Succumbing to the Twilight

I think that I'm a literary snob to a degree. I resisted, for a very long time, reading the Twilight book saga. It was partly because it got so popular. I was also resistant because it was meant for young readers. I normally go for literature that's more challenging to read and somewhat philosophical. My favorite literature is early American literature. I was also resistant since I've never been a fan of vampire stories. You know, the ones with the dingy old mansions, the hypnotic eyes, bloody fangs and the somehow helpless women? Turns out that Twilight is full of interesting symbolism and parallels to age-old questions (ones addressed in philosophy)! Also, Twilight mentions early American literature many times (one of my favorite stories especially, "Wuthering Heights"). To my surprise, the author explains some of the vampires' allure by addressing them as traps to attract prey in an almost purely physical sense. It helps it make more sense in a scientific world rather than purely mythological. The bonus about the book being written for young readers is that I can blaze through the book much faster than if it was for a more challenging level. I have swallowed my pride, succumbed, if you will, to the Twilight saga and am grateful that I did! I've been reading as much as I can during the day while still caring for my home and family responsibilities. I cannot put the book down! I have lost sleep over the stories! For the most part, I read until my eyes won't let me read anymore. My husband even tracked down the third book for me since a friend lent the 1st, 2nd and 4th to me (her 3rd was in storage). He was so sweet in just making a couple of calls to track down a copy that I could borrow (all local stores were sold out, so I couldn't buy it). I also think that the vampire story is acceptable to me without being disgusting or distasteful because it is about resisting. That, to me, is much more sexy and compelling because I believe that shows true unselfishness and progress toward true love, sacrifice.

Introduction

This blog is my personal outlet to just be me and talk about what I care about. The name of my blog represents the general state of things for me up until now. I've had a lot of laughter and love in my life, but a lot of chaos and change. I've learned enough about many things, but want to learn so much more about everything. The world is so interesting to me! I have many varieties of friends and even my family are all quite different. I accept most walks of life, excluding child molesters, rapists and murders. I'm not a fan of liars either, but I can still accept them in my life to a certain degree. I believe a lot of the chaos that has happened in my life is because of my open mind. I have such an interest in different walks of life and differences in the world's cultures, that I could never be a cookie cutter of anyone or any group.
