France update
Blog postings could be thin on the ground for the next while. Internet at the cottage we are renting is intermittent and mobile usage is pricy abroad.
Quick update...
Day 1 The day of flats . Kevin got a flat on the chariot on a run with the boys and could not contact me for a lift as my phone was not set up on the French mobile network. But he totally MacGuyver-ed his way home by stuffing the tire with leaves.
Then we got a flat on the car and spent the next 5.5 hrs driving all over trying to find the right size tire (apparently an odd one). Finally at 5:30 pm we found a place that could replace it. Everyone hungry and worn out we stumbled desperately into the only restaurant for miles: McDonalds. You should have seen us trying to order happy meals in French! All the kids ate were fries (which they call chips) but they loved the indoor playground and we swallowed our dislike and went with the flow.
Day 2 Went for our first family bike ride! So amazing to see the boys whiz zing along on their own bikes (not the trailer!) then to la plage a man made beach by the river where we made sand castles and splashed in the water.
Day 3 Versailles! Magnifique! We managed to not even get too lost on the autoroute peripherie (ring road) in paris on the way there. I loved the Galerie de Glaces ( hall of mirrors) and we were blown away by the massive formal gardens. The boy's favourite part was the ice cream.
All in all going well despite the fact that our cottage required quite a bit of maintenance on arrival. we spent a few hours weeding our terrace and Kevin even needed to mow the lawn and pick up dog poo before we could let the kids run around. But all looking good now! Very cozy.

Dinosaur grooming
We were reading a book about dinosaurs and saw a picture of an allosaurus which is basically like a T-Rex. Ellis points at it and says 'mummy, that dinosaur needs his nails trimmed'.

Her Majesty
You may remember that my mom and I were invited to a garden party in Henley to celebrate the Queen's diamond jubilee back in June. Our wonderful neighbours Mavis and Colin snapped this photo as you are not allowed to take photos yourself. Mavis was organizing the event and so secured two tickets for us. We were extremely priviledged to be invited and had an absolutely wonderful time. I still can't believe that I was this close to the Queen!
