different states (if you want to three, that's extra credit, but don't cut quality for quantity)
Remember that everything has to be brought in physical form (digital prints or original works). I know I've said it like a billion times, but I want to make sure I can (sort of) rectify the erroneous information I gave you guys.

Oh, this might be helpful stuff:

Sean talks about presentation (like not pinning pieces over each other) and professionalism (like not talking over each other) . I'm not saying you have to mount everything or make everything the same size, but just keeps the paper edges straight and clean, leave "breathing room" between sketches, panels, etc.

And with your pieces, a pretty easy and effective way to tell if it's working compositionally and technically is to show it to someone who doesn't have a visual artist background or a classmate who doesn't know what the project is, and ask them if it's working, if it's confusing, or anything that is important to know (I like this, I don't like this). Flipping the image (holding it to the light or using the computer to do it) can check if anything looks kind of "off".

If you post thumbnails and more refined sketches, I'll be happy to take a look and offer some (hopefully useful) feedback. Sean will try to, but he's also got two other jobs. If there's any confusion, comment here, I don't want someone to mess up because something I wrote doesn't make any sense. Okay, go, guys!

    Sunday, December 6, 2009

Hey guys, ive started painting and cleaning up my sketches into something slightly more understandable. Lemme know what you think so far. Mostly right now im working with the color palette and trying to get the images to jive as a diptych. Sean already made the suggestion to make sure the old ladys hair style/head shape, stay similar enough that you recognize her better. so that should be one change i make. Any who, lemme know, any help is always good!
